During my wedding planning stage, I was given the directive by my hair and makeup artist, Maria Chang of PMA http://www.mariachang.blogspot.com/, to keep my hair as is and to avoid cutting it at all costs. My vision of my wedding look consisted several hairstyles, so it was in my best interest to keep it long.

I was itching to do something fun to my hair, but I had wedding pictures in mind. So, now, being a past bride, I am at liberty to do what I wish to my hair. 1 week after I returned from my wedding, I made my way to the salon and got a Digital Perm!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_perm

My “going out hair” usually tacks on an additional 20 minutes to my “getting ready” routine due to my slavery to my curling iron. With multiple, failed attempts, the end look NEVER measured up to my vision and curls would never stay. With the digital perm, I now have beachy waves and I don’t have to do much! Now, I just use the additional 20 minutes for my hair towards my makeup! Oh what a patient husband I have

Models from Lanvin fresh off the runway on Stockholm Street Style. Some runway looks seem ridiculous on the street but these are so chic and can take you anywhere. The individual models have totally different personal styles and are rocking the look equally well.

You know those girls who have gorgeous, straight, silky hair?  The ones who get long, perfect strands seemingly without a blow dryer, a straightening iron, and a curling iron?  Yeah, thats not me.  I have always battled my hair which is curly/frizzy/wavy i.e. it has a mind of its own.  To make matters worse I have SO MUCH hair and its super thick.  My older sister even nicknamed me “Caveman.”  (Its been 15 since she called me that and she is still a mean b!@#$ but thats another whole post).

Anyway, circa 2001 a miracle happened.  The Japanese brought over the best thing they’ve ever invented…the Yuko system.  Finally, after years of trying every product to tame my hair, a single afternoon at the salon was all I needed to have smooth, fairly straight locks!  Sure it took about 4-5 hours of one-on-one time with an extremely quiet Japanese man who still doesn’t know much English but I didn’t need to battle with a hair dryer anymore. Every silent second was worth it. 

So I’ve done the straightening twice a year for about 5 years now, the last time being in April of this year.  Clearly I am due to visit my favorite Japanese man.  But this year I’ve decided to see if I could forego doing the process.  For one thing, I hate to be so dependent on anything.  Sound crazy?  Yes I know I have issues.  But another, more important reason is that there is something about the unknown chemicals in this product that makes me really nervous.  I guess I’ve heard Jillian Michaels talk about “chemical-free” lifestyle one too many times now.  I even gave up my beloved Pantene because of the sulfates.  I miss Pantene.  I miss sulfates. 

I am trying new, chemical free (or nearly chemical free) products to tame my frizz.  Since I’ve already tried Giovanni and Avalon products with no success, I decided to fork over big bucks to try Aveda’s Brillant line.

What a disappointment!  The shampoo is okay I guess but really did nothing more for me than any other shampoo I’ve used (including Suave which I used during my penny-pinching college days).  The biggest disappointment though was the Brillant conditioner which actually made my hair feel drier than it was before I used it!  Plus, I went through the bottle of conditioner in a week because it just wasn’t very moisturizing.  I thought I just wasn’t using enough but that clearly wasn’t the case.

Luckily Aveda actually does make a good product:

This anti-humectant pomade is fantastic.  It kept my hair under control during a very rare October storm we had here in L.A.  It also kept my hair straight during a massive downpour in Toronto a few weeks ago.  I am very impressed with this product.  A little goes a long way so I think it will last for a while which makes my $19 investment worthwhile. 

I also have this straightening iron.  This is one of the most amazing things ever because it heats up in a flash and straightens really close to the scalp.  But this makes me wonder, is it better to scald my scalp or use chemicals on it?  It’s a crap shoot either way I guess.

Lets see how long I can hold out.  I have a feeling that in a few more months the frizz will be so unbearable that I will be able to see it in my peripheral vision.  And then I’ll need to take drastic action.  I need a chemical-free miracle. 

It seems that Maya will also be needing this miracle in the not so distant future because the poor kid inherited my hair. 

I believe that one must always look at the silver lining though and in this case Maya should be grateful she has no sibling to call her a caveman.  I’m still getting over it.

Well, its pretty darn cold and dry here in Sacramento, and while fall in Sacramento is my favorite, my hair and skin begs to differ.  Here are a few of my favorite cold weather beauty tricks!

Every night, slather pure coconut oil (you can get it at the grocery store!) on your feet and hands, put on some gloves and socks, and dream your night away.  Say goodbye to unpleasant dry, cracked hands and feet come morning!

My hair is a static electricity mess, but by taking a dryer sheet and lightly running it over my hair, it gets rid of the static and smells oh so nice!  Not to mention clean laundry is my favorite fragrance of all time!

Try warming scents like ginger for your fall/winter signature fragrance.  They give your mind the illusion of being warmer than you really are.  Origins makes a delightful ginger fragrance that warms your spirit while it warms you up!

Use oil on your face at night to replenish your facial skin.  I love Nude Replenishing Night Oil, and it makes any dry patches disappear by morning!

Keep your lips moisturized with lip moisturizers rather than balms.  Origins Lip Remedy is the best lip moisturizer I have ever used, and only needs to be applied twice a day for some serious lip repair!

Pump up your lashes with falsies.  I like wearing false lashes in the fall and winter.  It gives your eyes extra definition on those darker overcast days.

Add some shimmer to your cheek bones.  Its easier to achieve that natural glow in those hotter months, so fake it instead.

Paint your nails in rich reds, purples, browns, and other jewel tones.  The great thing about fall and winter is the abundance of saturated colors that decorate your nails in holiday spirit.

Drink lots of water.  Just because the weather is colder, you can still get dehydrated.  If you aren’t adequately hydrated, your skin, hair, and nails will become dryer more easily.

Today I got the great honor to show you an upcoming awsome designers work. dianny3636 Aeon the new star on the SL’s hair sky!!!  She does some non usual very stylish fashion hair…the best for runway or every fashionista that dares to be different!

I will start with the Afrodita style:

This one i got i 3 colors. Brown, black and blonde. A not long not short right in the middle and perfect for poses…it fits perfect on the skull very tight..then a sweet braid piece of hair surrounds your head. Further down it looks like it was set free and sweet curls wave beside your face. I never saw such a style before.

The next one is called Ainhara. for this one i have so many color options that i had to split it in 2 pics to shou you all of them

Here we see all the great different colors of this hairstyle: auburn, black, blond, brown, caramel, golden blond, platinum and red. One color for each possibility and belive me one will fit to all you need This hair is perfect if you wanna show your earrings for example…it has no covered ears but is still a long hairstyle. The hair lays tight on the skull and goes down in the back very straight. It definitly features your face in a very nice way without showing your fore head too much!

My next one is named Ava and it has agin 2 pics not to miss any great detail for the colors…

This one is one of my personal favourites. A short and strict hair that let you many possibilities to combine it with something else like earrings, piercings, big make up or hair jewelry. The forehead is not too high, the ears not covered and also the neck is free to show some great jewelry! It is perfect for posing on pictures or on the runway and it also comes in all the nice colors as Ainhara. So you will have no problem what ever you wear one of them will match

Up next we have Coco:

Coco comes in the same 8 different hair colors and has nearly the same features as we had before for Ava. a short hair that gives you many posibilities…the forehead is a little higher and a big wave in the front makes me thinking of some rockabilly styled outfit for that…it is not as strict as the Ava style but also it lets you much space for mixing and matching accessoires!

Now we come to some very special…I fell in love as I unpacked it and tried it on…Marie Antoinette

Look at this…did you ever seen some like this?!? We all had a show with medival big gowns and went crazy by finding matching hair…this has an end now!!! 3636 Hair made the rescue… A very high and elegant hairstyle that makes the difficult posing of that big gowns not more hard then it is. To show the little idea of what iam talking of I have a nice example on my flickr…(you can click for a direct link to the picture…so I have not to include it here seperatly*winks*)

With this hair you can be a devil in disguise This hair gives you totally the look of a good girl…A short hair with sweet “roll” in the back. Like the other 2 hairstyles we had the ears and the neck are free. The fore head looks very small cause the hair in front comes very low in to the face. Get out your flowered textured dress and some pumps and you definatly will soften every males heart if you stand beside your car on a lonely road and your care break down*giggles*

So today, I really wanted my hair off of my forehead. I’m really not a fan of all that wet hair chillin’ on my skin for hours. Ick. To solve this problem, I sort of flipped my hair to the side. I thought it looked pretty wack, but what the hell, I was just going to the library. And then I felt like I had seen hair sorta like this before. Where, you ask? Oh yea…on Denise Huxtable! Here she is (Not sure why the pic isn’t showing up for some, here’s the entire link):

Hilarity. This pic totally reminds me of something with my mom–loves it. Okay, so here’s me.

Weird, right? Anyway, I’m totally trying to make my way towards the big chop, but I can’t seem to part with this mop on my hair. It’s like a fluffy pillow. And who doesn’t like pillows?! On another note, my scalp is itchy…I hope that’s the “my hair is growing” itch…I just washed it yesterday! Sheesh.

It really doesn’t matter how secure I am with  myself, rejection sucks. Especially rejection that comes with the words “no further actions will be taken.”

…

I mean, kudos for being honest, but perhaps my inner child could have been spared the scolding.

*sigh*

Oh dating. How you torture me so. I have no idea how I am expected to move on and find someone. A is the only guy to take an interest sincerely…but I really need him as a friend and we tried dating, failed and nearly ruined a friendship. Not taking that chance.

And if I don’t completely repulse people when they sober up, I scare them off with my lack of charm and charisma (which btw, are totally the names of the mother and daughter who live upstairs…I shit you not).

I had a moment while reading With An Open Heart (book by the Dali Lama) about Karma where I seriously had myself believing that I must have been scum in another life to get such shitty luck with dating. Then I read a dating book and realized that it’s just dating-not necessarily anything I did, in this life or another. But, you know, always room to improve that parts that I’m lacking in.

I’m feeling slightly gun-shy after the events of the past few days…like, I think I’m going to lay really, really…REALLY low for a while. Not as a pity thing, but in reality, I’m happy alone and unhappy when cute boys tell me politely to fuck off.

That’s not even a hard choice.

On the bright side, I continue my weight loss. Not so intentional at this point in time. I really just can’t afford food. So you know, I don’t buy it. I eat when it’s free or really cheap (re: left over Halloween candy). I don’t plan on having this go on forever, because at some point my body would refuse to live off refined sugars and I would die of some horrible disease related to malnutrition , but it works at the moment.

+ I look really good. I’m back down to a weight where my clothes fit nicely and are even a little bit big. It feels good to not feel fat. Coupled with the fact that I actually got a damn haircut, I look awesome

Yet, despite the recent boost in self-esteem due to just looking hot, I still feel pretty crappy about my dating life lack there of.

Good News or Bad News? Good News? Okay.

Good News:

1. I’m dying my hair tomorrow and I’m gonna make it fucking awesome red. They’ll be peekaboo highlights, so shocks of Matt red. :score:

Edit: just heard John and Karen talking. No red. FML.

Bad News.

1. Karen, as predicted, suddenly realised she didn’t mean it.

Sidenote: how fucking mean is it to tell your kid she can go to Wembley Fucking Stadium to see the most amazing band live in one of the most famous venues ever in the ENGLAND with her two best friends and see London and everything, and then say, “Oh, well, I didn’t really mean it, I wasn’t thinking.”

I’ve just given up completely on being mad at her. The sadness I’m experiencing right now is topping so many other sad things that have ever happened to me. It’s overwhelming it’s barely hit me, like I’m standing on top of a waterfall. I don’t know.

Yeah, I can wait for Muse to come here for the US Tour, but I’ll still have missed Wembley. Wembley has a personal meaning to me, and that in addition to the fact that it’s MUSE AT WEMBLEY FUCKING STADIUM just makes it all the worse.

My minor compensation is that I’ll make John and Karen pay for a minimum of five gigs on the US Tour.

God, I hate my life.

I admit it. Last month, I lightened my hair. I thought it would even out the uneven, outgrown highlights from last year and cover some of the gray that’s beginning to make the top of my head resemble the Sno-Caps Candy that I used to enjoy at the movies (ok, still enjoy. I have a box in my suitcase. I’ll never grow up).

The dye job was a disaster. The stuff smelled to high heaven, made my scalp itchy and it destroyed the bathroom rug. When I finally rinsed the chemicals out, I saw that my hair was a queer off-reddish amalgam that still featured a glorious mixture of sno-cap gray and overgrown high-lights. Pretty bad. I couldn’t go to India looking like this, and really, I don’t want to wind up hating my hair so much that I would wind up getting it all shaved off at the Balaji temple. I’ve seen the results. It’s not pretty. Check out Chris Rock’s movie, “Bad Hair” to find out where all that donated-to-God hair goes. Not pretty either.

At the same time, my little silly mind thought back to the times in India where I stood out like a strange swamp creature due to my lighter brown hair and the color of my skin. I decided to go back to the Walgreen’s and purchase Asian black hair color.

The morning I was to leave for India, I applied the stuff.  Once dried, only my sister noticed that my curls had radically changed in shade, so I thought I was home free, and very very smart for making the change.

Well, fine readers, I’m looking at myself right now as I type. There is an unfortunately-placed mirror over the desk at the hotel, and I can unequivocally report that I look like a can of paste has been deposited on my face because what seems like a bottle of shiny midnight-kohl shoe polish has taken over my locks. This was a really dumb move. Balaji is sounding better by the moment…  Must… have…. restraint.

Margherita Missoni is so iconic. I love her exotic influences and effortless daily wear. Plus that hair. – S x D

Yes I know we didn’t blog for sometime, but we have a good excuse, we have a new place now on the magical dork street and decorating it took a lot of our attention + been busy in rl too. I just wanted to share this outfit and tell you how within 10 min of buying the mini ears I tp’d randomly to a store and found the mini me t shirt which made me very excited

Yes, I am back. I know I have alot of pictures to post from my trip to Mexico. It was just absolutely, amazing, fantastic, love love love loved it! I’ve had friends who talked about all-inclusive resorts, and I’ve never really paid much attention. Probably because I didn’t think I’d ever go on one anyway. But it was just beautiful, even with the rain (which I’ll get into in another post).

It’s been crazy since I’ve been back. It wasn’t that hard getting the kids back on schedule, since Mexico was only 2 hours head of us. I went back to work last Thursday. I was in Mexico when this big building move happened. I went from being in an office space of 4 people, to a big office space of 30+ people. My coworkers unpacked all my stuff, so that was awesome. I’m social, so I love interacting with more people. It’s just that there’s less privacy, of course. So it’s been an adjustment.

Yesterday I took Myk for a haircut. She has always talked about getting her hair cut short. Plus in Mexico, her two girl cousins have short hair. So she was all stoked to get her hair cut. I took her to this Japanese hair salon. They’re amazing with layering. I picked a hair style in a mag that looked oh-so-cute. However, this was where I made a mistake. Her cousins’ short hair is long at the front, but short at the back. The one I got Myk is short at the front, but long at the back. So when you look at her straight on, you really sense the shock of the shortness of the hair.

Coming from the hairdresser, she claimed she loved it. It was later when she got home when I caught her crying. OMG…I felt so bad. I told her she could tell me the honest truth, and that I won’t be mad. And that if she doesn’t like it, it will grow. And that we’ll never cut it short again. So there my poor baby is, trying to hold back her tears, and gulping that she really does like it, but that she’s scared that her friends from OOSC will make fun of her. Now, there are girls at her OOSC with short hair like her’s, but I can completely understand how it can be tramatizing for someone who’s always had long hair to go from that…to this!

I feel so bad. I should of been careful not to have chosen such a drastic cut. This morning I curled her hair, so that it flips in a cute way. Otherwise, even I will admit, that without the curl…it’s very boyish. And then to make it more even more feminine, I put a hairband on her. I didn’t want her to get teased that she looks like a boy. That would devastate my poor, sensitive daughter. I’m just on pins and needles wondering how her day went. How her friends reacted to her hair. I had told her that if they were her real friends, then they would not tease her. But kids are cruel. I’ve been there. I’ve done it. I just pray she had a good experience. She was so nervous.

OMG…Myk will remember this moment forever. The day her mother traumatized her with a hair cut! I, myself, have my traumatizing hair moment with my mom. I think I was in grade 3 or 4. My mom was cutting my bangs. She kept saying it wasn’t straight, and would cut more. This went on till my bangs were half way up my forehead. Bowl cut extraordinare! Right before school picture day too! I cried like you wouldn’t believe, and from that day on, my mom never cut my hair herself again. I was treated to the hair salon with her.

I’m going to go to the store and pick up a bunch of cute hairbands. I feel sooooooooooooo bad.

No, I actually have greasy, oily, needs to be washed daily hair.

No, I actually just kept pouring baby powder all over my head.  My bathroom now resembles a George Jung/Lindsey Lohan/Scarface fantasy land.
