Lagi lagi OS X kembali dijebol agar bisa berjalan dengan atom procesor. Perusahaan Apple sebelumnya menutup sistem operasi mereka dengan OS X 10.6.3, sehingga OS tidak bisa berjalan di mesin Atom procesor.

Alasannya, OS X tidak boleh digunakan untuk Netbook, dan hanya computer yang diberikan ijin oleh Apple.
Sejak Apple mengunakan procesor Intel, urusannya jadi rumit.

Atom procesor atau dikenal dengan Netbook murah jadi target agar bisa menjalankan sistem operasi Apple.
Setelah Apple menutup pengunakan update OS X 10.6.3, maka Netbook tidak bisa mengupdate sistem update Apple.

Kali ini kembali dibuka. Seorang asal Rusia membuka sistem OS X 10.6.3. Sehingga Netbook tetap saja bisa menjalankan OS X dari Apple. Mereka mengembalikan sistem Kernal OS X  untuk Atom procesor.

Kenapa OS X sengaja dibuka. Karena banyak penguna OS X mencari harga murah dari perangkat hardware. Dibandingkan harus membeli hardware dari Apple yang cenderung lebih mahal. (Ketok)

Sebagian besar dari gambar diatas gw ambil dari flickt dan umunya mereka menggunakan proc intel core2,core2quad ato malah core i7. Keren banget dan gw suka apalagi klo udah pake casing “muahall” pula ditambah monitor kelas raksasa juga,berasa menggunakan mac beneran(imac). Proof of concept klo OS X bisa dijalankan di PC biasa belum lagi netbook dell mini inspiron yang sudah diinstall OSX ditambah mac case abal-abal.

Di gambar2 ini umunya graphic card yang digunakan adalah nvidia 9800GT,9800GTX ato 9600GT tapi ada juga kok yang pke ATI cuma gw lupa gambar yang mana,klo ga salah di setting dual monitor juga. dia pake ATI 2600pro sama yang XT truz ga lupa seri mainstreamnya ATI yaitu 4850 yang dulu hampir gw beli sebelum akhirnya memilih geforce 9600 GT So pengguna ATI Card tidak perlu khawatir desktopnya ato laptopnya ga bisa di hackintosh kan karena beberapa produk apple juga mengunakan chip grafis dari ATI seperti iMac series dari Macbook pro jadul.

Seperti kata temen SMA gw yang komen di FB “berani melawan system”….mari kita lawan sistem…klo kata pengusaha ini seperti sebuah anti kemapanan…halah…hehehehe….

So you are probably aware of what a hackintosh is by now. If you aren’t then you might consider reading my page about hackintoshes on this blog as it gives some interesting links etc.

I have just bought a Dell Mini 10v purely for its hackintosh ability and the fact that I want a small lightweight machine that I can travel with and rely on. Enter OSX.

There are plenty of great install guides over at the wonderful website My Dell Mini which got me up and running within a couple of hours with Snow Leopard 10.6.2. That’s right, despite the rumour of dropping Atom support it does actually work quite easily.

Even though the install was really quite painless I cannot say the same for upgrading the RAM to 2GB. Thanks for not providing a service hatch Dell. EVERYTHING has to come out of the case, not really one for the faint of heart, but more time consuming than difficult really.

So now I am left with a 2GB Atom 1.67ghz netbook running Snow Leopard. Running it well too. So this blog will take up the job of providing information about my foray into portable hackintosh, as well as details about my Quad Core desktop hackintosh and the HTPC hackintosh that I will be building in late December to stream networked media to my bedroom via Plex.

After several days of command line hacking my new Hackintosh computer is finally finished to perfection. It took a few days to get everything working. This ASUS 1008HA is not the most compatible with Mac OS X so a lot of things had to be tweaked. There was some drama yesterday when I went to install the new version of iTunes. Somehow during the process the computer automatically upgraded to Snow Leopard’s newer version, 6.2. This caused the computer not to work because that newer version uses drivers and extension files that are not supported by the Intel Atom processor that Netbooks use. I ended up keeping the newer version of OS X but switched the drivers, etc back to the ones used on the previous install and everything is working again. At least we now know that a Hackintosh will run on 10.6.2 as long as you modify the files. I still can’t get over what a beautiful machine this is,  inside and out.

Hace un tiempo supimos que la versión 10.6.2 de Mac OS X anulaba por completo la compatibilidad de Snow Leopard con los procesadores Intel Atom, ya que Apple no contaba con equipos que usarán esta tecnología dentro de sus filas, por ende la compatibilidad del sistema con dicho hardware solo se prestaba para el Hackintosh. Incluso aquella noticia fue comentada en ChilenoMac, lo que pueden vereficar en la siguiente entrada. Pero me he enterado de que el ‘efecto Hackintosh‘ es más fuerte de lo que Apple pensaba y la actualización de su último sistema operativo no pudo destruirlo por completo, o al menos así parece; y es que un talentoso hacker ruso ha podido modificar el kernel de Mac OS X 10.6.2: es decir, el corazón del sistema operativo fue modificado por otro ‘truculento’ archivo para poder restablecer la compatibilidad del sistema con los pequeños procesadores Intel Atom. Maniobra que, por lo bajo, podemos calificar de compleja, ya que para hacerla funcionar se necesita un conocimiento acabado de la terminal del sistema.

Desconcemos por completo las medidas que tomará Apple en la próxima actualización de Snow Leopard, y ni siquiera sabemos si Apple se pronunciará sobre este hecho, pero de lo que sí tenemos total certeza es que, cuando creíamos que la vida del Hackintosh se apagaba, se nos demostró que no será tan fácil derrotarlos como parece, y que los usuarios de netboooks aún tienen mucho que decir sobre el tema. La guerra contra el Hackintosh ha sido larga y, a mi parecer, lo seguirá siendo por muchísimo tiempo más.

¿Cómo hacerlo? Bueno, descarguen el kernel modificado desde acá y guárdenlo en el escritorio, y abran la terminal para ejecutar el siguiente código (rogando que el Hackintosh no salga volando):

1. sudo -s (acá ponen su nombre de usuario sin paréntesis)
2. cd /
3. mv mach_kernel mach_kernel_1062
4. cp ~/Desktop/mach_kernel /
5. chown 0:0 mach_kernel

Luego reinician el sistema, y esperan… para ver si les funcionó. Espero que les sirva, y que puedan estar a la última con sus Hackintosh; como decía más arriba, la guerra ha sido larga, pero creo que el ‘efecto Hackintosh‘ le da más salud a Apple aunque a ellos no les haga mucha gracia.

Of course this is just what I said earlier in a post would occur.  Hackers who are normally technically inclined are going to view any attempts to stop Hackintoshing as a challenge.  This is the same thing that happened with Movies and Music.  When people can figure out to get things for free, why should they pay?  Even better is the fact that some of the six million out of work people might feel abandoned by corporate America by loosing their jobs/layoffs so I suspect this attitude will get stronger.  Click here to read.

A member from InsanelyMac forums has apparently created a workaround allowing Intel Atom-based netbooks to upgrade to OS X 10.6.2. The 10.6.2 update had specifically disabled native compatibility with those processors.

Apple’s reason for disabling Atom compatibility in 10.6.2 remains unknown, but this workaround should fix the problem.

Ga tau sih apa bedanya tapi denger2 kalo USB di mac terdeteksi sebagai built in bakal lebih cepat proses trasnfernya. Masih seperti yang awal dimana masih saja expansion slot dari USB Device Tree. Untuk gambar yang diatasa adalah keterangan dari keyboard gw (USB Keyboard) Holtek Semiconductor, Inc. Sayangnya untuk keterangan USB Bus ga ada rate transfernya seperti gambar atas(keyboard). Sejauh ini klo transfer ga lambat2 amat sih,lumayan lebih cepet lah klo dibandingkan dengan VIsta tapi ga lebih cepet daripada Win XP. Jauh lebih lambat malah dan klo transfer antar HDD External ato Flashdisk suka gagal klo ukuran filenya gede (diatas 200mb). Solusinya kudu dikopi dulu ke desktop baru deh dipindahkan ke HDD/UFD lain.

Build a Hackintosh Mac for Under $800

When you see headlines like this, it really makes your consider trying out those Macs that everyone is talking so much about these days. One of the biggest barriers to switching to a Mac is that they are very expensive.   So, why not take their operating system that has gotten such rave reviews, and put it on a cheaper PC computer, right?

Since Apple has made the switch to using Intel and nVidia technology in their computers, they’re essentially the same stuff that’s in PCs too.   So why not?  Because Apple doesn’t let you.  Even if you bought the software, you are not allowed to.  You agree to those terms when you use the product.  I’ll better explain the ramifications, and headaches you will run into by making your own “Hackintosh” Computer.

Apple Legal Stuff and Licensing

Here are just a few things to consider if you want to legitimately use the Mac Operating System on a non-Mac Computer.  This is concerning the software license around the OS

Apple Legal – Software License for Snow Leopard

0. Geography

What The Paperwork Says:“11. Export Control. You may not use or otherwise export … Apple Software may not be exported or re-exported (a) into any U.S. embargoed countries or (b) to anyone on the U.S. Treasury Department’s list of Specially Designated Nationals or the U.S. Department of Commerce Denied Person’s List or Entity List. “

What It Really Says: “It’s not a matter of copyright or distribution laws if you can use our software.  You have to be on the USA’s side.”

1. Liability for Damages

What The Paperwork Says:“In no event shall Apple’s total liability to you for all damages (other than as may be required by applicable law in cases involving personal injury) exceed the amount of fifty dollars ($50.00).”

What It Really Says: “We’re not responsible for the software we make.  If for some reason it hurts you, the most we’ll give ya is $50!”  — If you put it on another computer, you’re not in compliance and you dont get that $50!

2. Liability… Again

What The Paperwork Says:“SHOULD THE APPLE SOFTWARE OR SERVICES PROVE DEFECTIVE, YOU ASSUME THE ENTIRE COST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR OR CORRECTION.”

What It Really Says:“Should it be proven that our product is defective, your responsible for replacing and paying for the defective parts/repairs – even if it’s our fault” – Aside from your Mfr Warranty

3. Apple’s Rights With Your Computer

What The Paperwork Says:“Apple and its licensors reserve the right to change, suspend, remove, or disable access to any Services at any time without notice. In no event will Apple be liable for the removal of or disabling of access to any such Services. Apple may also impose limits on the use of or access to certain Services, in any case and without notice or liability.”

What It Really Says: “We can change, remove, or disable any part of your Mac computer at any time without any notice.  And you can’t come after us for doing it.”

4. The Types of Hardware Allowed to Run OSX

What The Paperwork Says: “You agree not to install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-branded computer, or to enable others to do so. “

What It Really Says:“If you bought this software, you can’t put it on any machine.  It has to be a Mac or else! And your not allowed to help or show others to do it”

5. General Licensing

What The Paperwork Says: “This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time.”

What It Really Says: “We license our Operating System no different than Microsoft.”

How Apple Reacts to Hackintoshers

Apple’s Snow Leopard Update Zaps Bugs, Kills Hackintosh Netbooks

When it comes to Apple’s feelings towards people making their own Hackintosh computers, please reference the link above.  That’s right.  Apple will fix the bugs in their computers, and shut down you hackintosh if you update.

Regardless if you have purchased the software or not legitimately, it is not in compliance with their terms of use.  Therefore illegal.  Therefore not supported.  Therefore it’s only going to cause you problems down the road – no matter what.

Apple will defend it’s intellectual property rights now matter what.  They are no different than Microsoft in this case.  Although they may find a way of warning you more “poetically,” like they did to the OSx86 project:

“Your karma check for today:
There once was a user that whined
His existing OS was so blind
He’d do better to pirate
An OS that ran great
But found his hardware declined.
Please don’t steal Mac OS
Really, that’s way uncool.
(C) Apple Computer, Inc.”

Apple’s code is often laced with lines that explicitly tell you  not to pirate their software, too.

Can I Buy A Pre-Installed Hackintosh?

Kinda-Sorta – But definitely not legally.  There is a company called PsyStar that has blatantly disregarded Apple’s License Terms and started selling PCs pre-installed with Mac OS on it.  Apple got angry.  So Apple sued, and won.  No big suprise there.

Apple Wins Big Against Psystar

In that case the judge also:

• Ruled out a “fair use” defense for Psystar
• Psystar also argued that it had the right to sell OS X as part of the first-sale doctrine. The judge ruled that any copies were not made with the permission of Apple
• Noted the copies installed on the Open Computers, in some cases, did not even match up with the “backup copies” sold together with the computers
• Said: “The inclusion of the copyrighted Mac OS X with the above-described additions and modifications makes Psystar’s product an infringing, derivative work”
• “The judge also noted that Apple had not raised claims on breach of contract, induced breach of contract, trademark dilution, and infringement, and other breaches of California law.”

PsyStar has been left without a legal foot to stand on.  The trial resumes December 14th.  But clearly Apple has sent a precedent to all those other people out there distributing and selling their own “Hackintoshes” that the matter will not be taken lightly by them.

I don’t know what the execs at PsyStar were thinking, trying to win a legal battle like this against Apple – over their own intellectual property. Quite frankly it was plain stupid of them.  For every copy of OSX they claimed to sell, they had a license agreement to go along with it.  Not once did ANYONE at that company bother too look at it.  Especially for a reseller to be selling illegitimate software, that doesn’t match the license on the machine.

That puts PsyStar in the “Pirate” category.  There’s nothing wrong with being a pirate (or a ninja for that matter).  But there’s something definitely wrong about cashing in on other people’s code, and exploiting another company’s intellectual property for your own personal gain.

Unfortunately,  with my experiences – it’s just plain simpler to install a netbook-ready distribution of linux on your computer.  Like Ubuntu Netbook Remix.

Been toying with running OS X on my clearly non-Mac hardware. OS X 10.5.8 Leopard works great. It’s completely stable and runs really well.

Also bought a copy of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and have been trying to get that installed but have been hampered by an install issue.

STOP! Others having this issue need to know that it isn’t necessarily going to dash their hopes of running Snow Leopard on their Hackintosh!

My issue is that during the boot of the DVD, it hangs after a certain part. No panics, or errors. It just stops and sits there. The issue is because I’m using a newer ATI chipset–a chipset that IS supposed to be supported. But if you just need to get it up and running, you can swap in an NVidia card and it should work long enough to get Snow Leopard installed.

So to anyone else having this issue: there is hope! It’s not your disc or necessarily your hardware. Probably just the video card is incompatible.

I’m working on a fix and I’ll post updates about it.

Computer mit dem Betriebssystem Mac OS X dürfen weiterhin nur von Apple kommen. Der US-Konzern setzte sich vor Gericht gegen die kleine Firma Psystar durch, die Allerwelts-PCs mit dem Apple-Betriebssystem verkauft hatte. Inzwischen bietet Psystar Software an, mit der sich Mac OS X auf nahezu beliebigen PCs installieren lässt.

Das Urteil eines kalifornischen Richters vom Freitag sichert Apples Geschäftsmodell, dass das Betriebssystem Mac OS X nur auf Geräten verwendet werden darf, die von Apple stammen. Mit dem Wechsel von Apple auf Prozessoren von Intel ist es technisch vergleichsweise einfach geworden, billigere Personal Computer auf das Macintosh-Betriebssystem umzurüsten.

So hatte Psystar vor rund eineinhalb Jahren angefangen, günstige und unscheinbare Geräte mit dem Mac-Betriebssystem zu verkaufen. Apple klagte dagegen bereits im Sommer 2008. Im Mai dieses Jahres suchte Psystar zusätzlichen Schutz in einem Insolvenzverfahren.

Der Richter entschied nun dem von Groklaw im Internet veröffentlichten und kommentierten Urteil zufolge, Psystar habe in mehrfacher Hinsicht die Rechte von Apple verletzt, unter anderem habe die Modifizierung der Mac-OS-Software gegen Urheberrecht verstoßen.

Rechtskräftig ist das Urteil als “Summary Judgement” noch nicht – aber eine überraschende Wendung zu Psystars Gunsten wird immer weniger wahrscheinlich.

U.S. District Court Judge William Alsup ruled on Friday that Psystar was guilty of copyright infringement against Apple, according to Natalie Weinstein of CNET. The whole case revolves around Apple’s Mac operating system. Unlike Windows or Linux, which you can install on whatever hardware you like, Apple only wants the Mac OS to belong to Apple computers.

That hasn’t stopped hundreds of enterprising hackers from building their own machines and installing Mac OS X. But because Apple designed the operating system with a particular hardware and BIOS configuration in mind, the OS doesn’t always work properly on an unauthorized machine. And the process of installing a non-native operating system is complicated and can require a lot of troubleshooting — it’s not something the computer novice should attempt.

That’s where Psystar stepped in. The fact that hackintoshes (the common name for a PC running the Mac OS) exist shows that people want computers running the Mac OS but they don’t want an actual Apple computer. Maybe they don’t like Apple’s product design, or perhaps they feel that the Mac line of computers is too expensive. In 2008, Psystar began to sell PCs running the Mac operating system. The company took care of the tricky process of installing the OS on non-Apple hardware (though Psystar also explained that the computer might not always behave as it should).

Apple slapped Psystar with a lawsuit claiming the company had infringed upon Apple’s copyright by installing the Mac OS on non-Apple hardware. Psystar countered that its approach fell under the protection of fair use. Psystar also said that Apple’s licensing agreement was unfair because it created a monopoly for machines running Mac OS.

The judge has sided with Apple on these matters, stating that Psystar is guilty of copyright-infringement and violating the Digital Media Copyright Act. Whether this means Psystar will have to stop selling their PCs remains to be seen. In December, the two companies will meet in court again as Apple lays further claims against Psystar, including trademark infringement.

This isn’t going to stop people from building their own hackintoshes. As long as Apple stays out of the netbook game, people will try to find ways to create their own Mac netbooks. It’s just going to take a lot more work than buying a computer from Psystar.

The process of coding a brand new website is well it’s way.  Each page comes together faster the one before as I become more skilled with the web design programs and create more of my own sample code to draw from. It’s like developing a repertoire of pieces of code for various site elements.

Also I am witching my domain name off my current hosting service and onto a new server which will host it. A file sharing interface allows me to upload site files such as html code files and images to the new server remotely, but I have not started this process yet and the site is still in the early stages of development. In a related project I will be installed a new, much larger hard drive which will run a modern Linux with a mac os x interface. The theory here is to slowly convert my home laptop into a desktop one component at a time starting with the hard drive. Once I get my new netbook set up there will be no point in having a home laptop.
