I needed a headset that I could use on Vent, and got the Dynex DX-840 from Best Buy.  The main reason I got it, was because I needed something I could hear Gary, TV, or radio with one ear and have the other listening to Vent.  Super easy plug and play usb, and sound quality is great.

I guess I can afford to let myself go now that Aimee’s stuck with me.  Ahhhhh, the joys of married life.

Jaha ja, idag var visst melodikrysset lite knepigt. Många har redan varit inne i min blogg och letat efter lösningen. Men jag har varit ute på annat och har inte hunnit skriva in den tidigare, men nu kommer den. Jag kan hålla med om att det var lite knepigt bitvis, dels ska man kunna svaren, dels ska man stava rätt också. Det ryska stjärnskottet hade jag aldrig kunnat gissa mig till, opera är inte direkt mitt expertområde. Men min vän Mr Google, han är bra på sånt, tryggt med såna vänner! Idag fick jag klara mig själv, utan mina vanliga kryssvänner, för jag kryssade lite i språnget. Åkte till barnbarnet tidigt för att hjälpa henne lite med kläderna hon skulle ha på sin dansuppvisning. Plockade med mig kryssplanen och headsetet för att kunna lyssna via radion i mobilen. Sen for jag direkt vidare till Djurås för att underhållas en stund av mängder av dansanta barn. Jag gissar att de var omkring 100 stycken allt som allt. I vissa nummer fanns samtliga på scenen samtidigt och i vissa var de uppdelade i mindre grupper. Temat för årets dansuppvisning var 3M – Michael (Jackson), Madonna och så Mamma, fartfyllt och energiskt. Det ser roligt ut, man blir riktigt sugen på att hoppa upp och hänga med. Säkert är det rätt konditionskrävande också, så det vore nog bra träning för min del.

Hade tänkt sköta om lite julhandel innan jag for hemåt igen, men det fick bero till en annan dag, hade ingen lust. Tog istället en tur till ett av mina favoritställen, där man kan köpa thaimat. Det blev väl en liten omväg, men det står jag ut med utan prut. Det luktade så gott i bilen på vägen hem, så jag kunde knappt hålla mig!

Nu ska jag väl inte glömma krysslösningen för v 48. Den kommer här:

Karenanya, hari ini saya putuskan untuk mencoba mengunjungi Samsung Center yang ada di Matahari Singosaren Solo. Meski setelah kerja sudah pukul 6 lebih, saya nekad juga, mau gimana lagi, musin seperti ini kadang tidak pasti tho, sekarang cerah besoknya hujan deres banget juga bisa. Saya pun benar-benar nekad, tapi begitu mau berangkat, dah sampai gerbang ada temen yang minta tolong buat diantar pulang dulu. Ya dah, anter aja deh.

Akhirnya perjalanan panjang mencari kitab suci ke Solo saya mulai setelahnya. Meski badan sudah agak capek ya tidak apa-apa lah, demi memuaskan hasrat mendenagrkan musik yang bermutu tinggi. Jam delapan lebih sedikit saya sudah ada di dalam Mall, mencari-cari tempat yang beberapa waktu ditunjukkan oleh seorang penjaga counter. Tapi saya tidak menemukan dimana Samsung Center itu. Akhirnya ya sudah, berotasi dulu di situ, muter ke semua arena.

Sampai akhirnya sampailah di kios iLufa, dari mbaknya yang jaga sih bilang, kalau jam segitu dah tutup dari jam enam tadi. Doh! Untuk headsetnya dia juga tidak ada, iLufa atas juga sudah tutup jam delapan tadi :pusing: tapi baiknya mbaknya nyaranin buat ke pegasus aja, mungkin mereka punya.

Datang ke Pegasus, mbaknya juga baik ternyata (makasih mbak dah boleh nyoba ) setelah omong-omong dikit dikasih pinjem dua headset buat dicoba. Meski memang, sebenere mereka sendiri juga tidak ada stok buat samsung, tapi denger-denger pake headset punya Nokia XM 5310 juga bisa, karenanya saya dikasih pinjem yang punyane 5310, dan sebenere jalan juag sih kalau langsung pakai colokan terujung, paling deket ear bud. Tapi kalau pakai tambahan konektor yang buat telepon itu malah suarane jadi kayak robot. Kasihan tuh mbak Mariah Carey, lagu sweethart-nya jadi ancur.

Dengan berat hati, saya pun pulang dengan tangan kosong, jam sembilan sudah menginjak bumi sragen lagi, set dah capek abis. Sebenarnya saya ingin membuat posting tentang wallpaper Samsung Beat b karya saya yang berhubungan dengan posting ini pada posting terakhir ini, setelahnya ngomongin aplikasi java. Tapi berhubung cerita ini juga ada kaitannya dengan Samsung Beat b, saya rasa tidak ada salahnya saya tu;is juga di blog ini.

A Penny Arcade a few days back got me looking at a new and very interesting piece of technology.

Okay, okay, so the whole thing seems like a bit of a pie-in-the-sky pipe-dream, but it’s interesting as a future possibility. Basically, a company called Emotiv has created something called the EPOC, which is a headset with sensors that pick up facial movements, emotions, and thoughts, and allows you to control certain applications without the use of a keyboard or mouse. Pretty impressive, eh? They’ve got their own software to help you use the EPOC in lieu of a keyboard, by translating movements or thoughts into certain key-commands or combinations.

Basically, this seems like a very expensive, and largely useless, toy. It’s hard to imagine this being used for gaming, or even general computer use. Whilst it would be awesome to have certain abilities in games triggered by thought, eliminating issues like not enough hot-bar space – yes I’m referring to you, Dragon Age – this gadget seems to… how do I put this… be sold as a lot more than it really is.

During one of the demos, they show that emotion can effect colour and music… I’m sorry, but if I’m upset by my game, frustrated at a particularly difficult encounter for instance, the last bloody thing I want is my gamma brought so far down that not only am I fighting for my life, I’m fighting to see. Of course, this would make me angry, which would probably cause a grand crescendo in the music, just the thing a frustrated, gamma blinded, angry gamer needs! See my dripping sarcasm there? That’s inhibited by my choice to keep this blog profanity free; keep that in mind.

Another demo showed someone using blinks and smiles set up to turn a little side-module, a laser. What if you just wanted to blink, or something made you smile? This who apparatus seems fraught with issue after issue, and apart from a few neat tricks, seems completely useless, and most assuredly not worth the US$299 that it’s retailing at, though of course you have to buy online from the Emotiv sight, too.

This started when I found out you could get the eye toy working as a web camera on windows by downloading some drivers. It was pretty straight forward, just had to find what drivers went with your camera model and off you go.

With Windows 7 now it seems to be even easier as just about every piece of hardware I have connected has installed itself with no issues.

I got the Beatles Rock Band set last weekend, and thought the mic might be good for talking to people on Team Fortress 2 etc on PC. I plugged it in and it installed itself, and worked pretty well.

Even better at the weekend I got a bluetooth headset for my PS3. After playing Uncharted 2 for an evening with my friend I thought this is great (much better than the usual type of headsets) so I thought about setting it up on my old PC.

Luckily enough for one reason or another a few years ago I had brought a blue tooth receiver for my PC.

I plugged that into my PC and Windows 7 installed it right away (Was a relief because I remember having problems with it on XP). I then took my blue tooth headset set it to broadcast, and the PC picked it up and connected to it right away. After that without having to set anything up I fired up Team Fortress 2 and it was working great.

So it is always worth trying your console hardware first before going out and buying the same thing for your PC. As both my PC headsets are no longer working this saved me a bit of money and got me a more comfortable PC headset all in one.

Another thing I use on my PC is my 360 Street Fighter Arcade Stick, which is great for arcade games.

Die Kophörer des Stereo-Headsets des Palm Pre überzeugen durch ansprechend schlichtes Design mit absolut guter Klangqualität. I recently was in need of a new bluetooth headset, the first one was far too loud on the receiving end up to the point that I was told to just go on mute on a conference call as others could not hear what I was saying at all. The first thing that I did, as often in testing, was to define what my desired end result was. For me what mattered most, above anything else, was the call quality on the receiving end. The other important factors were comfort, and a mute function (as my phone did not have one, and to mute with the conference call system, you had to press *1, something that is not easy while driving).

With the desired qualities in mind, I proceeded to do some research to try and figure out what device what meet my requirements. I found it was easy to narrow down the pool to a couple devices, the Jawbone Prime and the Plantronics Voyager Pro based mainly on editor and personal reviews. Both units were similarly priced, at the time the Jawbone prime was 120$ and the Plantronics Pro was 100$, so they were both upper end devices. This is where I ran into some difficulties; once I was down to the two devices, it was impossible to tell, from reading at least, which device would have the superior call quality. In words it is almost impossible to quantify call quality, often reviewers would say the quality was a four stars, or that it was better than its predecessor. I even found articles comparing the two devices, but I was surprised to discover none of them had any sound clips of what the receiving call sounded like. To me it seemed the only real way to get a feel for how good the call quality was.

This is when I decided move forward and do some testing of my own. I purchased both the Jawbone Prime and the Plantronics Voyager Pro headsets, and I then decided to leave myself a message on my phone, that way I could do a straight comparison of the receiving call quality. I actually ended up leaving messages twice for each device, as the first time I did not have a good idea of what I wanted to test, this was a good example of the importance of having various testing scenarios in mind. I wanted to hear the call quality in a variety of scenarios including, music playing, windows down, air conditioning pointed at face and different voice volume levels. (Unfortunately to hear the tests, you will need to actually download the .wav file, hopefully I can post them on another site that will stream them)

After listening to both clips it was clear that the Plantronics Voyager pro had superior receiving call quality. The Jawbone Prime, was almost perfect when I was not talking, but when I was the background noise started to leak through. Overall comfort was about equivalent for both devices, and the Plantronics Pro had mute functionality where as the Jawbone Prime does not.

I would therefore state that the Plantronics Voyager Pro is the superior device based on my criteria, but both devices performed quite well (especially in comparison to some of the cheaper products). I have had the voyager pro for about 4 months now, and it has continued to perform well. To tie this back to testing, it was interesting because I got to test a product in a non traditional manner and in a realistic setting as a customer. It also reinforced the importance of knowing the needs of the customer when testing, because had my criteria been different a different headset could have come out on top.

At yesterday’s CES 2010 preview in New York, I got some hands-on time with Sennheiser’s premium MM450 headset.  This pair of ultra-light foldable cans support music streaming, remote control over playback and call management, as long as your device supports A2DP and AVRCP (so iPhone users beware).  My initial impressions were positive, with solidly resolved basslines and clear highs.  The MM450 also offers active noise cancelling although there is a lesser model, the MM400, which skips this feature and drops the price.  Speaking of the damage to your wallet, you’re looking at $299 for the MM400 and $499 for the MM450.  That puts the MM450 in a price bracket beyond the noise-cancelling Nokia BH-905 and the MM400 beyond the Sony DR-BT50 (reviewed here recently), but Sennheiser thinks they’re worth it.
