Jag måste ju bara visa vår lejonhamster eller dvärghamsterapan som jag vanligen kallar henne. Hon klättrar som en apa i sin bur. Hon har pulat in nästan en hel morot i sina kindpåsar så hon såg ut som en mini-lejonhanne.

Dødsårsaken er uklar, men den offisielle forklaringen er alderdom. Det er i alle fall ingen ting som tyder på at noe kriminelt har skjedd. Han trakk sine siste sukk med sine nærmeste rundt seg. Det siste han kjente var kjærlige fingre som strøk ham over ryggen. Etterpå dekket vi ham med vatt, for det var slik han likte best å sove.

Nå ligger han på lit de parade i sengen sin i gangen utenfor vaskerommet, der han har bodd de siste årene av sitt liv. Begravelsen vil finne sted på fredag, med inviterte gjester. Til minnemarkeringen vil det serveres saft og kjeks.

Vi vet ikke helt hvor gammel Edvard Grieg ble, han var nok allerede fullvoksen da vi fikk ham. Han har bodd to år med oss, så mye skulle tilsi at han ble nærmere 100 år. Det er nok få gnagere som har fått en så god avslutning på livet og en så staselig begravelse som det tegner til å bli. Hans minne vil nok leve nærmest evig – i alle fall regnet i hamster-år…

After being poorly (I feel a lot better more of the time now) I have had the urge to clean the house meticulously and start creating decorations and presents for Christmas. I am rather excited about Christmas this year; I am never really over-the-top excited about it, but this Christmas will be the first in our new house! I put the tree up last night… a lot of people have said that it is far too early, but my family is coming to celebrate Christmas a week early, so why cant I put the tree up a week early!? It is just inspiration standing in the corner now, I cant wait to start putting presents under it.

Yesterday Ryan came home with a new frying pan, which was on sale in Debenhams:

So this led me on to looking at all the kitchenware that Debenhams sell… There are quite a few things that I love, which I am sure you can get elsewhere too, just they are all bundled together in one shop! Here are my selections:

1. Dark grey Roast ‘n Rack by Maxim – I love making roast dinners so much, but I still dont really have the roasting trays for all the ingredients.

2. Cream plate with glass dome lid – I just love the aesthetic of having this in the kitchen with cakes under it!

3. Teal rectangular stoneware dish by Le Creuset – maybe for pasta bakes

4. Cream stove kettle by Prestige – I adore the lines and the shapes that make up these retro-style kettles. I even love the fact you have to put it on the stove, so amazing! There are some of the same/similar style that are electric, but its not really the same thing is it. We also need an upgrade from the £6 kettle I bought a few years ago from Woolworths haha!

5. Azure cast iron casserole dish By Le Creuset – for casseroles of course. Winter is drawing in and I am always a sucker for homemade comfort food. For some reason all the Le Creuset items I have picked here bar one are in blue; I actually like all and any of the colours in the range that they make.

6. Ken Hom 5 piece Wok set by Tao – because I dont have a wok, and I really feel like trying to make stir fry and chinese style chicken.

7. Teal cast iron 26cm square grillit by Le Creuset – because it would make amazing steaks, and you can pour out the juices from the pan afterwards… mmmmm!

8. Spring form cake pan by Kitchen Craft – because I have none!

9. Volcanic regular cast iron grill by Le Creuset – I believe you can either put this in the oven, or as a hot plate on the stove… I love that idea.

10. 5 piece stainless steel set by Prestige – because all of my pans are leaving black flakes in my pasta yuk! Not necessarily this set, but something similar that wont ruin my food.

11. Blue Icona 4 slice toaster by De Longhi – so yummy looking! And blue again… why!?? We need an upgrade from the £5 toaster from Woolworths I bought 3 years ago…

12. 14cm microwave saucepan – when I saw this I thought of Ryan. He always eats beans, and always cooks them in Tupperware pots without handles or spouts, and it looks like a very awkward process to try not to burn your fingers, so this could be ideal!

13. Assam teapot by Bodum – I am never any good at judging how long to leave teabags to steep in the water before pouring, and it either comes out too weak or too strong. So… if I can see what is going on inside the pot I will be ok! It also has a plunger to stop the process when it is right for you, and you can use teabags or leaves and it works!

14. Cream food mixer by KitchenAid – how gorgeous is this machine! We have one in the kitchen at the bar that I work at, I might see if they will sell it to me as it is not really in use.

I am also in the process of designing some quilted Christmas stockings for myself and Ryan, to hang on the wall (where the mantel should be if the house still had one), some knitted presents for my grandparents, maybe some other presents too, and some decorations for the house! I am thinking garlands, and wreaths, and paper chains of course.

Ryan is dying my hair for me tonight, so if I think I look semi-unpoorly afterwards I shall take a photo and paste it to the end of this blog.

P.S I am now down to 4 hamsters… It seems to be a sad time in Hamsterville. I have not changed anything about their living conditions… maybe it is just that time of year Rest in peace crazy dude who bit me really hard…

I was on Twitter a few days ago tweeting about how I’m staying up waaay too late and then sleeping in because of it. How I want to be normal. How I’m not a hamster. Then I remembered how a few months ago when I was trying to lose weight, I found some tips through my two hamsters, Priscilla and Mitzi. With my “Think Hamster” plan, I was able to lose about 20lbs. It may sound silly getting weight loss ideas from short-lived, nocturnal rodents, but  if you look into them, they know what they’re doing… Even though both of mine are very, shall we say, “fluffy.”

Think Hamster—Lose Weight

• If your out eating and feel full, don’t feel pressured to finish your meal. Stuff it in a pouch and take it with you. You might want to eat it later. This way you won’t feel bloated.

• After eating a meal, go for a walk or quick jog to get everything going and burn off a few calories.

• Whenever you wake up, take time to stretch. It feels great and is good for your muscles.

• Don’t be afraid to come up with new exercises. If you’re feeling crazy one day, do some upside-down air running or anything else you can think of.

• Drink plenty of water, but not all at once. Don’t make yourself feel overly full from it, but get enough to quench your thirst.

• Eat lots of veggies! Hamsters do eat the occasional meat (Priscilla enjoys a bit of lean chicken now and then), but they know that fruits and veggies make the world go ’round… or at least taste better. There’s nothing finer to my girls than sinking their teeth into a fresh garden pea or diving into a bowl of salad.

• Snack healthy, like popcorn. Of course my hamsters cannot have butter or salt, so plain popcorn is best for them. For us humans, if you can’t stand plain popcorn, there are plenty of other ways you can dress it with flavor and still keep it pretty healthy.

• Cheese is your friend! I’m not talking a gallon bucket of nacho cheese, although that sounds very delish, huh? Some cheese every now and then gives us calcium we need to stay healthy and strong. You can over do it, but having a slice on a sandwich, sprinkled on a salad, or just sitting down with some slices while you watch TV can be good for you.

• Eat fruity yogurt, and you’re killing two birds with one stone. Again, like the cheese, it gives you all those dairy needs.

• Take long, relaxing baths. Don’t be like Priscilla and be and obsessive bather where you start gnawing your leg off in the process, but taking baths can help calm you. Anyone knows, especially women, that being stressed out causes you to pack on and hold all that unwanted weight. So take a bath, fluff yourself up all nice, and feel good about yourself.

• Think of chores as excercise. My hamsters are constantly rearranging their homes or digging new tunnels. That’s a lot of work. But in that work, you’re using a lot of muscles that you normally wouldn’t, and doing that helps you burn those calories. Go change your living room around. If someone offers to help you move the couch, yell, “Hey! Go lose your own weight!” Not really. You can’t lose weight laying in the hospital with a broken back.

 • Finally, don’t forget that you burn calories in your sleep also. You may even sleepwalk or be violent in your dreaming. My dog-niece, Sam, runs marathons all night long. Don’t sit too close to her or you’ll get kicked for sure. Sometimes she gets pretty vocal about it and wakes herself up barking. Either way, you’ll also be able to kick the stress throughout the day and be in a better mood when you wake up with the right amount of sleep. Perfect for shedding those pounds.

See? Hamsters know what they’re doing! Just follow them or other animals with good habits and you’ll be slipping into your old clothes in no time. Notice how I didn’t use my guinea pigs as examples? They do what gets us to this in the first place. Eat too much, then sit and do nothing the rest of the day. They are SO fat. I hope they’re just bulking up for winter. They’re eating so much right now that I may have to make them start paying for their own food! How do you tell the pigs to be like the hamsters?

Irgendwie laufen wir alle ein bisschen im Hamsterrad. Immer laufen. Immer mit dabei sein. Niemals zurückschaun. Auf der Stelle laufen. Ohne Verschnaufen. Und weil viele Menschen gern in diesem Hamsterrad laufen, haben zwei findige Franzosen in Nantes jetzt eine “Hamster Villa” eröffnet. Ein Hotel mit Riesen-Hamsterrad in jedem Zimmer, viel Heu zum Schlafen, Körner zum Essen und einen Brunnen zum Trinken. Kein Schmäh. Das Hotel gibt es wirklich. Überleg mir nur grad ob es da auch Doppel-Zimmer gibt, in denen zwei Hamsterräder stehen. Da könnt man dann wie im wirklichen Leben miteinander auf der Stelle treten. Volia.

Just some updates:

My ear over the weekend does not feel stuffed, so I’m hoping it’s cleared up. To make sure though I’m going to leave it for a few days before I put my right hearing aid back in.

This morning I went out to buy the necessary things for when I buy my Syrian Hamster. The cage was set up by dinner ready, and I went to my local pet shop in the afternoon, for my hamster. I decided I was having a female by then. (Could not make my mind up this morning). I will show a picture of her soon here on my blog. I’ve called her Bubbles.

I picked up my parcel at the Post Office this morning, and I was sooo excited when I knew where it was from! My t-shirt and tank top from Speak Up Librarian Shop has arrived. Yipee! I will post photos here as promised later, modelling them.

Had an unexpected weekend away, but it was ok as I got to see the area Richard originally came from. His parents have finally been offered a bungalow a couple of weeks ago, and they needed help moving. So Richard and his brother helped out their Dad with this move while I kept his Mum company at their bungalow they’ve moved too, which was very nice and cosy to their old place.

When they did a few travels back and forth from old place to new bringing their packed things, I managed to go down later to see where they used to live, and got to see a bit of Brigg. A lovely place!

Me and Richard stayed overnight at his brother’s place, as there was more work to do the next day. Again I stayed at the bungalow with his Mum, while they got more stuff from their old place. I went out to their local shops at dinner to see a bit of where they are living now. Lovely quiet area.

Later in the afternoon we made our way back home, with a detour of Kirton in Lindsey, where Richard first had a flat of his own.

And after my weekend I had enjoyed here, although I did not get to see much of Richard with him helping with the move (although he said he will make it up to me), I’ve decided I’m going to buy a Syrian Hamster, also known as the Golden Hamster. Although I’ve not said anything to Richard until at the weekend, I have been thinking about owning another pet, a hamster, the last 2 weeks. And although I was fascinated with his brothers fish tank, Like I said to Richard I want to be able to touch a pet again of a fury kind. And if I’m going to have a pet than a hamster would be suitable. He’s tried to put me off in the past, as he wanted for me to grieve for Lady which I have, but not completely stop me from having a pet as I first thought. He said if I really wanted one, after seeing how I am and feel about another pet, than get one. So one day this week I will. I will post a picture on here when I can, and when its’ settled in its new home.

No, that’s not a new casual online browser mmo, it’s a hotel in Nantes, France where people can stay in a human-sized hamster habitat called the Hamster Villa.

For €99 (roughly $150) guests get a hamster mask, a giant exercise wheel, food pellets, and a water dispenser fountain. The room even contains a scaffolding-like habitrail for the more athletically inclined guests. Traditional bed and toilet accommodations are provided, but hay stack bedding is preferred.

The hotel owners hope to inspire imagination in their guests, but without a giant hamster ball included for exploring the grounds, I’m going to pass on it.

And Joda goes with picture Nr. 1 where he is cleaning out his chops (has packed them with a self baked hamster cookie )

I’m so excited if they will make the race and get a place in the calendar…

Definately I will tell, if they do or don’t…
