Hello again my darlings.

That was creepy.

But hello, and welcome. There have been a lot of thoughts inside my mind. And I would like to share them with you tonight. Read along, will you?

As Friday, aka leaving home for good day, approaches closer and closer, a feeling has started to have root in my mind. It’s not necessarily fear or anxiety as most incoming freshman would have, and for good reason, but it’s more like a statement. It’s not so much as the “Can I do this?” as it is “I’m going to college. I’m going to succeed.” It’s just the plain fact that I’m going to go to college resounding in my head. I have never once felt nervous about this whole process at all. I’ve visited the place enough to know my way around without staring at a map the whole time. And I have confidence in my social skills to make friends without turning into someone I’m not. I think the right thing to say is that, now, as all of my possessions are either put in boxes or piled to be organized through by my family and possibly thrown out, the fact that I am going to college is…real. It all feels so real now. It’s actually happening. And I’ll just say, time has done nothing but sped up so quickly.

It seems only a moment ago that I walked into high school as an eighteen year old senior, on top of the dog pile, ruling the school. Ok, maybe not ruling the school at all, but you have felt the feeling before, right? Right. It seems that only a second ago my senior season of volleyball was in full swing, and I was actually having fun with the team. It seems like only a minute ago that my life changed forever when my ACL tore.

And while we are on the subject, I feel like I constantly talk about that. It’s stupid. I really need to stop talking about it. But then again, whenever I bring it up, people ask me so many questions and I end up telling them everything about it. So if we ever get into a conversation, try not to bring up my knee. Bring up other topics like the different species of angelfish or maybe the perfect recipe for a peanut butter cookie.

Back on track here.

It seems like only minutes ago that I was struggling through physical therapy, wondering if there was light at the end of the tunnel. It seems like only an hour ago I was nervously awaiting my response to my physical therapy direct entry, and celebrating when I made it in. It seems like only an hour ago that I signed on the dotted line and accepted an offer to play volleyball at the collegiate level.

If I was in the passenger seat of a car, on the road of life, this is what the scenario looks like. The car is a race car, with all the bumper stickers of product placement and sponsors of my life. Most likely the main sponsor would be a giant GOD on the front of the hood, followed by volleyball and Pantene, because I like it when my hair feels fabulous. Tide and Oreos and Jiff and other delicious food products would be on there of course. Back with the attention to me in the car, one realizes that in a race car, it would seem common sense to have a safety mechanism for the passenger. That way they don’t die when it comes to the awesome car flips and fires we see on highlight reels. But no. This is not how Life makes cars. They don’t really have a knowledge of safety features. Or anything related to the word safety really. So there is no seat belts, there is no harness, there is not even a roller coaster restraining bar to hold your lower body in. There is a single rope, hanging from the ceiling, and I am meant to hold on to it. The driver, if you watch nickelodeon at all, is none other than Spongebob Squarepants. And if you know the show well enough to know his driving habits, you know that a smooth ride is far from the truth.

And now you have a good feeling of what life has been feeling like to me recently.

Heaven knows I can’t reach over to pull the wheel away from the crazy underwater driver, because I would be risking letting go of the rope. So I am just to flail around helplessly in the driving test that is called Life.

It’s definitely not as fun as the board game either.

Not at all.
