Gibt es da nicht nur Sandpisten oder Runways? Und dann: Street Credibility als bedeutende Eigenschaft um (weiße, mittelständische) Kinder zu beeindrucken? Teenager, ja. Aber “children”? Hm. Vielleicht sollte man lieber von “space cred” schreiben, immerhin ist es das, was Han Solo aus- und zum Helden der Kids macht: dass er durch den Weltraum jettet und dabei keiner extraterrestrischen Gefahr ausweicht. Aber, stimmt: “Space cred” klingt auch ziemlich idiotisch.

El enorme y peludo tibocha era originario del planeta Kashyyyk. Luchó en las Guerras Clon junto con el Maestro Jedi Yoda y el dirigente militar Tarfful. Esa es la teoría, pero, la práctica es que es uno de los grandes desconocidos de la saga Star Wars junto a otros muchos.

Si te paras a pensar, hay muchas cosas que si les das más importancia de la que le dan en la saga, te darás cuenta que chewbacca no es solo el oso de peluche gigante amigo de Han Solo. A ver recapitulemos, si el halcón milenario funciona es gracias chewbacca, porque no será por Han, que está más pendiente de discutir y mirarle el culo a Leia. Y aún así con todas las trabas que su comunicación a base de gruñidos proporciona, el gran chewi se apaña para arreglar todos los estropicios que se generan por culpa de que ningún personaje sepa qué coño les dice. Un ejemplo es cuando la velocidad de la luz del halcón milenario no funciona y tienen que repararla, Chewi no hace más que gruñir y gruñir y Han hablando solo y complicándose la vida. Cuando realmente lo único que quiere Chewi es una llave inglesa para aporrear la consola. Y al final tiene que usar el puño peludo porque Han no hace más que inventarse la traducción de sus gruñidos.

Seamos sinceros, aquí Lucas se saca de la manga que por cojones, a Chewi se le entiende. Y otro caso parecido es R2D2 (arturito para nuestros vecinos de habla hispana). Mira, al pequeño R2 aún, porque puedes interpretar que es Morse o algo derivado. Pero sinceramente. El único que debería ser capaz de entenderlos es el gran C3PO (citripio para los amigos del otro lado del charco). C3PO sí que es un personaje poco valorado. Siempre el héroe es R2D2. Pero a ver, señores, a C3PO si se le hiciera más caso en la saga no tendrían ni la mitad de problemas que tienen. Además el tío ha sobrevivido a todo junto a R2D2, lo han desmontado y desmembrado, pringado de toda clase de sustancias, ha estado metido en guerras, en diplomacia y en mil historias. Y no solo eso C3PO aporta toques de humor satírico en casi todas sus frases. De todos los grandes desconocidos de la saga C3PO y Chewi serían los menos perjudicados.

A parte de Chewi y C3PO, que es de todos los grandes pilotos del episodio IV, que mueren para que Luke meta el proyectil en el agujerito. Ese gordito que aparece momentáneamente ¿nombre en clave porky? Ahora mismo no lo recuerdo. O el compañero de Lando en el Halcón en el episodio VI mientras Han baila con los pequeños Ewoks, si ese de los ojos saltones y también ininteligible al estilo Chewi. Y los músicos de la taberna, el único homenaje que tienen estos pobres músicos es la melodía polifónica de su tema principal. Y la esclava de Jabba de Hutt previa a Leia, 30 segundos y al estómago del bicho. Porque toda esta serie de personajes y muchísimos más son los grandes olvidados de esta gran saga. Soy un fan incondicional de Star Wars, de la primera trilogía. Y creo que se les debería hacer un homenaje a todos esos personajes olvidados, que no tienen muñecos ni merchandising. Porque a ver, si Jar Jar tiene muñeco, porque ellos no. Porque seamos sinceros, el personaje más odiado de star wars casi con toda seguridad sea Jar Jar.

Así que desde aquí pongo mi granito de arena para homenajear a todos esos personajes que son los grandes olvidados y que se ven ensombrecidos por los personajes principales.

This is an article I found on the Internet… I know how wild “the Internet” it’s an old one but funny enough. Featured on Cracked.com Someone (Steve Kiley) out there in the far off time of 2005 (December 15th) decided he would write an homoerotic fantasy of the supposed homosexual exploits of C-3PO from a first person point of view. Yet another chapter in the Gay Golden Robot theory out there… also a Freudian field day with the author. It was an entertaining read though so without further ado; I present to you:

C3PO Comes Clean

I must say that the impending destruction of the Death Star is a bit troubling. Sure, from the outside it is an architectural monstrosity, but the interior is quite elegantly designed. The window treatments in the Vader suite are simply breathtaking!

I’m such a bitch, I can’t believe I told you I’ve been to the Vader suite! OK, well if you must know, before all this war craziness started again, Lord Vader and I were almost an item. It was back when the Dark Side was at its peak and he held a little cocktail party. Everybody was there: Boba Fett, Jabba the Hutt, Ula the Dancing Girl-you name ‘em!

After a couple of white wine spritzers, Vader was all over me. A bit of a lightweight with the booze, between you and I. The things he said to me that night…

“C-3PO, I hear that gold is a very pliable metal.”

“You, me, a bottle of Dom and lot of WD-40. We’ll put on a little Neal Diamond and I’ll let you wear my cape.”

“I hope one of the six million languages you speak is a naughty one.”

All with that heavy breathing. I nearly blew a fuse.

Our little affair never happened. Vader switched to Scotch and started his ventriloquist choking act. He killed eight storm troopers that night. Such a diva.

The next few weeks he acted all butch so that everyone would forget what a slut he was at the party. Everywhere I went, he mocked the way I walked. Every time I entered a room, he would announce the presence of the “resident golden queer.”

When the chance came to hitch a ride off that negativity train with the adorable Leia, I jumped on it. Leia is a good person. That being said, her choice of wardrobe and hairstyle is fucking ridiculous.

The ride off of the ship was a pleasant one, as the lovely R2D2 was at my side. For all of his annoying ‘bleeps’ and ‘bloops’ and his insistence that robots with wheels have no sexual preference, that little guy is the perfect height for a vigorous face fucking!

Little did I know, my travels would soon connect me with the gorgeous Luke Skywalker. I think I am in love. I have had a tough time letting my guard down after the Vader fiasco. The good news with Luke is that judging from his attire, feathered hair and delicate features, he’ got to be out of the closet.

Many of the fellas coo over that bad boy Hans Solo and say he is queer as a three-dollar galactic credit, but I fear he’ just along for the ride. I see the way he looks at Leia. Plus, his dog Chewbacca is entirely too big for him to be gay.

The gang is sad about the demise of Obi-Wan. Not me. That British queen made more passes at me than Elizabeth II around the moors. I needed a few days and a good welder after one weekend on the same ship with him.

The thing about Jedis is that they’ll fuck anything. And let’ face facts, a Jedi can claim he’ straight, or has sworn an oath to this or that, but it’ all a front. There was that scandal with the
little boys all those years back-some say that is why young Anakin turned into such a bitch in his teens. God only knows what Obi Wan did to him on all those long journeys to the Degoba System.

Let’ just say I’ve been servant to some of the greatest Jedis and there’ a reason why I walk so
funny today.

Tomorrow is the big day. Luke and the gang will fly off to destroy the evil, but smartly decorated Death Star. I wish them well. Their plan looks so complicated. They need to penetrate the exterior of the well-mounded evil orb. Then they have to forge ahead until the see the gaping hole. One good shot right up the hole and into a long canal will make that ship explode with delight”¦ er, I mean blow it to bits.

I just know that Young Skywalker can hit that money shot.

John Crichton: “I can’t be your kind of hero.”

Crichton Snr.:  “No, you can’t.  But each man gets to be his own kind of hero.”

It is this exchange in the first episode that could be used to describe the difference between these two science fiction TV series.  That difference is down to the difference between the main characters.  They are their own kind of hero, though truly, only one of them is heroic.

Mal Reynolds captains the Serenity in “Firefly”. He is a part time smuggler whose character seems lifted completely from Han Solo.

John Crichton is an American astronaut who enters a different part of space through a wormhole.  He lands close to the Moya and joins its crew of outsiders.

As I’ve hinted, I believe the main difference between the two is the character of the hero of each story.  I use the term hero for “main character” in this case.  The problem, of course, is that only one is heroic.

Reynolds is the very definition of a self-centred person.  His actions and words demonstrate this throughout.  His first concern in every situation is himself.  There are certainly numerous times that he does the right thing, but each occurrence simply coincides with Reynolds looking out for number one.  If your well-being helps him, then he’s your hero.  If not, sorry.

Crichton arrives in a generally immoral environment.  He refuses to let it compromise his morals.  He knows what’s right and he risks his safety and standing to defend it.  He abhors random violence.  He rejects bigotry.  If you need someone to help you, this is your guy.

I stopped watching Firefly after four or five episodes because its hero had nothing to offer me.  I love Han Solo as much as the next guy, but Solo changed in his hero’s journey.  He learned to care for others and rely on others.  I’m watching Farscape on Netflix and I’m in for the long haul.  Every episode has a lesson, not just snark.

Yesterday’s post left me in a bit of a shame spiral, but not in so great a spiral that I couldn’t spin my way out of it and immediately amass more crap. Cue my pre-ordered copy Super Mario Bros. Wii care of Amazon.com, despite the tired Princess Peach shenanigans (talk about a plot in need of a reboot) & Star Trek dvd (FLASHBACK)! Which brings me to this new feature on Little Junkies: Pop Couture. I like to think of it as a running wish list of random stuff like:

I brought team two up on comms, who had located the environmental controls to discover Arthree  altering the controls, slowly returning pressure to the ship. They reported that the ship should return to standard atmosphere within the hour. Then a familiar voice interrupted our transmission.

“That’s nice and all, but we’re in a bit of a spot here Vance.” Crix’s statement resounded through the small sound emitter.

“Crix, Is that you? What’s your location?” The adrenaline that was beginning to fade kicked into overdrive once again. ” Where the hell have you been?”

“I’ll be happy to tell you all of that if you can get us out of here. Our cutting equipment and one of my men got sucked into the ship… through what looks like a fifteen centimeter hole. We did what we could to prevent further casualties.”

“We’re on the way then. By the way, you missed out on a great fight…. It just goes to show that they truly don’t make droids like they used to.” I smiled with the thought, and winced at the pain in my shoulder. Without looking, I knew the arm to be lost. It would never again use it with success. With today’s technology, I can get it replaced easy enough. Or I could just let it hang there, useless for the rest of my life. Knowing that I would let it fall off first before going to one of those hack job surgeons. No, you will not, you will be born anew, answered the dragon.

As we made our way down to the engine compartment, some of team two’s commandoes were already cutting Crix and Alpha team out of their would-be tomb. I stopped in my tracks as I rounded the corner to see the remains of a tech could be seen spread all over the engine room’s floor, and nearby walls. The gelatinous blobs looked as though the man had exploded, which wasn’t too far from the truth.

At least we knew where to go from here. I contacted team two, and informed them that an Arthree unit would be attempting to restore pressure before they arrived. After receiving acknowledgement, we continued towards the bridge.

Kriff! I hate this. I can’t see, I can’t hear, and I certainly couldn’t fight in these conditions. I don’t see how these stormies can handle it. It’s like they were born in a vacuum or something. I finished the thought as I noticed a grey blur run through an intersection at the end of the corridor ahead of me. It was moving in the direction of the bridge, still some fifteen meters away from the intersection. I motioned for the troopers to follow, then began the most painful run of my life. The thundering that I thought was that of our boots against the deck plates was actually my heartbeat echoing through my head. My vision seemed to dim even more as I began to suffer a type of tunnel vision. I somehow managed to reach the intersection before the troopers.  As soon as I began to round the corner, a durasteel fist caught me in the center of my chest, knocking me nearly three meters back down the opposite corridor.

I landed on my knees, and out of reflex, I threw my left arm up as blaster bolts began sizzling past my head. In the darkness of my vision, I witnessed two white blurs roll into view. The sound of blaster fire continued, and intensified as the droid slowly backed down the corridor.

My ears popped again as pressure began to slowly climb. I rolled to the side behind a support beam. As I rolled, a blaster bolt caught my left leg, sending jolts of searing pain through my already aching body.

A voice then spoke to me. It was as clear as a bell. You were prepared to fight even before you were created. Get up! Get up and fight! The dragon within seemed to breathe fire into my weakened body and spirit. I began to regain  vision, and the shrieks of blaster fire became more distinct. I stood, now able to see the damage to my leg, which, in my newly empowered state,  seemed to be nothing more than a flesh wound. I spun around the support beam, rifle drawn, and began to charge past the troopers barricaded in the intersection, toward the antique assassin droid. I bellowed a war cry as I fired upon the droid, who deflected every shot with its own shield. The sleek droid returned fire, bathing the entire corridor with white hot bolts of energy. A single shot caught me center of mass as I advanced, threatening to throw me off balance. Without slowing down, I reached the droid and dove into its durasteel form, knocking the machine off of its feet, and taking it down to the deck plates. The droid latched onto my left arm, crushing armor and bone as it cinched ever tighter, threatening to detach it completely from my body.

Ignoring the pain, I delivered a single slash with my vibroblade, effectively beheading the ancient creation. The droid’s body fell flat against the deck plates with a metallic clang, and its powerless hand fell free of my now useless arm. I stood, looking down at my chest. The armor had protected me from the powerful bolt of energy. A scorched, gaping hole on the exterior gave view of multiple layers torn away from the heat. I could feel the thick, warm presence of my blood just under the final layer of armor. Another scar to remember me by, the voice said to me.

“Vector, do you copy? We’ve just sealed ourselves in, and are getting ready to….” The sounds of static and muffled screams were heard just before the channel closed.

“Alpha, come in…. Crix, answer me!” Without time to think, I pushed through the tech, and entered HaVoC’s Intent. Halfway through the door, my vision blurred from lack of oxygen, and my nose began pouring blood due to the lack of pressure. Fortunately, my hazy memory was intact enough to remember that I stored emergency breath masks in a console near the door. I tore open the latch, opening the console, and quickly donned the mask. My ears were ringing, and all was a blur. A flashback of my university professor pressed into my thoughts. The human body cannot survive for long periods of time in a vacuum without a pressure suit, especially if pressure change is rapid. The memory both awakened, and pained me. I felt like dying right there on the spot. Much more time here, and we WILL be dead, but we must push on.

I surmised that Crix and his team were dead, caught unawares of the environmental condition inside the ship. During our planning, we had thought of the lack of oxygen, but not this. I turned to the team, gazing upon their emotionless helmets, knowing that they were suffering similar effects without the availability of pressure suits.

“Everyone listen, we are now splitting into two teams. Half of you are with me; we’re going to the bridge to regain the ship. Team two; you get to the Engine Room and manually get environmental controls online. Stop for nothing, and cut the oxygen tanks open if you have to. It won’t be enough to completely pressurize, but at least it will buy us some time!” I blurrily glanced at the troopers now forming two groups, equally balancing both skill and weaponry.

Team two set off down the main ventral corridor just outside of view from our position. I led our small group of nine troopers towards the bridge, stopping at one of the control stations to view system status. Everything was powered down save for the grav plates, and security emplacements. I then unfastened and thumbed my communications datapad that connected me with Sara.

Only a moment went by before the reply.

Mission Report 09-1138-A11 Encryption code Zabina-Theta: Commander Crix Madine, Imperial Gunship – Interrogator

Lord Vader,

It may come as no surprise to you that Vance Rögen, also known as HaVoC in some circles, is a bit… fixated… on the loss of his vessel. He has not endangered equipment, or men as of yet. He seems to switch from meticulously focusing on one task at a time, to spreading his thoughts over matters and distances that I simply cannot fathom. He is an enigma of sorts.

My orders have been to observe Vance Rögen and determine if connections exist with the any of the Republic loyalist factions. In spite of equipment placed both on his person, and in his quarters, to date, I have not observed any such alliances.
