The ‘itis has struck and it’s some combination of mild flu + medium coughing + major strep which makes for sleepless nights and hardfast rules about sharing drinks. Haven got a smidge, Hadden got a lot, and we parents got some headaches. All  in all, not terrible, but not nearly as productive as it was supposed to be. That is, according to my grand plan. Instead we’re trying to keep up at work while putting way too much trust in Max & Ruby and Dora to entertain Hadden who will be out of school a total of two weeks.

After suffering through tests for mono and strep, and a nebulization today, Hadden could think of only one thing. Donuts. They made for a mighty fine lunch for this JerseyMom as well.

Hadden’s preschool held an adorable parade and sing-a-long yesterday, with plenty of super heroes, princesses, animals and witches crunching along the leaf-filled path.

Should I be concerned that tomorrow is Picture Day? Because I am.

Notes to kids:

This was the first year that you, Haven, carved an entire pumpkin by yourself. Alright, I might have refined a few edges and done the eyebrows, but really, you drew the design on, you carved out the eyes, nose and mouth, and you still have 10 intact fingers to show for it.

Hadden, you’re using Halloween to teach passers-by the important difference between Pumpkins and Jack-o-lanterns. These are Jack-0-lanterns, and never again will they Pumpkins be. Awesome job scooping out the “icky stuff” too!

Guess which little kids were suprised with Disney on Ice tickets Friday afternoon! It was a great show, full of little bits of all sorts of Disney productions. Hadden was most excited about Mickey Mouse though.

As the week came to a close in Asia and Europe ,the dollar received a boost from comments by Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke that suggested the Fed is beginning to prepare an exit strategy from its ultra accommodative monetary policy. In remarks made last night, the Fed chairman noted, “”When the economic outlook has improved sufficiently, we will be prepared to tighten the stance of monetary policy and eventually return our balance sheet to a more normal configuration.”

Although the Fed chief’s comments broke no new ground, the mildly hawkish tone of the message prompted a short covering rally especially in

which spiked to 89.40 on fears that US rates may begin to rise sooner than the market expected sabotaging the dollar carry trade. As we noted earlier however, we believe that the rhetoric from Dr. Bernanke was meant simply to provide some intermediate support to the greenback rather than signal any real Change in policy.

We believe that the Fed will follow its historical precedent and will not make a move in rates until US unemployment rolls print positive for at least several months in a row. Given the fact that US economy continues to shed jobs at -200K pace a turnaround of such magnitude is not likely to occur until well into the h2 of 2010 at best.

The Euro was also hurt tonight by weaker than expected German Trade data which printed at 10.6 Billion versus 12.4 Billion eyed. It’s too early to tell if the higher exchange rates are beginning to hurt Germany’s key export sector, however they are clearly not helping and any further rise in the unit may slow down the pace of recovery in the region. European officials have been generally nonchalant about the relentless rise in the

but if the pair climbs above 1.5000 and begins to materially impact export demand, the rhetoric will escalate very quickly.

In North America today, US will also release its trade balance figures with markets anticipating a slight increase to -32.5B from -32B the month prior. The data will be skewed by

prices, but if the trade data ex

shows a significant improvement it will validate the US policymakers attempt to grow the US economy via the export sector. With little else to drive trading today, consolidation appears to be the most likely path with a slight bias towards the buck as profit taking continues.

A few weeks back, while Aunt Jennifer and I got gorgeous while supporting my mom and sister’s new venture, Josh took Cousin Sadie, Haven and Hadden to a nature center for snake-touching and turtle-watching. Here are some shots from that sweet afternoon.

…and this festival brought us Hadden’s first pony ride! We have two major thrill-seekers on our hands when it comes to amusement park rides, and as long as they don’t spin in circles (yes, I’m talking about you Tea Cups), I’ve right there with them.

Er dette fremtidens kinesiske Hummer ?

 Kinesiske Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. Ltd vil betale $150 millioner for deres 80% af Hummer dealen, medens de resterende 20% bliver kontrolleret af den kinesiske finansmand Suolang Duoji. Så GM må tælle på knapper for at finde de sidste godt 300 millioner dollars i den handel.

Der er nu heller ikke noget at sige til at kineserne ikke vil give fuld pris for det en gang stolte bilmærke. Sammenlignet med september sidste år, der er salget nu gået nedad med et imponerende 64%, til sølle 8.193 styks. De mest sjældne Hummers er den civile version af H1 som AM general producerede mellem 800 og 1000 styks af om året fra 1992 frem til GM overtog.

Siden GM overtog produktionen fra AM General i 1999 har salget ellers stort set kun været stigende, med en absolut rekord i 2006 på 71.524 Hummers i alle versioner totalt, men sidste års rekordhøje benzinpriser slog bunden ud af salget og lagde Hummerejere for had over hele verden.

Sammen med rettighederne til mærket og til at producere den verdenskendte SUV, der har kineserne også fået den franchise kæde på 158 butikker i USA der hører sammen med.

Den “lille” Hummer H3, og H3T vil et stykke tid endnu blive produceret på General Motors fabrik i Shreveport, Louisiana. Medens AM General LLC’s fabrik i Mishawaka, Indiana vil producere H2 modellerne frem til 2011.

Like our friends, we kicked off Fall with a great PumpkinSlideMazeCiderFest on Sunday. This also means we’ve dropped our first pumpkins of the season by our doorstep. (Actually, the second pumpkins of the season because we actually grew two in our garden this summer. I’m obviously still in shock.)
