Se numeşte “Get Lucky” şi a apărut recent. Exceptând muzica pentru filme (“Local Hero”, “Cal”, “The Princess Bride”, “Last Exit to Brooklyn” şi “Wag The Dog”), acesta este al 6-lea album solo al chitaristului care a oferit lumii trupa Dire Straits. Mark Knopfler nu îşi trădează stilul din ultimii 10 ani şi revine în actualitatea discografică cu un material care aminteşte de albume precum “Sailing to Philadelphia” sau “Kill to Get Krimson”.
Discul nou al lui Mark este unul deosebit de liniştit. Poate prea calm pentru un muzician care a excelat prin riff-uri şi ritmuri ucigătoare. Amintiţi-vă doar de “Sultans of Swing”, “Money for Nothing” sau “Heavy Fuel” din era Straits.
Anii au trecut, iar apropierea dintre Knopfler şi coloanele sonore ale diverselor filme îşi face simţit efectul asupra melodiilor destinate albumelor sale solo. Încadrat la categoria folk, “Get Lucky” conţine o muzică foarte frumoasă, cu texte autobiografice (şi nu numai), înregistrată la propriul studio, British Grove Studio. Vocea de bunic rock este brand-ul actual al muzicianului britanic. Veţi spune că şi chitara lui are un sunet cu copyright. Aşa este! Doar că noul album nu beneficiază de o abundenţă de chitară a la Mark Knopfler. Din păcate! Există, însă, procedee instrumentale care înlocuiesc sound-ul atât de îndrăgit creat de părintele Dire Straits. Printre sonorităţile mai deosebite (şi pe care le-am descoperit deja şi pe “Sailing to Philadelphia”) se numără acordeonul. Dar aud, parcă şi ceva cimpoaie modificate şi care se integrează perfect în atmosfera albumului “Get Lucky”. Dacă ar fi să punctez câteva melodii concrete, m-aş opri la “Monteleone”, “Cleaning My Gun” şi “Piper to the End”. Dar greşesc. Întregul material merită ascultat cu atenţie. Muzicienii care au contribuit la înregistrarea celui mai recent album Mark Knopfler sunt: Guy Fletcher, Phil Cunningham, Michael McGoldrick şi John McCusker.
Chitarist-compozitorul britanic are deja program pentru anul 2010. Au fost bătute în cuie vreo 25 de concerte în America de Nord şi încă vreo 40 pe continetul european. Periplul va începe în primăvară, mai exact în data de 8 aprilie, la Seattle. Doar ca fapt divers vă spun că, în ziua de 4 iulie, Mark Knopfler (foto) şi trupa sa vor evolua la Budapesta (“Papp Laszlo” Sportarena). În aceeaşi perioadă, la Oradea, dacă nu mă înşel, ar trebui să aibă loc Zilele Cetăţii. Poate nu ar fi prostie ca organizatorii să se gândească la aducerea lui Knopfler. THE NEW ‘VR’:  Starting in July, Vatican Radio will carry advertisements for the first time in its history — provided they are morally and ideologically sound.

Potential advertisers will be screened for “ethical content.” The first advertisements will be for the Italian energy company Enel, and will be broadcast in five languages: Italian, English, Spanish, French and German.

Father Federico Lombardi, who is both the Pope’s spokesman and head of Vatican Radio, said Vatican radio costs over twenty million Euros to run but generates no income. ”This programming, with an increasingly stable public, is naturally a place where publicity can more logically be inserted,” Father Lombardi said.

Vatican Radio broadcasts in 40 languages, is available 24/7 on FM stations in Italy, on short, medium and long waves and via the Internet, and employs around 200 journalists to broadcast news of the Pope and the Catholic Church to the world.

Det var en bande sammenspillede musikere i verdensklasse, der med snild behændighed arbejdede sig i gennem et udvalg af Mark Knopflers sange. De rakte fra Dire Straits-tiden til det nu femte soloalbum Kill To Get Crimson. Augustenborg Slotspark, tæt på Sønderborg, dannede en stemningsfuld baggrund, og den første juniaften i 2008 holdt sig over de tyve graders varme.

Minder fra en svunden tid

Det var musikalsk rå-nostalgi fra 1980erne og lidt længere frem i tid, der kom i spil da Knopfler & co. spillede hans sange fra Dire Straits tiden. Telegraph Road, Brothers in Arms og Romeo and Juliet er smukke og pompøse værker, hvor Knopflers forskellige former guitarspil for alvor blev foldet ud.

Til Sultans of Swing blev bandet til en vis grad afmonteret, så det kun var Knopfler selv, guitarist Richard Bennett, trommeslager Danny Cummings og bassist Glen Worf. Det er stadig en sang med rytme og lidenskab og historien om bl.a. et band i London, der kalder sig Sultans of Swing. Og det var virkelig musikalske håndværkere, der slog til og fik det til at swinge.

De nyere sange ramte bedst

Til min store overraskelse var et af de numre, der gjorde mest indtryk på mig, det relativt ukendte ’Hill Farmer’s Blues’ fra albummet The Rackpicker’s Dream. Dér nåede Knopfler ud over scenekanten. Sangens historie er måske ikke enorm, men guitarspillet og intensiteten i sangen fik mig til at lytte. Også What It Is, Sailing to Philadelphia og Speedway at Nazareth tog kegler.

Det var en oplevelse at se Mark Knopfler i Augustenborg, og høre hans sange og hans guitarspil. På vejen hjem kom jeg til at tænke på noget af teksten fra sangen Why, Aye Man:

…we’re the nomad tribes, we’re travelling boys

in the dust and dirt and the racket and the noise…

…we got wor tools and working gear

and humped it all from Newcastle to here…

Working men 

Jeg havde lidt følelsen af at Knopfler & co. var netop de rejsende arbejdsfolk han synger om. I dag havde de endnu et stop på rejsen, hvor de endnu engang skulle spille. Det gjorde de så. Folk fik hvad de havde betalt for, men heller ikke mere. Der var ikke rigtig kontakt med publikum og det skuffede lidt.
