Well, welcome (back) Gong Yoo. He is one of my favorite actor (Jang Geuk Suk, sorry, I’m just so happy to hear this news). He enlisted the Army while he was on the top spot of his career, well, thanks to Coffee Prince for making this possible. Some folks maybe know how big CP was when it’s airing back then in 2007.

Here are some brief reviews of his previous works

The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince

Synopsis

The life of Go Eun Chan (Yoon Eun Hye) is not easy; she works many jobs to pay off debts and even gave up her feminine image. Choi Han Kyul (Gong Yoo) is the heir of a big food company, but his grandmother wants him to settle down, so she arranged many dates for him. After Eun Chan bumped into Han Kyul and was mistaken for a boy, Han Kyul decided to hire Eun Chan to be his gay lover in order to avoid the arranged dates. Desperately in need of money, Eun Chan had no choice but to accept. Han Kyul’s grandmother also made Han Kyul in charge of a filthy coffee shop in danger of being bankrupt. Eun Chan begged to work at the coffee shop, and not long after, feelings start to spark, except, how would Han Kyul accept his “homosexuality”?

One Fine Day

Synopsis

After Seo Haneul (Sung Yu Ri) lost her mother in a fire, she was later adopted by a wealthy family and experienced a life of many twists and turns. Seo Gun’s (Gong Yoo) father had married an unwed mother, thus making Seo Haneul his sister in the eyes of the law. After their parents passed away, Seo Haneul was adopted by a wealthy chairman of a large organization who has also became a gangster. Upon using Haneul to extort money, Seo Gun and Haneul slowly fall in love with each other.

Hello My Teacher

Synopsis

Na Bori (Gong Hyo Jin) is a 25 year old woman who desperately wants to be a teacher at the high school she was kicked out of due misunderstanding with her teachers over injuring a group of male classmates. After getting her GED, she rejects job offers from other high schools and works on becoming a teacher at her old high school so she could work side by side with her high school love interest, the art teacher Ji Hyun Woo (Kim Da Hyun). However, the only thing that enables her to get the coveted job is by signing a contract to essentially babysit Park Tae In (Gong Yoo), a troublemaker who attends the same high school. Tae In, a lonely youth, quickly becomes the “jjang”, or “king” of the high school, and enjoys playing mean tricks on Bori whose easygoing personality attracts the majority of her students. Noh Jemma (Choi Yeo Jin) is jealous of the relationship between Bori and Tae In, and goes out of her way to get Bori kicked out but she’s not the only one against them…

I’m glad that he’s finally back!! I’m (again) a minority, I like Gong Yoo but to be honest I watched CP until ep. 12 and gave up the rest of it, it’s too draggy after he found out that Eun Chan was a girl. As for One Fine Day, truly, I watched it because of Gong Yoo and Yuri, but I didnt like the 2nd male lead, he’s just not into it, so flat…

Newish actress Lee Jia of Beethoven and Legend is taking on her third leading role in as many acting jobs with SBS’s upcoming drama series Style [스타일].

The drama is based on a novel of the same name, and has been called the Korean Devil Wears Prada. The bestselling book depicts the life of the main character (Lee’s role) who has worked at a fashion magazine for eight years, and deals with the power struggles, fierce competition, and romantic relationships that come with it.

Directing is PD Oh Jong-rok (Working Mom, Daisy, Hello My Teacher), while the writer is In Eun-ha of My Tutor Friend 2, Love & Marriage, and Goong.

Cast opposite Lee is Ryu Shi-won; the Wedding actor will play a plastic surgeon and restaurant owner.

Style will air on weekends after the new series Beautiful Legacy ends in late July.

back to GY.. what’s new? you have to wait for my next GY blog coz i got some saucy updates hehe

for this entry, i just want to recommend to all GY converts to watch all his movies and TV dramas. if you can, please buy original copies to fully support him!

GY Movies

i have seen 4 out of his 6 movies but in all these movies he didn’t have a role where he’s the solo lead.

in She’s On Duty he was 2nd in lead of Kim Seon-Ah (from My Name is Kim Sam Soon), you’ll see GY in action and KSA took care of most of the funny acts. [She's on Duty (Jambok-geunmu) is a 2005 South Korean film about a police detective who goes undercover in a high school to befriend the daughter of an elusive gangster. ]

She’s On Duty is GY’s 2nd movie with Kim Seon-Ah, the first was S Diary in 2004. i think GY’s exposure in S Diary is only about 20%. this movie is a little liberated and quite bold, so just prepare yourself and don’t be surprised when you see GY make his moves…

in another 2004 movie Spy Girl, GY fell in love with a girl who turned out to be a spy… his character is a little clumsy and goofy but naïve at the same time…

in My Tutor Friend, GY has a hilarious supporting performance – definitely not in lead role, but who would have known that he will eventually be a star? if GY’s exposure in S Diary was only 20%, in this movie it’s a little less than that. even so, it’s still an entertaining movie which was a top-grosser back in 2003.

his other 2 movies that i haven’t seen yet are Superstar Mr Gam (about a Korean baseball legend), i think this is where GY learned to hit a baseball like he did in Coffee Prince. then the Japanese film Like a Dragon, i haven’t seen much write up about this one though, but I think it is because of this movie that Japs fell for him.

GY tv Series

now the tv series, aside from Coffee Prince, there are a couple more that i highly recommend that you must see. One Fine Day (2006) and Hello My Teacher (2005) [a.k.a Biscuit Teacher and Star Candy]

One Fine Day is about 2 siblings (Sung Yu Ri and GY) who were re-united after 15 years. there are a lot of twists and secrets to be revealed in the story and as you watch it you’d silently hope that the 2 main characters will end up together… sounds taboo? well you have to watch it to know how it turned out in the end. the early part of this series was shot in Australia, you’ll hear GY speak English, i think he knows the language very well and this isn’t the first time, he also had English lines in Hello My Teacher. okay i know it was scripted but i just know, it’s obvious, through the accent. there are a lot of dramas in here and only a few laughs so it’s not GY’s usual funny and carefree character.

GY’s other TV series that i haven’t seen yet are 20 Years (2003) and School 4 (2001 – his tv debut).

in almost all his movies and his early tv dramas, his role was mostly as a high school student (and even though he was already at the age of 26 in Hello My Teacher), they said that the reason behind this was that he looked younger than his age.

i hope when he gets out of the military he’ll do 2nd Shop of Coffee Prince and his own lead role movie. J it’s still a long wait though but I’m already looking forward to it. for me, comedy romance with a little drama totally suits him fine than action films.

C’est un des drama que l’on peut trouver sous le nom de Hardtack Teacher and Star Candy ou encore Biscuit Teacher and Star Candy. On y retrouve dans les rôle principaux, Gong Hyo Jin qui à participé au film “Volcano High” (Whasango), Kim Da Hyun, un chanteur, et le magnifique Goong Yoo , vu dans “She’s on dutty” et dans le drama “Coffe Prince”

L’HISTOIRE :

Na Bo Ri (Gong Hyo Jin) ancienne agitatrice de son lycée (qui s’en ai d’ailleurs faite virée) revient quelques années plus tard son diplôme en poche afin de devenir professeur et de retrouver son ancien professeur d’art Hyun Woo (Kim Da Hyun). Celui ci intervient auprès de sa soeur, la directrice du lycée, afin qu’elle engage Na Bo Ri malgré son passé, celle si décide alors de la prendre à l’essaie afin qu’elle s’occupe de l’élève le plus difficile du lycée Park Tae In, son beau fils (Gong Yoo)
On décrit souvent ce drama comme le GTO coréen mais, il y à une différence, Na Bo Ri est loin d’être indestructible contrairement à ce que sa réputation de caïd laisse croire, c’est une femme romantique et pas sur d’elle bien que des qu’il s’agit de ses élèves elle est prête à tout.
Bon au menu “scènes de baston” (regardez pour comprendre l’utilité des guillemets), triangle et parallélépipède amoureux et drame familiaux (la rigidité des familles bourgeoises coréennes) un drama à voir en plus il y a Gong Yoo XD
