After installing Registry Wizard and tweaking stuff on my MDA Vario, my device rebooted and just sta

After installing Registry Wizard and tweaking stuff on my MDA Vario, my device rebooted and just stayed on the white screen displaying the operating system configuration screen. I couldn’t do anything else with it – I thought it was dead! Having searched all over, I’ve written a piece about resetting your device here. The one that worked for me for this particular problem was method 3 (but I think method 2 works as well but I didnt have it at the time)

PS I found that it happens when you change the default input from keyboard to something else. Leave it at keyboard and everything should be Ok. Registry Wizard is nonetheless a COOL program, just don’t alter the keyboard setting.

Hard Resetting MDA Vario
There are different severities of hard resetting your MDA vario. Which one you use depends on what you are trying to achieve. If your phone is stuck and wont let you play, try the hard core resets (progress from method 1 (less sever) to method 3 (most severe). If it’s just a bit slow, try the soft reset.

HARDCORE RESET 1
start>settings>system tab> Clear Storage
This will still clear all your data and all the programs you have loaded onto your device. You’ll need to start all over again.

HARDCORE RESET 2
I hold the Comm and Voice Button (top two buttons on the side) AND the camera button (bottom right). Keep them pressed in and hit the reset with your stylus. Keep pressed in and let go of the stylus. Release when you see the following message:

PRESS Send to restore factory default,
SEND is the green lift up phone button on the left
It will do a brief format and restore to factory settings.

HARDCORE RESET 3
If your MDA wont budge with HARDCORE RESET 1 or 2, try this:
Enter Bootloader, – hold the “camera” (bottom right) and briefly press the reset button, don’t release “camera” until you can see colour screen, connect USB cable, and start to re-flash the ROM (download the latest flash rom update from http://t-mobile.iris-global.com/

SOFT RESET METHOD 1
This is the lightest of the reset methods. This is the one to use if you want to reset your device without having to re-install all your personal programs and data
 Simply press the reset hole with your stylus on the right hand side of the MDA device.

Since my post, “My Nokia N97 Won’t Start!!! I don’t want to Hard Reset. (Rant)” I’

Since my post, “My Nokia N97 Won’t Start!!! I don’t want to Hard Reset. (Rant)” I’ve had to hard-reset my N97 twice. I know it would probably be best to just cart it off to a repair centre and be away with it (man it sure needs to anyway as it’s picked up scratches in the camera portion and has bruises/chips/dents from the CityMan Antitheft)

However, sending it off would mean (despite being insured) at disappearance act of at least 2 weeks- most likely requiring a SWAP. Not only is that an inconvenience (what with being away and having to contact dvelopers about my change in IMEI) but what with the now seemingly mythical V20/V2.0 firmware for the Nokia N97 supposedly coming some time this month, I don’t want to miss out on maybe THAT fixing myN97 problem.

Several people have mentioned leaving the battery out for a long while and replacing it. That didn’t work for me (switched to my housemates’s iPhone for 2 hours…ooh that thing was glorious!) So what to do to avoid having to do a hard-reset and lose all your data?

How to avoid/fix the hard reset

Here are some methods you might want to try out, not 100% certain on effectiveness, but worth a try maybe just in case it helps you avoid hard-resetting. They are individual methods, not a sequence of instructions.

1. Re-install v12.0.024 firmware. I did this (on the 11th it seems – thank god for twitter acting remembering when/where/what I did for me!). to sort out a another problem I had with the N97. This is more of a preventative measure.

[update: Install V20.0.019 firmware. This seems to have sorted out my hard-reset issues]

2. If you see the blue Nokia logo for far too long (I’ve grown to hate seeing it at is means I may need to hard reset – anything past 40 seconds is abnormal) and no matter how long you wait it won’t start, try cycling these restart motions,

Battery out,in; memory card out – start

Battery out,in; memory card in – start <REPEAT for a while until something happens or you get bored and eventually do a hard reset)

Today, my N97 did the whole “blue nokia logo for 5 minutes = you need hard reset”. But somehow, taking the memory card out, and back in, and back out, and back in I managed to get the phone to turn on.

3. Try and avoid re-installing certain software. It’s possible a misinstalled app on the mass memory that once reinstalled causes these logo-screen-of-death to appear.

You can narrow it down next time by RESTARTING before you reinstall your next application. Then avoid installing that back the next time.

4. Wipe clean the MASS MEMORY and also maybe PHONE MEMORY. As in (3.) there is a possibility that there isn’t an underlying hardware fault but a misinstalled file, messing up your N97. It won’t go away with a hard reset as it only wipes phone memory (fortunately as that means not 100% data loss).

Do this in file manager>[open]>Options>Format mass memory.

Before doing this, Try maybe backing up E:Mass Memory with the PC Suite, “backup”, just in case it doesn’t help. I haven’t tried but will as a last resort if V20 does not fix the problem and THEN I’ll send it away for a repair/swap.

AUTOMATIC BACKUP

Whilst we’re on the subject of backing up; a good thing to try is to set the memory card to “BACKUP DAILY AT A TIME YOU SPECIFY”.

You do this within file manager>backup.

Make sure you set it at a time where you’re N97 is most likely on full charge. Perhaps early morning just before you leave for work/classes.

There is often a time in your Smartphone’s life when it needs to be reset back to factory defaults because something goes wrong for some reason.

On Windows Phone there are a couple of types of reset, the oft and then the Hard/Clean reset.

A soft reset is a like switching desktop computer on and off again. I closes applications and re-starts all the software. You can complete this by switching the device off completely or pressing a stylus into a reset hole, found somewhere on your device.

The Clean/Hard Reset is the main reset that wipes all data off the device, restoring it to the factory defaults.

There are two ways to complete a hard reset. The first is a series of physical key presses on the device itself in a particular sequence.

The second is accessing the clear storage menu within settings. This is the simplest and less complicated method.

Pick out the battery, press the call disconnect button until the device finished loading (Palm logo without progress bar). Release the button and confirm by pressing up.

Decided to do the reinstall today. Just like when reinstalling PC, spent last night gathering and organizing the setup for applications I would need. After that, everything goes like a breeze. The applications installed back smoothly.

Before doing the first Hot Sync, I make sure to move away the old back up folder in my computer, but copying back the PIM folders (Contact, Calendar, Tasks, Memo). I want to start out with clean preference and applications again. Of course application settings would be gone, but I had no critical information there.

After reinstalling, free space in the device is 20/68.8 Mb, before moving Docs 2 Go files to the storage card. I’ve downloaded PowerRUN too, so perhaps, after this I should try moving files to the storage card to save space.

Begini caranya :

^saya memakai PC Suite for Nokia^

Pastikan baterai HandPhone kamu Full, kalo HandPhone gampang drop lakukan sambil di charge.

Matikan dulu HandPhone kamu.

Tombol Dial (Warna Hijau)

Tombol Bintang (*)

Tombol angka nomer 3 (3)

Ingat!! jangan lepas ketiga tombol angka 3 sampai keluar tulisan formating dilayar HandPhone kamu.

Tunggu sampai format selesai.

Resultado: Perdi 2 trofeus do Prototype. Quem ja jogou sabe do que eu to falando.

4. Ligue novamente a chave traseira

If you’re unfortunate enough to encounter a problem on your Nokia N97, a hard reset maybe what

If you’re unfortunate enough to encounter a problem on your Nokia N97, a hard reset maybe what you need to do. This wipes the entire phone memory and settings fresh to how it was (or should be) when you bought it. It’s also useful if you’re also unfortunate enough to have to send away your Nokia N97 for repair or exchange, or maybe in future you maybe selling it and don’t want your information/details/media stored onto your device for someone else to access.

The traditional method won’t work as the N97 doesn’t have the old keypad. After you’ve backed up your data onto memory card/pc/ovi, turn your phone off and simultaneously press these four buttons circled in red.

Caps shift

Space bar

Delete button

On button

You’ll know it’s worked when you see the initial set up screen, asking country of origin. I haven’t actually tried this, but I’ll be doing so when I return the trial N97.

Update 26-07-09 - tried it -

wiped phone memory but did not touch the mass memory (you’ll have to format that separately via File Manager) – got 61 MB back.

Applications installed onto the memory card are still present

Fixed voice dialling, but after restoration from memory card, voice dialling was disabled again -_-

Hasn’t Fixed broken GPS. Refuses to get a GPS fix.

Restoring from memory card doesn’t put back widget/applications from phone memory you would have hoped to have been backed up on memory card – e.g. facebook/Nokia Messaging/N-Gage is gone.

Restoring from memory card does not restore the menu to how you may have reconfigured it (extremely annoying).

I’m not sure if the *#7370# code (enter code in dialler) has the same effect of wiping everything on the N97 – I’m not going to try and find out. In previous experiences with other Nokia devices, the button method has the advantage of being able to reset your phone if your device refuses to turn on.

Soft reset

- back to factory settings: This should maintain your data (contacts/messages/calendar/notes etc), just returning your N97 back to all previous settings

Somewhere along the road, I seemed to have developed a habit of making themed mixes featuring unreleased work. My goal here was to create an atmospheric “headphone” style blend, with emphasis on layering and progression. It starts with some downtempo melodies, then briefly hints at touches of dub, jungle, and garage. The mood shifts as it journeys into deeper minimal territory, then finishes with some eclectic bits. It’s hand-mixed with digital vinyl; virtually all unreleased dubs from a variety of artists. You are encouraged to re-post this mix!

I enjoyed making it. I hope you enjoy listening to it.”

Having spent a good part of the last couple of days doing some housekeeping and updating on my Samsu

Having spent a good part of the last couple of days doing some housekeeping and updating on my Samsung Omnia I had a bit of an issue late last night. The Omnia is aimed at doing everything (hence the name), but last night I owned an Oblivia. I’m not sure quite what happened but I think a disagreement between Windows Vista and my Omnia may have been to blame.

The issue was that my onboard additional memory (i.e. the extra storage chip not a removable memory card) became corrupted. Every time the Omnia tried to interact with it (which it does frequently) it mounted the My Storage memory into the file system and popped up a message asking if I wanted to view any pictures on the card. Unfortunately from watching it try and load the folder structure in the explorer application it seems that it could never quite finish loading it and it would dismount. A few seconds later it would mount it again and the process would repeat.

I tried accessing it as a USB hosted mass storage device from an XP and a Vista PC but neither could hold the connection long enough for me to take a good look around.

At this point I’d spent several hours trying to work out how to recover my phone and ultimately came to the conclusion that a hard reset was the only thing that was going to bring it back. A standard hard reset does not reset the My Storage memory and is invoked by pressing the start and end call keys immediately after pressing the soft reset.

Like most mobile phones special engineer codes allow access to special functions. One of these is what I call a “Really Hard Reset” where you can type in *2767*3855# … which can on some firmware releases reset the My Storage memory as well as the base internal memory.

Unfortunately my firmware seemed invulnerable. This lead me to the hard reset software in the settings of the Omnia. This is available in the System tab under Settings and allow you to reset the internal memory, the My Storage memory, or the entire phone. The reset of the My Storage memory does however rely on the memory being mounted … which pretty much brought me back to square one.

At this point I’d been looking at the problem and testing various options for about three or four hours and was growing really tired. I did manage to reset my Omnia in the end using the Hard Reset software but this was down to a lot of trial and error and good timing to catch it across two mount & dismount cycles with the confirmation windows.

The reset reformatted the My Storage memory and the Omnia has been functioning fine since, but I’ve spent most of the day rebuilding my phone – reinstalling software and adding data back on. Hopefully I’ll find some time to post about some useful things I’ve done to help speed up this process.

Well its been a long time since i posted the last post. A few days back, someone called me up asking

Well

its been a long time since i posted the last post. A few days back, someone called me up asking , Hey G’ How are you doing? I said, I am good. Thank you.

How About yourself? Reply came, am good too. Later i asked him if i know him anyway. he said we guys met a few days back around in a Local Cyber Cafe. I admit that my memory Sucks though never expected such a Scene anyway. The guy was all tensed about his New VOIP vonage- linksys router (RTP300). He said, G. I am all stucked up budd. my router has stopped responding, cant seem to get through with Vonage thing though Internet is working on the computer Perfectly.I told him about, doing power cycle and normal reset.

The guy Agreed, said might give a call if required? I was doing a discussion with the Cyber Cafe owner in implementing the Wireless Environment using Linux Systems. Currently he is operating 12 Machines on Win XP. Tired of Crash disks, unknown errors etc. i made the suggestion to opt for either Ubuntu or Linux. In the midst of discussion my 910i rang again, and it was expected this time. The same Guy had the problem with this RTp300.

He was like dying without the Vonage Phone connection as it was given in for the business use by his Firm. Well, i aint no Voip guy. so Cant seem to figure out about the thing with this Vonage connection.

While i was about to turn away from the guy’s issue, had a weird thought of giving in a visit and take a look at the problem. Ticked and done. I was there outside his home, which is like passing by four streets across mine.

I went in, a hearty welcome the guy did. cheked the Light status on the RTP300. Internet light and Ethernet Lights were active w.r.t power light. The phone Lights were a miss??? Tried different things, cheked for the Latest firmware on linksysbycisco.com, No Resolution. Quite Disheartning was i feeling, that moment. Not able to fix a simple Phone router. Lo_0L! Tried checking online, found out almost every other Vonage user is coping with such a problem and firmware version being revised by the Vonage people only. Accessed web user interface for RTP300, status internet ip and stuff is there though Under voice its in the process of registration ?

Giving up all the options, came a real uncommon thought. why dont i Just “hard Reset” the Router itself ? Thought wasnt that bad, ‘i took a pen pushed into the reset slot on the back of router and at the same time unplugged and plugged in the power cable of router twice within one minute.’ Finally unplugged the power for at least a 2 minutes and plugged it back in.

My my my,after waiting for almost 5 minutes connection came. It was Like a Charm. Cheked the reciever getting the dial tone and the Phone 1 Lighten up and began flickering. WOW! Ofcourse, i also tried Disabling third party or Router firewalls. No Use, just Hard Reset did the trick .

The Guy, Thanked me. telling me, he was stucked on with the same router since last night. was so Frustrated, shared business cards and became real good pals.

This Solution may be Applicable in following error codes-

Error Code 204 means that the phone lines are not registering with the Vonage service.

Code 003 is unable to reach Vonage’s configuration server and Code 004 is unable to register the phone line to Vonage’s network.

The Samsung Omnia (like most phones) has some hidden features that are more advanced tweaks than what most poeple realise. Be careful tweaking any of these settings though, as there is a possiblity of damaging your phone beyond repair (such as setting volume controls too high & blowing a speaker)
