As you might know I live in Belgium, a small country in the centre of Western Europe. For artists in the music industry this means you’ll probably won’t make it as easily as bands from bigger countries. But still, we have some great bands in Belgium altough not many of them are known outside of Belgium. That’s why Stubru, a belgian radio channel, presented the 50 best songs (voted by the public) made in Belgium in the last 10 years. And this is the top 11 from their Bel 2000:

Why not a top 10 but a top 11 on my blog? Because Hammerhead is my personal  favorite Belgian song of the last 10 years (or at least I strongly believe so). You can see the whole list here. An near-hysterical reaction to a couple of sharks having a feed off Bondi Beach last weekend. The life savers took the squid ashore and buried it – instead of taking it further out to sea where it might do a better job of feeding something.

“The sharks are close to shore because the clear water is attracting more fish” said that National Parks spokesman.

It’s all great for newspaper sales. The sharks are back! Yes and they’re eating people this time.

So much for the endangered species hysteria coming from well-meaning but ill-informed marine researchers. The media swallow that bait every time.

The big problem, more and more new laws giving more and more power to those zealous fisheries inspectors.

They’ll fine a kid for having an undersized bream while a prawn trawler might destroy a tonne of undersized fish on any day of work. Double standards.

Meanwhile sightings of large white pointers off beaches are occurring daily off Adelaide (SA) and Perth (WA).

Some of this shark’s pups survived and were filmed in the process of escapingThe underwater shark birthing sequence was the finale in Aquarius – People of the Sea (later re-named adding the extra words and Wildlife.

Jenny Perry (left) was married to journalist Mike Perry who had suggested the expedition to Point Lookout, arranging a dive boat for the purpose. Merle Hawkins (right) inspired the editing of Aquarius with endless cups of coffee and positive thoughts.

A year later it was being shown at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles, plus other locations.

I ended the live commentary featuring the hammerhead with words suggesting that a chemical shark repellent might one day be synthesized by replicating the aroma of a dead shark.

Adding that cures for many human ailments would, (in my then opinion), be made from undersea plants and animals!

The chemical repellent prophecy is a bit slow happening – and might not be too effective on a creature moving in fast for a sample bite. As for cures from the sea plants….?

I think there is plenty happening in that department. Rain forest plants too.

I also use my Carr Hammerhead, so I figured I’d do a quick review of this beast of an amp for ya. I am using my Telecaster with sparkly flame paint job, and the pickups are Fralin Blues specials…

El pasado viernes 25, en la sála Multibox de la sede de EITB en Bilbao, más de 400 personas participaron en el visionado de los 10 cortos finalistas de la 12 edición del Manhattan Short Film Festival, o eso me han contado, porque a mi me dejan este rincón en la oficina, pero luego no me llevan a los eventos que organizan y estoy de lo más enfadado. Además resulta que en otras 172 ciudades repartidas por los cinco continentes miles de personas hicieron lo mismo (votar por su corto favorito) esa misma semana y yo me lo he perdido…

De la suma de todos los votos emitidos en el mundo mundial ha salido elegido vencedor el corto francés “Skhizen”, que resulta que también es el que ganó el viernes en Bilbao. Así que en la oficina están de lo más emocionados porque durante los tres años en los que Bilbao ha sido sede del Manhattan Short siempre ha votado por el corto que después ha ganado a nivel mundial. ¡Los tres años!. Y parece ser que en Barcelona también han tenido buen ojo y votaron por el corto francés. Claro que en Madrid, Salamanca y Vícar no anduvieron desencaminados, y es que allí ganó “Miente”, de la salmantina Isabel De Ocampo, que se ha llevado el premio al mejor montaje. El palmarés de esta edición se completa con el premio para el mejor corto de ficción para Sam Donovan por “Hammerhead” y el premio al mejor corto documental para “Mozambique” de Alcides Soares. Yo espero que algún día me dejen ver los cortos y ya os contaré cual es el que más me gusta… Pero eso si: el año que viene me voy a verlo en vivo y en directo. Si no es en Bilbao, en cualquier otro sitio, que estos ya están trabajando para ampliar el número de ciudades que van a participar el año que viene, y ahí andan buscando y contactando, a ver quien se apunta.

Lo que si que parece ser que han gustado, y que la gente quiere más, son las camisetas. Las 500 que se hicieron (con el patrocinio del Ayuntamiento de Bilbao, Eitb, Skunk Funk y del Cineclub Fas) volaron el viernes en la sede de EITB. Y es que tras disfrutar con la proyección de los 10 cortos finalistas, tras elegir cuidadosamente el mejor corto y votar, los asistentes al evento se encontraron con un delicioso cocktail Manhattan y un dulce catering a base de gominolas (“los chuches” que diría alguno) y… ¡con una camiseta de regalo!. Yo ya las he visto, pero no porque me llevaran con ellos a EITB (no sé si ya había comentado que no me llevan a los eventos), sino porque la gente se la pone para andar por ahí y ¡vaya guapos que están!. Así que ha habido quien ha llamado pidiendo camisetas (y no, aquí no tenemos ni una), quien las anda buscando por la web, quien… Aquí en la oficina no entienden mucho el revuelo (es más, a la mayoría les gusta más la que hicieron el año pasado) pero me han dicho que cuelgue en el blog una imagen, y eso hago, porque yo soy un perro de lo más formal y obediente… al que no llevan por ahí.

I decided to start posting these mixes on 9/14/09 while I was listening to various songs on Pandora and Youtube. In the middle of Cesar Comanche’s “Get Ready”, I felt like turning on the turntables, hitting record, and saving whatever songs happened to randomly find their way into my mix within the next hour.

Stop! Hammertime

Wenn ihr meine Reviews zu den aktuellen Daredevil Ausgaben verfolgt habt, wisst ihr ja, dass mir bei den meisten der Hefte das gewisse Etwas gefehlt hat. Wie schon bei X-Factor hat man (genauer gesagt Schninkel aus dem Marvel FanForum) mir aber auch hier empfohlen mich von Beginn an einzulesen und mir den Kauf dieses Trades nahe gelegt. “The Devil in and out” umfasst den Arc „The Devil in Cell Block D“ (82-87) und markieren gleichezitig auch die Daredevil Übernahme durch das neue Team Brubaker/Lark.

Matt Murdock sitzt hier auf Rykers Island im Knast und wird verdächtigt Daredevil zu sein. Auf Grund seiner Blindheit sitzt er noch im geschützten Bereich, doch einige Leute drängen bereits darauf ihn im offenen Vollzug verlegen zu lassen wo natürlich Schurken wie Owl, Hammerhead etc. leichten Zugriff auf ihn hätten.

Ich kann hier nicht viel vom Inhalt schreiben ohne dem potentiellen Leser die Spannung zu nehmen, aber die Story ist wirklich ne Wucht!

Korrupte Bullen, schockierende und dramatische Wendungen und eine wahre Star-Riege an Superhelden und Schurken gibt es hier zu bestaunen. Daredevil, Owl, Hammerhead, Kingpin, Bullseye, Punisher, Iron Fist, JJJ, Black Tarantula, Ben Urich, Dakota North und Foggy… Alle geben sich ein Stell dich ein im Rykers Hochsicherheitsknast.

Ed Brubaker führt hier wirklich fort was Bendis begonnen hat und zusammen mit Michael Lark liefert er Szenen die für die Ewigkeit geschaffen sind. Bullseyes Ankunft im Knast bekommt sicherlich eine Top-Reihung in meiner All-Time-Fav Liste.

Brubaker stößt Matt hier wirklich immer knapper an seine Grenzen und man bekommt einen Daredevil zu sehen der es leid ist immer nur herumgeschubst zu werden.

Michael Larks Zeichnungen sind natürlich ein Hit. Auch hier will ich mal wieder die fantastischen Regen-Szenen hervorheben. Regen, Schnee… Der Typ hat das einfach drauf!

(Lark verrät in einem Interview im Bonus-Material dieses Trades übrigens, dass er hierfür einen eigenen PhotoShop Background hat mit dem er die Fallrichtung des Regens leichter ändern kann. Ob das wahr ist?)

Ich sollte hie dazu sagen dass der Trade zwar den Cell Block D Arc abschließt jedoch noch in einem weiteren Teil mündet. Mann kann ihn sich zwar ohne Bedenken alleine kaufen und lesen, doch wer hinter all dem steckt erfährt man eben nur wenn man sich auch die Vol.2 besorgt. Diesen Trade werde ich mir aber auf jeden Fall auch noch holen, denn was Brubaker und Lark hier vollbracht haben ist wirklich verdammt großes Kino.

Jeder der auf HardBoiled-Crime steht MUSS sich diesen Trade einfach besorgen!

Hätte wirklich nicht gedacht dass mir ein Post Bendis/Maleev Daredevil wirklich noch so gut gefällt. Tja, Empfehlungen lohnen sich doch noch!

Hello family (visiting here right now and in Texas)!

There are some pictures I thought I would share some of the pictures I have taken!

Before I start, I just thought I would tell yall about the new button over there on the right hand side under “buy my photos.” I just thought one day that I would put my photos on this site that I have heard of. They pick the prices for you, and most of my photos were too small to be anything except for a greeting card (and some not even that so I couldn’t add them), but who knows who will find them.  I still need to add more.

And, I also have a new button on the right that you can subscribe to the blog by getting an e-mail when it is updated.  SO, I don’t have to e-mail you and you don’t have to keep checking even when I don’t update. =)

Next:

On Sunday, we went to the beach in Vero to let the kids go boogieboarding. It was a pretty day, but the seaweed had washed up to shore and was really gross. SO, when the kids were going out there, they were really grossed out! =) Here are LOTS of pictures for yall! If you want to download them (Uncle Marcus/Aunt Stella), you just right click them and click “Save image as.” Well, here you go! (Again, there is alot!):

The kids when they first went out there. They were so excited. When Noah saw the water, he said, “It is sooo pretty!” It was cute!

They got those boogie boards and ran right back out! They were hardly out of the water!

Seawood monster! He kept coming out of the water with seaweed all over his face and hair. =)

Finally all on a wave! (Love Ashlyn’s expression…)

Nana and Grandad came too to enjoy the ocean!

Then they found that the seaweed doesn’t have to be their enemy…

…and that was it! =)

Then last night we all had hamburgers at Nana and Grandad’s house. Today, while dad and Uncle Marcus went to the west coast fishing for tarpon, all of us (besides Nana and Grandad) went to Superplay down the street to go bowling. It was a lot of fun. Don’t ask who won… Okay, fine! It was me! =) hehe. Afterwards, the kids played a game of Laser Tag and then we went to Panera Bread to eat a yummy healthy meal! My favorite!!!

If y’all want to find out what happened with the fishing experience, well, they didn’t “catch” anything, per se, but dad almost caught a 150 pound tarpon but it broke off after a big fight… ALSO, a 15 foot hammerhead shark circled their boat! CREEPY! Those are the coolest sharks though!

Captain Danny takes the boys out for some fun. Dusty Bottoms captures some fun surfing behind the Anyar docked out of Port Canaveral, Florida. GP shows us some fun surfing on a waist high boat wake.

While we visited family in Georgia, we snuck down to the Georgia Aquarium for a visit. Although it is a VERY nice aquarium the crowds inside were crazy. And alot of the peoiple all decided to camp out in front of every window not wanting to move so other people could see the exhibits. Needless to say they ALL caught BOWS and were moved….

Hmmm where are some pieces of toast,cheese, and mayo when you need um!

You call yourself a fisherman?

Here’s a brief summary of the article (in my own, very biased words): Fisherman goes out to sea. Fisherman catches a beautiful predator. Fisherman kills beautiful predator. Fisherman gets another notch in his belt  via world record submission/death of an innocent predator. Fisherman FAILS in everyone’s but his own eyes.

Now let’s be realistic, my desire to vent is over and I’m prepared to be fair. Are Hammerhead Sharks aggressive? Yes they are.

That’s all I have for now. I’m having writer’s block and will add more as soon as it goes away. There’s so much to say about this atrocious act and I can’t seem to put it into words.
