Haarlem, 14 november 2009 Hi, dat is alweer een tijdje geleden dat ik je voor het laatst mailde

Ik wilde graag zeggen hoeveel wij, het jonge team van thuiszorgInHolland, we jou waarderen dat je met ons wilt/wilde werken. Ken je thuiszorgInHolland (schoonmaken bij ouderen thuis) uit Haarlem nog? Als je nu voor ons werkt (bijbaantje of full time) wel natuurlijk. Als je gestopt bent of ooit bij ons hebt gesolliciteerd (of mij alleen maar kent) dan toch graag even doorlezen! ============================================= Iedereen heeft een droom. Die van ons bedrijf is in nu, november 2009 uitgekomen. Door hard te werken, bij de client thuis, heb je ons bedrijf laten groeien in heel Noord Holland. Op 1 januari volgend jaar, hebben we echter ook contracten afgesloten met de volgende gemeenten: Haarlem, Abcoude, Leiden, Oegstgeest, Wassenaar, Voorschoten, Breda, Aalburg Leeuwarden, Provincie Drenthe Tynaarlo, Assen, Hoogeveen, Coevorden Aa en Hunze, , Borger-Odoorn, Coevoorden, de Wolden, Emmen, Meppel, Midden Drenthe, Noordenveld en Westerveld Noord Veluwe (Harde, Nunspeet, Ermelo, Zeewolde) Almere, Amersfoort, Leusden, Baarn Omdat we dit eingelijk nog maar net gehoord hebben van de gemeenten, krijgen we het nog druk met het aannemen van nieuwe thuiszorgmedewerkers. Dus we juichen niet te vroeg, we moeten de klus wel samen (met jou!?) gaan oppakken. Ken je vriendinnen, nichtjes of tantes die in die steden wonen. Wil je ze deze mail dan doorsturen? Je hebt plezier in huishoudelijk werk. En je vindt het ook gezellig om (onder werktijd) een kopje koffie of thee met de klant ( vaak oudere mensen) te drinken en een gesprekje te voeren.

Je kunt goed bepalen wat er per week in huis moet gebeuren en kan ook luisteren naar wat de cliënt van je vraagt.

Je vindt het geen probleem om met de fiets naar de cliënt te gaan.

Ervaring als thuiszorgmedewerker is niet vereist maar als je al bij ‘mensen thuis’, in de horeca of  in een winkel hebt schoongemaakt, dan is dat natuurlijk ook goed.

Wanneer je zelfstandig een eigen huishouding hebt, dan kan jij zeer waarschijnlijk ook voor ons werken.

Haarlem's lively Market Square

If you’re in the Netherlands and decide you want a break from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam, consider taking a day trip to Haarlem.

Yes, this is the same Haarlem that gave the American Harlem its name back when New York was still New Amsterdam.  Once a thriving commercial center rivaling Amsterdam, the Dutch Haarlem of today is a small but lively market town and attracts visitors from all over Europe.

Only a 15-minute train ride from Amsterdam, Haarlem itself is charming and picturesque, best seen by foot or by bike.  If you have a choice, try to go on a Saturday where the general market takes place in the 700-year-old Market Square, and where venders sell cheese, fish, flowers, and small souvenirs to eager locals and tourists.  Or you might want to hit the Monday market for great deals on clothing.

If you miss the markets, be sure to still hit up the Market Square – get a beer or a coffee and people watch, or build a picnic with local Dutch foods like raw herring, local cheese, or Dutch fries (a great way to save money!).  Dutch people really like to relax and enjoy a drink or a snack for a couple of hours, and this is a great way to take in the local culture without having to spend any money.

And if you’re looking for a little local history, be sure to check out the Grote Kerk (Great Church), one of the most well known landmarks in the Netherlands.  Or take a peek in the small History Museum to get a sense of the old Haarlem.  But be sure to do plenty of walking around as well – you can get a wonderful sense of the town and culture by looking at the architecture and talking to a few locals.

Since Amsterdam is so close by, nightlife isn’t a big attraction in Haarlem – but you can still find a few brown bars open late if you decide to stay the night.  Or you can always get a late train back to Amsterdam where the bars stay open until 2 a.m. on weeknights and 3 a.m. on weekends.

Haarlem is well worth a visit, but don’t go on a Sunday!  Like many small European towns, pretty much everything is closed, and you’ll find yourself wandering without much to do.

Wat kan een mens toch gelukkig worden van een mooi stukske muziek. Gisteren togen de Bassist en ik helemaal naar Haarlem, alwaar hij voor ons een plekje op de gastenlijst had weten te bemachtigen voor één van ons beider favoriete bands: Motorpsycho. Deze driemansformatie uit Noorwegen (vooruit, tegenwoordig is de drummer Nederlands, en de halve crew trouwens ook) viert dit jaar haar 20-jarig bestaan met een (witte!) vinyl-only release van de nieuwe plaat Child of the Future en een fijne clubtour. Waar we dus gisteren een dagje van meepikten.

Noorwegen is het land van koude, diepe fjorden en hoge ruige bergen, van isolatie, noorderlicht, trollen, gletsjers en dure drank. Al deze elementen inspireren de band al 20 jaar tot het schrijven van nummers met een ziel. Zoals de band zelf zegt: ‘Remember, not notes — sounds, not phrases — feelings’. En dat is precies waar het bij Motorpsycho om draait. Het is de enige band bij wie het me niet kan schelen dat ze niet altijd zuiver zingen. Het is de enige band van wie ik het niet erg vind als ze vaag gaan lopen jammen. Sterker nog, hoe meer ze staan te freaken op het podium, hoe beter!

Zo ook gisteren. De jongens waren in briljante vorm en speelden wat mij betreft hun beste concert ooit (van de drie die ik gezien heb dan toch)! De setlist stond vol onverwachte maar zeer gewaardeerde keuzes en besloeg een aardig deel van de twintig jaar die de heren achter de rug hebben. Speciaal voor de Bassist speelden ze eindelijk eens Taifun live. Elk nummer werd uitgesponnen tot een jam van minstens een kwartier. Ik heb ruim twee en een half uur ononderbroken met een big smile op mijn gezicht staan luisteren, kippenvel all over. Mensen, ga die band ontdekken! Op verzoek wil ik u ook best een mixtape sturen.

Misschien toch ook noh maar een kaartje scoren voor het Burgerweeshuis de 15e..

Our houseguests in Amsterdam have queued for Rembrandt, van Gogh, Anne Frank and the canal boat trip. They’ve visited the red light district, for sociological research purposes of course. ‘So what else should we see?’ they ask.

‘How about Haarlem?’ I suggest.

They’re puzzled. ‘We’re not going to New York’s till next week.’

‘Not “Harlem”, “Haaar-lem”, the original one. It’s only twenty minutes by train from Amsterdam. An hour by bike if you feel energetic. No gospel choirs, but there’s the Teylers Museum. And Frans Hals, and some nice hofjes.’

‘Okay, Haarlem,’ they say. ‘On the train, if you don’t mind. What are hofjes?’

Haarlem Station is the oldest and surely the most beautiful in Holland. Polished wood, stained glass and decorative tiling reek of an era when travelling by train meant luxury, rather than something you do from necessity when your car’s being serviced.

As we walk from the station to the centre of Haarlem, the light is noticeably different from Amsterdam’s. It’s a more open, warmer and…well, a lighter light. Perhaps it’s because the buildings here are smaller, two or three storeys instead of Amsterdam’s usual four.

We reach our first hofje. Hofjes are housing complexes for the needy, which were originally erected by rich burghers who wanted to do good, and be seen to be doing good. Many are now national monuments, but often still lived in by single women. The 17^th century Hofje van Oorschot encloses a charming formal garden, open to the public on weekdays.

A little further on, St Bafo’s Church towers over the city square. With its cobblestones, step gables and cafes with outdoor terraces, the Grote Markt of Haarlem looks as much Belgian than Dutch. That’s no accident; Belgians designed most of it. Early in the 17^th century, Flemish refugees fled north to escape the Spanish occupation. Weavers and merchants brought Haarlem its wealth, and artists including Frans Hals from Antwerp and architect de Key from Ghent made it look good. Over a hundred artists worked here in the early 1600s, and over a quarter of private houses had paintings on the walls.

As well as their taste in art, the Flemish brought their taste in beer. Haarlem’s Spaarne River was polluted, so dune water was imported from the northern Netherlands province of Drenthe, turned into beer (the healthy alternative) and drunk by everyone, even children. Average 17^th century beer consumption in Haarlem was a staggering two litres a day, which makes us seem like pathetic underachievers. The poor however, could usually only afford ‘small beer’, low in alcohol. Haarlem Lite.

After a coffee in the art deco Grand-café Brinkmann, we’re ready for the museums and more hofjes.

As a child, I was very taken with the painting, The Laughing Cavalier. It’s in London, and I’ve only seen it in books. Frans Hals painted it in Haarlem. The Frans Hals Museum, also a pleasant hofje, was during Hals’ lifetime a home for old men of limited means. The rules were strict. Old men weren’t allowed to take more than one jug of beer to their rooms at night, which apparently caused some friction with those in charge.

Hals painted portraits of the committee members of the Old Men’s Home. They’re a particularly ugly lot. One male patron looks like he’s had his two litres of beer for breakfast, and more for lunch. The rumour was that old Hals was a resident of this home, and that the unflattering portraits are his revenge on his benefactors, perhaps for rationing his alcohol. In fact he never lived here. He was just an artist who chose to paint the truth, rather than crank out a pleasing portrait for anyone who paid the commission, as most of his contemporaries did.

As well as Frans Hals’ portraits, the museum has Ruijsdael landscapes, amazingly detailed still lifes by Pieter Claesz, and a useful explanation (in English) linking the art to its history. On the day of our visit the museum also has a temporary exhibition of dismembered terracotta corpses, human and animal, with tulips sticking out of them. Interesting enough if you like corpses, but I much prefer Frans and Pieter’s work.

A short stroll down the Spaarne is the Teylers Museum, a favourite of mine. It was Holland’s first museum, begun as the private collection of Mr Teyler van Hulst and opened to the public after his death in 1778. Outside, it’s a rather pompous grey edifice. Inside, the building glows. Creaky wooden floors, polished cabinets and ornate staircases are lit by natural light from the glass cupola above.

Though it has a tasteful new wing, this remains an old style museum. There’s little organisation or interpretation, but the objects are so beautiful and intriguing you don’t need to understand them. There are brass telescopes and scientific instruments in one hall, and a jumble of fossils and minerals in the next. There are ancient world globes with bad guesses at the Australian coastline. Eclectic Mr Teyler clearly had a great time putting it all together.

The mezzanine houses a library of leather-bound volumes. You need special permission to open them, and there’d naturally be a serious overdue book fine if you borrowed one and forgot to return it, but it’s nice to see them. On display is an ancient medical encyclopaedia showing how to deliver babies with mediaeval instruments. If you’re pregnant, look away now!

We have time left for one more wander in the bright little backstreets of Haarlem. There are no crowds and no queues. People chat. Haarlem seems happy that someone came along to visit, and we’re well pleased with our day.

In a final open hofje we meet a couple of lady residents sunning themselves in the garden over a cup of coffee. ‘Do you mind tourists coming through your backyard?’ we ask.

‘It’s part the deal,’ they say. ‘In return we live in a lovely place.’

People commute to work in Amsterdam from here. A twenty-minute train trip. An hour on the bike. I could live in a Haarlem hofje too.

Nu ik in het bezit ben van een OV-jaarkaart, moest het een keer mis gaan. Het ging immers al zeventien dagen goed. En juist nu, nu ik een kaartje voor de trein moest kopen, ging het mis. Ik zou met Monica naar Haarlem. Op zaterdag. Dan moet je dus een kaartje kopen. Maar als die-hard treinreizigers, zou het toch wel goed gaan.

Nadat we netjes een kaartje hadden gekocht, zonder dat zelfs mijn pinpas in de automaat bleef vastzitten, stapten we dapper naar spoor vier. Daar zou de trein naar Amsterdam vertrekken. Op het bord stond ‘Let op omroepbericht’. Ik zat al bijna een half uur onder het blauwe vertrekbord te staren naar spoor 19. Ondertussen had ik geluisterd naar de omroepberichten, maar spoor vier noch Amsterdam kwam voorbij. Dus stapten we gewoon de trein maar in. Voor de zekerheid keken we nog even op het bord. Arnhem en Epe stond er op. Ietwat verbaasd en vooral onzeker keken we in de rondte, op zoek naar een conducteur. Geen conducteur te bekennen. Een meisje vertelde ons dat dit de trein naar Amsterdam was, en we stapten in. We verorberden onze Burger King, zonder krulfrietjes, de dame die ons hielp snapte ons niet helemaal. De conducteur riep wat om. Gelukkig voor de trein vertrok, meestal doen ze dat op het moment dat je niet meer uit kunt stappen. Hij vertelde ons dat we via Hilversum naar Amsterdam gingen. Daar kwam Monica net vandaan.

De trein begon te rijden. Langzamerhand kwamen we aan op Hilversum. Tegenover ons stond de trein naar Amsterdam. Aan de overkant van het perron. We renden naar buiten en stapten de trein in. Maar goed ook, want onze oude trein bleef nog even gezellig theeleuten op Hilversum Centraal. Toen ook eindelijk ik mijn grote beker cola op had, kwamen we in de buurt van Amsterdam. Daar begon de ellende. Er was iemand voor de trein gesprongen. Traject? Amsterdam – Haarlem. En wij moesten naar Haarlem. Een groots avontuur stond ons nu te wachten. Via Uitgeest naar Haarlem. We liepen naar het juiste spoor. Dachten we. Aangekomen op spoor 11b vroegen we ons af waarom er ‘Alkmaar’ op de bordjes stond. We liepen voor de zekerheid naar 11a en daar bleek de trein al aan te komen. De stoptrein naar Uitgeest.

Samen met heel veel mensen, nooit geweten dat Haarlem zo populair is, stapten we in. Bij ieder stationnetje dat naderde, riep de conducteur hetzelfde. Iets in de trant van ‘Voor de richting Haarlem kunt u gebruik maken van deze trein. Bij Uitgeest kunt u overstappen.’ Uitgeest kwam in zicht. Met dezelfde mensen stonden we al bij de deur. De aansluiting bleek nauw. Tot overmaat ramp bleek je ook nog eens een trap af te moeten rennen, een openbare weg over te moeten steken, nog een trap af te moeten rennen, een trap op te moeten rennen en vervolgens naar het einde van het perron. Maar we haalden het. Niet veel later zaten we in de trein naar Haarlem. We bedachten ons hoe mooi Haarlem zou zijn volgens velen. Hoe we eigenlijk een hele dag hadden willen spenderen in de hoofdstad van Noord-Holland. Tot we bedachten dat we nog moesten uitvogelen hoe we ooit bij de Patronaat zouden komen.

Went to Haarlem yesterday to witness a live rendition of ‘Mock Interiors’ by electronic/laptop artist Esther Venrooy and piannist Heleen Van Haegenborgh. The album ‘Mock Interiors’ was released in 2008 by Entr’acte; It’s one of the finest releases I’ve heard in the last few years. A sensitive and delicate collaboration, touching extremes: from stark piano minimalism to hyper designed yet sensitive soundscapes. The album is filled with levels and dynamics that they managed to perform live with amazing clarity, concentration and dedication. Big Up!

A couple of days ago I decided that this blog has to survive.

Today I went to Haarlem, a small city near Amsterdam, where live a lot of people that works in Amsterdam. Haarlem is like a suburb. Beautiful suburb.

I got the train from Den Haag Centraal station and it’s curious the direct train take 15 minutes more than a train with 1 change (the train I got).

I went there only few hours, I had a walk in the city center, I visited the Teylers museum but I couldn’t visit the Frans Hals museum as well because was too late.
One of the symbol of this city is the Molen de Adriaan, really dutch!

After having lived in Spain for three and a half years, the time has come to start looking for our own house here. That’s why we put our house in Haarlem, the Netherlands, up for sale. For those of you who are interested and who can read Dutch, here is a brief description:

Yes… that was my sustenance this weekend.  Leaving the flat seemed like far too much effort after the carnage of Friday night, so my diet got based on what was left in the house.  So peanut butter and Ben & Jerry’s!!

So yeah, Friday!!  It was Erica’s birthday so we were going out in Haarlem which is just south of Amsterdam.  First we went out for a lovely tapas with the obvious sangria   We then moved on to a bar/club just around the corner which was really good fun.  Haarlem is really pretty as well which I wasn’t expecting, there is this massive square right in the middle with a bit old cathedral.  I would have taken pics but was a bit drunk by that point!  I didn’t get many pictures throughout the entire night actually.  But here are a few:

And in the bar towards the end of the night.  I only took one pic in there so its not great but Almi’s (the girl doing the pointing ) face made me laugh.

I decided to go home about midnight.  I was feeling very tired and there were a couple of coupley couples (wow that’s a lot of couples) who I was fighting the urge not to scowl at

So ended up talking to Bas for like half an hour on the way home about god only knows what.  Then was sitting on the train with my ipod on full volume which usually indicates that I don’t really want to talk to anybody.  At Leiden a load of late teens/early twenties got on  and proceeded to poke me till I took my headphones out and then spent the rest of the journey back trying to chat me up.  With cracking lines such as “Will you have sex with me”, my response “tempting though that is I think I’ll pass”.  There was another one who’s age dropped 2 years every time he spoke to me and then another who was asking me if I knew every British person he’d ever heard of.  I think he’s now convinced that I know Prince William personally.

Got back to The Hague and decided that actually I didn’t feel like going home yet so texted some people and went and met up with Gustavo and Mo and some of their friends.  Now I was already pretty damn drunk by this point.  Ended up staying out till about 3.30 after going to the Paap and then walking the longest route ever with Gustavo to find a damn taxi.  Got home about 4 then decided I couldn’t be bothered to go to bed so more chatting to Bas on the phone and then watched TV till 6!!!

The hang over on Saturday was very impressive I must say.  I was meant to be going to another birthday party on Saturday night but fell asleep on the sofa at 4 in the afternoon and woke up at midnight…. oops!!  I had one of those really really lazy weekends where I didn’t move off the sofa, didn’t get dressed and ended up eating the remains of my fridge which was ice cream and peanut butter… very Bridget Jones.  It was also the first time I let myself wallow a bit which I must say was very therapeutic and I’ve been totally hyper all week.

This week has been fairly quiet so far, Monday I ended up chatting to an old friend from Carlisle who I haven’t spoken to in years which was fabulous!!  Not only that I got offered a permanent contract at work which was fantastic news.  I was expecting to get offered a contract for 1 year to start with so I was bouncing off the walls after hearing that news.

Tuesday we had drinks at work to celebrate some good news and I’d hardly eaten anything at lunch so got a little tipsy from one beer… which was interesting seeing as I was getting a lift home with my boss!!  Then last night was great fun, went out with Clare who I haven’t seen since my birthday and since then has gotten engaged   So a big congratulations to Clare and Andy.  Now I have to start saving to get to Boston next September for the wedding!!  It was really great to catch up and give each other all the gossip as so much has happened in the last month and a half (plus there was a very very yummy bar man who was game for a little flirting ).

So tomorrow night I am out again then so far no plans for the rest of the weekend.  Will see what happens.  There is the possibility of going out in Amsterdam which I’ve never done but have to look at the cash flow before I decide upon that one!  If I end up with no plans I think I’ll go out with the camera again and see if I can get some nice local photos from the area I live in.

Haarlem is relatief slecht met Schiphol verbonden. Per trein moet de reiziger eerst richting Amsterdam, en vervolgens in Sloterdijk overstappen. Dat duurt 27 minuten, terwijl de stations 12 km uit elkaar liggen. De voorgestelde Haarlem-aftakking van de Schiphol-bypass zou de reistijd vanuit een tweede terminal (of een tweede station Schiphol-Centrum) drastisch verkorten. Vanuit Haarlem ten zuiden van de binnenstad, zou het echter nog een omweg betekenen.

De enige rechtstreekse verbinding is de Zuidtangent. Deze HOV-baan heeft wel haltes in de binnenstad en Schalkwijk. Verder loopt het over een 25-km vrije busbaan, naar Schiphol-Centrum. Deze maakt echter een lange omweg via Hoofddorp (groene lijn op de kaart). Het zou een eventuele tweede terminal ook niet kunnen bedienen. Het voorstel hier is een nieuwe rechtstreekse lijn, van Haarlem-Schalkwijk naar Schiphol-Centrum (blauwe stippellijn). De lijn zou dwars door de Haarlemmermeerpolder lopen, evenwijdig aan de Vijfhuizerweg. Het kruist de locatie van de tweede terminal, in de hoek tussen de Zwanenburger- en Buitenveldert- banen. (Zie de kaart tweede terminal, development option 6P).

De Zuidtangent is zo ontworpen, dat het in een tramlijn omgezet kan worden. Het hier voorgestelde tracé kan uitsluitend met geboorde tunnels uitgevoerd worden, en daarbij past eerder een tramlijn. Een tram is ook in alle andere opzichten beter – het is louter een geldkwestie, dat de Zuidtangent eerst als busbaan opgeleverd werd.

Het nieuwe tracé zou beginnen op de Bernadottelaan in Schalkwijk. De huidige Zuidtangent maakt een bocht aan het einde van deze straat: de trams richting Schiphol zouden in tunnel duiken, en een veel ruimere bocht maken. De tunnel kruist de Ringvaart van de Haarlemmermeerpolder, en passert Vijfhuizen aan de noordkant. De enige halte op het nieuwe tracé komt hier, ongeveer 1200 m ten noorden van de huidige Zuidtangent-halte. Deze halte kan wel op maaiveld-niveau.

Vanaf deze halte, loopt de lijn kaarsrecht door de polder, onder de Polderbaan, en de Hoofdvaart. Dit stuk is evenwijdig aan de oude kruiswegen van de polder, die haaks staan op de hoofdvaart. Bij de snelweg A5 draait het tracé, om de Zwanenburgbaan onder een rechte hoek te kruisen. Er volgt dan een rechte stuk: dit is de plek van een eventuele (ondergrondse) halte, bij een tweede terminal. Daarna draait de lijn 90 graden, kruist de A4 en de Buitenveldertbaan, en eindigt bij een halte onder (of naast) het terminal-gebouw.

Het nieuwbouw-tracé, bijna geheel in tunnel, zou rond 9500 m lang worden. Uiteraard is dit een moeilijk project: de lijn kruist drie landingsbanen, twee snelwegen, en het platform bij de terminal. Het voordeel is de korte rijtijd, over het deels kaarsrechte tracé. Met een top-snelheid van 80 km/h, en één tussenhalte, moet een reistijd van 11-12 minuten Schalwijk Centrum – Schiphol haalbaar zijn. Met aangepast materiaal, kan dat nog korter. De resterende 3,3 km tot de binnenstad (Verwulft) moet een tram in minder dan 10 minuten doen. De reistijd tot aan het station is minder relevant, omdat de voorgestelde spoorverbinding een beter alternatief vormt.

Het spreekt vanzelf, dat het aansluitende vervoer ook verbeterd moet worden, bijvoorbeeld richting Heemstede. Een tramlijn naar Heemstede, over de Europaweg en de Schouwbroekerbrug, is daarvoor de ideale oplossing.

Het boek Sporen, een zoektocht langs de resten van de Haarlemmermeerlijnen, is een uit de hand gelopen serie in Haarlems Dagblad en het Leidsch Dagblad. Op de verhalen rond het in 1935 gedeeltelijk opgeheven lokale spoorlijntje kwamen zo veel reacties dat de serie in 2007 is gebundeld.

De serie en het boek besloegen echter maar één deel van de Haarlemmermeerlijnen, het stuk tussen Haarlem, Amsterdam en Leiden. In Sporen II, waarvoor nu de voorbereidingen worden getroffen, wordt het tweede deel beschreven: het stuk tussen Alphen, Nieuwersluis en Amsterdam.

Vanochtend fietste ik door de buurt Rozenprieeel - een trip langs memory lane. Ik herinnerde me de keren dat ik – gloednieuw in Haarlem – verdwaalde terwijl ik één straat van mijn huisje verwijderd was. Ik herinnerde me de vervreemding maar ook de verwondering. Wat een prachtige plaats was Haarlem. Als ik nu ook nog het station kon vinden…

Tweeënhalf jaar later zijn de straten van Haarlem centrum in ieder geval redelijk vertrouwd. Ik woon al in mijn tweede huisje hier, en er zullen er nog wel wat volgen. Ik heb een leuke kerk waar ik goed geïntegreerd ben, en ik ben na meer dan 10 jaar weer begonnen met korfbal. Als ik door het centrum loop, kom ik regelmatig mensen tegen die ik ken; als ik oppas voor poes Penelope nodig heb, weet ik zo al een paar mensen; ik weet het lekkerste Indiaase restaurant te vinden, en alle bioscopen, en de fietsenmaker, de kapper, de beste tapas en een rits boekwinkels. Herinneringen heb ik overal in Haarlem. Maar Rozenprieeel, waar het allemaal begon, blijft memory lane…

It was more like piratefest. Swashbuckle and Alestorm at the same venue is like a recipe for tavern wench drinking than sacrificing to Odin. Me and my friend were late, so, we missed Swashbuckle and Ex Deo (but the drummer from Swashbuckle gets a 10 for wearing a parrout suit afterwards).

We also missed most of Alestorm, except the end, but fuck these power metallers that can’t take themselves seriously at all. Ok, they’re not HammerFall. Or Rhapsody of Fire. But they’re still a bunch of weirdass Scottish pirates. With songs about beer and pirates. And drinking. And they’re still quite lame.

Alestorm get 4 “ahoy matey, you can go scrub the deck”’s out of 10.

Die Apokalyptischen Reiter were pretty good. If they didn’t have a guy in a bondage costume (how is that pagan anyway) they might have scored a point higher. Also if I actually knew their songs. But they weren’t bad, and I actually might want to listen to the studio stuff now to check if they’re just a (good, unlike Alestorm) live gimmick, or actually worth the bucks.

Unleashed are solid death metal. No idea what they were doing on this tour, considering most of it was rather melodic humppapa metal, but they were excellent, the best band of the night in my opinion. I like my paganism with balls, they are excellent at providing me with some (and giving me a headache of epic proportions. Which I already had, but anyway).

Unleashed get 7.5 Dutch hammer battalions out of 10.

I didn’t see Korpiklaani because we had to get the train home. Sucks for them, good for me, never liked Korpiklaani anyway.  So fuck them. 1/10

I don’t have any setlists. Poor 3 readers of the blog.
