I have some and couldn’t be more excited about it.
While this probably makes me sound like some addicted nutcase, I’ve actually had a wicked bad cough for the past week, and have been sleeping fewer and fewer hours each night, resulting in a bit of a daily haze for me. So, I am going to remedy this.
Plus, I’m going on an airplane on Tuesday and would rather not be forced into wearing a mask or having everyone terrified of me.

Is it only the lack of trust, the fear to trust? Or is there something else? I don’t know. I’m just tired and totally destroyed… What do I want except of oblivion? What do I have to do with all these feelings I have, all this anger, despair and deep offence? What do I have to… So many questions. And no answer.

My world is blurry and surreal
but I’m way to lost to care
Dazed in this hazy fog
bloodshot vision is unclear

Choking through this smog
I try to remain cautious
Searching for fresh air
I’m sickened and I’m nauseous

Why should I even care?
to breathe fresh air once more
since I engulfed myself in this haze
I forgot what the world was like before

Before I was stuck in this smoggy daze
I never appreciated fresh air
I never really acknowledged it
It was always just there

The air, I polluted it
because I didn’t care at all
This pollution can’t be reversed
It will choke me until I fall

Now my cloud is ready to burst
stress built up, I’m saturated.
Toxins struggle to leak out
but are stuck in this fog that I created

The pollutants. I try to let out
but they condense around me
I can never find any air
because this smog has found me.

This polluted haze around my brain
the cloud thickens and drives me insane
when will it rain?
When will I change?

You may not know this now, but at some point I think you will understand my love for Graffiti!

Throughout the 70’s & 80’s, many of these artists threw up tags and bombed on trains and walls all over the world.  Now, they have evolved into incredible talents in fine art.  One of these cool dudes is Eric Haze or “Haze” as he’s famously known. What’s pretty freaking awesome about Mr. Haze is that he had a huge solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Hong Kong.  Nice, right?!  I had the pleasure of going to the opening of his exhibit at the Level 2 Gallery in downtown NYC recently.

First of all, I got there late.  Anybody that knows me understands how awful I am with time.  Whatever, love me or leave me!  I get there and head upstairs to the gallery and I walk into the room, and its totally rocking.  The ambiance was on full tilt.  The people, the music, and the lofty venue with to die for huge windows set the scene.  The place was packed with the “downtown” likes and hipsters while DJ A-Trak and DJ Neil Armstrong spun the adrenaline.

Screw the art at this moment.  I can’t see a thing because there is too much activity and heat clouding my view.  Now, I’m sweating bullets!  I need a “free.99″ cocktail and one of those gi-normous windows to catch a breeze for a minute.  Not only did I find all of the above, but I also caught the aromas of the leaf (if you know what I mean).  Let’s get focused, I think to myself, and check out the art.  While doing so, I’m told KAWS and Jose Parla were there.  Check out these artists as well…Quality!

As an observer, his style is that of a minimalist that focus on lines and graphic shapes.  I did enjoy his black & white monochromatic pieces.  Don’t think I’ve ever seen art interpreted that way.  That felt good!  Overall, not really the type of art that I gravitate towards, but he’s certainly talented.  You have seen his work before even if you don’t know it.  His roster reads like a scroll from the old ass days..Public Enemy, Def Jam, Hip Hop logos, G-Shock etc..  You get the point.  If you don’t know him, then get to know him because he’s legendary!

The Museum of Arts and Design and American Craft Magazine are putting on a series of artists talks called In Print / In Process in which people like myself come talk a little and give a crafty demonstration. I can’t necessarily promise any profound insights into the world of wallpaper, but the MAD is a terrific institution and totally worth a visit. Plus thursday evening is pay-what-you-like style and perfect for these tough economic times. Eric Haze is proud to announce New Abstracts and Icons, a major solo exhibition in New York City of new paintings, drawings, and sculpture. It is the artist’s largest exhibition to date.

Deeply rooted in the graphic arts, Haze has established a vocabulary of personal symbolism with a repertoire representing departures of an abstract and minimalist nature. For New Abstracts and Icons Haze recontextualizes the aesthetic congruences of geometry, symmetry, and repetition through his iconographic lens. “This show represents a clear window into the process I have dedicated myself to over the last three years, with a deeper exploration of the minimalist and pop styles that have always informed my work,” says Haze.

New Abstracts and Icons will be the first event held at Level 2, a newly built-to-suit 2500-square foot gallery space on 812 Broadway and 11th Street. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served at the opening reception with world class DJs A-Trak and Neil Armstrong providing the audio.

Friday: Big tings cooking in brooklyn.

With the coming of November, comes the haze, the clouds, the rain.

It’s been a gloomy start to November, not only in the weather, but in school.  Things are not looking up.  Our enrollment are still dropping.  Unfortunately, because we are a magnet, we cannot accept new students until the beginning of the next semester in February.  I have not lost many students since they are mostly sophomores.  Most of our losses are in the junior and senior classes.  This is spelling disaster if the district decides to make more cuts and mid-year renorming.  I am going to be a displaced teacher if the district decides to re-norm.

This impending doom is hanging over my head.  I feel as if I am under a falling mountain that will hit me at any moment.  I enjoy my students and my school.  I get along with nearly all of my colleagues, and those I don’t like I still enjoy a civil relationship. 

This doom and gloom is affecting my mood and my affectiveness as a teacher.  I find that I am not very patient with my more challenging students.  I find myself constantly feeling exhausted, lacking the energy to grade assignments, clean my apartment, or even to take a day trip. 

I know that I will still have a job within the district if I were to be displaced, but that is not enough.  I want to stay where I am.  If I could spend my career here, I would be content.  I know there are times when I feel frustrated, but overall this is a good place.

Today, the sky is nearly overcast.  It cool, but not cold.  The clouds are starting to part.  The weatherman predicted rain.  Thus far, it has not rained.  I don’t mind rain.  It means my car will get a wash that is sorely missing.

I hope that my mind will clear, and I leave the haze.  Hopefully…

I’ve never drink like that before. Many little events, some big impressions. I saw Yazoo and Solv and got acquaintance with Yazoo’s girlfriend that’s rather nice. Trust level down… but it’s nothing.

I don’t know how could you read in my mind wich flowers of wich color I wanted last weeks. That’s amazing. But I feel shy actually…

(Thane) Audrey’s recent posts have highlighted some of the ways in which Delhi is more attractive as a place to live than it used to be, so I thought I’d highlight one big way that it’s less so.

The air quality in Delhi is unbelievably bad right now. It was monsoon season when we first moved here, so the rain cleaned up the sky a little bit, but the haziness now has to be seen to be believed. If you Google “Delhi weather” right now, the following pops up: “Forecast—Smoke”. That’s right, not smog or fog or even haze; the official weather forecast is smoke. And that’s been the forecast for days on end now. You actually can’t see clearly all the way down the street. When we played tennis the other day, Audrey was slightly obscured by haze even though she was only the length of the court away from me. Here’s a view of the city skyline…

The haze isn’t just an annoyance, but it can cause death, as in this news story from today about five railway workers who were run over because they didn’t see the train coming.

The sources of the smoke hanging over the city are many—they include industrial pollution, motor vehicle emissions, and the scofflaws who burn trash in large piles all over the place. And it is a major public health menace as well. If Audrey and I had kids, we would have to think twice about bringing them to Delhi for a year, but there is no evidence that one year’s exposure has any long-term health consequences for adults. As for short-term consequences, well, I’ve got a nagging smoker’s cough and perpetually runny eyes. Hopefully we’ll get some wind or something and ease the burden at least somewhat.
