As i get ready for thanksgiving i watched my husband and my son share in their morning routine of tickles, headbuts, kisses, hugs, and laughter while they got dressed today. and it made me realize how thankful I am. My husband and i have made a lot of choices this year, most of which we have gotten a slack from from family and misc. people. But those choices have been choices of sacrifice. Sacrifices that sometimes were hard to make or were slow to be made and have made life a little more difficult, yes, but sacrifices that are well worth the end result. Because of these choices and sacrifices i get to be home with my son everyday, i get to be here for every up and every down, every smile and every tear, every laugh and every scream. Sometimes its hard, some moments i cry with him, but at the end of the day, or as it was the start of the day today i am so thankful for those choices we have made. No matter how tough it is right now i wouldn’t trade any of it to be away from my son and miss out on who is he is. Sure i could work a 40hr (or as it was a 50/60hr) work week and we could be in a position of owning a house but i would have to do that at the sacrifice of missing my sons first attempts at words, his first time rolling over, the first time he crawled, the first time who stood, and the first time he decided he could walk. I would have missed the first time he danced, and the joy on his face when he discovered that more than just balls can go into his pound it away boat. Yeah i would get to see the later attempts of all of these in that hour i would get to spend with him between 5pm when i would get off work and 6:30 when he goes to bed and on saturdays and sundays. But Its not the same, i know its the same when i see the look on my husbands face when i told him his son said duck and quack quack, or the tears that came to his eyes when i told him Harvey just spent the last 15min in the car saying dada dada dada because he was so excited to have lunch with his daddy.

My son may not ever be able to say his parents bought him a car, he may not ever get every christmas present or birthday present he ever wanted, Heck we may not ever be able to buy him a whole lot period, but in 20 years when he grows up, he’ll be able to say my mom and dad were there. and for that I am thankful. Today i am thankful to know that i am here and tomorrow i will be thankful that i was here, and someday when i can’t be there anymore he will be thankful that i was here.

My baby is sick, he has had a runny nose for a few weeks, one that has been attributed more to teething than anything, but then this weekend that runny nose got worse and it broke my heart. and then i realized yet another reason why i choose to breastfeed and why i am choosing to tandem nurse, that reason… the antibodies. My son obviously has a cold, that i am obviously fighting (or i’d be sick to) so my immune system is obviously putting off antibodies. what a huge benefit to my son! he can get my antibodies from nursing and that will make him feel better physically and emotionally! and that makes me feel better! I can’t imagine not offering that to him!

I have always been really thankful to have met all 6 of my great-grandparents (my dad never knew his dad so its just his mom and step-dad on that side, so only one set of GG’s for me) 2 lived far away but the other 4 lived and 1 still lives close enough for me to visit. I feel so blessed by this becuase i have gotten to know thier stories, i remember thier faces, their hugs, the sound of their voices, and even their smells. I was even lucky enough to spend my summers w/on of my great-grandmas learning how to corchet and cook from her. I have such wonderful memories of my great grandparents and something i have always wanted is for my son to have fond memories of his.

Yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving with my family, and i got a bit of my wish. I don’t know if Harvey will remember it or not but i have a fond memory of Him with his great-grandfather. Harvey was so excited to see Papa, he sat with him for a while and then played with him. When Papa talked Harvey would watch him. It warmed my heart to see them together. Dear Santa,

I know Christmas is coming so I thought I would put in my 2 cents as to what I want for Christmas.

First of all my mommy and daddy say I need the following things J

Shoes Size 4 (hard sole, converse or vans, Low tops)

Clothes from H&M or Gift Card (Size 9-12mo or 12-18)

Crew Neck Tee shirts (9-12months/ Not onesies)

(plain ones can be found at H&M American Apparel or Walmart caries white ones)

Hanes Sweat Pants (Walmart Carries them, Size 9-12months)

But what I really want is Some Veggie tales DVDs, Books and Toys! I really like toys I can manipulate, ones with lights and sounds that do things for me aren’t as fun. I would like any kind of wood toy, Balls, Tools, puzzles and instruments. I really like the Melissa and doug toys at target and toys r’ us and the Fisher-price Little people and animals. I am also having fun learning words and sounds and the Leap Frog fridge phonics magnetic letter set is a ton of fun! I would really like a set of Lincoln logs. And Lastly I love taking pictures with my daddy’s Camera so I would like my own Digital camera VTech makes a Digital camera that is kid proof called the vetch kidizoom plus (toys r us carries it).

And since I am writing I want to put in a wish or two for my mommy and daddy.

Mommy would really like gift certificates to Anthropologie or H&M to buy her self some clothes. She would also like some new sewing and crafting books….. Martha Stewarts Encyclopedia of crafts, The creative family and handmade home by Amanda Soule, Lotta Jansdotter’s Simple Sewing for Baby and the last books she wants are called Sheparding a childs heart and mitten strings for God. And lastly a gift certificate to Jenny’s fabric on Magnolia.

Daddy Would really like some Tom’s Shoes (Botas is the style name), a new Angels hat (brand new era, size 7 and 3/8). Call of Duty modern warfare 2 for xbox, an xbox live subscription, H&M gift card to get some new clothes. Starbucks and barnes and noble gift cards.

Thanks so much for making my Christmas more enjoyable! Looking forward to the holiday season and the smiles on everyone’s faces.

Hypnotic Leadership

Review most models of leadership and they come down to these behaviours on the part of leaders:

Creates and communicates a clear, compelling vision

Creates and consistently applies a set of explicit values

Attaches a coherent strategy to the vision, aligned with the values

Persistence, resilience and flexibility

Positively influences thoughts, feelings and behaviours of others aligned to Vision and Values

Engenders positive beliefs in followers focused on the vision and values

Creates focused attention and action on what really matters; the vision and values

Actively builds productive working relationships

Trait theories of leadership seek to describe the personality traits or characteristics of effective leaders. The problem with trait theories is that they either assume leaders are born and cannot be made (not a useful starting point for any kind of leadership development programme!) or they simply fail to explain how the given traits can be learned.

Assuming, simply because it is useful to do so, that any trait is merely a set of typical, habitual thinking, feeling and behavioural responses, we can begin to describe in detail the responses which are most effective in leadership terms.

Leadership is really just a set of behaviours deployed by a leader which results in the achievement of a desired outcome within a given set of moral constraints. Picking the right set of thoughts, feelings and behaviours for any given situation is the real essence of successful and effective leadership.

Leadership cannot be placed in a bucket. It is a process; a sequence of behaviours, applied appropriately. Behaviours are learnable. Some people will learn the behaviours more easily than others.

The set of behaviours required to effectively and successfully lead any endeavour to the outcome aspired to, is essentially the same set of behaviours used to induce hypnosis. These are behaviours which induce states of mind, beliefs, attitudes and behaviours in a group of followers leading to them accomplishing the desired outcomes and vision, in alignment with the values.

Given that people do not make most of their decisions based on exhaustive and conscious evaluations of minutiae, but to a large extent respond on the basis of what fits with their unconscious beliefs and what looks, sounds and feels right, a good leader has to be highly skilful at triggering specific thoughts (images and internal dialogue), feelings and behaviours and at installing appropriate beliefs. They also have to be adept at attaching positive feelings to these beliefs and associated behaviours. This is, quite simply, exactly what a good hypnotist does.

In hypnosis a hypnotist seeks to trigger a given state of mind and to install (sometimes out of conscious awareness of the subject) given beliefs, values and automatic responses in terms of thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Leadership and Hypnosis are synonymous.

The big mistake many less effective leaders make is to try to convince people to follow them by using pure reason. If this was the sole basis of how and why people responded to ‘leadership’ then Adolf Hitler would never have succeeded in gaining power. Hitler’s appeal was not rational, it was hypnotic. Of course his vision and values absolutely sucked, but you certainly could not accuse him of being rational.

This is not to say that reason has no place in a leader’s strategy, but that reason alone will not induce compliance, motivation nor inspiration and action.

What induces compliance, motivation, inspiration and action comes down to a few key phenomena which anybody can learn to access, utilise and install if they have the desire to do so.

These are association, belief and automaticity.

To learn how to access, utilise and install these key phenomena in a profound and consistent manner you need to attend my Charismatic Leadership programme. There is no alternative.

Briefly, association is the basis of all learning including the learning process which leads to beliefs. Beliefs are merely a complex of sequences of associated thoughts, feelings and behaviours. When you can trigger such sequences of associations in others, in a manner which is focused upon your vision and consistent with your values automatically (i.e. outside of the conscious awareness of your followers) you are an effective and potentially successful and charismatic leader.

You do not need academic theories of leadership. In fact most such theories are, in practical terms, just so much sophisticated twaddle. Getting an MBA will provide you with lots of business knowledge and skills, but it will not make you a charismatic and successful leader. Read the previous paragraph again….

Mayor Ralph Becker Signs Anti-Discrimination Laws

San Francisco signed Fair Workplace and Housing laws into effect with Harvey Milk and Mayor Moscone in 1979, now 30 years later Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker signs his name to the list of champions of human rights.

This afternoon, before a crowd of 50-100 people, Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker follow the recommendation of the Salt Lake Human Rights Commission and signed into law the recently approved Fair Workplace and Housing ordinances with cheers from onlookers. Earlier this year, the Human Rights Commission, led by Jon Jepsen delivered a report to the Mayor and the City Council detailing discriminations that are being visited on a large number of Salt Lake City residents. According to the report, members of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community in Salt Lake are being unfairly treated, as under current laws in Salt Lake it is legal to fire, refuse to employ, evict and refuse housing based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

“Salt Lake is behind the majority of this country” when it comes to these rights said Jepsen, and something needs to be done about it. The Mayor went further and said he hoped these rights would spread “throughout the rest of the state.”

11 Months

Harvey is now 11 Months and today he went in for his check-up. He weighs 19lbs 11oz and is 28inchs tall. he has 4 teeth with a 5th cutting the gum. He smiles all the time but if you can get him to laugh you are a pro he’s a tough crowd. He says lots of words… Dad, BABA, dog, duck, fish, Hi. he has tried to say nicholas and occasionaly says MA. He yaps like nicholas (my moms dog) and loves to talk and make sounds all day long! He is still doing great at sitting on his potty, crawls up a storm although he prefers to cruise furniture. He is ready to walk just has had a bit of anxiety with the move which the doctor assured me is normal and he should be up and walking soon. He gives kisses, big open mouth kisses, so beware especially if your a dog or my feet! He feeds likes to pretend to eat imaginary food andcan feed himself. His favorite foods at turkey, bananas. and he does some awesome tricks, like waving with both hands at the same time in different methods. one he waves side to side the other he opens and closes. But the best laugh this month was when he was eating his lunch watching TV in the living room, i went into the other room and when i came back he was standing at the coffee table. i asked what he was doing and he laughed i walked over and he had taken all his turkey outta his bowl and put it in Mame’s glass bowl that was on the coffee table, and was eating it outta there.

He is the highlight of our life and a joy each day, he constantly makes us laugh and we love learning the world and God through a new set of eyes.

Dirt-slinging divorcees Katie Price and Peter Andre have called time on their ultra-public war of words, temporarily at least, after son Harvey fell ill in a swine flu scare.

The couple have been exchanging verbal and written swipes at one another since their ever so acrimonious split this summer.

But they have rightly seen fit to put that behind them now Harvey, eight, is poorly. What a shame it has taken this crisis for them to stop the battling – which frankly isn’t everyone sick of? – and act like grown-ups.

Apparently Harvey was taken ill on Wednesday, running a temperature, unable to keep food down and having problems breathing.

Katie is still on her book tour so it was her mum, Amy and a nanny who took Harvey to the East Surrey Hospital in Redhill where doctors said he would need to stay in for observation.

Harvey has a condition called septo optic dyspraxia which means he is partially sighted and needs round the clock care. He is also severely autistic.

All this means a bout of swine flu, which is more dangerous for children under 14 anyway, could lead to some serious complications for Harvey.

Katie and Peter both rushed to his side as soon as they were notified, Peter having to cancel plans to switch on the Christmas lights at a London store.

Let’s hope Harvey is OK and maybe this could be the event that builds bridges between Katie and Peter.

It’s clear they loved one another deeply once and I’m sure they still have feelings for one another, masked by pain and anger. Love isn’t an emtion that evaporates easily.

And it’s been a shame that the pair have come to a point where they could only play out their rows and rebuffs in public rather than get together and try and work things out in private.

Because who are the ones who are suffering? The kids, Harvey, Junior, four, and Princess Tiaamii, two, of course. While Katie and Pete have been in the headlines constantly since their split – seemingly with the view any publicity is good publicity, especially on Katie’s side – it’s been the poor kids who have been the innocent victims, picking up the negative vibes and surrounded by acrimony.

Only a few days ago Katie was on This Morning complaining that Peter refused to meet her in private to talk and claiming that’s all she wanted to do to stop the backstabbing. But by even mentioning it on TV couldn’t she see she was simply fanning the flames of the fire?

And the appearance of her new beau in drag to promote her book – great publicity – she even admitted it – but not the action of someone who’s looking to put the rowing behind her.

Love her or hate her Katie Price certainly has an eye for a business opportunity, but at what cost?

And Peter, he plays the nice guy but his apparent entrenchment certainly hasn’t helped this fractured family forge a new way of living.

Let’s hope the priorities change.

Associated Press/Amanda Lee Myers—A murdered young woman buried as Jane Doe in Colorado 55 years ago. An Arizona family puzzled and saddened as Dorothy Gay Howard’s disappearance stretched into decades.

It took a historian, a detective and a determined family member to make the connection after more than a half century that these two people were one and the same.

Howard’s younger sister, Marlene Howard Ashman, the last surviving member of the immediate family, was relieved last month when authorities announced the identification.

“It was just complete and utter shock,” said Ashman, who lives in Mena, Ark., but spoke to The Associated Press from Newport, N.C., where she was visiting her daughter.

“All these 55 years, I guess I learned as a child to put it in an abstract form so I could deal with it; it’s easier to accept,” Ashman said.

But the younger sister is grappling with the fact that Howard was murdered and is aching to know who killed her.

“Now that I know, it isn’t so much that she died, but the horrible death,” she said.

Boulder County Sheriff’s Detective Steve Ainsworth, the lead investigator in the case, said Howard died of blunt-force trauma. She couldn’t be identified because her body was found a week after she was killed, and animals had gotten to her face and fingers.

At the time, the mystery made headlines across Colorado, and Boulder residents raised enough money to buy her a gravestone, which read “Jane Doe — April 1954 — Age About 20 Years.”

Boulder County sheriff’s officials have credited historian Silvia Pettem with encouraging them to renew efforts to identify Jane Doe. Pettem became interested in the woman and her story after visiting the cemetery in the 1990s and writing the book “Someone’s Daughter, In Search of Justice for Jane Doe.”

Meanwhile, Howard’s grandniece Michelle Marie Fowler decided to contact Ainsworth after reading an article about Jane Doe and suspecting for years that Howard had been killed.
