I have done enough traveling thanks to my Royal Holiday vacation membership, and I have met all kinds of people to know that when you least expect them most people will surprise you, either with their generosity or their big heart or by going out of their way to help you and listening to you and your stories. People are nice and they didn’t get that way by being self-centered and small minded. All over the world and everywhere in America you find everyday heroes of different ages, people willing to to the right thing even if it causes them more than inconveniences  they are willing to risk more than their time for complete strangers, so cataloging a whole generation as selfish and narcissistic I have seen them young people feeding the homeless participating in charities and working their summer vacations to help improve other people’s lives, for them being labeled in the Generation Me gap would be insulting.

I don’t know if you have heard of Dr. Jean Twenge she wrote a book a while ago in 2006, a book called Generation Me in which she writes about all those born in the years 1970’s  to 1990’s  she says that we born in those years are the generation in which we think in first person. According to her those of us in that generation focus on the needs of the individual and not on the community, and she goes on saying we take for granted a lot of things amongst them the feel  good about ourselves, the thought that we are special and we deserve the best. We like our lives to focus on ourselves and our needs and our expectations. I have to be happy to make someone happy and I have to do what is best for me and I owe it to me attitude and so on you get my point.

In other pressing matters, tomorrow is thanksgiving and with this long weekend holiday we start the holiday season that ends only after New Year, so I feel today is a great day to think about what we are all Thankful for, those of us who are lucky enough to have jobs should be grateful for that, those of us who have health should be equally thankful, the most simple stuff  internet access, education, light power, knowledge, family , friends, values, we should be thankful we have all these blessings and are privileged over many people who strive to have clean water to drink. Instead of searching for the best turkey recipe or struggling and complaining about tomorrow’s dinner, be grateful you have someone to share it with. Instead of complaining how much you have to cook, worry and share with those who are homeless and have nothing to eat. Happy thanksgiving to you and your Family!

For a more deep and profound reading, I highly recommend catching up on your book reading during your vacation trips. Vacations that are supposed to be relaxing by the pool or the beach are great for reading long interesting books. So I like to call this reading escape my vacation inside the vacations, whenever a family trip is on course or friends are going around you doing things you don’t’ really feel up to doing yourself, then I pick up a book and isolate myself into the world of the story I am reading. I mostly like to read fiction novels unlike my mother who likes to read biographies especially from celebrities. I love to get capture by the plot and be so into the story I can hardly give up reading for any other activity.  I like to have my attention capture right from the start.

She’s Awesome

I’m a senior and I never had gray eyebrows before.  I am also the Alpha of the other two dogs. Yes, indeed I keep them in line and let them know when it’s time to come inside.  She has been a wonderful pet. We got her from the shelter. We think she is mixed with Shepard and maybe pitt  bull , definitely lab.  I was surprised to see those brindle legs turning silver too. I wasn’t to sure if we were going to make it when she was a puppy. She loved to eat my things, hummmm, could not figure out why it was my things when my son would leave his shoes out. I guess she loved me more…..Once we got past all that she is just the best ever and has the sweetest disposition ever. I Love ya Girl….. If you need to find some info on my dog’s allergy’s I do have a post.

Of course making one pie and finding the perfect mix of pumpkin and spices was fun and entertaining, I mixed and checked several recipes in the internet and on cooking books traditional and new, and went on a savoring quest amongst my friends and my family to find out which filling tastes better, I had several labeled jars and I asked anyone who would volunteer to try them and speak their mind. So pretty soon I found the perfect mix, that exact measure you have to put into the pumpkin pulp to have it taste exactly the way I wanted, and I had a winner. The trouble is that I don’t want to give out my secret, so the trick was on me, because every thanksgiving and every Christmas I am in charge of the pumpkin pies, and it is either that or giving my secret away, which I’m not ready to do ….yet.

I’m in charge of the pumpkin pie, not to brag but I make and amazing pumpkin pie, and I know it comes easy to me but baking one pie is delightful, but multiply that by four and you have to clean up a mess after you are finish cooking not to mention that the pie I make is from real pumpkins which makes the mess even tougher to clean. One Thanksgiving I tried to make a special original recipe pie and the other’s form a can and go figured I was left with three pumpkin pies for the office, so I really have to make the four of them or I will never hear the end of it. My mother put me up to this and without noticing I fell into the pumpkin pie trap. It all started when I tried to make a simple pie for the small dinner my mother was making, so I thought I pitched in and make a pie from scratch.

We all have come to rely on Oprah’s advice for a lot of things from what book to read to how to help those in need from animals to saving the planet. The causes for her retirement are not yet explained they are supposed to be released by her on tomorrows show, but if the rumors are true we should all be preparing ourselves for a great finale a marvelous goodbye and knowing the way she likes and enjoys work she won’t be far away from the entertaining business she just may be moving to another great project.  The rumors say it may be with the discovery channel and with the schools she runs in Africa for girls, she will probably be pursuing more educational endeavors.  The Oprah Show may not be with us forever but we will surely keep some of the great moments in our Tivo. And as the business woman she is the season’s best moments will soon be out in blu ray.

So today I learned that after 25 years on the air Oprah’s Winfrey TV show is coming to an end on September  2011. She entertains us everyday talking about every single subject I can think of, from eating issues to spelling bees, from delicate topics like Katrina to shallow superficial ones from traveling and taking vacations all around the world to the best places to live in the US. The TV show was and is always interesting and never boring, we will all remember Tom Cruise jumping on the couch, and many other unforgettable moments she shared with us.  I am definitely scheduling a Chicago vacation with my Royal Holiday membership points to go see a live taping of the show I enjoyed so much and thought it will never end. So I am guessing the tickets will be more demanded now that she announced she’s leaving.

Incredibile,oggi nemmeno all’ombra faceva freddo.Nemmeno dopo 3 ore seduta in 15 cm di neve,quella croccante,quella a cristalli.Boots slacciati e felpa.Del freddo nemmeno un brivido.

E la cosa è preoccupante,dio siamo già oltre la seconda metà di novembre.E sembra marzo.

Che tutta quest’ansia sia dovuta solo al ricordo della scorsa stagione?!Stagione che per altro ricordo con amore solo se penso alle trascorse condizioni metereologiche,neve a camionate.Forse sì.

Fattostà che non sto nella pelle.Ho addirittura il rimpianto del male alle gambe,o di quelle fantastiche giornate in cui dimentichi i guanti e ogni volta che stringi i cricchetti è una bestemmia.Quando sali in seggiovia con il tipo che hai conosciuto la sera prima e con nobile disinvoltura attacchi un bottone pazzesco,ignara che dal tuo naso penzoli una stalattite di moccio congelato.Quando ti squilla il cellulare e devi rispondere perchè è-proprio-la-telefonata- che-aspetti-da-tutto-il-giorno, e ovviamente sei nel mezzo di quel collegamento iper flat/contropendenza,e finisce che devi spingerti per mezz’ora e manco uno skier che ti offre una bacchetta.Ebbene,talmente ne ho voglia,che mi manca tutto questo.

Io quindi sto qua,con lo Yeti.Ad aspettare il ben noto risveglio “Hei è tutto bianco,viene grossa come pop-corn!!”.

What really bothers me about this whole generation classification is that you can’t categorize every single person born during these years in a label that she thinks describes us all. There are young people out there thinking about others, thinking about making this a better place for all of us, and there are young people born between the 70’s and the 90’s. Just because the addictions either to work drugs or internet are the ones that make the headlines it doesn’t mean that we are incapable of caring and looking outwards. So yes I bet you can find enough me centered individuals and many of them will be unable to ever show you any sign that they acknowledge the rest of the world  but I bet you will mostly find them amongst teenagers because that is exactly what all teenagers have been through no matter  when then where born.

As you can appreciate Ecotourism has a social component which includes a commitment with the community in which their activities take place. Ecotourism has to have a lot of different qualities in order to qualify as such. It has to achieve that the impact in the environment and the community is reduce to its minimal; they have to have and help create consciousness of environmental and cultural issues and has to promote positive experiences for all the parties involved in the eco touristic activities.
