Nu tjatar jag på om Spotify igen, men här kommer mer belägg för det jag skrivit härom sistens: Spotifys usla betalning till artisterna. Nu sist med Lady Gaga, som fick 1150 kr för en miljon lyssningar. Naturligtvis är det helrätt utifrån Spotifys eget perspektiv att de betalar bättre än reklamradio, och förstås än Pirate bay. Men för musikerna en usel ersättning till de minskade musikköp som blir följden när folk betraktar denna fantastiska musikbank som sin källa till musik. Vår distributör Phonofile uttryckte redan i mars, det som nu uttrycks av Joacim Cans i Hammerfall: Man måste spelas en miljard gånger för att tjäna något vettigt. Jag har tidigare berättat om vårt mest populäera band Modesty, som fick fem kronor för 8000 lyssningar. Översatt i vanliga musikinköp så är det förstås sjukt dåligt.

Och här kommer förstås perspektivet in: Som alla audiofila reklamplatsförsäljare, så lever Spotify på att sälja reklam. Inte att spela musik. Musiken är bara en uppfångare för att ägarna ska kunna få sina inkomster. Därigenom så nyttjas musikerna som gör detta på ett ganska fult sätt, när de får så uselt betalt för att någon central uppspelare/utgivare ska casha in.

Jag blev intervjuad av en TV-kanal härom dagen, på grund av vår satsning på digialbum och sånglärkan. Och journalisten berättar förstås att hon gått över helt och hålelt till att lyssna på musik i Spotify. “Varför ska folk köpa musiken då?” undrade hon. En helt rimlig fråga. Så där har Spotify ett framtida problem: De ersätter musikinköp, men tror själva att de ersätter Pirate Bay.

Jag håller med krönikören i Expressen idag, om hånet som de där summorna utgör. Men visst finns framtiden någonstans i de här domänerna. En sak angående hans krönika: det är bara ett extremt litet antal skivbolag som är delägare i Spotify. Vi andra får inte alls de fördelarna som ägarskapet medför och kan inte tjäna sidosummor på detta.

Å andra sidan: I helgen hade jag faktiskt en rätt häftig musikupplevelse, tack vare Spotify. Jag och min tjej satt med datorn i soffan och turades om att spela låtar för varann. Ett åttiotalsminne här, en association där. Det var otroligt länge sen jag hade en så social musikuppelvelse, där man liksom berättade något för varann, med hjälp av musiken. Och skapade ett nytt minne med den. Nån gång i början på nittiotalet, så vitt jag minns. Tack vare Spotifys stora utbud och enkelhet, så hittar man faktiskt det man söker, och kan forska vidare, associera, hitta och trassla. Synd att Led Zeppelin inte är tillgängliga förstås. Men som lyssnare är jag förstås helimponerad av tjänsten. Så här blir man dubbel igen. Vilken usel musikutgivare, va?

Förresten, ni som gillar Spotify skarpt. Stör det inte att ljudkvalitén är så taskig? Jag har klurat länge på det där att man accepterar sämre ljud, bara tillgången är bra.  Min ljudteknikernerv får lite ont, men berätta gärna hur det funkar för er.

P.S igen: Måste tipsa om en riktigt bra artikel om villkoren för liveartister i senaste Stimnytt. Hur de minskade försäljningssiffrorna ökar behovet av liveframträdanden. Men att konkurrensen ökat, villkroen försämrats, scenerna själva har för höga hyror och intäkterna inte alls täcker upp för de minskade inkomsterna. En klar risk inför framtiden. Musiker som får gå med hatten, och ett sämre musikliv… Jag ska skriva något vettigare om det snart också.

They were talking about… nu-metal??? Yes, nu-metal. Frigging hell mallcore stuff like Slipknot and Marilyn Manson. There were even people who mentioned Linkin Park and Flyleaf.

Seriously! There was nothing on it but mallcore. -.-

Next one was a blog. He was talking about Slipknot and how much he likes them and on another blog was an article on Myanmar metal scene and the author was talking about Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium. Frigging Metalcore.

There were even some people who said,”Slipknot is Death Metal”. Ya, go die. It pisses me off when I hear people saying crap like that.

Mallcore, Nu-metal, Metalcore, BFMV, A7X, Marilyn Manson, BMTH, blah blah blah and it goes on and on and on in a never finishing mallcore whirlpool. This is what’s happening  in Myanmar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Metal albums aren’t that rare anymore. You can pretty much buy them here. (Last week I got Black Sabbath:The Dio Years and Megadeth’s Endgame.) Or you can download them via Mediafire or 4shared (which I usually do).

Still people are still drowning in the mallcore whirlpool… labeling themselves “metalheads” with Slipknot songs in their mp3 players.

ladies & gentlemen i give you:  METALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!

2 subgenres in particular, power metal & viking metal.  viking metal is self-explanatory, and power metal is basically the child of thrash and speed metal, infused with lyrical obsession of all things that got you beat up in high school:  dungeons & dragons, lord of the rings (before it was cool), fantasy novels, and the like, sung typically very highly (i.e. “ahhhhhhhhAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”).  power metal has been around for a while, but got a little bit of mainstream attention with the success (relatively speaking, they’re far from platinum!) of dragonforce, based highly on their being featured in guitar hero.  dragonforce get some flack from the hardcore fanbase of the scene, they’ve been called “nintendo metal” based on the video game sound of their guitars & keyboards, but i think they pwn.  then again, metal is not my passion, so perhaps that’s why  either way, here’s a hilarious yet awesome (3 words that go together very well when talking about power metal videos & lyrics) video, “operation ground & pound”.

onto the viking metal!  this subgenre has its roots in the same place as black metal, not only in that both come from the same regional area (scandinavia) but both are credited with having their beginning with the band bathory.  the band’s 1990 album hammerheart was the first viking metal record.  viking metal ranges in sound much more, as the common basis for the bands isn’t the sound or style but lyrical topics that focus on norse mythology & the viking age.  and now we get to celebrate with 5 videos that do thor proud.  beginning with, from the faroe islands…

Fugindo a uma das regras universais da música, o Hammerfall é uma das poucas bandas oriundas de Gotemburgo, na Suécia, que não toca Melodic Death Metal, mas sim um Heavy Metal com toques Power, dos mais clássicos, permeando em uma linha tênue entre os medalhões Judas Priest, Iron Maiden e Helloween. E desde sempre a banda deixou claro que a sua proposta era das mais simples e eficientes possível, o que quer dizer, nada de revoluções ou complicações, uma música simples e direta, até mesmo básica mas que agradasse os fãs dos anos 80, principalmente (até hoje me pergunto como seria o Hammerfall se Mikael Stanne e Niklas Sundin – do Dark Tranquillity – tivessem permanecido na banda, já que eram dois dos fundadores – pasmem).

Talvez entender que essa é a proposta seja crucial para entendermos porque se passam os anos e a banda mantém firme o pé neste estilo, ou seja, eles simplesmente não mudam porque NÃO QUEREM mudar, e, invariavelmente as músicas acabarão por soarem repetidas, fato que muita gente vêm reclamando desde “Chapter V – Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken”, o que deve ter diminuído um pouco a popularidade e o impacto que ela causou até “Crimson Thunder”, provavelmente o melhor trabalho dos suecos até hoje.

“No Sacrifice, No Victory” é o sétimo trabalho da banda e o primeiro com o novo guitarrista Pontus Norgren, sendo que a única diferença aparente que este parece ter trazido foram as guitarras afinadas mas pesadas ainda (provavelmente estão a um tom abaixo), o que não faz tanta diferença assim, já que o som do Hammerfall não é necessariamente pesado, vamos e venhamos.

O disco abre com “Any Means Necessary”, uma música que de tão épica acaba soando engraçada (aqueles backing vocals Conanianos – caras bombados cantando grosso – não soam menos que hilários), mas tem uma melodia bem legal, ainda que extremamente básica, como todas as outras, ou seja, introdução-verso-refrão-verso-refrão-solo-refrão-fim. “Life Is Now” é uma típica faixa 2 de qualquer álbum de Power Metal: mais cadenciada, um refrão não tão empolgante, mas com um verso e bridges muito bem sacados (“Never give up, never give in”… alguém lembra de um certo Masterplan?), que acabam salvando a música, enquanto “Punish and Enslave” traz um riff tipicamente Judas Priest e os primeiros “Oooohhh”’s do álbum e “Legion” (nome batido, letra batida, musica batida) só se salva pelas levadas de guitarra, um toque mais neoclássico e o refrão empolgante, como todos deveriam ser. “Between Two Worlds” é uma balada com exatamente as mesmas notas de “Dreams Come True”, e a melodia é tão igual que chega a ser irritante (nem o órgão a lá Mr Crowley no início deu uma disfarçada). “Something For The Ages” é a única contribuição de Pontus Norgren nas composições do álbum e é uma instrumental até que legal, mas nada além dos padrões de “Transylvania”, do Iron Maiden, por exemplo, inclusive, a estrutura da música é bem parecida (sem contar que a música anterior se chama “Hallowed Be My Name”). Em seguida, a faixa-título tem um riff que parece uma mistura de Helloween fase Kiske com um bom Accept e novamente os vocais Conanianos, porém, desta vez, o contraponto com a voz de Joacim Cans ficaram muito bem elaboradas, sendo esta a mais diversificada do álbum e, o maior destaque, tanto pelas melodias quanto pelo instrumental (a letra é um quesito desconsiderável se tratando de Hammerfall). “Bring The Hammer Down” é mais uma da saga das músicas com “Hammer” no nome, com uma levada bem cadenciada (a mais quebrada do disco), o melhor solo e uma melodia vocal bem agradável, até mesmo com o refrão cantado apenas pelo exército sumeriano. O disco fecha teoricamente com “One Of A Kind”, a música épica e com contribuição de Jesper Strömblad, atualmente no In Flames/Clínica de reabilitação, e com certeza é a mais notável ao lado de “No Sacrifice, No Victory”, com Joacim Cans cantando com muito mais vontade e um refrão mezzo-Rhapsody, tendo um interlúdio acústico no meio bem interessante (inesperado, ainda mais se tratando de Hammerfall), que cai direto em um solo bem sacado de Norgren. De bônus, ainda tem “My Sharona”, um cover do (pasmem) The Knack, um hit power pop lá do final da década de 70, com uma levada bem Disco Music, totalmente lapidada para os moldes Heavy Metal, gerando uma música das mais legais, ótima para deixar rolando em uma festa, junto com “Maniac”, coverizado pelo Firewind ou “Surfin’ Usa”, do Blind Guardian (essas covers aliás, sempre ficam fantásticas).

Bom, em resumo, é mais um álbum do Hammerfall, e isso diz tudo. Se você gosta do som deles, é diversão garantida (músicas para serem gritadas a pleno pulmões), agora, se você é um daqueles que acho que a música tem que quebrar barreiras e sair do óbvio, nesse caso, passe longe. Bem longe…
