Today you can see we have called in our backup model. This hat is too small for me, but it fits Lia just fine. This was never my hat anyway, it’s my brother’s (or Uncle Craig, as he is to Lia). It is definitely an old one, because it would have been his from when he was little. And now it looks cute on Lia! ha ha. Don’t get any ideas, though. She’s an Indians fan!

This hat is blue foam on the front and bill, and blue mesh in the back with a plastic adjustable strap. The front has an embroidered Yankees’ interlocking NY logo.

As you can see here, I had my usual trouble getting Lia to sit still for a second picture. She never likes the back to be photographed!

Well, I figured I’d share with you guys the collection of crochet I’ve been working on of late. These are my latest designs specifically for the toddler/preschool sized head. I’m putting together a collection of items to go in a local gift store and I have a custom order with some special considerations, so it was good timing for the two right now. These are all created from some of the softest fibers I’ve worked with and with the exception of one hat in this collection so far, out of fibers that are no longer available. The bows you see are not permanently attached to the hats yet, just in case my customers do not want a bow, with the exception of the orange hat, which I have already permanently secured. It has a blend made with a very unusual fiber that happens to be the softest of the bunch. The glass globe you see is the perfect size to display these.

Hopefully these designs will be just the thing for each of my customers!
I ventured to a blogging class which was quite interesting. I went to Kohls wear I bought a suit, a hat (pictured), two ties, and a vest. I also went to World Market where I devoured some strange tasting candies that aren’t sitting in my stomach very well. Ugh. It was slightly overcast today so that lightened my mood a bit. I was apparently asleep when it rained. Supposedly. The class was good. It taught me a few things. I quite enjoyed it as I said before. Anyway. I ate some Chicken Strips at Chick-Fil-A. They were delicious.

So a new trailer for “Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lighting Thief”. I liked the books although the writing was iffy. The whole story was well thought out and planned. The movie, however, looks much different. Not bad, but different.

I love the days that are both relaxing and productive.

After 8 hours of blissful sleep I got up to start the day. Pricer made me breakfast since I was whining about not having bread for toast. We head off to Home Depot for our Christmas tree.

We got a 5-6′ balsum fir. Much smaller than last year but just as nice. It already makes the apartment smell good.

Then I worked on a paper- last paper!!!! and headed off for lunch. We went to Regal Beagle. A cute place- amazing felted wallpaper- with good food but I suggest that folks go at night if you don’t want to hear kids yelling and their parents begging them to sit, eat, turn around, etc. When did kids become dogs?!?!?

Then off to CVS to develope pictures- fail. After selecting my pictures, editing, and resizing them the machine crashed and I lost my patience. But the afternoon is still saved since we went to Gap and I bought this amazing hat!!! I wore it around the store and embarrassed Price.

More homework, dinner, and now Pineapple Express while doing more homework.

Here are the results of my hat-a-polooza so far:

That’s Nutmeg from the Blackstone Tweed book. I used Valley Yarns Sheffield leftover from my Diminishing Ribs Cardigan, which was perfect for this project. Strangely, the pattern calls for knitting the hat flat and then seaming it. I don’t love seaming but it was such a short seam that it seemed quicker to do that than to re-formulate the pattern to knit it in the round. I had one nutty knitting session where I screwed up an important row and ended up spending 2 hours simply to preserve several nights of work (my lifeline was too short and had slipped out of about 1/4 of the stitches, making it useless). But I am pleased that I powered through that and finished it up.

Now that I’m re-evaluating my garment knitting, I am looking at my pattern books differently. So even if I never knit Nonpareil, I’ve gotten use out of the Blackstone Tweed book.

And here are some “scrappy” hats I whipped up for the upcoming craft fair at my kids’ school:

I really never pictured myself as someone who would look good in a cowboy hat, but I think surprisingly I am able to pull this off better than I thought I could. This hat was a gift from my brother-in-law, Court, from a trip out west. Definitely a cool gift, I think, and perfect for the blog.

This hat is black. And made of leather. And it’s a cowboy hat. Not too much more I can say about that. It has detail done in leather laces, and a hanging strap.

You can’t really put a cowboy hat on backwards, so let’s look at it again, this time without the little strap hanging down. See what I mean? Not too bad for an Eastern city boy.

I’m home. Waiting for the pizza to arrive. The Christmas fair at Ninni’s studio was super nice, with the perfect Christmas feeling. I sold three hats and I’m so pleased.

The problem is that I have found myself in an anti-climax. I have worked so hard and prepared so much for London next weekend and I’m not ready yet, and since yesterday I have prepared for the Christmas show today. So now all energy has poured out of me.

But pizza is on its way! And if I go up in the studio I will put on my cd-book and will hear the last chapter Time to get ready for London!

Back before El an I were married, during the 2004 Olympics in Athens, I remember expressing to her that I really enjoyed the Team Canada uniforms that were made by Roots, and how I would probably like a hat from Team Canada even more than the Team USA hats. The Team USA hats were trendy trucker mesh hats that year, and I was still opposing that throwback trend on principle at that time. So I was a little surprised and definitely happy to see that she bought me one as a gift that year!

It really is an interesting hat. It is red (no surprise there) with white piping around the bill and a velcro adjustable strap. The bill itself is actually very long, and the crown of the hat is composed of two pieces attached horizontally, making a “front” piece and a “top” piece, as opposed to the traditional pinwheel triangular panels. The front has an arched “Canada” in a very nice font, and the back has “Roots,” the company that designed the 2004 Canadian olympic uniforms. The left side has a white maple leaf with a red “04″ inside of it. The right side has the Canadian Olympic Team patch from that year, including a Greek-inspired motif.

This actually may be one of the most interesting hats I own. Just yesterday we were looking through the Zellers flyer and found this year’s Team Canada hat for the 2010 Vancouver winter olympics. Again, a VERY spiffy design. Looks like I’m going to have to angle for that one as a gift this year, too!
