Heya guys and girls and welcome to my top telly blog entry. If you are a regular visitor then you’ll know that I haven’t posted a blog entry (that is not a news update) for quite a while now and if you follow me on twitter then you’ll now that I have been writing some new material for my blog so I am back on track. I am going to tell y’all a brief description of my fave television shows.

Although it is titled ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ and my name just so happens to be CHRIS and it ended in the fall of this year (2009), I am still a big fan of this show. This is perhaps one of the most famous sitcoms and was the first sitcom to feature an all black cast. I am a really big fan and am happy that they started to re -air old episodes. If they didn’t then kids of the 21st century wouldn’t of seen where popular comedy actress Raven Symone began her work as a child actress which brings me nicely onto my next show which is entitled…

Do you see the resemblance? OK, what was I saying? Oh yes, ‘That’s So Raven’ is a great show although I do not like the concept of Raven being a physic. The show follows the story of Raven Baxter being a physic teen who foresees things before they happen and it’s her duty to stop them. She needs the help of her friends. The way she attempts to stop things from happening are hilarious! When the show ended on November 10, 2007, I was devastated like many fans were. But when I found out that a similar show was being made for Nickelodeon (rival channel for Disney channel home of ‘That’s So Raven’) that did not involve physics, i was ecstatic! True Jackson, VP.

True Jackson has always dreamed of becoming a fashion designer and is overjoyed when she is discovered selling sandwiches in a fashion magazine lobby. They are so impressed with her that they promote her to the job title of vice president of the teen section of the magazine.

I love this show as well as many others including: iCarly, Drake and Josh, Waterloo Road, Outnumbered, Suite Life, Spongebob, 90210, Friends and Smallville.

A estrela adolescente Miley Cyrus, que completou 17 anos essa semana, disse em entrevista a edição dedezembro/janeiro da revista norte-americana Seventeen que quer ser a nova Beyoncé. A estrela da série Hannah Montana, disse que pretende seguir os passos no mundo da música de Beyoncé e que considera ela uma mulher perfeita.

“Quero ser como a Beyoncé. Ela é perfeita. Você olha pra ela e não pensa em mais nada. Eu imagino como seja a vida pessoal dela. “Aquela garota no palco é uma super estrela’. Você não liga para mais nada, só para sua música. Espero que eu seja assim no futuro” disse Miley.

Miley faz sucesso desde pequena e como todos os artistas que começam cedo é normal que ela passe por mudanças em sua carreira, com o tempo a jovem artista está tentando deixar de lado a imagem de garota da Disney. A estrela teen já começou a mostrar essas mudanças no clipe de “Party in the USA“, em que Miley parece com visual mais sexy e com uma letra pop, que fala até de Britney Spears.

Tomara que ela siga o exemplo de Beyoncé e não de Spears.

Los curas españoles tienen 63 años de media. En alguna zona incluso superan los 72. Edades muy buenas para hablar de la realidad suprema del espíritu santo, salir en procesión e incluso para presidir TVE, pero algo pasadas para contactar con los jóvenes. No hay feeling, me temo, entre sacerdotes y chavalería. Lo de los monaguillos es otra cosa… Las diferencias van más allá de lo generacional o lo ideológico, puesto que las primeras y profundas brechas se abren a partir de lo estilístico: entre el look de Rouco Varela y el de Hannah Montana, incomprensiblemente los chicos se quedan con el de Hannah Montana. Rouco, despechado, piensa que el verdadero problema es que en España se está discriminando la enseñanza de la religión.

Mi hija no asiste a clase de religión. Cuando llega el momento abandona el aula y, como buena no bautizada, se sumerge en un limbo escolar. Que no es otra cosa que la habitación contigua, donde pasa la hora leyendo o mirando a las musarañas. En ese tiempo no puede estudiar o recibir lecciones de ninguna materia alternativa, aseguran, puesto que tendría ventaja con respecto al resto de compañeros. Es decir, que o religión, o nada.

¿Quién resulta marginada, la enseñanza de la religión o los alumnos laicos? Si Rouco y la conferencia episcopal no saben responder a esta sencilla pregunta, ni les planteamos las siguientes: ¿Se ha negado a algún padre la enseñanza religiosa de su hijo? ¿Pretenden que la enseñanza católica vuelva a ser obligatoria? Me temo que a estas alturas resulta difícil dar marcha atrás. Tanto, como comprender la permanente insatisfacción de una Iglesia, la católica, que se apolilla y envejece sin remedio.

En 1931 Manuel Azaña, que era un sabio, advirtió que el tiempo de la Iglesia en nuestro país estaba agotado. En su magistral discurso del 13 de octubre en las Cortes dijo: “España ha dejado de ser católica: el problema político consiguiente es organizar el Estado en forma tal que quede adecuado a esta fase nueva e histórica del pueblo español…Que haya en España millones de creyentes, yo no lo discuto; pero lo que da el ser religioso de un país, de un pueblo y de una sociedad no es la suma numérica de creencias o creyentes, sino el esfuerzo creador de su mente, el rumbo que sigue su cultura”.

The Best Movie of 2009?

I think Up deserves an Oscar. Not only is it the best animated picture of the year, it is one that convinced me that digital animation is a formidable medium that I would be well-served to accept. What I really liked about Up is that although a children’s film, its message of life after death is actually quite grown up, and not in the grown up, slyly winking style of a Wes Anderson Fantastic Mr. Fox but grown up in the fact that the movie’s themes are presented elegantly and simply, at once entertaining and on-message. Are children’s movies the next adults between 18 and 49 genre? I do not know, but Up makes a good argument for.

This idea is funny, because Up really does not have any characters from that demographic. Think about it, Carl is a senior citizen and Russell is a pre-adolescent boy, a tween in Disney-speak (thankfully without the obnoxious Hannah Montana baggage). The only adults are the cell-phone carrying architects who are trying to evict Carl from his home. You could argue that it is the mere absence of adults that marks this film—Russell’s dad is negligent, the medical techs who come to take Carl to Shady Oaks simpering, and Carl’s wife Ellie dead. Is director Peter Docter doing away with adults for a reason? Are they artifacts of a meshugge generation, one whose main aim beyond technology is money? Do they know as much about life as old people and children?

By all appearances from the plot, this is an adventure. Newlyweds Carl and wife Ellie picks a point on the globe, South America (“Just like America, but south” according to Russell) remote enough to not be bothered, to travel to one day when they have the money. Unfortunately, Ellie dies (again, very un-Disney) and Carl is left alone. A balloon vendor, Carl ties up thousands of balloons to his home and takes off one morning after assaulting a contractor come to take over his house and build an office on top of it. Unlikely but equally unfortunate, a young boy, Russell hitches along for the ride. At Paradise Falls, they find a crazed explorer Charles Muntz, bent on discovering a rare bird. Chaos ensues as Carl and company find the aptly named she-bird “Kevin” first.

Here’s the ironic part to the adventure—it’s essentially pointless. Oh, sure, they save Kevin and meet a loveable golden named Dug, but there is no intrinsic value to the adventure. In fact, the only thing Carl learns is that his wife’s adventure book is already quite full. Under “Things I’m Going to Do” are photos from the couple’s marriage. It was his promise to Adventure with her, yet he finds that that promise was not broken.

OK, before you throw Dorothy’s “there’s no place like home” at me—I don’t find this message hackneyed. Think about it, the balloon-home is unable to be rescued; in the final scene it rests on the cliff of Paradise Falls. The house, the dream, the wife is gone. All that remains is a scrapbook with a couple of memories from a mundane and childless marriage. We can rightly assume Carl is assigned to Shady Oaks after returning to the city—he could even be on probation for assaulting the contractor. Russell’s dad does not show up for his “Wilderness Explorers” ceremony. Review that awards ceremony scene at the end—have you seen a more depressing pay-off in a movie? In a kids’ movie for gosh sake? I have never seen a bigger tent-pole movie with such a humble message—enjoy the things you have because they will turn into memories.

Yet according to Up those memories need to sustain us. Look at Muntz. In his quest to find the bird, whatever it is, he loses out on a lifetime of memories, instead retreating into himself and his madness. This is what happens when you try to hold onto things—you end up losing everything else.

So, in the end, Up is a winsome piece of fluff. The story is exciting, the characters warm and fun, but like Prospero’s midnight mushrooms, they are of no weight, no purpose, their only object being to send a wispy message: Enjoy life when you can.

A pretty subversive message coming from a Silicon Valley media conglomerate that makes pablum for kids, huh? All I can say is I am glad I was there for the ride.

Cody Linley is ready for his close-up under the bright lights of Broadway.

The 20-year-old star — best remembered as Miley Stewart’s on-again/off-again boyfriend Jack Ryan on Disney’s Hannah Montana – has signed on to appear in the war-themed musical Over Here!, opening on New York’s famous theater district next year.

“Cody is very excited about going to Broadway,” says a rep for the star.

Father's & Kids Experience

At a recent Colts Father’s & Kids Experience, I had the pleasure of talking to over 2,000 men and children about the importance of excercise and nutrition.  According to a recent study, our children’s life expectancy is shorter than our (as their parents)!

The steady rise to childhood obesity today has motivated many organizations to increase the activity of children and youth across America.  Gone are the days of waking up and playing outside until the street light comes on.  We are in an era of video games, and internet that captivates the time of our youth.

Even the NFL has gotten into the act with NFL Play 60.  The NFL’s effort to get kids active through simple drills for 60 minutes of activity every day.  Did you know that even Bill Gates doesn’t let his kids watch more than 45 minutes of TV a day!  That’s one episode of Hannah Montana, and half of Jonas’ Brothers and that’s it!

Here are some helpful tips that we gave the dad’s at our All Pro Dad event to get your family up and out of the house:

• Include your kids in your workout! That’s assuming you do workout! If you are not physically active, it’s important to start.  Not only is it a great opportunity for you to stay in shape, but it also allows you to spend time with your children.  You can now create a habit in your household of healthy physical activity that everyone can enjoy.
• Give Activity Rewards instead of Food Rewards! The next time your child gets a good grade on their report card, or does something that makes you proud, reward them with their favorite thing to do outside.  Let them skateboard, go for a family bike ride, or have a fun game of flag football.  This is far better for your family than rewarding them with a fattening burger and milkshake and their favorite restaurant.
• Find out what your child’s favorite game to play outside! Everyone has a favorite thing to do outside.  Ask your kids what they love to do, and make a great memory with them by getting outside and playing with them.

These three simple tips can be the difference between a healthy lifestyle, or being another statistic.

And this profusion of rock-themed ohrwurms has brought with it a hideous array of covers, which are designed to fill in all the empty spots between the original “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” on the radio. Because we care for you, we’ll leave you with only this example:

Esto sería también una llamada de atención para Miley Cyrus, que aún no se quita a Hannah Montana de encima.
