Okay, so few weeks ago, in my painting class we were assigned to paint something scary. Something scary enough to scare a 10 year old. He told us to look into your past, and find what scared you. Ever since I was little, I was scared of the easter bunny, so, that’s what I painted! .. an evil easter bunny!

I used pencil and tombow abt 837 marker to sketch and create a red under tone.
Then I started painting with golden acrylics, after letting it dry, I used more tombow marker and prisma colored pencil to create a dramatic effect!

~ WHAT DID I DO FOR EARTH DAY? NOTHING.. though I am planning on getting some real (incandescent) lightbulbs to replace the short-lived mercury-filled bulbs of evil. I want to see again, and not by watery variously coloured politically-correct bulbs. And where are the cheap LED bulbs yet? ~

~ LIBERALS ARE the ultimate idea-people. Ideas exist– people, reality, evidence, and outcomes are fuzzy. ‘Choice’? More real than actual unborn children. ‘Feminism’? You can go on listing the examples, but it’s the key to sorting out how the “mean-well” Leftist cadres roll.

It accounts for their freakish behaviour in response to Jihad: the current behaviour of the new American Administration; and whatever’s up in Eurostan and Britain. If it doesn’t compute, it doesn’t exist or figure into the master-theory. It is the ultimate in blind faith: ideology uber alles. That’s why the leftiacs are such fine exemplars of the law of unintended consequences. When unreaity stumbles over reality, “But I never meant that” is sure to follow. Add to that pure cowardice, a tendency to bullying, and a denial of reality, even if it means stepping over and looking the other way when suffering, contradiction, and real humans are involved. ~

~ LET US REMEMBER that 50%+ of Muslim people in Western countries are NOT hot for Jihad, or supportive of it– depending on area and generation, it may be a very tiny minority. We must take individuals on their own terms, and be winsome advocates for a responsible freedom, within the terms of the thought, law, and faith of the West, and not merely pop culture, permissiveness, or individuality uber alles. As I ponder it, many of the ‘best’ folks in terms of duty & rights, and patriotism and public responsibility are precisely people of Judeo-Christian faith. We forget that whatever their faults and foibles, past generations were raised within that faith and understanding of self and other. As faith recedes from the public sphere, anomalies like Perez Hilton and Richard Warman are one form of the confusion we find ourselves in.

In any case, we must– to our immigrants or barbarians within, hold forth the best of what we are, and have been. Too often conservatives leave the public sphere to activists and group-ideology, and then complain when said radicals come knocking at the door of church, school, and legislature. If we will not be present, and patient, and confident of our cause– then why should our radicals, or those entering our system.

~ WHILE THE SLIPPERY-SLOPE argument is sometimes wrong in particular, it’s often right in general. The revolutionaries who seek to “break on through to the other side” of every received good custom and practice in the interests of their own programme like to pooh-pooh the slippery slope precisely because it makes people look to the past and present and future aspects of social engineering– “that has led to this and could well lead to that”. No busy-body likes to have the entire scheme exposed at once, and so those who warn of pesky logical consequences are smeared as extremists and nay-sayers or changeophobes. Logic? Precedent? Ancient custom and law? BIGOT!

So in the last semi-public and highly stage-managed Canucki debate over so-called same-sex marriage, those who warned that– logically– the union of one adult with another might well lead to calls for other arrangements: one adult with several others; one relative with another; whatever someone might desire. Polygamy; polygyny; incest; or– in the acceptable suburban fashion, serial monogamy via easy divorce. Monogamy is the target, and lots of people are shooting at it.

For the pre-Christian and Christian West, the norm has been male-female monogamy. Even the early tribal polygamy of Israel is seen in the light of Adam and Eve, and later Hebrew practice; amongst the Greek Gods, Zeus’ sister/ wife Hera is jealous of his various sexual adventures; the custom of Greece and Rome was monogamy, even if lust or hypocrisy and divorce did not always live up to the ideal. From there, Europe continued in the norm; only Islam officially allowed the retrograde and economically enfeebling practice of polygamy and concubinage, following on the practices of their founding prophet.

It’s only logical that as that pattern of stable, child-centred, long-term union has gone by the board in the past 2 generations especially that other ’sexual minorities’ should demand their freedoms, too. Pansexualism allows no logical restrictions or standards, or infringement of the individual right of the soveriegn self to self-define sexually, and in every other way.

Of course, this is part of the soft-fascist programme over all, for the goal is to undermine all attachments aside from the all-embracing (totalitarian) state as mother and father. Infant kindergarten & day care & school until young adulthood; a one-sided ideological formation; out to work to funnel taxes into the government to fund more social programmes and engineering and state uber alles.

That divorcers and gays and polygamists and pan-sexualists are all serving to prevent and erase the kinds of more normal families that have served civilization for thousands of years, the same sorts of families that formed them, and are aiding and abetting the Leviathan nanny-state is a tragic irony. They are, in that sense, useful idiots, and other forms of all-powerful political systems have outlawed and even murdered those who openly choose same-sex behaviour. The current cultural trend is otherwise, but undermining everything in the interests of he moment is another very real slippery slope that can create a regime which kills freedom, choice, and individuality.

Leviathan– expertocracy and an all-powerful government replacing God– is not a good thing, even when it allows us our sins and pleasures and preferences. We must ask if it is the very best which we have received, renewed and improved, and passed on to future generations for their good, and after them, too.

There is no such thing as a consequence-free life, or a world not fashioned out of what previous generations have built, or torn apart. We are sowing the wind, and the whirldwind shall follow; we are sowing debt; and poverty shall arise; we are sowing anarchy, and chaos will come.

The Devil, however, is a very pragmatical sort– he allows forbidden fruit and passing powers, if that means he can be sure of destruction, death, and disorder to follow. ~

He and others squandered over $100 million dollars trying to turn a Chicago school system into a socialist laboratory. He supports the medical murder of infants. He is an oath-breaker who encourages and wants to fund terrorism and anti-semitism and the death of Israel. He only likes truth as it suits him.

He blasphemously accepts the near messianic worship directed towards him. He loves and serves Leviathan: human power which deliberately excludes God. He is ashamed and opposes American’s Constitutional, legal, and religious heritage, though he has sworn solemn oaths to uphold them. The days ahead will be more of the same.

He is yet made in the image of God, and we must hope & pray that he will turn, or at least that God will take what ill he does and turn it into good. Further, we remember that there but for the grace of God goes any one of us. Though he would only call his fellow radical ideologues his brothers, he is my brother, and a fellwo sinner– and therein lies all the difference. His universe is small, and makes perfect sense: he is the main character therein, and we all players, perps, or tools. The real universe– and real people– are mysterious, complicated, and surprising.

I feel bad for him– not to excuse or justify him, but pity for his state: he needs prayer and psychiatric and spiritual and possibly medical/ pharmaceutical help. As POTUS, his scope for badness, incompetence, and general ill-doing has reached Bibilical proportions.

President Obama is a deeply broken/ bad man. This will end badly.

~ THE WORLD IS FIGURING OUT– at least for a moment– that the ordinary often isn’t. What about the ordinary?

A homely middle-aged church-going spinster from small-town Scotland, named Susan Boyle. She brought tears and cheers from a British Idol TV show, and is the latest thing in popular culture, for however long. God bless her and good luck to her, I say. She’s worth a thousand Paris or Lindsay or Fergie or slattern du jour, both in talent and inner qualities.

The tale of our cynical and snobbish age is told in the before and after faces watching Susan Boyle: of those who seen entirely ashamed of themselves unless they become ‘famous’ and attain real existence on our various glowing infotainment portals. John Pacheco writes:

“And she sang, and the rabble broke into cheering for they thought it was her amazing voice that stunned them. What the crowd didn’t realize however, as the tears were released in awe, was that they were witnessing a woman who was different from them in ways that they couldn’t fathom. They thought it was the sad contrast between their expectations of a homely woman’s abilities and a truly amazing voice. More than that happened I believe. I think the crowd glimpsed true beauty maybe for the first time, something they were blind to until she sang.”

Indeed, Susan Boyle has lived her life in service to God and her family; proud of herself and possessing real ability; yet not selling her soul for a mess of pottage along the way– such is the ‘ordinary’ soul as the world sees her, extraordinary as she is. Even if her voice was not such a gift, all the rest would still amaze and inspire. I’ve met hundreds like her in small towns, cities, villages and rural roads in my past work; and online, more ‘ordinary’ schleps blogging away without much fame or fortune for it, but still transforming the world and scooting around the ordinary channels of media, politics, or riches to do so.

That’s why, presumably, His High & Mightiness in the Oval Office did not even deign to speak to the outpouring of concern during the tea-parties across America this week– he’s an ordinary guy from humble means, and he wants to try and forget that ordinary people are the tax-payers and volunteers and parents and folk who make things go, who really matter, and who are the majority. That all men are created equal, however unequal the results may be, and are each imbued with a dignity and liberty and worth far above Mr. Obama’s machinations and communist longings for a world made perfect– by him, no matter the cost. You’ve been tea-bagged. You bin served.

So the snobs and better-thans of the media like Randy Richmond and Dan Rather and John Miller would instruct us to sit at their feet and lear the truth and who we are. Sorry– we already know: and insofar as you retail lies and smug superiority and other people’s right to tell us how to think and be, you lose the right to have us listen to you anymore, unless you wake up and remember your first calling, and that you are as one of us, whatever the world, your pride, or your profession may tell you.

Get over your damn’d selves.

E normal ca atunci când vin sărbători precum Crăciunul şi Paştele să dăm o mai mare atenţie curăţeniei. Ei bine, eu am cam chiulit anul acesta de la acest ritual, cauzată fiind lipsa mea de parţiale şi proiecte ce mi-au ocupat practic tot timpul. Însă în ultimele două zile pot zice că m-am implicat cât de cât. La partea mea preferată.

Nu ştiu cum se face, dar dacă mă apuc de curăţenie mă molipsesc şi cu o stare din aia gen mai-avem-nevoie-şi-de-asta? Şi arunc. Tot ce mi se pare că e inutil. Tot ce se tot acumulează în decursul anului. Lucruri de care cred că am nevoie, dar n-am. Cel mai amuzant e faptul că, în starea asta euforică în care arunc toate lucrurile pentru-că-am-supravieţuit-fără-ele-şi-până-acum-bine-mersi nu realizez că e posibil să-mi mai trebuiască altădată. De exemplu, am aruncat balsamul de buze, şi taman acum mi se usucă buzele de la vânt. Doar un exemplu.

Însă, pe cealaltă parte, e o teorie destul de ok. Devin oarecum mai senină, când văd mai mult spaţiu, mai multă odine. Şi aşa sunt cam obsedată de curăţenie. E un nou început, fresh start! Şi un motiv să-mi cumpăr un nou balsam de buze

Până una alta mă bucur de câteva zile libere. Nu simţeam că vine Paştele, însă acum că ştiu că sunt liberă până joi….hmm…parcă m-am răzgândit. Măcar să mă odihnesc cât de cât, să stau cu cei dragi, să ciocnim ouă roşii, să păpăm cozonac. Mai ales că e cald şi frumos afară. Şi să nu mai aud de facultate, lucrare de licenţă sau parţiale. Trei zile măcar!

Ce să vă urez? Şi aşa nimic original. Poi, că e la modă, să treacă iepuraşul şi pe la voi, şi să aveţi parte de lumină. În caz că vă regăseaţi în obscuritate. Total adevărat pentru mine. Happy Easter!(nah!, că sună mai bine, mai americăneşte şi fără alte conotaţii).

Maine o intind, o iau spre casa parinteasca, sa petrec Sarbatorile acasa.

O sa lipsesc pana miercuri sau chiar joi.

Last night as I waited for my train I saw lightning in the distance and was glad it seemed to be in the opposite direction to my house. I was wrong. As I walked the five minute walk from the train to my doorstep, the sky, which should have been black, was yellow from the constant flashes of lightning. I had my headphones on, but not even Rufus could distract me from the rumbling thunder, the brightness of the sky, or the tension in the air. I ran the last block and the heavens opened within a minute of me reaching my doorstep.

Dinner was Moroccan soup with falafels for dunking, which matched the humidity and sudden, pelting, deafening rain well. Dessert was Simnel cake, a quarter of which I have leftover from Easter. I made it to take to our family gathering on Sunday, and was really pleased, especially because it was my first attempt at a fruit cake.

For some reason I hadn’t heard of Simnel cake before this year. Delia says that “Simnel Cake was not originally baked at Easter but on Mothering Sunday as a kind of mid-Lent treat. Somehow or other it got postponed until the great feast of Easter itself.” Makes sense. The Simnel cake does seem to suit Easter very well, especially when we are already surrounded by so much chocolate (Simnel cake is full of fruit, therefore it is good for me, yes?). I think it may be a new tradition for me.

I got the recipe from Del Sol (a great site – I bet the cafe is lovely too), and only changed a couple of things – I exchanged the pecans for almonds and used glace ginger instead of candied, and mixed it in with the mixed fruit before soaking it in amaretti liquer. I also decided not to do the marzipan lattice, partly because it looked too fiddly, and because I left the top til the last minute. The Easter tradition is to top the cake with eleven balls of marzipan (to represent the eleven true apostles, and sometimes with a ball in the middle to represent Jesus), but to be honest I thought it looked a bit naff. As Kathryn Flett recently pointed out, that “what with being yellow and round, ‘Jesus’ and his ‘disciples’ tend to be reinterpreted as chickens.” Nuff said.

I think I like my way better. I cut a star out of the marzipan to reveal the icing underneath. I was so happy with the end result – Tasty and Pretty! Yay! I didn’t have any cream, so just used egg for the glaze.

I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of putting marzipan inside a cake before. I have some left over so next I think I’m going to try these.

Hi everyone, sorry for the lack of posts recently!

What with the beautiful weather, family coming to visit and having to use up loads of holiday days from last year or else I would lose them, I’ve simply not been getting much sewing done or anything else for that matter.  I’ve just been relaxing in the sun, the weather here has been absolutely amazing! I’ve also been eating too much good food and drinking too much good wine. 

But today was back to reality! I promis to have loads of new stuff to show you soon.

What else is new? Well, I’m still searching for an industrial type sewing machine. The normal household type of machine I am presently using is just not coping and has broken yet again!  This is the second time this year and we are only in April. The problem is that I don’t know anything about industrial machines…  So the decision will be difficult.  The second problem is, have you seen the prices of these things?!? Though I must admit that they are GREAT, I saw one in a shop that the sales man let me try out, wow!  It did the back and forth at the end on it’s own to lock the tread, then cut the thread all on it’s own too!!!  What luxury, but also time saving.  Anyway, I’ll keep you posted on that and let you know as soon as I’ve made a decision.

First and foremost, let me take this opportunity to say, HE IS RISEN!!!  I don’t care if it is late!  Happy Easter to everyone and I hope everyone of every faith had a grand weekend! 

This next article is from a very good friend of mine who lives in L.A.  His writing abilities are something I can only hope to aspire to, and his inquisitive style helped inspire me to take up the ole’ pen and pad myself.  His name is Dante and this post discusses his views on faith, a very apropos subject for the holiday.  I feel that the below post discusses topics that all Christians struggle with but tend to suppress or at least don’t openly discuss.  But we all struggle and know that we are far from perfect, far from normal, and far from composed in our lives.  We all question, we all falter, we all ponder the inequities of our lives and our actions.  And for all of you that do, I implore you to discuss this with others that you know you can confide in.  I am miserable about this myself and always find myself shying away from true discourse with other people.  Which is too bad, because I believe that interaction with other people and discussion is part of what we are put on this Earth to produce!

1. Bulan lalu untuk pertama kalinya gua lapor pajak disini. Tadinya sempet mikir apa mesti pake accountant secara gua buta sama sekali ama perpajakan disini, tapi ternyata bisa ngerjain sendiri pake bantuan software Turbotax dan bisa langsung submit online. Lumayanlah dapet tax return… buat nambah-nambahin bayaran DP. Gimana kalian yang di Indo dengan pengalamannya lapor SPT kemaren ini? Lancar-lancar semua?

2. Setelah setaunan gua selalu digunting rambutnya pake clipper ukuran 1, 2 bulan belakangan ini gua pake ukuran 2 karena gua merasa ukuran 1 itu terlalu pendek. Telat ya nyadarnya… Udah setaun baru ngeh kalo itu terlalu pendek!

3. Rekor nih, di tahun 2009 yang udah jalan 4 bulan ini, seinget gua, kita cuma ke mal 4 kali saja! Buat kita yang anak mal (biasa mah Sabtu Minggu pasti kudu ke mal), ini rekor yang luar biasa dong pastinya. Dan ternyata gua gak kangen-kangen amat lho ama mal. Dan tentunya ini berdampak bagus buat pengeluaran bulanan. Bisa gak ya kalo gak ke restoran? Huehehehe… Kayaknya belum sanggup dah…

4. Nonton Marley & Me dan ternyata bagus banget! Padahal gua baca bukunya gak sampe separoh udah nyerah… bosen abis! Lagian gua kan gak suka ama anjing, jadi gua gak pernah kepikir kok orang bisa segitu sayangnya ama binatang. Tapi ternyata surprisingly gua suka ama film ini. Bagus dan menyentuh. Walaupun ya tetep gak membuat gua jadi suka ama anjing sih…

5. Adegan di film Marley & Me yang diinget bener ama Andrew adalah pas tante dan om buka baju trus berenang (kalo malem sebelum tidur emang dia suka cerita-cerita apa yang dialami seharian, dan dia cuma cerita adegan ini pas nyeritain film Marley & Me)! Huaaaa… dari begitu banyak adegan tentang anjingnya, kenapa juga yang diinget ternyata pas bagian buka baju dan berenang doang?! Gelo gak sih… Untung gak keliatan apa-apa…

6. Nitip beli CD Rio Febrian (Aku Bertahan) ama Kerispatih (Tak Lekang Oleh Waktu). Gak sabar pengen cepet-cepet dengerin CD nya… Ada yang mau ngasih rekomendasi gak, CD Indo apa lagi yang enak-enak?

7. Asli gak tau mau milih apa pas Pemilu kemaren, jadi gua dengan terpaksa ya golput aja… Hehehe.

8. Tau gak, kalo disini tuh Jumat Agung gak libur? Tergantung kebijakan masing-masing perusahaan aja. Dan kantor gua cuma ngasih pulang setengah hari! Heran ya perasaan dimana-mana (Indo, Australi, Canada, dan negara-negara Eropa) semua pada libur dah!

9. Kemaren pas ke Gereja, gile ramenya ajubile. Biasalah orang-orang pada berbondong-bondong ke Gereja cuma pas Paskah ama Natal doang. Yang ada kita parkirnya jadi jauh banget. Trus jalan kaki dan harus nyebrang jalan yang gede banget. Karena lampu buat nyebrangnya gak ijo-ijo, begitu gua ngeliat lampu buat mobilnya merah, walaupun lampu buat nyebrangnya gak ijo, gua tetep nekad aja ngajak Esther ama Andrew nyebrang. Dan bener aja, pas kita masih di tengah-tengah jalan, ternyata lampu buat mobilnya udah ijo! Matek dah… Kita bener-bener di tengah gitu, mau balik juga gak bisa kan… Akhirnya ya tetep aja diterusin nyebrangnya. Huehehehe. Dan untungnya mobil-mobil yang jadi gak bisa jalan padahal udah ijo itu dengan sabarnya pada nunggu. Gak ada satupun yang nglakson atau maki-maki. Hehehe. Oh ya, happy Easter ya buat yang merayakan!

10. Duh April masih setengah bulan lagi ya… Gak sabar pengen cepet-cepet bulan Mei!

Neoumanist Association launched an Easter fundraising campaign to collect funds for 360 elderly served at the Day Center for elderly “Răsărit”, at the Center for permanent placement of elderly “Spectru” and Home Care project. The public campaign was run during April, 1 – April, 18 2009 in the town of Straseni and Chişinău. The messages of the fundraising campaign were “An Easter cake for 360 elderly” and “Let’s help our elderly! 

In the first phase of the campaign it has been sent letters to 150 commercial agents, including all commercial banks from Chişinău. Our call for help was heard by the Romanian Commercial Bank Chisinau which provided 360 Easter cake, juices and cash donations from employees of BCR, Expo-Business-Chisinau who donated 1000 lei, Prometheus-T SA contributed with 1000 lei, Agroindbank who donated 1000 lei, Grisan-Hamba SA 200 lei, Î.I. Porubin from the city of Străşeni who donated 150 eggs. Neoumanist Association members expressed great thanks and are very grateful for the aid provided to beneficiaries.

 In the second stage was launched an event to collect funds with fundraising boxes with the messages “Fill the Easter basket of an elderly from 360″ and “Offer a donation for Easter to an elderly from 360″. At this event participated 8 local volunteers from “New Culture” Association – the partner of the Neoumanist. There were visited some business organizations, state institutions (Mayoralty from Straseni City, Municipality Council), and we collected donations from private persons. As a final result of the campaign it was collected a sum of 1834 lei.

 Those 360 elderly people are very happy that they could spend the Easter holiday having on their holiday table a red egg and an Easter cake and the most important thing that they were not forgotten.

 It has to be mentioned the act of charity of the Romanian Commercial Bank from Chisinau who donated to our beneficiaries juice and Easter cake. It is an unprecedented act of charity for Neoumanist Association. The Easter cakes were distributed by the Romanian Commercial Bank  employees Tatiana Gulai, Teodor Timofei and Valeriu Bolboşenco in an atmosphere of joy for the beneficiaries.

Finally we would like to thank to everyone who participated in this Easter campaign. The value of this act of charity is the feeling that we have contributed to a happy Easter for 360 elderly from the community of Straseni.
