I went to see the new movie Cloud Atlas the other day and was thoroughly confused throughout. Hones

I went to see the new movie Cloud Atlas the other day and was thoroughly confused throughout. Honestly the only though in my head while I was in the theatre was, ‘what the hell am I watching? This film follows 6 stories that are somehow connected that involve many of the same actors as different characters over a span of multiple locations and time periods. Yes, it is that confusing.

I was entertained by certain elements in this nearly 3 hour long movie such as the comedic plot of an elderly publisher who is forced into an old folks home and plans to escape with new friends. Other positive elements included the masterful makeup and transformations of the actors faces while they played multiple roles. Also, the special effects and camera work as well as a majority of the acting were very good if not stellar.

Though sadly the bad outweighs the good in this film. The main problem with this attempt at a film epic was that the individual stories (some of which would make good movies on their own) were mashed together and clashed making me wonder if it was simply that confusing or if it just went way over my head. I am sure the writer and directors had a very interesting story that they wanted to tell but it really did not come out successfully on the big screen. Another strange element was in one of the story lines that took place in what seemed to be a post stone age village in an alternate past when the language spoken by the people was some strange primitive english which was very confusing and needed subtitles. Also, this movie was unnecessarily graphic at times. For some reason in the primitive timeline, there were cannibals on horseback that would slit necks and pillage all on camera for some reason. As well, there was one particularly disturbing timeline which took place in futuristic Korea in which there are human slaves that work at a restaurant and act robotically and then we find out that after they are there for a few years, they are killed and their bodies are used to make the food that the restaurant serves. This film also included charming scenes such as a crazed doctor trying to kill a man by slowly poisoning him, torture, suicide, rape, remains of dead bodies and other charming elements. I have only touched on a few of the many plots but others include a homosexual conman who becomes a composer’s apprentice and then shoots the composer and then kills himself, a crazy author who throws a critic of of a building (with a graphic view of the splat), An old man (who was one of the homosexual lovers many year later) who was killed over nuclear plans that the oil company is trying to hide, Hale Berry as a 70s reporter and then somehow a futuristic visitor to the primitive timeline, a Korean waitress saved and rescued multiple times only to join the resistance and watch as everyone she knows is killed in a “last stand”, and other strange plots. If you think my synopsis is confusing then you definitely dont want to see this film.

What was more confusing than the plot of this film is what would poses all of the A-list actors to agree to be in it! It had Tom Hanks and Jim Broadbent in more important roles and Keith David, Susan Sarandon and Hugh Grant as minor roles! Im really confused about how they brain controlled these great actors to have such minor and convoluted roles in this movie.

Overall I would rate this 4.5/10 and would disuade all to go see it unless you are extremely pretentious ‘artist’ or a philosophy scholar and would like something to think about for a while.

Until next post,

-David

So, The Green Mile. My mum has been trying to get get me to watch this for the past 6 months or so and I have never really fancied it. But today, I decided to watch it with her. Little did I know, that I was to be captivated and moved by this film. This is definitely one of those films that will stay with you. The plot is based around Death Row. A new prisoner comes in convicted of a double murder. The prisoner, played superbly by recently deceased, Michael Clark Duncan, is over 7 feet tall with huge muscles that shocks the guards. Despite his appearance, it is discovered that he is really quite timid. The rest of the story consists of how time is spent in the prison an the amazing events that happen. First of all, this film is not for the light-hearted. I would recommend being at least 18 or extremely mature for your age (like me). Even then, a certain part is quite traumatising. Despite that, the film is well-acted, funny in parts and loved by anyone who comes across it. The villains are well cast as you definitely want harm to come to them. Overall, you must watch this at some point in your life as it is just so loveable.

Hanks, whose new “Cloud Atlas” film was released in theaters on October 26 Indian, read

Hanks, whose new “Cloud Atlas” film was released in theaters on October 26 Indian, read about Aamir in September 10 issue of the prestigious magazine Time, in which he was positioned as India’s “first superstar activist.”
“I really admire the work that is Aamir Khan (India). Very few celebrities take the initiative to make themselves known to change society and has done an outstanding job, “said Hanks in a statement.

Aamir awakened many viewers with its first small screen, “Satyamev jayate,” a show through which he brought several social issues such as female feticide and dowry in the foreground, supported by statistics. Hanks feels it is all a part of giving back to people who give artists much love.
“This is the” giving-back “is difficult. Aamir seems to understand the power of influence to be a celebrity and is used to act as a catalyst for change in society, something that certainly deserves times appreciation and support from all sides, “said Hanks.
The actor “Forrest Gump” will feature starring Halle Berry and Hugh Grant in “Cloud Atlas”, co-directed by Lana Wachowski, Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer.

The yarn shop is a reality. We got some friends in to help with putting up the sign. Having waited for dry weather and an evening when we were all free to meet at ‘Hanks’ the sky became dark and ominous. After a 10 minute thunder and lightening event we got the sign up. The Heavenly smell from the Indian restaurant across the road was almost to much to resist. Resist we did as food was awaiting at home. Another time, soon I hope.

Tom Hanks became emotional at his friend Michael Clarke Duncan’s memorial service on September 10, while recalling a hilarious story his Green Mile co-star had told him about joining a gang as a youth in Chicago.

Hanks used impersonations of Duncan to help illustrate the tale. Duncan told him that there was a particular gang that distinguished themselves from others by dying a patch of their afro red. To join the gang you had to survive a 20-minute beating.

Duncan said he survived the beating no problem, got his red patch of hair, then went home to show his mama.

His mother, who is a lady of small stature was cooking dinner. She asked her son why he had a red patch of hair in his head. He told her it was because he had just joined a gang.

Before he knew what happened his mama had hit him upside the head with a frying pan, sending pork chops flying. She told Duncan, who by then was crying hysterically to go borrow a pair of scissors from his sister and cut that red patch of hair out of his head. Then go down the street and tell that gang he wouldn’t be joining them after all.

Duncan did as he was told, then heads down the street with a bald patch in his afro. He finds the gang and tells them his mother said he couldn’t join.

Hanks said he asked Duncan what happened next and Duncan told him they beat the crap out him again for another 20 minutes.

At long last, The Wachowskis are back! Their upcoming film, Cloud Atlas, is set to be shown in the big screen late this year. I expect that this will be a good comeback movie for them. Their remake of the “Speed Racer” didn’t really bring them the kind of success that they enjoyed with their previous works “The Matrix Trilogy” and “V for Vendetta”.

The film is adopted from the novel, of the same name, written by David Mitchell. A brief synopsis describes it as “An epic story of humankind in which the actions and consequences of our lives impact one another throughout the past, present, and future as one soul is shaped from a murderer into a savior and a single act of kindness ripples out for centuries to inspire a revolution”.

I think the ideas presented in this film can be simply put as this: “A person’s life is interconnected with another person. No matter what reincarnation or what life time they are born into, they will always cross paths with that same person whom they have previously met in a past life time. Their actions in the past and present will have a significant contribution on the life that they will be reaping in the future.”

This movie is actually one of those mind-fuck films. It makes you think, it makes you question reality and it makes you say “Yeah, what if”. Which I think, is one of the reasons that make it really good. I find films like these very enjoyable. You cannot simply fathom on how this movie will end. And judging by the length of the trailer, this is one of those “3 hour long” types of movies.

The casting is nice, all star as how they refer to it, which features Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving and Jim Broadbent. How awesome can it get? As far as I remember, I have never seen a Tom Hanks film that is a flop. Any film which stars him is really good, plus he is really an astounding actor. I am counting on seeing another classic Tom Hanks performance. It is also interesting to see him with Halle Berry. If my memory serves me right I have not seen any film which casts both of them. For sure, you also have to watch out for Jim and Hugo’s performance on this one.

I am eager to find out on how they are going to present the jumps in life times. I just love that they really elaborated and shown details on these. I hope that they presented it in a very nice manner. It spans from the past “tribal” time to the present “modern day” time and to the “futuristic and robotic” time. I hope also that it wouldn’t be so confusing coz they said that one character maybe playing a man in one lifetime and a woman in another lifetime.

I simply cannot wait for this to be shown on the big screen.

Natural law. Sons are put on this earth to trouble their fathers

HOW TO LOOK THROUGH THE PROTAGONIST’S EYES

Free Digital Photos

Looking at the world through the eyes of the protagonist will help to develop a fuller story. This is a basic principle of writing.

Using the protagonist can assist with creating empathy for your themes, your premise, and for your other characters.

Think about Wilson. There is no other inanimate object as well-known and as personified as him. Who is Wilson? He’s the volleyball from Cast Away with Tom Hanks.

Tom Hanks is stranded on an island, and he creates this “person” from the volleyball. At first it was just a joke for him, but as the movie progressed, Wilson had thoughts, feelings, emotions…and an attitude.

Many of us laughed when we saw this, and frankly, I still do, but the creators of Cast Away showed us something as writers that we should heed: anything is important through the eyes of your protagonist.

Your protagonist’s views about the other characters, about herself, and about the world in general all bond together to mold the reader’s thoughts into whatever you want them to be.

How can we use this to our advantage?

Think about that “blank”-of-an-ex-wife. Your protagonist hates her. She’s always doing things to get under his skin, and she would burn the hairs off his head if she had the chance.

Describing her this way makes the reader develop an opinion. With that opinion, we can further develop the plot so that she is even worse than the protagonist imagined, or we can flip the script and have her be quite the contrary, even to the point where the protagonist is the one with the wrong perception.

This is just one example. What’s important is to understand that our readers are always making judgments about other characters and about everything else. Since we know that, let’s look at ways to use these judgments in our novels.
