I bought this when our son turned 3 because it was actually one of the few toys I remember from my own childhood. Maybe it’s just *ours*, but it seems really hard to turn. Our 5 year old can make it go, but it still takes him some time, too. They like the music and the IDEA, but it’s definitely not the favorite it was when I had mine. It seems to spin pretty freely when there is no weight on it, and we’ve tried it on tile as well as carpet, and it’s just as difficult on both surfaces. I am not sure what the deal is, but it’s still entertaining to our boys. The biggest downside, as a parent, is the volume. I had to put half-dead batteries in it because the music is REALLY loud and even our 5 year old didn’t like it at first. The biggest downside from a kid is the difficulty to get it spinning. Overall, it was a cool toy for the money.

Playskool Musical Sit N Spin (colors may vary) Customer’s Reviews

Christmas – Maureen A. Getz –
I have had the sit n spins before and my kids loved them. This one is a Christmas present.

sit and scream – amy – boulder, colorado
We bought this toy for our 2 year old son and we were very disappointed with it.

The music is the worst I have every heard coming from a toy – ever. Both the choice of music is horrible, but it also sounds terrible. To loud but also muffled. It shocks me that any company would put their name on a product that would sound like this.

It is also really hard to put together and my husband puts things together for a living, so hard for him says a lot.

We made the mistake of giving it to our son before we tried it ourselves to make sure it does indeed spin, it does not.

My son has a very hard time getting it to move more than a few inches from one side to the other. I tried to help him by spinning him on the sit and spin and it works a bit better, but no were near a full rotation. Giving what this toy should do, I call this a complete failure.

My son does enjoy pulling his animals on it and spinning them around like a merry-go-round and he makes me go for spins as well. I was not worried about breaking it so I climbed on. At 5′2 and 125 lbs I am able to fit and I can spin myself dizzy by pushing off the floor with my feet or hands but it is way to much trouble and not fun at all. It does not however seem like it would break under my weight. (Not that I recommend this of course.)

I was not looking to work so hard to make a toy work for my son, so we took the sit and spin away but did not hide it well enough and my son found it and brought it back into the family room and we did not want to take it away from him again.

We now call it the “sit and scream” because it upsets him that he can not make it move on his own the way I can, but he loves being pushed and watching me spin around, for a very long time in fact for his age. It also upsets him that the button on top where the music should come from does not work when he hits it. It is obvious to him that something should happen when he presses the top part so just removing the batteries may not work for some families.

We have bought the “spin around” instead and will swap it for the “sit and spin” as soon as it arrives. I really hope it is better than the “sit and spin” This “sit and spin” had been the worst toy experience we have had so far, but I give it 2 stars because it did make my son happy and I guess other parents could just help push their children, esp if returning would be a hassle, but for me it is honestly too much work. My husband it NOT looking forward to getting this back in the box…

JOE: The Rise of Cobra. Under license by Hasbro, Inc., G.I. JOE: Operation H.I.S.S. focuses on two of the brand’s main characters, SCARLETT and SNAKE EYES, as they combat the latest plot of the evil and menacing COBRA organization.

The war against COBRA has only just begun as writer Brian Reed (G.I. JOE Special: Agent Helix) unveils the return of the wildly popular STORM SHADOW character and introduces a sinister new character, brought to life by the dynamic art team of Augustin Padilla and Alex Cal, from the popular G.I. JOE: Origins series. G.I. JOE: Operation H.I.S.S., a five-part miniseries, draws readers into a world of danger that threatens to corrupt the heroic G.I. JOE team member, DUKE. Joe Corroney (Star Trek: Mirror Images) provides the variant covers to the hottest title yet to spin out of G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra.

“The G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra publishing program has been one avenue of support for the film’s storyline—until now. With Operation H.I.S.S., we chart new territory and are adding to the strong mythology developed for the film,” said Andy Schmidt, IDW’s G.I. JOE editor. “This series is not about filling in holes and tying up loose ends, it’s about big, over-the-top action while emphasizing what makes these characters great.”

In this latest G.I. JOE adventure, DUKE goes undercover to infiltrate COBRA and encounters MAJOR BLUDD, who makes his first appearance in IDW’s comics.

Repacks! – –
This set is just repacks. The Stass Allie is the exact same mold as the Adi Gallia in scene 3, but painted darker. Agen Kolar is just a repack of the Eeth Koth figure released in the Power of the Jedi Line and is in a weird action pose. Shaak Ti is okay, but not great.

The Classic Games Collection from Hasbro contains four games: Clue, Life, Monopoly, and Scrabble.

The best game of all four contained in the collection is undeniably Clue. It’s too hard to play it with another player, and the more opponents involved, the better. Clue offers that with up to five computer players with three different levels: novice, normal, and expert. I went by each of three different levels, and there is a difference in terms of solving the mystery. The expert level feels pretty good and appropriate with no cheating like knowing the clues ahead of time or what cards I have. So, I was satisfied with the game play although I feel that every time somebody suggests three clues, it goes pretty fast. At the same time, it causes me a headache to watch the lighting and the animation video. If I turn it off, the asking of the clues goes real fast that I am more than certain to miss everything. It’s just that I want to see that feature fixed up like the asking of each character in a list compiled by the computer. I don’t want to use the auto-scribing of the clues because that completely takes away the basic concept of the game. Regardless, I’ve had a lot of fun playing Clue. As a word of warning, Clue will more likely not work on your PC because of some malfunction, but for me, it seemed to work just fine on my HP laptop with Vista Windows.

Life is, in my opinion, the worst game of this collection because it’s so boring and requires nothing but luck. The game is mostly point-and-click and landing on spaces after a spin. My chief complaint of Life is that the game board is too big to see everything. So, if I want to see the spinner, I can’t see where I am moving to, and if I want to see where I am moving to, I can’t see the spinner. Most of the time, I don’t know what the heck is going on except for pluses and minuses of the monetary sums. After a while, the game gets dreadfully boring. For anyone else interested and liked the game a lot, the CD works fine without a glitch.

Monopoly is a game I’ve liked but gotten bored after a few games. The concept behind Monopoly is pretty simple: get the grouped cards, build houses/hotels, and grab the money. The hardest part of the game is getting the grouped cards especially with as many as five opponents. Luckily, Monopoly allows trading, and that’s where your game either gets made or broken. Like Clue, there are three levels of AI’s intelligence, and I find the Tycoon level the hardest and haven’t beaten that one yet. Still, I am pretty impressed overall. The game can be slow because I have to wait for each opponent to roll and move his piece, but worse is the annoying trade proposals which will halt the game for a while because I have to watch them. Overall, Monopoly is a very decently made PC game without any glitch.

Scrabble is actually a game for me because I’ve thought myself as a semi-hardcore player at it, but I’ve quit it due to addiction. There are many levels of AI’s intelligence, and don’t be angry that you find some of them extremely unfair. It’s so because they know the dictionary inside-and-out, and yes…the words are valid, if you can believe it or not. So, how to get back to the AI: simple…memorize the dictionary. That’s all there is to it. The CD went without a glitch.

Seibertron.com and TFW2005.com bring news from an exclusive conference call with Hasbro and Activision / High Moon Studios, talking about Transformers: War for Cybertron. Apparently this game is going to be more than just a game… it will be used as “cannon” in the Transformers lore. The game will tell the story of the civil war on cybertron between the autobots and the decepticons, before they fled for earth. Hasbro will be working with Activision in the development of this story.

Up til now, most of the story of the cybertron civil war was found in comics and not so much the cartoons. Only in episodes like “Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 2″, “War Dawn”, “Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4″, and “Forever is a Long Time Coming” from the original G1 cartoon do we get to see back in time to some of the Transformers history from Cybertron. Of course, Transformers: War for Cybertron may or may not use bits of pieces from these stories and/or from Transformers comics… time will tell. It seems that the game may be able to fit as pre-hisotry with G1 and/or the Transformers universe in general. One thing for sure is that it is NOT based on the Transformers Movie-verse, but it will affect where Hasbro takes the Transformers universe in the years ahead.

As far as a toy line, it’s likely coming… we just don’t know any additional details. As far as characters to expect in the game, Optimus Prime and Megatron are givens, and some screen grabs from the trailer show Ratchet (around 32 seconds into the trailer) and what is almost certainly Omega Supreme at the end of the trailer. Promotional pics also show Soundwave and Ironhide. From the conference with Hasbro and Activision, we should also expect other regulars in Transformers lore to show up: Starscream, Bumblebee, etc… But we should also expect some characters that may be familiar to hardcore fans that have not been seen as a toy or in a cartoon for quite some time. The question is who will that include? The Fallen (but not movie based)? Alpha Trion? Quintessons? Devcon (from the G1 episode “The Gambler”)? Guardian Robots? (after all, Omega Supreme was a Guardian Robot in G1) Scrounge?

Alpha Trion (from G1)

Multiplayer WILL be in the game. It will not be an afterthought.

Hasbro and Activision have been looking at other successful video game franchises that include multiplayer like Halo, Gears of War, and Call of Duty and have been taking “notes”.

Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime in G1 and in the Movie-verse, will voice Optimus in the game!

The game will come out in 2010. No month was specified, but sometime in the Fall seems likely (but not confirmed).

There are packs of chips etc, after all this is a cafe – but what is really nice about this set is that it comes with a car (to use for teh drive through) but it helps make the pony’s mobile in Ponyville – it also comes with a pony which has two wigs. This is the thing I like about these new sets, they come wtih ponys whose hair you can change.

There are other sets you can buy to complement this one, a salon you can buy which has several wigs, and a small pocket sized salon for Rainbow dash. The wigs mix and match so you can create new pony identities (lots of fun for the kids)

What annoyed me was it didn’t come with a letter box like the other ponyville houses so you can send mail to it. It would be great if the makers could keep the village consistency. It is a small issue though. Overall a great fun piece for the ponyville village, and like all the ponyville stuff, very hard wearing.

Dew to stay alert when our kids opened gift after gift.

Certainly Christmas has become commercialized through the decades. One can hear holiday songs in retail stores even before Thanksgiving now. The holidays seem to be about stuff, gifts, presents.

In the Bible, back a couple thousand years when Jesus was born, He was the gift. Quite a story. Born of a virgin soon to be married. Traveling back to Bethlehem for governmental census reasons. When Mary gave birth to Jesus in a lowly manger, three wisemen arrived bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Gold representing the most precious, highest value. Frankincense representing a calming, soothing and peaceful affect. And myrrh representing healing qualities.

Jesus was the biggest gift ever. Bigger than any Mattel, Hasbro or Fisher-Price best-seller. Jesus was born to be our Savior.

What is your gift? What are you bringing to your family? Your friends?

May CHRISTmas have more meaning for you and yours this season.

Recently, I got a new collector’s edition of Optimus Prime called “Buster Optimus Prime

Recently, I got a new collector’s edition of Optimus Prime called “Buster Optimus Prime” made by Takara from Japan.

It is a major improvement over the Leader Class “Revenge of the Fallen” Movie #2 released earlier this year by Hasbro. The paint job is much more detailed and gleaming. As a bonus and name-implied, the exhaust pipes convert to a giant “buster” gun.

I also started a new hobby that amazingly combines my illusion design skills and experience with my Optimus Prime collectibles. There is actually a tiny niche market with a larger community of enthusiasts who custom action figures and transformers toys by custom painting and modifying them. The main motivation for customisers is to create a realistic, non-toy plastic look of their favourtie action figures or toys. This is very similar to people who build model replica cars, planes, trains, ships or army vehicles.

Well, a couple of weeks ago, I started to think about how I would approach customizing my own Optimus Prime. After some thought, doodling and conceptualizing, I realized it was very similar with what I do with our illusions; specifically, redesigning an existing prop through remodelling, finishing and detailing. “360″ Sawing” and “The Spike Box” come to mind.

Many techniques I use for illusion designing (or redesiging) directly apply to customising toys. So, I set up part of my room to become my mini studio, well equipped to handle the customization of my own Optimus Primes.

I’ve already got three different concepts for custom Optimus Primes and have begun work on the first one since 7 Dec. Each one will likely take 6 – 10 weeks to complete. The process which I have developed is pretty elaborate.

I did loads of research with other customisers, some who have done awesome jobs, as well as general model car painters. I took the techniques that I think best suit me and my skill set and also “imported” a few special techniques from working with large scale illusions. I think the end products will be pretty cool and will feature one of a kind interpretations of Optimus Prime … if they turn out right.

The first one I’m working on is called (working title) “Old School” Optimus Prime. I’m actually working on a Leader Class Optimus Prime from Movie #1 but repainting him in his tradtional colour scheme but with a high gloss metallic finish. I’ve been working on this first one about 2 – 3 hours a day and after a week, part of the figure is only 40% done.

Will share more pics as the project develops.

Early version of Storm Trooper before filming for Star Wars even begin as desinged by Ralph Mcquarrie.

In early versions of Lucas’s story the Storm Troopers were trained in and used light sabers! As well as shields!

In General: Back in the early 80’s my brother bought a Ralph Mcquarrie “Star Wars” “Portfolio” with “Letterbox” style pre-production paintings for the “first” “Star Wars” film. I remember how my imagination ran wild with the “alternate” versions of all the main characters. I espescially dug the Luke vs. Darth Vader painting where Vader had this very wolf-like mask where the top helmet was much more Samuri looking and the mouth grill came out like the snout of a wolf (an Luke looked cool with the oxygen mask too).
The Stormtroopers looked cooler too, and they had lightsabers! and shields!
And the painting of the two droids was cool because R2 looked much more expressive and functional, and 3PO looked just like the robot from “Metropolis”.

Anyway, someone, somewhere, had the brilliant idea to actually make action figures based on these early pre-production paintings by McQuarrie!

I’ve managed to purchase the first 8 of the 12 thus far (Stormtrooper, Boba Fett, Luke, C-3PO and R2-D2, Chewbacca, & Ben Kenobi and Yoda) and look forward to the final 4 (Leia Starkiller, Han [George Lucas] Solo, Snowtrooper, and the one I’ve been wanting since around 1980: McQuarrie Darth Vader!).

Bottom line, amazing sculpts, genius idea, a must have for die-hard SW fans!

I wouldn’t use this gun for all-the-time-fighting. what i use it for is when the enemy is out of bullets and/or jammed, i snatch up the vulcan ebf-25 and bathe them in a shower of preferably sonic bullets. I give this gun a 5 star rating, and highly recommend it.

Then the tripod wasn’t working and the gun kept jamming. I recently was trying to fix the tripod when it just unlocked (turns out you must put weight on it), and a similar revelation soon followed with the jamming.

I bought this for my 4yr old boy… he loves it and has little to no trouble changing cartridges himself. We are on day two and still have the “web” stuff going strong. (Now, my son has had cans of string before and knows to conserve it, rather than just blasting the whole cans contents on the first victim he comes across)
He loves using the water just as much, and as said by another poster, makes it less expensive to refill than buying more web. (Though the web is really cool, and nothing beats seeing a boy standing there with a smile on his face, knowing he can take on the world… there is no bad guy that can beat him now!)
It seems to be pretty durable and well made, as well.

Hasbro Spider-Man 3 Deluxe Spinning Web Blaster Reviews

Strap the blaster on to your wrist and load a web onto the blaster. Then, pull the web back and release to launch it. Electronic web-slinging sounds add to the fun, while the included belt clip keeps the extra ammo at your fingertips. Blaster comes with belt clip and 6 far-flying webs. Requires 3 “AAA” batteries (not included). Measures 4.5″ x 3.25″ x 11″.

Hasbro Spider-Man 3 Deluxe Spinning Web Blaster Customer’s Reviews

Don’t waste your money – Mama Kim –
Parents, go with your gut on this one: My son saved his allowance for weeks & weeks to buy this toy, despite our warnings that it didn’t really look like it would work well.

First, the battery compartment was nearly impossible to open – we finally got it open after prying it up (and dinging the plastic) with a very small screwdriver.

Second, the web fluid instructions say, upon careful reading, to shake the can *after each use* – that’s really hard to do with the thing strapped on your arm.

Finally, no matter how often we cleaned it out, including after each time he squirted it, it only actually shot more than a few inches about 3 times. Shaking the can, pointing it up as per the instructions, cleaning the nozzle – nothing really made any difference. After less than 15 minutes, the can was empty and there were little piles of grey goo in the yard.

The water gun was marginally better, but you don’t get a very long period of water spray till yo uhave to pump it again.

My son was very, very disappointed and asked “Why do the toy people let kids buy their toys that don’t work?”

Unusable and web fluid is flammable – GMac – Potomac, MD
My 6 year old son had to have this toy because of the tv commercials and he’s spiderman’s number one fan.

Opening the battery compartment was difficult. I had to try 4 different phillips head screwdrivers and then resorted to prying the compartment open.

When I put the fluid cannister in, at first it would not discharge. When I moved it around some, I got it to discharge but rather than spray a “spinning web” it released a growing blob of sticky, toxic smelling goo which stuck to the front of the “blaster”. I had to tell my son that one of his key christmas gifts did not work. I felt really bad for a family that could only afford one gift for their child and this was it.

Because the goo smelled toxic and because it came from China, I took some outside and tried to light it with a match (the box says it is not flammable and not toxic). The goo immediately went up in flames. I suggest that Habro recall this sorry P.O.S. before someone burns their house down with it.

I have been searching for a decent game to play on my iPhone but have been undecided for quite a whi

I have been searching for a decent game to play on my iPhone but have been undecided for quite a while now.

I have gone through the majority of freebies and none are all that good. I’m not a big fan of sports games as I play FIFA 10 on my PSP almost every day, shoot ems ups are a bit dull and I’m rubbish at driving games. So, not a great deal of choice left!

Hasbro are normally quite good when it comes to games so I had a look at Monopoly. They have loads of reviews on iTunes for the game and it was in the top 10 when I last looked. I paid my £3 to download it and I am really, very genuinely, impressed. It’s very addictive and the content is awesome. I thought the 233 reviews were all positive, although I didn’t read them all.

I like the way you shake the phone to roll the dice, although it’s a bit tricky when you are walking because you have to keep stopping otherwise the dice just keep rolling!

I’m going to try and work out the best way to play the game so I tracked down their Facebook page and was impressed they have over a 1/4 million fans.

I can thoroughly recommend this game to anyone and it’s ideal for 1 player or more.
