365 Things has gone stagnate. Our calendar recording our daily give-aways is empty. I am not really sure what happened. But somewhere along the line we lost motivation. So here it is, August 18th and we haven’t given anything away since July 18th. We now have 31 things we have to give away tomorrow.

It all seemed so exciting at first. But after 98 things were given away, it started to get a little harder. We still have such a surplus, but we have to dig a little deeper in the drawer and we have to do a little more convincing of ourselves that we will survive without it.

I actually believe we acquired about 31 things this month. Why are free t-shirts so hard to pass up?

So we will spend the next week attempting to catch up. I am afraid of what will be placed in the pile. I am afraid because I am so attached to my stuff. I am afraid that along with the things, some part of my identity will be taken also. I am afraid because some part of me really believes that I can’t live without it. I am afraid because we may give something away that we really will need at some brief moment in the future.

The easy stuff is already at Goodwill. For us, the next 267 days will be the true experiment. 267 fewer things.

            Recently, I had a chat with Shapeofagirl. It was nice to finally sit down and have a heart to heart with her, which I havent done in a long time. With all the history we have, regardless that we’ve known eachother for such a short time, often I think each of us arent sure how close we should be to one another. Every so often, we have a great chat, and it’s great to have someone to bounce my thoughts off of. We are so similar and yet so different.

           I confided in her that lately, I’ve been feeling a little off. Not sick off. Just…off. Especially concerning the bedroom. I hadn’t had a lot of drive to have sex recently. Not that I hadn’t WANTED to, because I did. And not that I didn’t enjoy it once it happened, because I DID. It was just… getting into the mood that was my issue. And it had NOTHING to do with an attraction problem… because let’s face it – I think Cowboy is a sexy piece of meat.

           We sat and pondered, bounced ideas back and forth. Was  there anything else that was stressing me out? My job? My friends? Was my communication with Cowboy dying down? I nodded and shook my head. Work was the usual stressball, and anyone who reads my blog would know how I’ve been doing in the friends department. Cowboy? Things were perfect. Trying to think of anything that could be the reason, she says to me,”sex drive changes sometimes… just because.” I’ve never had that happen, but I guess as I’m growing up it’s bound to happen. Maybe it’s happened before, but simply disguised by the bad sex and awful relationships I had during the last few years.

But something changed this week. I hit the complete opposite.

            I’m not sure, but it could be this perfectly silly reason. Cowboy shaved earlier in this week. And anyone that knows him knows that he likes to change up the facial hair. When he picked me up from the airport, he sported a goatee, not unlike his fathers. In February, he was still rockin the goatee. In March, he picked me up in BC with a wonderfully trimmed beard. And it’s changed throughout the months. But this week, in the bathroom after a steamy shower (for two), he rocked the goatee again. I’m finding myself wanting him, right now, no matter where we are. I teased him relentlessly in the truck, driving back into the city yesterday. He was harder than ever, and I gave him what he wanted on the way back home. Nothing could satisfy me more than satisfying my Cowboy.

         Last night, Cowboy experienced something new together. I promised myself I would never sound like a cliche woman. I promised myself that I would never sound disgustingly sappy. But we made LOVE. We didn’t fuck, we didn’t screw, or bang, or bone. And it was the most magical thing. I never thought I could feel that close and connected to someone. We could feel eachother’s hearts beating, and his hot breath was in my ear, telling me he loved me. We fit together like puzzle pieces, and I was just so overwhelmed. We laid in eachothers arms, and everything melted away.

I thought I knew what making love was. And I thought it was boring, bullshit, and just ridiculous. With boring lovers and conflicted relationships. I never experienced anything like this in my life. Cowboy and I laid in bed together, with his fingers trailing the curves of my body while I trembled, and he looks at me with his adorable smile and love in his eyes.

“THAT was making love.”

Misschien ben ik een gastronomische barbaar, maar ik had nog nooit van bottarga gehoord. En ‘t dus ook nooit geproefd. Nou moet je natuurlijk toevallig op de goede plek zijn om zoiets te ontdekken, en bottarga is dé specialiteit van Sardinië; je komt het er overal op de menukaart tegen, in verschillende vormen en maten.

Bottarga is, in zijn meest originele versie, de volledige zak met kuit van de harder. Althans, de harder is de enige vis de haar kuit in zo’n grote zak bewaart; de zak en het kuit worden gezouten, gedroogd en geplet en daardoor ontstaan er harde stukjes gedroogde kuit die een ongelooflijk intense smaak van de zee hebben en, vanzelfsprekend, behoorlijk zout zijn en dus met mate moeten worden gegeten.

Wij proefden hem als ingrediënt van een verder eenvoudig pasta-gerecht: spaghetti, kleine meegebakken tomaatjes en stukjes bottarga. Bijna vanzelfsprekend is het een eeuwenoud gerecht; men zegt dat bottarga uit de tijd van de Feniciërs stamt, al komt het woord van het arabische butarikh, dat weer ‘gezouten viskuit’ betekent. Er wordt trouwens ook bottarga van de kuit van zwaardvis of tonijn gemaakt, maar de authentieke, die van Sardinië, is deze, die van de harder.

So this weekend ended up decently well. I picked up a friend that is in the USMC from Palm Springs Airport on Saturday around 3pm and we came down to party that Saturday night. Ended up good, we played beer pong and flip cup at my place and got super trashed. Sunday got to drive back to Palm Springs around 330pm and I didn’t get back home till around 7, during that time I think I just played a little Counter-Strike and then decided to go over to my girlfriends house, which didn’t end up that well because she was tired and hurting from her time of the month so I thought i’d be better if she just got some rest and I would see her tomorrow.

During the night something ended up happening and her mother had to be rushed to the E.R. – Thankfully she is okay but she will be confined in a facility for the next couple days.

Here’s a poem; Forever Gone

Her face is puffy and red, while painful tears stream down her sad face.
She cries out loudly, hoping someone will hear her silent screams.
So many voices going through her head,
telling her how better she would feel if she were dead.
She places her shaking hands over her ears, trying not to listen.
She yells out once again for help, yet no one comes to her rescue.
She then remains sitting there on her cold bathroom floor, while the clock ticks by.
Her body begins to shake uncontrollably, unable to stop it all.
Starting to realize that no one cares, feeling so alone and helpless.
She finally comes to the decision that there is only one thing left to do.
She brings her shaking hands together, closes her eyes and prays.
She speaks to god one last time and tells him this:

“Lord, I’m so tired and the pain inside doesn’t want to go away.
I can no longer shed anymore tears, for my eyes hurt me really bad.
The voices in my head don’t want to go away.
My heart aches so bad that it’s become too unbearable for me.
No one loves me, no one cares, no one wants me, and no one can help me now.
I tried being the good girl everyone wanted, but it wasn’t good enough.
All I wanted was for someone to love me God.
Was I asking too much?
I’m so sorry God but I have to end my suffering the only way I know how.
Please forgive me God for what I’m about to do.”

She opens her eyes for the last time, and quickly grabs for the razor blade.
She forces the sharp blade against her wrist.
She starts slitting her veins, deeper and deeper into her flesh.
The dark blood pours out more and more onto the floor all over.
Feeling weaker and weaker, becoming more and more unconscious by the seconds,
the blade drops from her hand onto that cold floor, her final resting place.
Her cold body now collapses to the floor and she slowly begins to feel the pain fade away along with her soul, finally falling into an endless sleep.
She lays there dead, yet free of pain.
It is now quiet, no screams, no tears, no suffering, just utter silence.

THE education export industry has to find a new way to prosper now that the government has made it harder for would-be migrants to use study as a route to permanent residency, social researcher Bob Birrell says.

In the Monash University journal People and Place, Dr Birrell said the industry, whose phenomenal growth had been helped by foreign students seeking permanent residency as skilled migrants, had reached a crossroads.

Dr Birrell is co-director of Monash’s Centre for Population and Urban Research, People and Place’s publisher.

He said a change to the skilled migration rules in December last year, coupled with other reforms, would put permanent residency beyond the reach of many former overseas students with poor English, little work experience and low-value qualifications in hospitality and cooking.

“Those providers who have built their business around marketing a credential that will lead to permanent residence must refocus their business,” he said. “They need to sell credentials that overseas students believe they can take back to their country of origin with profit.”

But Dennis Murray, executive director of the International Education Association of Australia, said the new rules would have little effect on universities although they would cut growth in hospitality courses. “We don’t see a wholesale collapse of the industry, which is what Bob would like to see,” he said.

Dr Birrell argued the appeal of permanent residency and lax rules for skilled migration delivered strong growth in business and information technology courses at universities in the early 2000s and even more dramatic growth since 2005 in hospitality, cooking and hairdressing courses at private colleges and TAFE institutes.

But the education business had come to distort the migration program, producing graduates ill-equipped or uninterested in the jobs they were supposedly trained for. Dr Birrell said the government took a stand, culminating in the tough new rules of December last year, but the surge in student numbers had carried through into the first few months of this year, for which there was official data.

“My expectation would be that the enrolments in the hospitality area will decline significantly once the message gets back via the recruitment network to the countries of origin,” he said.

Dr Birrell said higher education also would lose fee income because graduates in accounting, a field that had enjoyed strong growth, had to have better English or take on an extra year of professional training.

But he said the government needed to back its tough policy changes with a clearer message to the industry. Instead, it had allowed more than 40,000 former students to stay on temporary and bridging visas, even though most had little chance of securing permanent residency. Most had taken up temporary visas created to soften the blow of September 2007 reforms aimed at the poor English and poor employment prospects of former students.

Dr Birrell said another, sizeable group had found a loophole. In the year to May the Department of Immigration and Citizenship had allowed 15,417 former students to apply for permanent residency as skilled migrants, despite their lacking occupations on the tough new critical skills list ushered in last December. The department had put off the processing of applications by those lacking critical skills, meaning these students remained on bridging visas.

The department’s decision to accept these applications, and the $2105 fee, was “contentious and unwise” because it suggested these students eventually might win permanent residency despite not meeting the tight new rules.

“I think there’s something of a battle going on within government as to which should be given priority: the maintenance of the (overseas student) industry on the one hand and dealing with the immigration problems generated by it on the other,” Dr Birrell said.

An Immigration Department spokesman said the government was pursuing a more carefully targeted migration program, given the difficult economic times.

“Australia is giving priority to those people sponsored by employers or on the critical skills list, thus ensuring the nation gets people with the skills the economy and employers need,” he said.
