Well, it’s finally 2010. I’ve heard that even numbered years are the lucky ones, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. 2009 was…interesting. I got back from Brazil and started life in NYC all over again – new job, new place, new outlook on life. Here, at the beginning of a new year, I’m facing various other turning points, and hopefully optimism and a lot of hard work will continue to pay off. I haven’t made any official resolutions, as I often make goals for myself throughout the year, but I think I may do a “Dreams” poster, which is something I learned about from some of my Brazilian students. Instead of necessarily creating a long laundry list of personal aspirations/goals, many people cut out pictures that encompass the things – be they material or otherwise – they want to receive, earn, achieve, etc.

Considering that doing this very thing kept my spirits up as I searched for a job in the recession wrecked USA, I have complete faith in its power, if anything, to inspire and motivate the person who created the poster. For me, creating this site was also one of my dreams, and something I started working on when I was away. I hope to do the best I can to continue growing from here and making the site more and more awesome each day.

One huge aspect of this site is clearly music, and the focus on music as a soundtrack for our lives. It helps us as we grocery shop, cook, do laundry, work, and get ready to start and end our days. For me and many people I know, music is also a big part of setting our moods and behavior. If I listen to amazing music as I get ready for work or for going out, it makes everything better. I hope that those of you who read this site can gain something from it as well.

I wanted to open the new year with what will become a monthly feature for this site, a tracklist (you can download!) that will (hopefully) eventually became a full set/mix. I really, and I mean really are starting to ‘come to terms’ with this new In Flagranti track.  For only being four minutes it packs quite the punch while combining almost every genre I’m digging right about now.  I’m talking disco, funk, electro, house, and everything in between.  So needless to say, I’m frustrated with how good In Flagranti are… bastards!

Headman feat. Dieter Meier – Gimme [In Flagranti Remix Blog Edit]

Setting the tone for the weekend perfectly!

The courtship between the two Swiss Kanzlers – Headman – and stocking/tights-millionaire/sometime Yello-frontman – Dieter Meier – is a feast of dimensions laid on the table in the shape of the wicked Relish release – “Gimme”.

Admittedly the last Yello album didn’t have me going. You could raise the question weither Dieter Meier is actually in real need for making records. After all his bank manager must have him on his X-mas card list. If not at the very top! But I guess – Dieter has got the music running in his blood like Headman and the rest of us.

Yello has always been frontrunners for setting the stage for Drama, and in this fierce, mid-tempo, arpeggio-driven wriggler remix by Kango you have drama oozing out of its every pore.

Dieter Meier does what he does best – and the rest is sent to high Heaven by Kango on an awesome arpeggio shuttle, which has a gorgeous transition towards the end making you come back for more.

The package equally includes mixes from Bang Gang (doing The Pogo!), and In Flagranti (doing The Strut!), but the real cinematic drama is in the Kango mixes.

Kolejny remix Shazzy, czyli Disco Relax w natarciu.

Heard this one on the Data Transmission podcast and can’t get it out of my head.  Fat bass and grimy 80s synth?  Count me in.

It’s strange how all DFA artists and releases always come in bunches – isn’t it!

You don’t just get one release. No – suddenly you have both James Murphy and his “Bye Bye Bayou” vinyl only project, a new Yacht single – “Waste Of Time” – and this rather wicked mix session from Tim Sweeney’s ever intriguing Beats In Space radio show in New York featuring DFA artist – Shit Robot – with James Murphy himself in tow!

Needless to say there’s some awesome stuff included in this mix. The opening track itself (played by Sweeney) – Headman’s new single with Yello frontman Dieter Mayer on vox duty – “Gimme” – in its Kango’s Autostrada dei Laghi Remix – is worth this download alone. Moody, intense, dramatic Space-Disco at its best, which will appear on Headman’s forthcoming single on Relish.

As for the rest – well – it’s Shit Robot, New York and DFA – I think you can pretty much do the math on this one!

I can’t help feeling completely euphoric over the re-release of weirdo, 80’s, San Fransisco, New Wave/Punk, synth-Gods – The Units – and their completely irrestible – “High Pressure Days”.

The original surfaced sometime in the early 80’s with its sound reminiscent of Talking Heads, and later gave much inspiration to bands such as The Rapture and Late Of The Pier.

The track has now been picked up and  re-released by Relish Records aka all-round nice geezer Robi Insinna aka Headman, who have dusted the old beauty off, and given it some wicked remixes, while staying faithful to the original, coming courtesy of Headman himself and British dabber Rory Phillips.

Both remixes are pretty close to each other, but the cream of the two is undoubtedly the Rory Phillips mix, which is currently getting hammered by Aeroplane.

As you can imagine – music is flowing thick and fast in our home, but of all the stuff coming out the speakers – this track is the one having my kids leaping around like idiots (great taste – kids!)

Uno de los cabecillas del sello Gomma (Munk, Tomboy, Who made Who, In Flagranti… etc) Manhead combina elementos del rock y el funk con bases que dinamitan la pista de baile. Partícipe de la primera era post-funk junto con artistas de DFA o Output Recordings lleva mas de 10 años con excelentes trabajos como remixer para gente como Tronic Youth, Dj T, Gossip, Franz Ferdinand o Zombie Nation entre otros.
