…5:25     Bill arrives.  Sound level increases.     5:31p.m.      I stink.  Geez, crouched over, doesn’t seem like work.  But I get and do the paper changeover thing and I smell me.  I took a shower.  I’m not nervous.     And the sound, quite loud street recording continues.  Right on the edge wwhere the tension it is causing is good but it is irratating.  That “Get to it Dodson” yells Bill as he walks out back munching nuts.     10 seconds   he returns.     “Nice hat”.  “Thanks”.  So, I spoke.  But I can speak whenever I wqant and nobody ca THE MAGIC CARPET IS HOVERING.  SOUNDS LIKEE HELL, BUT IT’S HOVERING.     There are 17 people in here.  It’s 5:43.pm.     Don’t read what you have typed…

…8:27p.m.     8:27:51p.m     Out she goes.   Back to 3.     Stop counting.     The heart of dusk.  A woman with a pizza walks by.  2 slo-mo skateboarders go by.  they disappear.  They reapper.  They can’t resist.  They come in, skateboards in hand.  “You are hogging the hole”, says one to the other.  “Someone is getting their ass kicked”, he giggles.  “What’s so cool A about this?”  “Hey move.  Let me see.”  They lleave.  They want to go downstairs.  Why do boys want to go downstairs?  I want to go downstairs.

A MAGIC CARPET RIDE – a 24-hour non-performance by Jeff Dodson for a 24-hour group exhibition called 24 (here) with 8 UC Davis art studio graduate students in a private space made public at 514 Main Street in Woodland (California) from noon SAT o7 JUN 2003 – SUN 08 JUN 2003 as part of a seminar with Hannah Collins where the goal was to conjure a venue then create and curate a group show and continue to question the whole process there:

For 24 consecutive hours the artist sat on a small Chinese chair on a beige carpet remnant (the doormat of his apartment at the time) on a dilapidated stage. On a portable typewriter he typed whatever came into his mind.

Prior to the start of the opening of 24 the artist taped 24 sheets of typing paper in a line on the floor of the main show space. By the end of 24, 18 pages were typed and 6 were blank:

Prior to the opening the artist found 100’s of magazines splayed in disarray on the stage the table and the floor. He ordered them into stacks on the stage. 100 days later he returned to the locked space and shot a photo through the window:

L’espai cultural Caixaforum acollirà des del 23 de maig al 24 d’agost una exposició sobre el treball recent de la fotògrafa londinenca Hannah Collins en què totes les obres exposades es caracteritzen per la seva gran dimensió.

Per primera vegada, una exposició reunirà tres projeccions multipantalla i 20 fotos panoràmiques a la major escala que es pot trobar actualment en l’art contemporani. La mostra viatjarà després de la seva estada a Barcelona a Vitòria i Madrid coincidint amb la fira ‘Fotoespaña’ el juny del 2009.

Alhora, l’exposició també inclourà la preestrena de ‘Dibuixant sobre la ciutat’, un projecte escultòric i arquitectònic concebut com un recorregut pel paisatge canviant de la Barcelona metropolitana i el barri de Sant Adrià.

La temàtica de les seves obres abraça la relació entre la soledat i la companyia, el desarrelament, la dificultat d’establir vincles afectius, de trencar l’aïllament i desenvolupar formes de vida col·lectiva, encarnada en emigrants, exiliats i nòmades, entre d’altres.
