I am now up to 23 e mails from Joseph at Norther Debt Recovery. One minute he’s telling me to pay £1058, the next hes saying he will accept my offer of £544.00 plus a further £276.00 in charges. Ive queried this again and again with them. On 17.08.2012 when I owed £626.00 I told them that they could have £544.00 in full and final settlement there and then, they refused and insisted on the £626.00 I just did not have it. Two days later NDR advise they want the £1058.00. I then received an e mail from Toothfairy offering me a further fast track loan of £400.00. GOBSMACKED IS NOT THE WORD!!!

I immediately e mailed Jospeh regarding this and also advised he had not responded to my previous e mails. In fact I had sent two e mails the previous week asking him to respond. Get another e mail from Toothfairy advising that I had not adhered to the payment arrangement we had agreed to make payment of £72.00 on 04.09.2012. WHAT PAY ARRANGMENT? I never agreed anything with Toothfairy, JUST MORE LIES AND FABRICATION!! The e mail was nasty and again broke the guidelines laid down by www.oft.com a copy is winging its way to them. The paragraph of interest reads as follows: By failing to honour this agreement all charges will immediately become due. Recovery Agents will be sent to all addresses we have on file for you in order to obtain payment. Should this also prove unsuccessful we will be liaising with solicitors who will obtain a County Court Judgement against you. Once this is secured we will return with a Warrant of Execution from the County Court and certified Court Bailiffs to seize goods at 9 times the value of what you owe. This is outrageous, even if they obtained a court order from me, as long as I kept to any payment arrangment stipulated by the Judge, there is no way they would be allowed to call at my home and remove goods, IT WOULD BE… against the bloody law:)

These people are really no better than Terrorists. I’ll jkeep you informed

*I received Drummer Girl as a submission for the YABA

There were little parts of this that I liked and I wanted to enjoy it but I’m afraid it just didn’t work for me. It was too after-school special, with obvious lessons to learn. I like when books deal with issues like being true to yourself, bullying, peer pressure, assault, abandonment and so on but I don’t like when a novel throws it in your face so much. The author uses the school guidance councilor as a voice of caution and guidance to the reader a little too much. It was cheesy and I didn’t think the narrator felt very authentic. The overall plot was sound, but the details made it feel like an adult talking about what not to do, or how to handle things, instead of a novel that effectively illustrates the teenage experience.

That the narrator constantly has to deal with stupid groping boys when she starts wearing skirts really disgusted me. It makes me think about the Slut Walk where women celebrate their right to wear what they like without being touched. A skirt is not an invitation to be touched, and it really bothers me that this has to be pointed out by the book but it’s sadly very true that this is a problem.

The nerd in me also takes offense to how she was so surprised to fall for a geek with glasses. I hate when characters in movies have to lose their glasses to become pretty or dateable, or whatever. I like my glasses, and I refuse to take them off for pictures even though everyone always asks me to. The attitude towards his glasses seemed to contradict her whole, don’t need to change her style epiphany when she decides to keep her old band t-shirts in her wardrobe and only keep select things from her makeover. She’s glad he has glasses so other girls won’t notice him. What? Ugh. I know I’m bias because I think nerdy guys are adorable but that’s just unnecessarily shallow and an unhealthy attitude.
