Betyg: 2

If you don’t know who Danneel Harris is, it’s okay. We didn’t recognize the name at first and after staring at these pictures for 10 minuets we decided we needed to look her up. She is a small time actress who hasn’t had the chance to be noticed by the masses yet. She was in a couple TV shows including Joey and How I Met Your Mother and then movie wise she was in Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay, and the recently released Fired Up. Hope that jogged your memory on who Danneel Harris.

Now, stare at these pictures.

Studio: New Line Home Video Release Date: 07/29/2008 Rating: Ur Beginning precisely where Harold

Studio: New Line Home Video Release Date: 07/29/2008 Rating: Ur

Beginning precisely where Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle left off, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay takes the film franchise in a more boorish and spuriously topical direction. Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) take an ill-fated flight to Amsterdam, during which Kumar’s suspicious-looking bong is mistaken for a bomb. Their arrest prompts a wild-eyed, racist Homeland Security nut (Rob Corddry) to send the boys to indefinite lockup at Guantanamo Bay, where beefy guards sexually subjugate “enemy combatants.” The duo manage to get away and make it back to the U.S., hoping the well-connected fiance (Eric Winter) of Kumar’s old girlfriend, Vanessa (Danneel Harris), can get them out of their mess. During a dangerous and grotesque odyssey to Texas (where Vanessa is marrying her rich and vain boyfriend, much to Kumar’s dismay), Harold and Kumar have episodic encounters with the Ku Klux Klan, a one-eyed, inbred monster, and old friend Neil Patrick Harris (as himself), who swallows fistfuls of magic mushrooms and drags the boys to a brothel stop that goes terribly wrong.

The desultory comedy strikes a lowbrow tone from its opening scene (Harold takes a shower while Kumar has a diarrhea attack) and doesn’t get much more interesting than that. If there’s a bodily fluid that doesn’t rate a joke in Guantanamo Bay, it doesn’t exist. The persistent sight gags about weed (including a smoky visit with President Bush) never reach the kind of giddy pitch that pot humor requires, leaving a lot of the film’s comedy just hanging like dead space. The sequel’s attempt to say something, albeit in a gross way, about the state of the country during the Bush years is obvious and empty. Really, there isn’t a lot of reason for Guantanamo Bay to have been made, except to print money. –Tom Keogh

New Years was nice. I went to North London with my friend Liz and we met up with my Roommate Theo. I

New Years was nice. I went to North London with my friend Liz and we met up with my Roommate Theo. I am sort of begrudgingly writing this particular post, I am a bit burnt out on writing. Firstly, because I decided it’d be a good idea to write about a bunch of movies released this year—just for “fun”. And secondly because I’ve finally started drafting the second paper for this Christmas break (after a lot of reading).

So, New Years. Liz and I got a late start on the train up, and only had time to visit one place. We chose the Natural History Museum of London. A wise decision. The museum is massive, we spent maybe two hours there and only saw about half of it (maybe) and didn’t spend very long in any particular area. I took some pictures which you can see via the my flickr page, but they don’t really do it justice. It’s beautiful, it is almost like the Louvre of Natural History Museums—I haven’t ever seen one as expansive and big. I think it was larger than the one in Chicago, which is the only other major city NHM I’ve been too. I enjoyed the animal section of the museum on dinosaurs and mammals, but I would have liked to see the mineral and rock area if I ever have a chance to go back.

After that we headed to Brick Lane; however, Theo didn’t meet up with us until later because he lives in London and this stuff is all pretty old news for him. Brick lane is a very long street in east London that is overflowing with Indian restaurants. Generally, it seems like people enjoy to wait and eat out later when they are hungrier because when we got there it was hard to find a restaurant with people already in it. We looked for a restaurant that had people in it already in order to solve the problem of finding a good restaurant. We took for granted that a pretty full restaurant meant good food and chose a place called “Monsoon.” We got a standard order of pompadom with chutney’s to whet our appetite. Then, with naan and rice of course, we shared an order of lychee and vegetable Kashmiri (which was a nice korma-ish sort of sauce with potatoes and lychee fruit) and an eggplant and tomato dish which ended in Jhool (but I can’t remember the full name for—I sure wish Monsoon had a website). I also got a beer and the price of the whole meal would have been less than 20 pounds if I hadn’t ordered it, so it was pretty darn cheap. If you ever go to London, and you enjoy Indian, this might be a place to go (though, really, it’s hard to go wrong with Indian in London in general)

Theo met up with us at the restraurant and showed us how to get to a friends house party in New Cross Gate (north London). Here we mainly talked with some of Theo’s friends, played video games, watched the fireworks from a nearby park as the year turned to the long awaited 2009, and played more video games. I actually didn’t sleep, much to Liz’s chagrin (I believe), and I felt terrible the next day. Truely terrible. I am easily influenced by lack of sleep, and I felt fairly depressed after having spent 48 hours awake, because I decided to stay up the following day (with the exception of a 2 hour nap) in order to get back on a regular sleeping schedule immediately.

I’ve been deciding if this is worthwhile to post, and sense I’ve spent a bunch of time on it, I suppose it is.

No Numbered Top List, Just Some Things to Say About Cinema I Saw From 2008. There are spoilers, so be aware.

Wall-E
Right at the top, because it was the best movie of 2008. It utilized the robot-human paradox (A.I., 2001: A Space Odessey, etc.) but was a childrens movie. It had a green message, and pulled my heart strings to tears. It was a Pixar movie, and beautifully and inspiring-ly animated. A.K.A it was pure brilliance. Pixar films are an experience before they are an essence. You can say they sort of look the same, but there is something else in these movies that Dreamworks just can’t reproduce no matter how hard they try. It’s a tight knit group of auteur’s if you ask me. However, the stand out man here is Andrew Stanton, who will be producing the (AMAZING SOUNDING) John Carter of Mars by 2010 (hopefully).

Encounters at the End of the World
Another ‘extreme’ Herzog film. In ‘European Realisms’ class my professor sort of glossed over a concrete look at Herzog, but mainly managed to say that his documentaries manage to find Germany where-ever he goes. So, what is Germany, really? What does Herzog think Germany is? And in what ways did he show us Germany at the North Pole? Well, I can concretely say he did manage to find the only weird German people at the South Pole. The film was essentially about strange characters, who, while traveling and being some type of nomads, ended up together at the bottom of the world. I think the best part of the film was getting a bunch of weird-eccentric scientists (“…many of them express grave doubts of our long lasting presence on this planet. nature, they predict, will regulate us.”) to put their ears to the ground (obviously they were asked to, and would not normally) and listen to the super strange sounds that come from beneath the ice (basically seal noises and ice cracks).

The Dark Knight
Heath Ledger died. The film was fantastic. I’ve heard some complaints (Nile probably) about the acting career and style of Christian Bale, but look, he’s hot and can act cold/hard-boiled, I think he is perfect for Batman. I think there was some total cheese with the boat detonators, but I suppose that’s just the way it goes with hero movies, and they litterally left Joker hanging at the end for a plot line that I found sub-par (but may have been a wise production decision), with two-face. That said, the movie was beautiful, totally engrossing, and it really had that new action spine-chill. Please don’t compare it to Jack Nicholson, they were both great—can’t we just enjoy two brilliant movies?

Iron Man
Sort of an unexpected hit, from my perspective. I hadn’t really expected much but it really was good. And the ending, fantastic, completely on par with the recent Civil War series by Marvel. I wish more movies tackled that concept, it is a main plot point in The Watchmen so I’m looking forward to that.

Burn After Reading
Way underrated. I think it was closer to the Big Labowski, but more focused on the subruban overflow and upper middle class nonscense. A line that became a running joke with Theo and I, George Clooney: “I should try to sneak a run in.” These characters are all pretty neurotic in some way, aside from the people we don’t really get to know (CIA folks). Anyway, I thought it was really entertaining, and got sort of bad reviews compared to their last academy award winner despite being notably more fun and less boring (not to say boring is a bad thing, just that it’s ironic that people prefer a more boring movie than a funny American introspective).

The Wackness
I really would have liked to have seen this with Monica, but it didn’t turn out. Regardless, I enjoyed it a lot, but there was something missing (besides Monica). I think it was the absolutely narcissm and destructive personal choices of the mid-life-crisis psychologist father figure—I couldn’t identify, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I especially enjoyed the bit where the kid couldn’t have sex because the booze made him impotent. The music/soundtrack was superb, and the direction was pretty fantastic. I think at first I enjoyed the random little “fantasy” moments, like dancing on the sidewalk and having blocks light up, but they were so spaced out and detached from the rest of the film that I think they were sort of useless, and in the end detracted slightly from the film. It makes the film worth seeing just in reference: Josh Peck of Nickelodeon fame.

X-Files: I Want to Believe
This film wasn’t that good. But look, it had Mulder and Skully in it, what more do you want. And talk about a hot bed scene, that had to be the most cathartic moment in the history of the X-Files: “FINALLY!” There was no weird super natural stuff, mostly a normal old psychological thriller, and no aliens—for that, I am not happy. Anyway, besides the skully-mulder relationship, I think the film was unsatisfying to critics and fans. No weirdness, no previous storyline, no funny quirky moments, no David D cheese, too much drama, no “get back in the kitchen and make me a sandwich” dialogue, etc. Ok, so there is a lot more that I want(ed).

The Counterfeiters
It was strange how I ended up with this film. I had heard nothing about it, and it sort of ended up in my computer due to a roommate who I resented living with (another story altogether). I watched it with a really new friend, neither of us knew each others taste or moods but we watched this serious movie anyway. It sort of blows back to Schindler’s List (sans German portagonist), in that it’s about a special group of Jewish individuals who avoid death by being useful, or seeming useful, to the Nazi’s under the guise of a cold but kind male super-manager. The film’s plot revolves around, obviously, counterfeiting. Specifically the counterfeiting of the American dollar, which is really quite interesting from a “how things are made” aspect. If it were legal, it’s be amazing to see one of the “how things are made” episodes focus on American, or any countries, currency.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona
The Woody Allen film for this year. Scarlett Johannson, Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, and Rebecca Hall make about an all-star-average-hot-list cast. I saw the film with Monica, so I think a couple extra drops of seratonin seeped into my enjoyment of the film—hence I liked it. P Cruz played a pretty good crazy woman. Still, I wasn’t overly impressed with it—Woody Allen’s more conceptual stuff I’ve always found more entertaining (“I think I’m losing my focus” from Deconstructing Harry). It did, however, make me want to go to Barcelona really bad—which, hopefully I’ll be able to do next semester.

Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Alright, I have to admit, and I may be the only one to do so, the alien stuff excited me at first. By the end though, I felt ripped off by the alien concept. Aliens are awesome, but they missed the whole point of aliens in the cultural/humanistic perspective, what they represent in the human condition and psyche. This movie, probably should never have been made. Side note: I wish Monica was here to remind me what we were talking about regarding Russian’s as antagonists, and women portraying them with sub-par accents.

The Happening
People hated this movie, it will go all over top lists as the worst movie of the year. So, I’ll talk about what I liked. It was ridiculous. The acting and dialogue were just plain B-movie, but the film had majory stars (Zooey Deschanel, Mark Wahlberg)—props for that and not doing it on purpose as per Planet Terror. I absolutely loved the approximate 45 minutes of the film spent on grass and trees blowing in the wind. Brilliant.

Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay
Saw this on the plane on the way to London Heathrow. It was sort of embarrassing when Harold and Kumar end up at a bottomless (instead of topless) pool party and most of the girls decided they would just as well be naked, because I was sitting next to a complete stranger, and there were plenty of children around. I suppose it’s just sexy naked people though, no big deal really. The movie itself was just entertaining, filled pop culture caricatures of those individuals who were employed in new government positions under the Bush administration that will end up helping to define the attitude of the generation that lived through it—and just wanted White Castle (or, if I wasn’t vegetarian, Wendy’s [tm]).

Funny Games
Technically the release date of this was in 2007 (the re-make, the original is from 97′), but I don’t think it got to most theaters until 2008—so I’m throwing it in this list. I liked it! As a re-make it was sort of like the American re-makes of the Grudge and Ring. The director cared about the subtleties of the mise-en-scene enough to copy the film, essentially shot for shot, and just replace the locations, actors, and household items in the film. The fact is, if you don’t live in Germany, you’re not going to recognize the branding on the milk carton—and that’s half the point of the film.

Diary of the Dead
(Similar situation to funny games, I think technically it came out in 2007, but was in theaters in 08′) I love zombie movies and post-apocalyptic movies. This movie, however, was not good. Cloverfield (which I’ll get to) and this are missing out on something. There is a REAL emotion to hand-held, and they aren’t capturing it. It’s not gritty enough. I really don’t think I’m reading into it too much. It feels empty, but movies like the original Dogme 95′ films, and most of Harmony Korine’s stuff for that matter, get it. It dosen’t have to be scary, it’s just there needs to be a different process for making this films, they can’t be filmmed like normal Hollywood films—or at least the actors need to learn how to make it feel like it’s a home movie (Michael Cera?)

In Bruges
Not that into it. It was ok. Just felt sort of boring and contrived to me. Wonderful acting, beautifully filmmed, the plot wasn’t half bad. The male characters were nice. Maybe I was in a bad mood. Uh oh…I think I just realized I don’t like Colin Farrell. I’m sure he’s a great guy…it’s just. It’s not working out. I’m sorry.

4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days
Best indiependent film of the year. Got the Cannes palme d’or. I rarely watch the commentaries and special features of films, but I loved this film so much that I did. The cinematographer is a genius. He worked with the locations, and used Kubrick’s invention to steady cam on the waist, to film a lot of the movie. Huge long night shots, up stairs through dark places. A huge realism in this film. I wish we could have talked about it in my European Realisms class.

Teeth
Enjoyed this film with Monica as well. Funny, disturbingly funny. Good idea, loved the 50s feel to it. Not the best film of the year, I think just because it wasn’t supposed to be. It felt like a really carefully crafted school project. Nice subruban atmosphere disrupted by feminism (though a male director). Entertaining. Boy, I am running out of steam.

Cloverfield
Already talked about this. More monster, less hype. The plot was pretty weak, I must say, I didn’t care enough about the characters. But this idea blows back to the whole reality-tv hand-held-camera comments I made in the look at Diary of the Dead. Cool idea though, is it a coincedence that both of the major Hollywood films which hand-held cameras were post-apocalyptic? J.J. Abrams is all hype, literally (he didn’t direct it, but he produced it, and this just yells his style). I said so in his TED talk. He’s not interested in what’s inside the box just the mystery that the outside generates.

Hancock
Early on people kept saying that Hancock was like our friend David (based on the trailers). He’s not though, like the reviews said, he’s just an asshole. Super powers rock, if you’re going to be depressed about it do it like The Watchmen—in a impotence generating vacuum of a never ending cold war. But, where I don’t fall for Colin Farrel, I completely fall for Will Smith. I kind of think he’s hot, and he did those great “Wild Wild West,” and “Men In Black” songs.

Quantum of Solace
You really need to watch the previous Casino Royale and this one together to grasp the film in it’s entirety. I did not, instead read the wikipedia summary to refresh myself, and then got it. I actually liked how detached Bond was in this one. His job isn’t a happy one, and it’s understandably cold to remain dignified in a job like that. Therefore, I think the film continues with the tradition successfully bringing it into a new age. Maybe the real problem is all of the rest of the Bonds, these films seem to ask “was I having too much fun, isn’t this a really messed up world?”

Wendy and Lucy
Heard about this from Sam and Sagan in seperate ways. I watched Old Joy again recently and looked to see if I could find a copy, lucky me. The film follows a girl and her dog, and she loses the dog, and has to find it. It’s enjoyable. This is an example of an entertaining, emotional, fun, boring, beautiful, independent film. Very slow, but sometimes it’s nice to slow down. Still, wasn’t my favorite movie. There was this interesting backstory with her parents in Muncie, Indiana that was rendered essentially unimportant. The film was really nice in that it simply showed you, and didn’t tell you, what happened. It was sort of like what I wanted Into the Wild to be, but it never could be.

Kung-Fu Panda
[re-arranged this so I could end on a happy note] This film should be tied with Wall-E for the best film of the year. It was Soooo good. I can’t stress how entertaining, fun, and individualistically statisfying it was for me. Jack Black did a fantastic job, and seemed to let go of the asshole aspects of his persona for this role, a wise decision (though without the asshole, we’d have never heard ‘Drive-Thru’, but that’s a totally different story). The voice cast was pretty star-full, so it’s got that going for it too. But really, it’s just a good story.

Following up his hit DUDE WHERE’S MY CAR? writer-director Danny Leiner has come up with the riotous road-trip comedy HAROLD & KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE. Harold (John Cho) has graduated college and is now working at a cubicle where he is abused by other workers and forced to do their jobs for them. Kumar (Kal Penn) is expected to go to medical school to follow in the footsteps of his father and brother but he’d rather spend his time partying. The entire film takes place in one night as wild Kumar is determined to get a sack of burgers at White Castle even though his more staid roommate would prefer to stay home and finish a project for his officemates. While Kumar seeks fun and adventure lusting after nearly every woman he meets Harold dreams only of Maria (Paula Garces) the woman down the hall whom he likes but is too afraid to talk to. Harold & Kumar’s excellent adventure includes an outrageous bathroom scene in a college; a cop who takes his job way too seriously; a group of extreme rad dudes who harass Harold Kumar and a convenience store manager; LAW & ORDER: SVU’s Chris Meloni as an incredibly disgusting possible psycho; and Neil Patrick Harris playing himself making fun of his Doogie Howser image. In addition to plenty of raunchy–and very funny–references to sex drugs and rock & roll Leiner also takes on stereotypes and the meaning of love.

Going to the movies this week?

Here’s our pick…

Harold and Kumar
Escape From Gauntanamo Bay

The sequel to the much loved prequel, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, this movie has all a stoner movie should. It follows on straight from the first movie, the morning after returning from their White Castle road trip, Harold and Kumar decide to go to Amsterdam so that Harold can see Maria again. On the plane, Kumar decides to spark up his new bong, after being mistaken for a terrorist they are sent to Guantanimo Bay. Ordered to suck of the guard, they manage to escape, make their way to Florida and head for Texas to find Kumar’s ex-gf’s fiance, the well-connected Colton, and get him to intercede with Washington on their behalf. What follows is a movie full of FBI chases, bottom-less parties, impred southerners, a run-in with the KKK and a smoke with GW Bush…hilarious…

Baby Mama
[ 4 stars out of 4 ]

This film made me smile from ear to ear from the time it started until the credits started rolling. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler is an excellent duo because each of them are funny in a different way. Poehler is more goofy-funny (I still laugh every time I think of her, “Bitch! I don’t know your life!” line). Fey is more low-key/smart funny. That’s why they work well together. The script is witty in its own way and it’s nicely paced. One-liners are abound and I couldn’t help but think about them on the way home. All the characters had something to contribute to the overall picture, which is nice to see in the comedy genre. The only minor problem I had with it is that it sometimes resulted to cliches (the romance between Fey and Greg Kinnear). Nonetheless, this definitely made me and my friend laugh. For those who are fans of “Superbad” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” this is a good choice to Netflix or even watch in the cinema. I know it’s going to get lost in the shuffle because of the premieres of big films like “Iron Man” and “Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.” I just hope more people would give it a chance when they have time to spare.

2001: A Space Odyssey
[ 4 stars out of 4 ]

This will always remain one of my favourite films of all time because Stanley Kubrick directed this movie with such mastery. Each image that can be seen and not seen are as powerful as their implications about the past, present, and future. My statements may sound like a hyperbole, but this movie really does start from the beginning of time until it comes full circle. This was made in the 1960’s but the visual effects match the best of today. But what I admire most about it its ability to use the eye-opening effects to support the story, not drive it. Moreover, one of the most menacing villains in film history can be found here. It has many insightful commentaries about science and technology and the rate of which we embrace them, without first fully thinking about the consequences. For me, the prevailing emotion of this film is the sense of isolation. There’s no escape or going back when one is miles and miles away from planet Earth. That, in itself, is a scary thought even though people cannot yet go to space so freely because it works as a metaphor for life. Even though I admire this film, I cannnot say that I completely understand it. The last few scenes gave me questions more than answers. I’ve seen this film more than once and I still do not understand everything. Maybe we’re not supposed to. As the film implies, maybe the unknown is what drives us as a species. Maybe to obtain a solution about the unknown is simply not meant to be because life is not life without mysteries.

Bourne Identity, The
[ 4 stars out of 4 ]

Engaging in every way, this is my idea of an adrenaline-fueled escapism at its best. With only three movies out, I think this matched the best installments of the “James Bond” franchise. “Identity” set up the mystery that ran in the veins of the other two and the film did so with such grace. From its opening sequence, Matt Damon convinced us that he is Jason Bourne–even though he turns out to be an assassin, the audience still care for and identify with him. That’s hard to achieve. There are a lot of classic scenes in this movie. My favourite has got to be the silent but deadly duel between Matt Damon and Clive Owen near the end of the film. It was done with such focus and intelligence to the point where I was weak at the end of it. It’s funny because silent moments are the strong points of the “Bourne” series yet it is an action-thriller film. It’s ironic because action films strive to be loud, with guns and grenades going off all over the place. The “Bourne” series is humble and quiet… yet manages to throw powerful punches. Matt Damon is known in films like the “Ocean’s” franchise and “Good Will Hunting.” But I will always, always define him as Jason Bourne, the charismatic assassin in search for the truth regarding his identity.

Heyyy! Happy Birthday Breanna! Well, it was yesterday but since we hung out yesterday, I didn’t shout out a Happy Birthday on here! So happy birthday mah bffl! Bre, Joey, Sam, Melissa, Vincent, and I went to see Pineapple Express but since it’s a Rated R movie we had to buy a ticket for Wall-E and then sneak into Pineapple Express. Lol. No one stopped us so we were fine. Anyway, I REALLY did not think it was going to be as good as it actually was. That movie was HILARIOUS! I loved it and I really surprised myself because I did not think I would like it and I didn’t think it would be funny. I WAS DEAD WRONG! But lmao, in like the first 10 minutes of the movie, Vincent was like… “Wait, what is he supposed to be? Is he like some sort of drugdealer?” LMAO No shit sherlock! Breanna was cracking up xD. Anyway the movie was great. James Franco was sooo funny lmao. And then after that we ate at Johnny Rockets. We told the guy that it was Bre’s birthday but they didn’t sing happy birthday to her lmao. Anyway, we hung out for a bit went up on the parking lot roof, chilled a bit. Played monkey in the middle lol. Anywayz, Bre, Joey, Melissa and I ended up going to Blockbuster and renting another movie. We got Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay and brought it over to Bre’s house. We started watching it and it wasn’t really funny, and it was pretty much a similar plot to the first one…and then it got weird because we did not expect the unrated version to be so…lol unrated hahah it was funny because Bre’s parents were right in the other room when the ‘bottomless party’ scene came on lmao. So that was quite…awkward. Anyway, then Neil Patrick Harris came in the next scene and we started to get bored with it. Lol then Bre’s parents brought out her birthday cake with candles and stuff and Bre kept trying to blow it out and they were like trick candles so they kept coming back on lol its was really funny. And one of them started to fall over haha. Anyway, all in all we had a great time. And as a side note, Pineapple Express was WAY funnier than Harold and Kumar and they didn’t even have to try as hard. Oh wellz

Oh and later today im going to get sushi with Marissa and Emily! I’ve never had sushi before..well actually I’ve tried it once, from my friend who use to bring in homeade kimbap which I REALLY liked so I doubt that I’ll not like other types of sushi. And we’re heading back to Marissa’s to chill. I’m a busy beeeee.

P.S. My mom found some old pictures from kindergarten. We were so little! If you were in my class, and your my friend on facebook, go head over there and check them out!

År: 2008
Genre: Komedi
Skådisar: John Cho, Kal Penn, Roger Bart

It doesn’t, however, as its satirical jabs at culture and race in post-9/11 America are surprisingly, well, blunted, but it’s frequently very funny, and its main characters are amiable enough to pull audiences through what is a very spotty movie indeed. It gets a good deal of its requisite gross-out humor out of the way in its first few minutes, thankfully, and the rest of the movie is basically a series of misadventures, some funnier than others, as Harold and Kumar, post-escape, try to make it to Texas, where they hope a well-connected friend will help them clear their names. As with the first film, Neil Patrick Harris playing “Neil Patrick Harris,” a drug-addled, hard drinking version of himself is a comic highlight. I’m giving this three monkeys only because the overall mood of the movie is so good-natured and because it does contain some pretty funny moments, but if you were not a fan of the first movie, you will probably want to lower the rating down another monkey.

I was watching Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay this weekend. Fairly funny. Not quite as much as the first one, but NPH makes another cameo, so it can’t be all bad. The funniest was the flashback to the college years, when Kumar was a straight-laced math geek and Harold was goth.

The soundtrack to the movie is actually quite good. It includes a truly random mix of music, from Poison to Belinda Carlisle, Mickey Avalon to Boys II Men, Will.I.Am to Kenny Loggins. That’s quite a mix. Louis Armstrong and Mark Ronson even contribute songs. There are 35 songs in all, but only 12 of them are on the soundtrack album. You can find all of them on the ReelSoundtrack Web site.

Hola! my dear readers. I am back after a hiatus. My last post was about 10 days ago and here is a pictorial representation of what I was upto….

Never judge a movie by its promos..that is what I sadly but thankfully learnt after after sitting through the two movies. Sad to say that Harold and Kumar did not meet my expectations. I did not watch the previous H&K movies….otherwise I’d have definately skipped this one. American Pie is much more funnier. Harold and Kumar is a ’gross’er version of American Pie. It is funny at times but the rest of the movie will make you wonder why Kal Penn, after his brilliant performance in The Namesake signed up for this disgusting movie!

Superhero Movie isn’t great either. S infact slept after the first half ROFL! Don’t go by the cast. Yes….it has Leslie Nielsen in it…but for only 15 mins Since it is a spin off of Spider Man – 1, you know what’s will happen next (except that the super hero here is not bit by a spider but by a dragon fly) with some of the characters of X-Men and Batman ’thrown’ in here and there.

I am not going to elaborate on the stories ‘cuz there isn’t one. Don’t waste your money by going to the theatres. Just rent a DVD once they are out or even better….watch then online without spending a penny.

Harold and Kumar :1.5/5

Super Hero Movie: 2/5

One of the movies’ I am desperate to watch this week is Mongol…the story of the rise to power of Genghis Khan. The movie was also nominated for an oscar in the Foreign Film Category. Personally, I love epics….I am crazy about anything to do with history. I loved Troy, King Arthur, some of the Jane Austen movies and lots more…including our very own Pathala Bhairavi and Maya Bazaar. I can watch these movies a 100 times and still not be fed up. Everything about this genre of movies is so magical. It feels like you’ve been transported to a different era altogether.

Mangol is like the ‘tiramisu’ of all these movies. It is not ficitional..it is about a person who lived…it is about a person I read and heard alot…so it will be fantastic if I can put faces to the character I have made in my head.

Sarkar Raj is out aswell but I am not terribly excited about the movie. I’ll give it a miss today. Haven’t read great reviews for it.

Packing is going at a snail’s pace now. Had alot of stuff cleared out over the weekend. The To Let sign has gone up infront of our property….and grim reminder that there aren’t many days left but I am in no hurry I always leave things till the last minute anyway

Njoy! Review coming up soon
