Maybe you could assume this post as an excuse for me posting his pic as many as i could…??? It probably Yesss…..I miss him act in something meaty & good projects, particularly in rom-coms realm (ignoring Road No.1, blaming the blahblahblah story for dragged my Yoon Kye-Sang in, Heh).

He’s been and will still on my Best 5 “Hot Oppadeul & Ahjussideul of Mine” for a loong time. Haha. I have the same feeling for Yoo Ah-In & Ha Jung-Woo (Trivia: the latter is his co-star in Moonlight in Seoul), the feeling that you didn’t know what the heck these men had enough to making their fans insane, until, until you check them in something, acting, and, oh my!, do you know what happen next??! without you even realized, they ‘ve already witched you with their magic acting formulas. Aw aw!.

He was nowhere to be in his popular days recently before Best Love is in the viewers attention due to its airing now up to approximately 2months ahead. Thanks to Hong Sisters. I was in “Yay!” and “Oh No!” reactions upon his news regarding Best Love. Yay for the first time i saw him the news of him to join in Hong Sisters next drama, Oh No for him as second wheel…?!, and my fear for the stereotype of the second lead of Hong Sisters’ Dramas just drove me to ‘how dare you Hong Sisters?’, ‘what The..?!!’, ,’Okay, but please our beloved Hong Sisters, do not make him too evil villain this time’….*winkwink to Hong Jamae*. Haha.

It’s Hong Sisters indeed that could give him a quirky, cute, yet mild (so far) character Yoon Pil-Joo. So far his dorky character has more chemistry with our Heroine Ae-Jung actually (played by Gong Hyo-Jin) more than the Robo Dokko Jin (Cha Seung-Won). Seeing his character as Pil-Joo reminds me to his Who Are You days, when he acted as body owner of borrower/whimsical father of Gu Ara.

Ok, We’ll  see how it turns out later. I just hope The Hong Sisters won’t really drag him into too evil second male lead, which has happened in almost every second lead in their dramas (even the cuttie Jang Geun-Seok has tasted it in Hong Gil Dong).

I’m not gonna talking much about his character in Best Love, i just wanna rendezvous back my fondness of Yoon Kye-Sang!! =D

Double duty in acting as whimsical Father and cold Cha Seung-Hyo!

Okay, I’ll leave that to a later post (I don’t even know if can even muster enough words to write one cos I don’t even know how to describe what I’m feeling right now!@!@!).  I’ll get to the point – Never Forever.

Never Forever is a 2007 indie-flic made by Korean filmmaker/director Gina Kim (okay I have no idea who she was before I watched the movie, but NOW I know) which revolves around the dilemma, conflict and desperation suffered by an ordinary urban housewife striving to get pregnant. It is a film which explores the turmoil that a lot of women suffer and who can only crave and yearn to break free in silence.  A film of reality which some of us might not know of, or possibly know of, but cannot do anything to help.

Sophie Lee (played by the wonderful Vera Farmiga) has the world in her hands.  She’s married to a successful and big-shot lawyer (who loves her with all his heart). Lives in luxury. And has nothing to worry about. Or it seems. The ONE thing missing in the picture, her failure to get pregnant. Or to be more specific, her husband Andrew’s failure to get her pregnant. Imagine the pain and suffering having to see your loved one drown in misery of not being able to make a child (Andrew’s sperms are accordingly not strong and healthy enough for them to conceive a baby).  Coming from a Korean family (as we all know from watching Korean dramas), not being able to conceive is a big BIG NO.  You are considered  incompetent and  unqualified to be the the daughter of the family whose duty is to bear a child and prolong the bloodline. As such, Sophie’s pressure mounts day by day. Andrew nonchalantly dismisses their chances of having a baby whilst her mother-in-law continues to hope and pray to God for the baby that will not likely come. Sophie is desperate and torn. She juggles between wanting to make Andrew (and his entire family) happy and the distraught that this baby will never come. She needs to find a solution.

And a solution does come.

By way of another man. (HAJUNGWOO!!!!! <333 I just can’t help it )

Ha Jung Woo’s character Kim Ji Ha is a Korean illegal immigrant who is striving hard to stay put in America. His sole intention is to earn enough money to bring his girlfriend over and to live happily ever after right after when they settle down together. Sophie encounters Ji Ha during a short trip to the sperm clinic and decides to take the biggest bet of her life. She follows him. Tails him back to his apartment. And offers him a job. A job that he cannot refuse. A 300 dollar-per-session (romp) and an additional 30,000 dollar pay in return if she gets pregnant. Ji Ha accepts the offer. And they begin on a journey of sexual intercourse which eventually leads to something more. Something deeper and something more passionate than what they can never possibly expect.  Something which will drive Sophie to discover what she wants for once.

I’ve seen quite a number of similar-themed films. Films revolving around lonely (married women) who end up going out to find happiness and all that..etc.. and end up destroying the trust of the ones that they love and whatnot later on (when everything’s out of can). But Never Forever was different. It was special, at least to me. It didn’t have the makings of a sexual-oriented affair film, it didn’t have glossy or overwrought conversations. It didn’t overdo the oh-how-much-I-want-you thingy. And most importantly, it didn’t touch on racial or inter-marriage issues.  Instead, it  approached  love and second chance in life in a purely simplistic (but darker) approach.

It had a unique and intriguing charm and beauty that transcended norms and expectations of what we call RIGHT and WRONG. It explored love and passion with shades of guilt and remorse.  It paraded along the desperation of a lonely woman who wanted to be happy for once.  And it made me feel that altho the world has its eyes on you, in the end what matters, is you yourself.

What made Never Forever such a beautiful film for me was the quietness and serene undercurrent throughout.  It reminded me of the feeling that I experienced while watching Alone In Love. The stillness in the scenes, void of dazzling or eye-catching phrases. The silent thoughts of the characters. Their expressions which were done without having to say a lot.  Everything shown in what was not said instead of said. I do not think it is a perfect film (cos nothing is absolutely perfect in this world), but I do think that my after-viewing satisfaction and pleasure was elevated and heightened to a very high extent while watching the film.

Never Forever is a American-Korean joint collaboration. One would not expect a lot as such due to the cultural differences . But to be honest, I never really did feel a divide or a particular sense of Asian pride in that oh, yeah this white women’s doing this Asian guy..blah blah blah when watching the film. The racial issue did NOT even pop into my mind at all. It felt like I was watching a normal Hollywood indie flic. Of course, one would /may question the point of having to make Sophie a white woman or the other way round, make the third person an Asian or whatnot. Why? Why not just make a film with all white men and women, or with all Koreans in it? Wouldn’t it be sufficient to get the point and message across? That’s exactly what made me love the film more.  Gina Kim was able to incorporate the concept of inter-racial marriage/relationship in the film and make it look like a normal film of love, passion, loyalty and guilt. There was no emphasis on racial divide, cultural differences, communication gaps whatsoever. In the end, it was all about a woman’s liberation (white or not). And it did not even matter how she eventually got it in the end.

Vera Farmiga was stellar in the role of Sophie. If not for her gripping performance as the dilemma-stricken housewife who also wanted a second chance in love, the film would not have been the film I had seen and loved.  She made Sophie human but not in a detestable or resentful manner. She portrayed the guilt and remorse of falling in love with another man while still in love with her husband with so much conviction that it was just painful to watch.  She made Sophie a character worth empathizing for and if you were in her shoes, you’d do exactly the same thing. It was the best performance I have seen from an actress playing such a character. She was cheating, and yet, it was the right thing to do in my eyes.

Ha Jung Woo was equally the man of his own in here. He isn’t your typical handsome or dashing Korean hunk. His hair almost always disheveled. He doesn’t even wear nice clothes in the film. You probably wouldn’t even look twice or recognize him on the street if he walked past you. But he gave a splendid and convincing performance as Ji Ha. From the Ji Ha who took up the job just to earn extra cash to the Ji Ha who couldn’t resist the force of passion and love he had for Sophie. It was such a lovely and beautiful transformation. He didn’t have much to say. Most of his scenes were silent and quiet, most if not all centering on him thinking about his odd and developing relationship with Sophie. And when he did have something to say, it was powerful, strong and voluminous.

I honestly cannot believe that he did not do many prominent films before he took on this role. I cannot even believe that he wasn’t discovered earlier.  I’ve seen him in several projects over the past 2-3 years (I watched H.I.T, The Chaser and Fox Family) and while I thought he was a good actor, he just didn’t catch my eye. I was obviously SO WRONG. SO WRONG for the past 3 years. This man is a genius actor. G-E-N-I-U-S. How could I possibly have overlooked his charisma and talent back then? How could I not have noticed this man of such overwhelming talent.?! HOW COULD I?!!! I don’t know, maybe I was still young. But better late than never, now I know the wrath of falling for this man, cos I’m not having enough sleep?!!!! $%$@@#$@$#@$#@$@)

Look at the picture above.  If one does not see sizzles of chemistry, I will EAT myself. Vera and Ha Jung Woo had amazing chemistry together in the film. WORD. It’s the most brilliant and amazing element in the film which literally made me tummy flutter non-stop whenever they had a scene together.  They just clicked from the get-go. The language barrier was almost non-existent. They just devoured each other and savoured every single moment they had with each other. The sensuality and intimacy they shared was less than racy but poignant and no less moving.

Ha Jung Woo‘s English was passable (to me at least, English is my second language as well) but did not in any way hamper his performance as Ji Ha. His interactions with Sophie were equivalent to us seeing a normal couple interact (with no communication gaps or what not), and YET… their scenes together were just beautiful. So beautiful that you could just feel your heart thump harder whenever Ji Ha looked at Sophie with his soft and calming gaze. So beautiful in a sense that you’d want more of them together and not feel sorry at all together towards Sophie’s estranged husband. So beautiful that you’d want Sophie to just drop everything and rush to Ji Ha the next minute. I know it’s all wrong, in the moral sense of the word that is. But it’s just something one can’t help when watching the film. Something that one cannot explain.

Not to give anything away about the ending, but I can say it was appropriate for what the film was aiming for. I loved how it closed with us having to interpret what went on with Sophie’s life after the revelation. And I liked that it didn’t go towards the drastic or happily ever after route. It’s one of the rarest of circumstances when watching something that I didn’t need much of an explanation on what happened to the characters next and so forth. Everything was left hanging in a sense but yet I did not feel dissatisfied in any way. It was good enough for me.

If I had to rate Never Forever in a scale of 10 in its genre, I’d give it an 8.5. The film had what a lot of films of the same genre lacked – emotional connection done right.  Forbidden romance done right. And sexual/sensual emphasis done right (gosh, for once!). If the film had been longer, I’m sure it would have gone into overdone histrionics of Sophie indulging in self-destruction. And if it was shorter, we’d be complaining for the lack of the already so eye-catching intensity of Sophie and Ji-Ha. Overall, there wasn’t too much or too little of it in 2 hours and everything just fit perfectly into the time-span.

Never Forever.. Never Forever. I guess the film title explains it all. Nothing is forever? Even love?

One may not have a second chance in love after marriage. But then? Who are we to say?

Okay, this is such a random post. But it’s just an excuse for me to rant about the Ha Jung Woo <3. I just finished Hwang Hae (movie with Kim Yeon Seok and produced by The Chaser crew) last night, and Ha Jung Woo just rocked the movie like nothing. I won’t say it’s a brilliant movie or anything, but can I just say that Ha Jung Woo was phenomenal in it? He didn’t have much to say in the movie, but dayum, his charisma was just all over. The intensity in his acting, soooooo… chilling and calm that it’s scary. So gritty and riveting that it made me goosebumps rise. Aiks. Can’t emphasize more on how great an actor he is. You have to see this man act.

But this post is not solely about Ha Jung Woo. It’s also about his father.

Why? Because I just discovered that his dad’s a familiar face in Korean drama. A face so familiar that I’d never have guessed!

Kim Yong Gun, Ha Jung Woo’s dad? I can only say celebrity families are amusing. lol

Now I know where Ha Jung Woo got his acting chops from. Except he’s way BETTER.

Korean hallyu stars have gathered up to send their beloved stuff for charity auction. The Korean actors and actresses such as Kim Rae Won, Jo Hyun Jae, Lee Da Hae, Lee Jun Ki, Lee Min Ho, Gong Yoo, Ha Jung Woo, Kim Sun Ah and idol singers Super Junior,So Nyeo Shi Dae, Brown Eyed Girls, TVXQ! along with 130 Korean artists will give their private stuff for charity auction in Thailand for ‘KOREA FESTIVAL 2010′ in 30 Nov- 5 Dec at Esplanade Cineplex Ngamwongwan-Khearai to commemorate the 60th year of Thai soldiers who joined the Korean War 6.25.

The auction money will be given to those 3,00,000 people who suffered from the flood. The project is a collaborate between Thai-Korean embassy and KTCC (Korea Thailand Communication Center) with the support form Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand to organize this event to promote the Korean fever in Thailand

America’s very own CNN has hand-picked their personal top 20 South Korea’s Hottest Male Celebs through an internet panel, and has finally revealed their interesting results!

Just a preview of who some of these studly actors whose names were put onto the top 20 list are Jang Dong Gun, Won Bin, Joo Jin Mo and Jo In Sung.

CNN explained, “Without there being a single woman in doubt, these gentlemen are carrying out their excellence in skills from acting, modeling, to singing.”

The following attractive celebrity names are those that ranked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

CNN selectively chose Jang Dong Gun to be ranked 1st place:

“Even through the glamorous female actress, Go So Young, has already claimed him, it was interesting watching his on-screen activities for many years.”

I can’t freakin believe it’s December.  The end of the year means awards season in the entertainment industry, and Korea had its largest stage at the Blue Dragon (Chu-Ryong) Film Awards.  Unlike this year’s Grand Bell Awards, the Blue Dragon brought out the top stars.  (Although, Jang Dong Gun didn’t make an appearance, disappointing the media and fans alike.)  I’m a bit of a sucker for the red carpet, so I always find award season enjoyable.

As you can see above, Kim Myung Min and Ha Ji Won took home the best actor and actress awards for their love story in My Love By My Side.  This is his 2nd big win along with the Grand Bell, which would be equivalent to winning the Oscars and Golden Globes in the US.  Ha Ji Won caused a little stir without garnering a nomination at the Grand Bell, but happily took home the Blue Dragon.

Now onto what you’ve been all waiting for… pictures!

The beautiful and glamorous Ha Ji Won finally wins! I think she usually looks pretty good and really like her puffy dress. Not everyone can pull off a dress like this and I love that she does it with such grace. She’s one of the few who I think looked good with the underdone makeup in a neutral dress.

Best Actress nominee Choi Kang Hee (Aeja) is looking cute but a someout bridesmaidy in her black dress. (Well a bridesmaid for a Sex and the City wedding, but still a bit bridesmaid.) I wish she was wearing some color on her lips, which is going to be my big issue with everyone wearing neutrals.

Thirst stars Kim Ok Bin and Song Kang Ho are a bit of an odd match on the red carpet. I can do without the pink throw but I love the color of her dress and love her hair.

The reigning Best Actress, Son Ye Jin (White Night, My Wife Got Married) came all ruffled up. I don’t dislike the dress so much that I would say she’s the worst dress (a dishonor that she’s already received.) But it’s definitely not her best look. Again, how about some lipstick? I’m probably biased though because I love her.

Yoon Jin Seo (Return of Iljimae) could have looked total Hollywood glam from far away but the horizontal stripes and shaggy carpet is a disappointment when you get close.

Red carpet favorite, Han Ye Seul (Will it Snow at Christmas?) is in a ho-hum pink dress. I kinda want to rip off the flower and arm flaps, give her a necklace, and redo her hair and makeup.

The usually well dress Sunwoo Sun, Best Supporting Actress nominee for Running Turtle, really misses the boat with this pink muumuu.

Chu Ja Hyun (Portrait of a Beauty), Best Supporting Actress nominee is looking pretty ordinary in her shades of brown dress. And I think she’s wearing a leather belt from my closet.

Yoo Sun (Sons of Sol Pharmacy) is wearing such an old dress. I think she’s so beautiful, I wish she would make some better choices.

Kim Haneul (Road Number One, My Agent is a Girlfriend) is wearing a loosely corseted lace dress. She looks pretty but grandma with the lace. I glad she’s wearing some lipstick but wish it was a different color. Does no one like red lips anymore? The color looks flesh toned in these pictures but there were a few others that looked more gunmetal (which I like.) I wish she would have taken some high power flash pictures of herself and chosen a different dress.

Jeon Se Hong (Penthouse Elephant, Missing) looks normal from the front. You turn her around, take off her shawl and kapow – we’re hit with a fancy apron.

Kim Min Hee of upcoming Actresses, arrived in a black wedding dress. She’s gotten some good reviews on her look but I just don’t get it. I don’t like the flower belt or the tiny necklace she’s wearing, the no makeup face, and the slicked back hair. I think she’s quite pretty and reminds me a little of Natalie Portman. I wish she had done her hair differently or worn some makeup. Her big dress does make a nice backdrop for that last picture.

The 23 year old Lee Chae Young (Bisang) looks way too old and a little schizo in that dress. I like that she tried something different with her hair, but it’s a bit too much for that shiny sequined number.

Lee Shi Young (Descendants of Hong Gil Dong) looks so timid that it feels like she borrowed her mom’s dress and came to an awards party by accident. I like her dress but she looks so uncomfortable that it’s hard to enjoy it. I do wish she pulled her hair back or kept it wispy. That cut and length is way to heavy for that dress.

Best New Actress nominee Oh Yeon Seo (A Blood Pledge) is in a platinum crinkly number. Again, the 22 year old is dressed way to old for her age.

The Speedy Scandal family, Park Bo Young, Cha Tae Hyun, and the cutie Wang Suk Hyun walked the red carpet together. I love that Park Bo Young, 19, always wears something age appropriate. I don’t love her dress but it works for someone her age.

Best Supporting Actress winner, Kim Hae Sook (Thirst) looks great in her floor length sequined dress, escorted by Shin Ha Kyun.

Jang Young Nam (Hero, Aeja, Good Morning President) looks pretty, albeit a little boring. I like her hair quite a bit and wish I could see the dress with the fur shawl.

Best New Actress Award winner, Kim Kkot Bi (Breathless) looks cute in her pink dress and Jo An (Bronze Medalist) looks… shiny. The color looks a bit too severe in photos but I think it could have been beautiful in person.

The co-host of the evening, Kim Hye Soo (Style), oozes sexiness in her keyhole dress.

Yay! Chun Jung Myung (What’s up Fox) is back from the army! His jacket looked really funky with the flash but he looks fabulous as he walks Han Ye Seul during the ceremony (picture below). Can’t wait for his first project!

Go Soo (Will it Snow at Christmas?, White Night) is one good looking man. I’m not sure if I like that purple tie/vest combo, but he’s so good looking. Kinda reminds me of old time Hollywood – Gregory Peck maybe?

I don’t mean to shaft the men but it always happens doesn’t it? Best Actor nominee, Ha Jung Woo (Take Off) always looks dapper and Jin Gu (Mother) takes home the Best Supporting Actor award.

Best Supporting Actor nominee, Lee Min Ki (Haeundae) looks a little like a pop idol rather than a movie star. (Doesn’t he look a little like Hee Chul?) But he can do no wrong in my eyes. Kim Min Joon (Friend, Our Legend) is doing different with a striped tie and gray suit, but I don’t think it suits the red carpet.

Song Chang Eui from non-watched drama Cinderella Man, was nominated in the Best New Supporting Actor category for Once Upon a Time in Seoul. Lee Byung Hun showed at during the award show to pick up his Popularity Award. He apparently didn’t have enough time to change and came in his regular street clothes.

The trio of Rain, Kwon Sang-woo and Kim Sung-soo launched an online shopping mall, aptly titled CelebShop, featuring their clothing labels- Bi’s “SIX to FIVE”, Kwon Sang-woo’s “The Guy” and Kim Sung-soo’s “Dear Gentleman”

The 46th Dae Jong (Grand Bell) Awards took place on 11/6. It’s the oldest film award in Korea and is considered to be one of the most prestigious award in Korea, along with the Blue Dragon Awards. The Dae Jong Awards had its share of controversies again this year, due to the lack of certain names in the nominations: namely Ha Ji Won (Haeundae, My Love By My Side), the Jury Award winner at Cannes – Park Chan Wook‘s Thirst, and Kim Ji Woon‘s The Good, The Bad, and The Weird.  The Awards have seen its share of controversies in the past due to accusations of bribery and corruption.

As much as I enjoy award shows and respect the movies nominated (I try to watch the Oscars noms before the show airs),  its usually difficult to capture all of the best films of the year.  And each award tends to skew to its preferences, meaning sometimes a good movie (aka Thirst) or good actor (aka Ha Ji Won) doesn’t get acknowledged.  I don’t think it’s such a big deal really.

Without further ado, here are the red carpet pics:

Best Actress and Actors: Soo Ae and Kim Myung Min
(Soo Ae’s dress looks a bit like a bed dress? And I think she needs a bit more makup. This isn’t Kim Myung Min at the award show but I couldn’t find a pic of him.)

(Jang Geuk Suk is so cute!! And Kim In Kwon looks pretty good also in all black.)

(Kim Min Sun’s mermaid dress is a bit too sparkly for my taste, although I love the color. Kim Young Ae looks great, very age appropriate. Whereas Choi Kang Hee, looks a bit decade and age inappropriate in that dress.)

(Kang Ji Hwan is a handsome man, but his jacket looks a bit odd. Maybe the fabric just doesn’t photograph well? I have no idea what the usually cute Kim Kkot Bi is wearing.)

Best Actress/Supporting Actor/New Actress Nominees: Jang Nara, Jin Gu, Joo Ni
(Jang Nara asymmetric look is a bit off. Does the hair to the right and dress to the left cancel each other out? Jin Gu and Joo Ni are very cute together, although I can do without her odd white slip.)

(I think these 2 are the best dressed of the evening. I wish they were wearing a bit more color but the dress looks great on both ladies.)

Hong Soo Hyun (Rough Cut), Jeon Se Hong (Missing)
(Hong Soo Hyun’s dress is quite beautiful, albeit a little low cut. I love the color. Jeon Se Hong misses the mark again in a weird cut out dress that makes her look much older than 26. And this after the green atrocity she wore to the PIFF. Yikes.)

(I love Ha Jung Woo in almost anything, even his red velvet bow tie. Haha, cute. Kim Nam Gil’s tux is pretty fantastic.)
