Ok, I have to start this post off with, today is not a good typing day for me, so sorry for any mist

Ok, I have to start this post off with, today is not a good typing day for me, so sorry for any mistakes. It took me three times to get the title correct, damn fingers!!

First of all I have to send a little note to my two best friends, Debi and Amy, congrats on your new little girls, I love them both so much and I have even met them yet. Debi had her little girl, Ceridwen Elora Daeylyn Williams btw, Deb, I am still going to call her my babygirl Ela), on October 23, 2009 (I know a bit late, I’m sorry) and Amy had her little girl this week, December 16, 2009 Jadyn-Amy Boulrice. Congrats to you both, I love all four of you and I miss you more than you can ever know!

So, Christmas is just around the corner, well not even around the corner, more like walking up the steps ready to ring the door bell. But I am ready for it, even though the post office is crazy right now and it’s finals week at school. It was not easy to be ready for it, but alas I am. Yesterday I spent 3 1/2 hours driving around and getting my Christmas shopping all done. I was actually very surprised that it only took 3 1/2 hours because it was the last shopping Saturday before the big day.

I have to say though, it has not been an easy shopping year this year. Usually I can easily decide what do get for everyone on my shopping list. This was very hard to shop for all the people. Especially since it seemed like everywhere I went to buy something, they didn’t have it! Earlier this week I went to the mall (AAAHH I know), to get a few gifts for some of my list. I walked through almost every single store in the mall and no one had anything I wanted, and I had a list of what I was going to buy. So, finally yesterday I went back to the mall (a different one) and boy are people crazy there in the Christmas season. Crazy Ass drivers, and insane parents. I even heard this one old woman say “God Damnit Jack, just decide if you are going to buy the stupid thing or not”, it was so funny because she was talking to her husband (I assume), and they were pretty up there in age.

Anywho, the mall still didn’t have what I wanted, well I guess they did but the ad I saw for the gift showed it sold all together for a decent price, but when I got there you had to buy all the little things separately, and each piece was the price of the entire thing together, what kind of crap is that?

I had also been searching for a specific gift for my love, and I went to every store imaginable that would sell the damn thing and could not find it. I spent 3 weeks looking for it. I finally found it on Saturday thank god! And apparently, the store had just gotten a shipment in of the item the day before. They had not carried the item for a few years, so I was damn lucky to have gotten it. Sure hope he likes it too, actually, I should say he better like it cuz it was a pain the ass to find lol

So, my Christmas shopping is done, I hope every likes their gifts, and now that they are all wrapped and under the tiny little tree, I just want everyone to open them now so I can see their faces and see if they like what I got them.

Oh Christmas Tree (+cat)

Plus, my birthday is in a week. Yes, yes, two days after Christmas, and yes it does suck having it so close to Christmas, for many reasons. First of all, hello people, it’s TWO.DAYS.AFTER.CHRISTMAS….second, I can never have a BBQ or outdoor party because it’s too damn cold here in the land that breads missionaries, and the “Greatest Snow on Earth” (which, ok if you like so I guess it could be, but I don’t, so there ya go). Third, I can never have an Ice Cream cake because it just doesn’t seem right to eat frozen cake when it’s this cold. Next, we have the birthday/Christmas presents, this is not really fun. Not that I expect presents or whatever, but it’s not like a person with a birthday in June gets a present from someone and they say “This is for Christmas and your Birthday”, but the main thing that really IRKS me more than anything, and it may seem so minor to many of you, but Christmas paper or bag for a birthday wrapping solution. C’mon people, I understand you have the paper already out and what-have-you, but at least put forth the effort to turn the paper the other way so it doesn’t look like Christmas paper!

The new Aussie friends…. I had the great fortune to meet a wonderful new couple this week, Mia and Matt from Australia. These two people have the greatest out look on life. Matt was transfered here for work, they have been here 6 months and will be here for at least 2 years. Our friends the Chris’ introduce us to the Aussie folk, and I just love to hear them talk. I know sounds kind of silly, but it’s AUSSOME (see the pun lol, I know, I’m hilarious). Their lives in Australia are so much different from ours, and boy do we have Aussies ASS.BACKWORDS. Last night we played Catchphrase, and did you know that what we call tuition, which means we pay for school, they know as get intuition, and they call it tuition, it’s knowledge!! And their toilets really do flush in the other direction, and they notice!! No one says Good’day Mate anymore, not even the other generation. And Shrimp on the Barbee, is not a real thing, first off, they are prawns, not shrimp and you do.not.bbq.them!

And the last part of my title, the broken bed…LOL You’re going to love this one. As we are laying in bed last night, I decide, “gotta pee”, so I get up and do my thing, when I come back to bed my love is laying in the middle of the bed, where I left him, yet he is much much closer to the ground than he should be, (little back story on the bed, it’s from IKEA, and it’s base sits only about 4 inches of the ground, the mattress is about 2.5 feet off the ground, so it’s a low bed). Yet, the sides of the mattress are where they should be. Now, to know this bed, you have to know IKEA, and IKEA bed have wooden slats for many of the styles, and usually no box spring. These wooden slats are not attached to the bed in anyway, the sit on top of two side metal pieces and a center beam. So after a night of consuming alcohol, and staying up chatting with our friends the Chris’ and our new Aussie friends, M&M, (M&M, do you like that? Cuz my love and I are T&T, or TNT cuz we’re DYNAMITE LOL) so anyways, I tell my honey that the bed is broken and he needs to get up, now he is half asleep and does.not.want.to.move. But I can clearly see there is something very wrong with the bed. He tells me, “it’s just the slats, they just fell of the beam or something”, so I climb on in and instantly roll to the cent of the bed. This is NOT RIGHT! since it is a king size bed and each side has it’s own set of slats, my side should not be caving in unless something is seriously wrong. So I keep telling him, “babe, the bed is broken, you need to get up!” but he is in denial about it and still does.not.want.to.move, but alas I become a nagging girlfriend and he finally gets up to “fix the slats”, so we lift of the heavy-as-all-hell mattress and he fusses with the slats, when he notices that the center beam, supposedly really sturdy metal, is bent in the center of the bed all the way to the ground. The damn thing was touching the carpet! So, we decide, ok, fine, we can’t do much more damage, so lets just go to bed and worry about it in the morning, (btw, it was 5:45 AM already). So once again we climb in to bed. No, his side of the bed no longer has the slats for support cuz he couldn’t get them back on the beam, obviously, so he is about 4 inches lower on the bed then I am. Now, where I am laying, my head is being supported by slats, and my feet are being supported by slats, but ass is basically touching the ground, I feel like I am laying in one of the mechanical hospital beds with my head and feet propped up, and it was.not.comfy. So I tell him I am going to the couch, and he says no it’s fine….so I lay waiting a few minutes, when he groans and I ask if he’s ok, he says “yeah, are you?” I tell him “No, I am so uncomfortable right now” and so we ended up going to the U-shaped couch in the living room (it’s 6AM now), with our heads touching and our bodies aiming in the opposite direction, we looked like the letter C, and holding hands when we fell asleep. AW, cute huh?

So, after a stressful week of Christmas shopping, working my ass off at the post office, working on FINALS (blah), meeting great new Aussie friends, and a broken bed, I wish you all happy holidays, a wonderful and safe New Year’s and Happy Birthday to the greatest person in the world!!ME!

so to leave you with this little note, I did not fall down anytime recently, but I did break a bed! Merry Christmas people!

Today is my birthday, happy birthday to muah!

Today I am going picture crazy, and I am very excited to see my gifts. I will hopefully update you on my photos and gifts later, if not, for sure on thursday/friday.

Yay for cake, monkey’s lunch cake, and hello kahlua and such on a wednesday night! I didn’t ask for much, all I asked for was pretty much stuff for my camera, a tripod, a lens for christmas. Interior design mags and that’s about it. What I will be getting from Randy I do not know, if it is after my birthday, to be honest I do not want it. I reallllyy hope I don’t have to go to school on thursday, though I know I should. Enough babbling, I am off to enjoy my day, updates soon.

It’s that time again peoples…TMI Thursday. As lovely LiLu always says: Alright, folks, you know the rules. Join us all in humiliating the crap out of yourself every Thursday by sharing some completely tasteless, wholly unclassy, “how many readers can I estrange THIS week??” TMI story about your life. Or hell, about someone else’s!

Remember the time when I decided to celebrate my 25th birthday by combining three of my favorite things: day drinking, dive bars and public transportation? And we took the train up the SF Peninsula, stopping at dive bars and drinking en route all day? And the plan was to drink early since I had to be at work at 9:30 the next morning? Yeah, that happened.

The drinking was serious, the costumes were amazing, the bars very divey and the people/pictures awesome. Only the plan failed and I ended up in the Castro on Halloween night. And didn’t get home until 4 a.m. The Castro looked something like this (supposedly)…

And this…

Anyway, it was a shitshow. After drinking all day, someone decided that rather than sending my drunk ass home, they should take me to a party at SF State. But instead, we ended up in the Castro, unclear how or why that happened but it did. Things I don’t remember (once we got to SF) but supposedly happened: eating sandwiches at a deli, nearly getting kicked out of a bar, running into something so hard that I had a giant bruise on my thigh before the night was even over, “losing” my fireman helmet in a bathroom at the train station, getting back to BART.

Things I do remember include: taking back-to-back jager bombs with Baggage at a very very very crowded bar. And by back-to-back, I don’t mean standing with our backs to each other. Meanwhile, SS was having a panic/anxiety attack because it was so crowded(?) Obviously, Baggage and I are great friends. After realizing that SS was seriously freaking out, we went outside to try to get her some air. She sat down on the curb, calmed a bit and then somehow convinced us that we should let her go home on BART by herself. What? Worst friends ever.

When SS decided she could get up, Baggage attempted to lend her a hand to help her up. In what was probably not a statement of her independence as a woman, SS promptly VOMITED ON HIS HAND.

Yes, on his hand. Who does that? And I was the one who was blackout drunk. It really defies logic.

And speaking of vomit, add to the list of people who had a worse night than I did, my other roommate BV, who, despite not coming on the train, not only vomited on herself and her shoes but ALSO came home with a giant gash in her calf.

Basically, I’m counting this as a WIN for me. And I’ve got to give credit to Baggage for being awesome and 1) taking the whole vomit on the hand thing in stride and 2) being the last man standing on my 25th birthday after approximately 15 hours of drinking, and without whom I probably would have been found raped and murdered being licked by dogs and/or homelesses in a gutter in SF the next day.

The end (for now).

And yes, I did just tell this story so that I could feel better about myself. I write a blog, don’t act so shocked.

All the ingredients, the mix and eggs and oil and sugary blue and green frosting, were fashioned wit

All the ingredients, the mix and eggs and oil and sugary blue and green frosting, were fashioned with love and care by the baker at our local supermarket into the perfect cake. A rectangle of show-stopping perfection.

My wife picked it up and we hauled it to my mom and dad’s place. My mom had prepared the bestest of birthday dinners. Beef and noodles, deviled eggs, French-style green beans, heat-and-serve rolls, and her world-famous, to-die-for hash brown potato casserole with golden brown corn flakes on top. These are the delicacies that have padded my ribs for forty one years now, and they’ve never tasted better.

To top it all off was that gorgeous cake, which my eight year old insisted say “Happy Birthday Daddy.” And so it did.

Early yesterday morning, a friend of mine from Chicago sent me a note on Facebook telling me she couldn’t write on my wall so she was sending a message instead, wishing me a happy day. I changed my settings to make things easier for others, and more birthday wishes began rolling in. Some from relatives, others from older friends, and one in particular from someone I’d never met. She lives in my town and is married to another friend, a guy I used to do a lot of miniature skirmishes with at the Friendly Local Gaming Store. She’s a blogger and if memory serves we’d hooked up through that medium initially. So she left wrote on my wall and told me to save her some cake. This is not uncommon; I’ve written this myself on other walls in jest, knowing that the possibility of actually getting any cake, even via the wonders of expedited shipping, were nil.

That was her mistake, for as-of-late I am a man of action. I wrote back that we should hook up later in the afternoon at the aforementioned FLGS. She was game, figuring her husband and I could spend some time talking gaming shop, and she could eat cake. So after dinner, we packed up the three remaining pieces of cake and headed out.

The look on her face was priceless, a mixture of unhinged reticence and bafflement. And she ate her some cake, by golly. Another piece went to my old GM Steve, who also sent me a note on Facebook, and we let the gamers in the back room roll d100s for the last piece, a corner monstrosity the size of a brick. The nice thing about cake is it doesn’t leave a stain on your character sheet.

Cake with friends, old and new. That’s my kind of birthday . . .

As I write this article, it is hard to believe that it has been ten years since I gave my heart and

As I write this article, it is hard to believe that it has been ten years since I gave my heart and life to Jesus Christ. I wish I could recall each and every detail to the letter. There are those times in my life now when I am reflecting, praying, and just spending quiet time with God that I believe He gives me the grace of recall to ‘relive’ so to speak, those key moments in my walk with Him. Can I tell you that I have failed many times? Yes… that’s right, failed. I thought when you met Jesus that everything got easy, happily ever after… etc.! Not complaining a bit here so please don’t misunderstand, I just really had a big reality check coming after I was born again and began to serve the Lord. The first thing I figured out is that the enemy of my soul was extremely ticked that I would not be serving him or his little earthly kingdom anymore and that I would not be falling for the same old tricks I had experienced the first 34 years of my life. But perhaps the best thing that I discerned about my walk with Jesus early on, was that I would be advancing constantly if I kept my life centered around Him and that the Bible talked about it specifically all throughout scripture. “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, [even] as by the Spirit of the Lord. (2 Corinthians 3:18) Then He also says: “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 4:6).

So many things have happened in 10 years it is hard to put it all in this writing. I will tell you that at the moment, I am thankful to have been called into the Gospel ministry, ordained as a Pastor, and currently serving the Lord as a full time evangelist. Now, if you had told me that 10 years ago, I would have gotten a real good laugh and told you to take a hike! The funny thing is, my Pastor at the time, and the man who baptized me, said that at my baptism: “I believe this one is going to be a preacher!”, he said. Guess what, before I was dunked, you guessed it, I laughed! “Out Loud” as we say in our text messages now! Unbelievable. In 34 years on earth, I had digested, been trained, thought a lot like, and acted in many ways still, much like the world. That all changed. I went from knowing Jesus and sticking my plans before Him in my prayer time in the beginning and asking Him to bless them; to putting myself before Jesus and asking Him to give me His plan for my life! Now that seemed backwards to me at the time but once I got that in order, things began to open up. I was like a guy riding in the passenger seat of your car and every time you went to make a left, I would grab the wheel and snatch it back to the right! Yes, tug of war with God is a losing proposition! Praise the Lord. It ended quick…

So many times I’ve questioned certain circumstances, and things that I just could not understand. A many a time during trials, I just wanted to give up. I’ve been lied to more times than I can count by the enemy. Been accused of everything in the book by him. I’ve been robbed twice literally, and the other times I cannot even count as I have had to learn my spiritual lessons many times the hard way through trial and error. I have seen the end of my visible means of income go away, only to find that at the end of that measly provision from the world, Jesus Christ had such a better yoke for me to get under after I was freed from all the other trash that wanted to cling to my life. You know those words: “for whom the Son sets free, is FREE INDEED!” I can testify. They are true. With a huge exclamation point. I AM FREE.

In 2001, early in the year, God had set it up for me to go to work for author and speaker John C. Maxwell in his Atlanta office at The Injoy Group. I was set to move on April 1st and had rented my moving truck, accepted the position, and made all the necessary arrangements except for signing a lease which I was to do during my first week of work in Atlanta and then return to Americus to retrieve my things to relocate. When I began to shop for apartments, I realized that the rent would be triple what I was paying in Americus and that I would be picking up that tab on a salary that was equal to my base salary where I left 2 months earlier. No way! Impossible. I could not see it. I was to report to work for my first day at Injoy the following morning and I just could not sleep. I got up at midnight at my friend’s house, packed my suitcase, and drove home 3 hours with no radio playing. I prayed all the way home. I have never in all my years driven to the convenience store even, without having some form of music playing in my car. It’s just not like me. But I was scared, frustrated, confused, and any other adjective you want to use to describe an impossible situation. But I knew the God of the possible now, and that was the difference I was counting on. We talked…. long… serious… He was probably chuckling at my fear a little bit, I’m guessing it was something like this if I know His word correctly: “Is anything too hard for Me Mike?” Ah… no Lord. I read that somewhere. The next morning I called Injoy and asked to speak to my new boss, Mark Cole. Now it was about 15 minutes to 8 and I was supposed to be there at 8:30. I wanted to try to call early enough so that he would know that I was genuinely concerned and not just being flippant about the situation. I explained my problem. Mark said: “is that it?” LOL now at this point I was about to fall out! I said yes that’s it. (Mark) : “So let me get this straight Mike, you are just needing $9000.00 more so that you can cover your increased rent and utilities and you can come and work with us?” Yes I said, that’s it. (Mark) “Can you hold for a moment?” Sure…. I held alright.. I was sitting there thinking, OK, unpack the car, get some sleep (I had not been to bed all night) and get up and go job hunting that day. Surely I had just ‘missed the Lord on this one!’ I thought. Mark came back on the phone: “Done. What else you need?” I couldn’t believe it. 17 years I had been in sales, I had trained salespeople on the presentation, how to close, how to promote yourself and your ideas, how to get the agreement, none of that EVER worked this well, this fast!!! $9000.00 in 3 minutes! Fastest $9000.00 I ever made! He then asked me if I could just be at work on Monday morning and we could get everything set up for me to move from there… I said sure. One more crack in my unbelief! Wish it would just go ahead and crumble, it is a killer to a believer. And God has been carrying me from one Glory to the next Glory to the next Glory to the next. All because of Grace. You see, when God says something is going to happen, it happens.

So let me wrap this up for ya real quick. I gave my life to Jesus at 3: 28 in the afternoon of October the 28th, 1999. My Pastor and friend, Hugh DeLoach told me then, that my life would never be the same! I have to laugh big today. Big because I heard him that day, and I must say I even believed him that day. But never in a million years did I believe the past 10 years would have been so packed full of every kind of blessing, trial, temptation, difficult circumstance, hardship, frustration, joy, laughter, and tear soaked days, all to wind up writing to you that Jesus Christ has changed my life for His Glory. And I will continue to ride from Glory to Glory with the master.. as the scripture says: “on the high places of the earth.” I’ve taken ownership of a lot of scripture in 10 years time and I still have a long, long way to go when it comes to committing the Word of God to memory, but this verse is just my battle cry and anthem as I go through life now day to day: “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, before I can come to God, I must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that do diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6). So here’s my exhortation to you… become a God chaser.. whatever it takes for you to find the will of God, do it. Then spend the rest of your life doing what you find out. You’ll never be the same. In Jesus Name.

Godspeed….

I am blessed to have my parents visiting Waco to celebrate with my amazing wife and wonderful son! On the docket today is, well, very little until my wife gets off work. Then it’s going out to eat supper, gifts, and a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins. Yummy! And after that is a bottle of TUMS to wash it all down! Life is good!

Denny,

I wanted to make this post because I realized I had not caught up reading a hubber whose work I admired so. I clicked on one of your topics that was of specific interest to me because of what I deal with on a daily basis. Coping–and that is trying to emerge from an abusive pattern I have found myself in since childhood. It is hard. When some one says to you ‘oh you have so much to live for, or so much to look forward to’ or just ‘get over’ it, in repetition, those are only fallen words, when that individual did not have to walk in my shoes. I never made it a habit to say to someone, ‘things will get better’. Oftentimes, it does not. But what I have come to realize–you have to want to be better. And that you have to practice getting better. I am. I am trying. It hurts, but I will make it. My still being here still is so far–so good.

Anyway, Denny, you wrote a hub some time ago, for my birthday. And I am just now reading it. I just wanted you to know, Denny, that I really needed to see that today. I have been down, and feeling mighty bad today. I was trying to find something positive to read. Then I found your hub. I just want you do know, Denny–that made me feel as if the sun parted the clouds for me on this day, and I know that I must continue to want to do my very best and continue to want to carry on.

Thank you, Denny. I want the world to know that I appreciated your hub, very much.

Eternally grateful,

Throughout the course of my entire life, timing has played a crucial, major role. Usually a negative

Throughout the course of my entire life, timing has played a crucial, major role. Usually a negative one– whether with falling in love, experiencing tragedies on days intended for celebration, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or missing out on huge opportunities because of what are, honestly, minimal snags in my life’s fabric.

My birthday is an especially difficult time for me. For over a decade, some of the worst events of my life have occurred on or very near to the day I was born. It began on one specifically life-altering Friday in 1995, and over the next twelve years– as Life continually chose October 6th as a focal point for my personal disasters– became a time I would truly fear. Avoid. And eventually, hate. Family tragedies, deaths, heart attacks, natural disasters, accidents, discovering truths I hated to accept– anything, it seemed, that could go wrong was going to. And because I came to expect it, I also became a catalyst for Murphy’s Law.

Then, three years ago: nothing happened. I was shocked, a little concerned, and wary for the next month. When it appeared the “curse” had lifted, I felt disoriented. I had become such a negative person, and had centered that negativity around myself, believing that most of the time, my birthday was bad luck because I deserved it to be. Maybe I was working out some karma, or paying the price for an accidentally shattered mirror from years ago. I depended on negativity so much to prove me right (the world is horrid, people are awful, I can’t trust anyone) that I had done nothing short of fold myself inside-out and started walking backwards and blind through a world that really wasn’t all that bad. I was just too self-centered to see it.

The next year, still nothing. I went out with friends, had a few drinks, received some lovely presents, and for once started to think this would continue, this road to positivity, this renewal of faith. Over the past year especially, I have started to really try to dust off the cobwebs of pessimism and accept the world for what it really is, and not just for what I can find in it to support my apocalyptic presumptions.

That is, until a few days ago.

This time around, I didn’t even recognize it. Didn’t realize what I was doing until it blew up in my face. That fear of this time, despite my intentions and despite the two-year break, has become such an intrinsic part of who I am that I unwittingly sabotaged myself. For a week now, my positivity has been cracking. I’ve gotten more and more sarcastic, dramatic, angry, irritable, and expectant of disappointment, without even managing to step away and connect it to the timing. And lo and behold, outside of what I can physically control in my life, parts of my world are starting to falter. Old demons are reappearing out of nowhere, and what I’d hoped were long-forgotten worries are creeping their way back up through my spine, my head, and out through my mouth. Frankly, it’s terrifying. Because although the repercussions of my past antagonism left scars that made me so much stronger (I was overall a very, very weak person for a long time, and still am in certain ways), I’m simply not sure that I can do this again. I don’t think I have the strength, the patience, the endurance, or even the courage to face it. Nor do I believe that the people who faced it head on with me the first time will have the tenacity or even the desire to hold me up this time. And that lack of hope, of belief in my own resilience or my own worth to others, is itself a renewed anxiety.

I know that this is a turning point. I can feel it everywhere, and I’m clinging to nothing but shreds of the validity and light that only days ago were becoming so apparent. This isn’t anyone else’s fault, responsibility, choice, or battle to fight– and I can only beg, to whatever or whoever will listen, for there to be something left behind me when I finally find the strength to turn around.

Old habits die hard.

My favorite month of the entire year! Halloween is my Christmas! I absolutely love Halloween. I love

My favorite month of the entire year! Halloween is my Christmas! I absolutely love Halloween. I love getting dressed up and gacked up in my gory best. I will be hosting a Halloween Horror Night at my abode the weekend before Halloween and of course will be attending a Halloween Event on the 31st, yet to be determind. There is a shitload of horror films coming out this month on DVD but just a spattering of flicks showing up at theatres. There are a few titles on October’s list I’ve already seen, and every single one is highly recommended! Also, this month is The Vancouver International Film Festival, October 1st to 16th. I will be attending only two films, ‘ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction’ and ‘Antichrist’. The Dungeon will be featuring it’s usual array of reviews, trailers and musings on the genre and lot’s of nifty Halloween themed crap. In fact, I’ve got so much stuff for you that I will be posting something EVERY SINGLE DAY for the entire month of October! Yep, you read that right folks! Every Single Day!

Cheers,
Goregirl

PS: I wanted to make a quick mention of a DVD release I failed to note in my September Horror Happenings.

The Haunted World of El Superbeasto
Based upon the comic from Rob Zombie, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto is Rob’s new film in animation, following the adventures of El Superbeasto and his sexy, sultry sidekick and sister Suzi X. This one came out on September 22nd.
Directed By: Rob Zombie
Starring: Rosario Dawson, Danny Trejo, Sheri Moon Zombie, Paul Giamatti, Clint Howard, Cassandra Peterson, Dee Wallace, Tura Satana, Geoffrey Lewis
Goregirl’s Consensus: It’s animated, it’s horror and its Rob Zombie. This one is a definite must see!

Please note, the below dates are for Canadian releases only.

OCTOBER 2

Zombieland (in theatres)
The horror comedy Zombieland, focuses on two men who have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. Columbus is a big wuss — but when you’re afraid of being eaten by zombies, fear can keep you alive. Tallahassee is an AK-toting, zombie-slaying’ bad ass whose single determination is to get the last Twinkie on earth. As they join forces with Wichita and Little Rock, who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem, they will have to determine which is worse: relying on each other or succumbing to the zombies.
Directed By: Ruben Fleischer
Starring: Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, Amber Heard, Bill Murray, Derek Graf
Goregirl’s Consensus: It’s a comedy horror with zombies, Woody Harrelson and some pretty cool looking makeup. A must see…even at theatre price!

OCTOBER 6

Trick ‘R Treat
The doorbell rings, the cry goes out: Trick ’R Treat! But, wait. What’s actually going on during this ghostly All Hallows Eve? Something eerie and unexpected. Something splattered and spooky. Something that brings ghouls, vampires and werewolves into the night. Answer the door – a shocking surprise awaits.
Directed By: Michael Dougherty
Starring: Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Dylan Baker, Leslie Bibb, Quinn Lord, Rochelle Aytes, Tahmoh Penikett, Moneca Delain, Lauren Lee Smith, Britt McKillip
Goregirl’s Consensus: I seen a trailer for this one well over a year ago and have been looking forward to seeing it. Looks like fun and its getting some good reviews. Count me in. A must see.

How to Be a Serial Killer
HOW TO BE A SERIAL KILLER pokes fun at the self-help literature industry and motivational speakers in general. There are so many ways to get off track while pursuing the perfect life, and an even greater number of pop-psychologists and gurus out there to lead the masses astray. Mike Wilson has found the perfect method of getting your life back on track and achieving a meaningful existence. Mike teaches his method in an exciting seminar series: How To Be A Serial Killer. Mike tells all of his students: “You have what it takes, you just have to pull the trigger on the life you deserve.” Students rave about Mike’s depth of knowledge on the subject of serial killing and his endless enthusiasm and zest for life. One student described Mike as “a tasty smoothy made from a little bit of Charles Manson, some Tony Robbins, and a sprinkle of the messianic charisma of Jesus.” Mike administers his first one-on-one tutorial when he recruits a lost soul named Bart to be his pupil in the art of serial killing. Mike’s 10-lesson program includes weaponry, corpse disposal, keeping things from loved ones, and many other pearls. As Mike begins to teach Bart more and more about the ways of successful serial killing, it becomes more and more difficult to hide the truth from his girlfriend Abigail. And when she does inevitably find out, Mike’s life as serial killer gets thrown for a serious loop. Now, devastated by the loss of the love of his life, and with the cops on his tail for the first time in his life, Mike and Bart retreat to Mike’s desert hideout to make preparations for their escape to Mexico. But when a local sheriff’s department interrupts their preparations, all hell breaks loose, and Mike must learn a lesson of his own: how to deal with police standoffs and full-scale gunfights.
Directed By: Luke Ricci
Starring: Matthew Gray Gubler, Laura Regan, George Wyner, Mary Jo Catlett, Gonzalo Menendez, Dameon Clarke
Goregirl’s Consensus: I noticed my video store was going to be bringing in this title, and IMDB didn’t have a plot summary so I went straight to the source and checked out their official website. I am officially intrigued. A must see.

Carnivorous
An ancient serpent rises to terrorize a town.
Directed By: Amir Valinia
Starring: DMX, Wes Brown, Louis Herthum, Lauren Fain, Lisa Arnold, Debra Arnott, Derrick Denicola, Caleb Michaelson, David Pullman, Sheldon Robins, Tony Senzamici
Goregirl’s Consensus: Oh no, a giant snake film! Haven’t enjoyed many of those over the years. This straight to DVD flick stars DMX, also know as ‘Lockjaw: Rise of the Kulev Serpent’. Nothing drawing me in here. Pass.

Not Quite Hollywood
NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD is the wild, untold story of “OZPLOITATION” movies – a time when Australian cinema got its gear off and showed the world a full-frontal explosion of sex, violence, horror and foot-to-the-floor, full bore action! Jam packed full of outrageous anecdotes, lessons in maverick filmmaking and a genuine, infectious love of Australian movies, NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD is a fast moving journey through Aussie genre cinema of the 70s and early 80s – an unjustly forgotten cinematic era unashamedly packed full of boobs, pubes, tubes… and even a little kung fu.
Directed By: Mark Hartley
Starring: see review
Goregirl’s Consensus: Highly Recommended! Read my review here.

Seventh Moon
According to an ancient Chinese myth on the full moon of the seventh lunar month the gates of hell open and the dead are freed to roam among the living. While honeymooning in China, a young couple takes part in a sacred event that honors these spirits. As night falls, their tour guide abandons them in a desolate field. Now what they thought was a joke is becoming far too real as they fight to survive the night of the SEVENTH MOON.
Directed By: Eduardo Sanchez
Starring: Amy Smart, Dennis Chan, Tim Chiou
Goregirl’s Consensus: I like the premise and I loved Sanchez’s films Blair Witch Project and Altered. A must see!

Children of the Corn (remake)
Burton and Vicki are an unhappily married couple that are making their way across the country when a freak accident leaves them stranded in the middle of a corn field. They soon learn that this is no typical cornfield and there is something different about the children of Gatlin. Now Burton and Vicki must make their escape before they become sacrifices to He Who Walks Behind the Rows.
Directed By: Daniel Newman
Starring: David Anders, Kandyse McClure, Preston Bailey, Ryan Bertroche, Jake White, Austin Dreher, Alexa Nikolas, Paul Butler, Isabelle Fuhrman
Goregirl’s Consensus: Another remake. Ugh. Won’t pay new release price and I am unlikely to bother with this one even as a seven day rental. Pass.

Dark Country
Two honeymooners rescue a mysterious car crash survivor in the Las Vegas desert. But their decision to save the man becomes increasingly regrettable when he turns on them, forcing the newlyweds to do the unthinkable. In a blur of paranormal chaos, the couple must take drastic measures to cover up their actions from the local police, ultimately leading each character to an inescapable fate.
Directed By: Thomas Jane
Starring: Ron Perlman, Thomas Jane, Lauren German, Chris Browning, Rene Mousseux, Con Schell, Nikki Kelly, Aynn Kirby, Jonathan Lund
Goregirl’s Consensus: Interesting…maybe. It’s listed as a mystery/thriller but with the paranormal angle in there I’m going to squeeze it in. I like Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman. A definite maybe.

The Seamstress
While searching for her missing father, Allie and her friends are dragged into a living nightmare courtesy of the Seamstress, a local legend who terrorizes the community after her brutal death at the hands of bloodthirsty locals. Now armed with her sewing needles and a diabolical imagination, she won’t stop until the last drop of blood is sewn.
Directed By: Jesse James Miller
Starring: Lance Henriksen, Kailin See, David Kopp, James Kirk, Lara Gilchrist, Sarah Mutch, Richard Stroh, Kevin McNulty, David Nykl, Andee Frizzell
Goregirl’s Consensus: How do you sew a drop of blood? The premise is somewhat interesting though and it’s filmed right here in beautiful British Columbia. It’s Canadian, so what the hell, we’ll make it a must see.

The Thaw
When a renowned environmental advocate, Dr. David Kruipen, discovers the carcass of a woolly mammoth in a polar ice cap, he leads a team of four bright ecology students in a research mission at a remote Arctic station. The group uncovers information beyond their wildest dreams…and nightmares when a prehistoric parasite revives and searches for a new warm-blooded host. Now infected, the unsuspecting students are forced to choose between a quarantine that will result in their death or a global epidemic.
Directed By: Mark A. Lewis
Starring: Val Kilmer, Aaron Ashmore, Martha MacIsaac, Kyle Schmid, Steph Song, Viv Leacock, Anne Marie DeLuise, Alejandro Rae, Brad Dryborough, Sebastian Gacki
Goregirl’s Consensus: I don’t know. The plot doesn’t really move me but it doesn’t put me off either. A definite maybe.

Staunton Hill
When a group of hikers take off for a weekend of fun in a remote mountatin region they stumble upon the Staunton family, a diabolical group that will stop at nothing to get rid of the new “trespassers”.
Directed By: G. Cameron Romero
Starring: Kathy Lamkin, Cristen Coppen, David Rountree, Kiko Ellsworth, Christine Carlo, Paula Rhodes, Charlie Bodin, B.J. Hendricks, Cooper Huckabee, Sherry Weston
Goregirl’s Consensus: Not a terribly original sounding plot, but the fact that he is the son of George Romero definitely intrigues me. I’ll try not to judge too harshly, but I have to admit I’m hoping the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. A must see.

Offspring
Survivors of a feral flesh-eating clan are chowing their way through the locals. Amy Halbard and Claire Carey strive to survive their abduction by the cannibals and save their children. A subplot involving Claire’s despicable husband, Steven, gives an opportunity to cleverly compare predatory civilized folk to the appetite-driven primitives.
Directed By: Andrew van den Houten
Starring: Amy Hargreaves, Art Hindle, Erick Kastel, Andrew Elvis Miller, Taylor John Piedmonte, Ahna Tessler and Rachel White
Goregirl’s Consensus: I like the premise and I am digging the trailer. A must see.

OCTOBER 13

Happy Birthday To Me (reissue)
After losing her memory in a freak accident, Anderson returns to her school and an exclusive club. Days before her birthday the club members are gruesomely murdered. Anchor Bay’s release will have the corrected music score and the cover art we know and love is back in tact.
Directed By: J. Lee Thompson
Starring: Melissa Sue Anderson, Glenn Ford, Matt Craven
Goregirl’s Consensus: A classic! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this one. I can still recall some of the awesome original kills though. A must see!

iMurders
A mysterious love triangle leads to a tragic shooting. Months later, eight members of a myspace chat room are being gruesomely murdered in the privacy of their own homes. What is the connection?
Directed By: Robbie Bryan
Starring: Gabrielle Anwar, William Forsythe, Tony Todd, Frank Grillo, Terri Colombino, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Charles Durning, Billy Dee Williams, Margaret Colin
Goregirl’s Consensus: I have a bit of a bad taste in my mouth about feardotcom and a couple other “internet related” horror flicks and I am a little worried about this “where are they now” cast. Hmmmm. Innocent until proven guilty. A definite maybe.

Drag Me to Hell
Christine Brown is an ambitious L.A. loan officer with a charming boyfriend, professor Clay Dalton. Life is good until the mysterious Mrs. Ganush arrives at the bank to beg for an extension on her home loan. Should Christine follow her instincts and give the old woman a break? Or should she deny the extension to impress her boss, Mr. Jacks, and get a leg-up on a promotion? Christine fatefully chooses the latter, shaming Mrs. Ganush and dispossessing her of her home. In
retaliation, the old woman places the powerful curse of the Lamia on Christine, transforming her life into a living hell. Haunted by an evil spirit and misunderstood by a skeptical boyfriend, she seeks the aid of seer Rham Jas to save her soul from eternal damnation.
Directed By: Sam Raimi
Starring: Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Lorna Raver, Dileep Rao, David Paymer, Adriana Barraza, Chelcie Ross
Goregirl’s Consensus: Highly Recommended! Read my review here.

Nightmare
The morning after a wild party, a young film student awakens in the arms of a mysterious actress. Unsure where they are, the two are startled to find a video camera at the foot of the bed aimed at them. Their apprehension turns to terror as they see themselves on screen gleefully committing a savage murder in the room they’ve just slept in.
Directed By: Dylan Bank
Starring: J. Bloomrosen, Jolan Boockvor, Jason Scott Campbell, Jennifer Carta, Richard Cohen, Raymond Russell Hamlin
Goregirl’s Consensus: Note to the director, not a good film title! When I put this into IMDB a billion things came up! An interesting premise. I could be interested. A definite maybe.

Baseline Killer
Inspired by the streak of murders committed along Baseline Ave in Arizona during 2006 and 2007.
Directed By: Ulli Lommel
Starring: Victoria Ullmann, Pia Pownall, Jaquelyn Aurora, Lauren Carter, Jana L. Laurin, Jon E. Nimetz, Devex Oozer, Jason Hurrell, Nola Roeper, Caitie Uhlmann, Bud Watson
Goregirl’s Consensus: Lommel has directed a whole lot of shitty straight to DVD horror releases and I will no longer give even one penny of my hard earned dollars to this man. Pass.

OCTOBER 16

The Stepfather (in theatres)
Michael returns home from military school to find his mother happily in love and living with her new boyfriend. As the two men get to know each other, he becomes more and more suspicious of the man who is always there with a helpful hand.
Directed By: Nelson McCormick
Starring: Dylan Walsh, Sela Ward, Penn Badgley, Amber Heard, Sherry Stringfield, Paige Turco, Jon Tenney, Nancy Linehan Charles, Marcuis Harris
Goregirl’s Consensus: I won’t pay theatre price to see a remake. A possible new release rental, but will probably wait for it to go to the seven day wall. Pass.

OCTOBER 20

Dead Snow
A ski vacation turns horrific for a group of medical students, as they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies.
Directed By: Tommy Wirkola
Starring: Vegar Hoel, Stig Frode Henriksen, Charlotte Frogner, Lasse Valdal, Evy Elise Kasseth Røsten, Jeppe Laursen, Jenny Skavlan, Ane Dahl Torp, Bjorn Sundquist, Orjan Gamst
Goregirl’s Consensus: Highly Recommended! Read my review here.

Last of the Living
A highly contagious virus is spreading throughout the land. With one bite, it’s only hours before victims will turn into zombies and hunt for human flesh. Morgan, Ash, and Johnny might just be the only humans left, but they don’t seem to mind and find enjoyment lounging around in their underwear living in vacant homes. When they stumble upon a hot girl who just may have a cure, the three decide it’s finally time to step up to the plate and save the world – and the girl. Now the only hope for survival lies in their hands.
Directed By: Logan McMillan
Starring: Morgan Williams, Robert Faith, Mark Hadlow, Emily Paddon-Brown, Ashleigh Southam
Goregirl’s Consensus: The director shot 90% of the film for $5,000, and after posting a trailer on Youtube got a further $40k USD as a pre-sales deal. It’s a horror comedy with zombies and hails from New Zealand. Interesting. So many zombie films and this one is not getting a lot of rave reviews. A definite maybe.

Left Bank
Marie’s world falls apart when she collapses during the qualifying heat for the European track championships. Marie decides to move in with her boyfriend Bobby, but soon uncovers the secrets of the building, centering around the disappearance of the last inhabitant.
Directed By: Pieter Van Hees
Starring: Eline Kuppens, Matthias Schoenaerts, Sien Eggers, Marilou Mermans, Frank Vercruyssen, Robbie Cleiren, Ruth Becquart, Tinneke Boonen, Sara De Bosschere
Goregirl’s Consensus: Can’t really get a vibe from that plot summary. I did read a couple reviews of this film that definitely upped my curiosity. It’s Belgium origins seal the deal. I’m in. A must see.

Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead
It’s hunting season in the deep back woods for Three Finger and his family of hideously deformed inbred cannibal hillbillies! The fight for survival is futile and each successive killing is more gruesome than the last as the cannibals relentlessly stalk a group of attractive young hikers and a group of escaped convicts after their bus crashes on a remote country road.
Directed By: Declan O’Brien
Starring: Tom Frederic, Janet Montgomery, Tamer Hassan, Gil Kolirin, Tom McKay, Christian Contreras, Jack Curran, Chucky Venice, Emma Cliffford, Mike Straub, Bill Moody
Goregirl’s Consensus: Didn’t think much of the original, never felt compelled to see part two and sure as hell won’t be renting part 3. Pass.

Blood: The Last Vampire
Demons have infested Earth. And only one warrior stands between the dark and the light: Saya, a half-human, half-vampire samurai who preys on those who feast on human blood. Joining forces with the shadowy society known as the Council, Saya is dispatched to an American military base, where an intense series of swordfights leads her to the deadliest vampire of all. And now after 400 years, Saya’s greatest hunt is about to begin.
Directed By: Chris Nahon
Starring: Gianna Jun, Alison Miller, Liam Cunningham, JJ Feild, Koyuki, Larry Lamb, Andrew Pleavin, Michael Byrne, Colin Salmon, Masiela Lusha, Ailish O’Connor
Goregirl’s Consensus: Not hearing a lot of positive reviews about this one and it sounds like there is a lack of action and violence. I find Asian horror irresistable though and will probably see this one anyway. A definite maybe.

Children, The
A family anticipates a Christmas filled with sledding, laughter and hot cocoa as they head to their vacation home in the secluded backcountry. The holiday cheer takes a turn for the worse after a mysterious flu-like virus sweeps through the kids, and one by one the children become deadly. Now, amidst suspicion, mayhem and murder, the parents must fight for survival against their own twisted offspring.
Directed By: Tom Shankland
Starring: Eva Birthistle, Stephen Campbell Moore, Jeremy Sheffield, Rachel Shelley, Hannah Tointon, Raffiella Brooks, Jake Hathaway, William Howes, Eva Sayer
Goregirl’s Consensus: Highly Recommended! Read my review here.

OCTOBER 23

Saw VI (in theatres)
Special Agent Strahm is dead, and Detective Hoffman has emerged as the unchallenged successor to Jigsaw’s legacy. However, when the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw’s grand scheme is finally understood.
Directed By: Kevin Greutert
Starring: Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Shawnee Smith, Betsy Russell, Peter Outerbridge, Larissa Gomes, Mark Rolston, Tanedra Howard
Goregirl’s Consensus: I would not pay to see this in theatres, and after the last sequel I won’t even pay new release rental price. I am officially tired of this series. Pass.

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant (in theatres)
A young boy named Darren Shan meets a mysterious man at a freak show who turns out to be a Vampire. After a series of events Darren must leave his normal life and go on the road with the Cirque Du Freak and become a Vampire.
Directed By: Paul Weitz
Starring: John C. Reilly, Josh Hutcherson, Chris Massoglia, Jessica Carlson, Michael Cerveris, Ray Stevenson, Patrick Fugit, Daniel Newman, Morgan Saylor, Don McManus, Colleen Camp, Ken Watanabe, Salma Hayek, Orlando Jones, Willem Dafoe, Jane Krakowski
Goregirl’s Consensus: Damn Right! Great cast and intriguing story! Will definitely make a trip to the theatre for this one! A Must see!

It’s my birthday today! Today’s daily Alice is in honor of yours truly, and it’s a weird one: Alice Cooper sings “The Lady is a Tramp”, then trashes the stage. This is from “Good To See You Again, Alice Cooper”, which appears to be one of those weird cocaine-fueled rock ‘n’ roll movies that multiplied like bunnies in the ’70s after “Tommy” hit big (see also: epic debacle “Sgt Pepper’s: The Movie”, featuring the Bee Gees, Peter Frampton, and, yes, Alice Cooper – he was in a lot of these). The movie apparently has some staged plotline bits like this one, along with a bunch of footage from the “Billion Dollar Babies” tour. For all you purists out there, this is indeed the Alice Cooper band.

The last two or three minutes are kinda boring, but the beginning is so priceless it’s worth it. Enjoy.
