I must apologize that I’ve been a bit late with familiarizing myself about High Definition (HD) videos (Bluray) and, of course, HDTV. The reason has nothing to do with my interest as I would be ecstatic to have a nice LCD sitting in my living room as opposed to my aging CRT. It’s more of an economic excuse… but that’s for another blog.

I recall the first plasma screens showing up at home shows back in the 90s… boy, was I impressed. Most of the demos were of wildlife and nature… nice closeups of sea creatures crawling along the ocean floor or a bunch a toucans in front of some lush jungle eating colorful berries. The price was outrageous so that was the end of my viewing experience.

Lately I’ve had the chance to watch a few Bluray movies as well as spend some time viewing several LCD screens and I’ve made a startling discovery… HD can be ugly!

Case in point, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This Disney classic has been tweaked a number of times over the years but now its available in Blueray format. It looks to be over-focused. The feature no longer has the easy, flowing animation along with the warm colors of the past. It appears hard and the animation now looks like a collection of those animated flip books that used to be around when I was a kid. Alas, it is now destroyed.

People can be pretty rough in high-definition as well. Those flawless Hollywood starlets now show their very human facial shortcomings including wrinkles, pock marks from puberty, and puffy bags beneath the eyes.

Same goes with the talking heads I see on the nightly news. I read that they digitally smooth the faces of folks but it appears to be used sparingly on the shows that I watch.

On the other hand HD programming is like crack for the eyes. As soon as its gone, it’s noticeable. Standard definition is like giving a starving dog a rubber bone in the world of HD. Kind of similar to drinking that watered down orange drink I used to get in military school.

Imagine the hurdles that await me when they start selling holographic televisions…

Sin duda Serious Sam fue uno de los juegos que marco historia, favorito de muchos amantes de los First Person Shooters [FPS] ahora ha regresado y esta vez mejorado.

Gráficos en HD y acción pura [como siempre...] característico de este juego, disparos, disparos, más disparos, armas… muchaaas armas y los enemigos  que no paran ni un solo instante; podremos verlo en XBox 360 y PC vía descarga en el próximo mes de Diciembre.

La gente de Qneo ha lanzado recientemente una aplicación bien peculiar llamada Blower, la cual es capaz de hacer que tu iPhone expulse aire (literal) pudiendo realizar diversas funciones con él.

La aplicación utiliza el altavoz integrado del iPhone para generar aire, con un no muy agradable sonido de por medio. Según sus desarrolladores “es capaz de apagar las velas en tu cumpleaños o refrescarte en un momento de calor mientras conduces y mucho más”. Vaya curiosidades se encuentran en este mundo.

Blower se encuentra disponible desde la App Store a un precio de $0,99 (aunque creo que hay mejores maneras de gastar $0,99). Funciona únicamente en el iPhone y requiere iPhone OS 2.2. Si eres uno de aquellos curiosos que se anima a probar Blower, no olvides comentarnos tu experiencia, a ver que logras hacer con esta “herramienta”.

Que Sony está más que comprometida con el nuevo mundo del 3D ya no lo duda nadie. Precisamente estos días está presentando en Japón sus últimas novedades en lo que a equipamiento 3D se refiere, desde cámaras, pantallas hasta proyectores.

Y el último grito es esta jumbo-pantalla de 208 pulgadas, basada en retroiluminación LED y compatile con imaginería 3D. No es que sea grande, es que es gigante.
