Puuuuuuuuuha klokken er tidligt, og jeg har allerede været oppe i en halv time . Jeg er jo et kæmpe A-menneske (think like NOT!) og jeg er altid frisk om morgenen (AGAIN NOT!), så det er intet problem . Ej det er lidt aparte for mig at være stået så tidligt op, men det fungere ret godt for jer, for så har jeg jo haft tid og overskud til at lave et indlæg jer imens i stadig lå og sov – Ja det håber jeg fandme i gør, for alt andet er umenneskeligt!

I love my bedz, og derfor kan jeg heller ikke overskue at rejse mig herfra, men hvis jeg skulle snige mig ud i bad, og derefter med en masse tøj på, så ville jeg gå helt amok i en kæmpe bunke Helmut Lang-tøj .. Helmut Lang har i lang tid været en lover off mine, men SU’en rækker altså ikke lige til at skulle rende i brand-fab tøj hver dag, så jeg bliver inspireret, as in MEGET inspireret ..

Katsui graduated from Central Saint Martins College after studying at Parsons The New School for Design. Yagi graduated from Doshisha University and Central Saint Martins College.
The brand, mintdesigns was launched in 2001. They have been in Tokyo Collection since ‘03 S/S. The awards they won include the Moet et Chandon New Designer’s Award in 2005. In 2007, mintdesigns garage store opened in Shibuya PARCO. They presented their collection in the 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT THIS PLAY! show. In 2008, they presented the opening show at São Paulo Fashion Week for ‘09 S/S. Both designers currently hold positions as guest professors at the Faculty of Art and Design at Osaka Seikei University. In 2009 they presented their collection at the Milano Salone TOKYO FIBER ‘09.Mint Designs turned out a dainty crop of dresses featuring details such as shimmery stripes, textured fabric and quirky graphics. One frock featured a darling print of tiny Charlie Chaplins, while another showcased circular cutouts along the sides.

Okay, it’s already been established that I’m just plain bad at updating with any consistency but this statement encapsulates how I feel about…everything right now. But this isn’t the place to push my ennui, so…

Moving on – I was quite drawn to the pops of red in these pieces:

Helmut Lang S/S 2010 features several pieces with this sinisterly beautiful print reminiscent of a large blood stains: not a freshly spilled crimson, but an oxidized rust.

I absolutely love the poppy and twig prints seen on these silk pieces from the Brian Reyes Resort 2010 collection. Can’t tell if they are illustrations or digitally rendered from a photograph, but they are gorgeous regardless!

Today I went for a really nice wine tasting in the austrian delicatessen shop Kipferl, on 70 Long Lane, just around the corner from Barbican.

What I liked about this wine tasting was that the atmosphere was very cosy, because the shop is small and it was just the right amount of people there.

On the wine tasting program were six wines from Austria. 2 white, 2 red and 2 sweet.
The first wine was from Matthias Hager, Mollands from the region Kamptal, which is a region in the north of Austria. It is a deep valley surrounding the Kamp river. The wine had a peppery fashion note, it was very tasty, although I am not a Veltliner fan.
From the reds I liked the St. Laurent, Klassik 2005 the most as it was very intense and associated with dark berries, prune and a hint of chocolate.
From the sweet wines, my absolute favourite was from Helmut Lang, Illmitz, a Chardonnay Beerenauslese 2006 from the region of Neusiedlersee, which is the 2nd largest steppe lake in central Europe between the borders of Austria and Hungary. The taste of this wine was amazing. It had hints of pineapple, lemon grass and dried fruit.
With every wine we got nibbles. For the reds and whites there was Salami, Speck, Mortadella, gherkins, garlic, very aromatic cheese and nice bread. For the sweet wines we got served Vanillekipferl- austrian cookies and dark chocolate.
It was a perfect evening and I got to know many people, not only Austrians, also English people who appreciate good wine.

I går holdt Eurowoman det længe ventede Røde Kors-arrangement i Designers Remix Collection-butikken i København. Hvis du har læst det seneste nummer af Eurowoman, har du måske allerede hørt om eventen. 100 læsere havde betalt 150 kr. hver for at komme med, og pengene gik ubeskåret til Røde Kors. Flere af Røde Kors’ Klub 10-medlemmer var til stede – sangerinden Pernille Rosendahl, Designers Remix-designeren Charlotte Eskildsen, stjernefrisøren Gunn-Britt Zeller, møbeldesigneren Søren Rose Kjær, og som du kan se her også den kønne tv-værtinde Andrea Elisabeth Rudolph, der hjalp med at hælde lyserøde bobler op, inden gæsterne ankom.

Butikken blev hurtigt stuvende fuld, og der blev shoppet en del, da man kunne købe hele den nye vinterkollektion med 25 % rabat denne aften. Der blev også købt mange af de fine tørklæder, som Charlotte Eskildsen har designet til fordel for Røde Kors. Tørklædet koster 300 kr., og ud af dem går 100 kr. ubeskåret til Røde Kors. Du kan selv få fingre i tørklædet her.

Lidt senere spillede Pernille Rosendahl og hendes mand Johan Wohlert aka The Storm tre numre fra deres nye og gamle album. Hun var superfin som altid (på trods af et bind om hånden som følge af et forstuvet håndled), og det er altid en helt særlig oplevelse at komme så tæt på musikken.

Efter koncerten begyndte autionen, hvor man kunne byde på en pose med skønhedsprodukter fra Rudolph Care, en klipning fra Gunn-Britt, en reol fra Søren Rose Kjær og en Signature-kjole fra Designers Remix. Master Fatman var auktionarius, og Andrea Elisabeth Rudolph agerede ‘nummerpige’ og viste varerne frem.

Auktionen gik virkelig godt, og indbragte over 10.000 kr., som naturligvis går ubeskåret til Røde Kors. En af de glade købere denne aften var… MIG! Søren Rose Kjærs reol blev min for rørende 2.900 kr. og står nu og ser så fin ud ved siden af min seng.

My newest designer find: a Helmut Lang sweater

Loehmann’s just received a new shipment from Barney’s New York so being the manic window-shopper that I am I just had to check it out!

I saw quite a few Co-op by Barneys clothing as well as Kate Moss for Topshop sequin flapper dresses:

They were only $30 after all of the discounts but they only had sizes 8 through 12 so I didn’t bother…. Even if they had my size I’m sure the dress would look like a sequined potato sack on me.

Shortley thereafter I saw this deconstructed Helmut Lang crop sweater on the rack and I decided to try it on for kicks.   Honestly I wasn’t exactly sure how to wear it!  It has one obvious sleeve….and that’s it.  It took me a few tries to finally figure out how to wear it.

In essence, this is a cowl neck, circle scarf, crop top, one-shouldered hybrid!

Yesterday I found myself throwing on the faux fur vest I thought I may never wear again. Pittsburgh weather, however, is incredibly unpredictable. It was the perfect thing to wear over long sleeves while I walked to work and even out to dinner.

The fur adds a luxe factor to even the most basic henley, jeans, and boots. Whether it’s real fur or faux, cropped or asymmetrical, a vest is an easy way out of choosing what to wear in the morning. As I said, it dresses up even the most basic turtleneck or tee. Depending on the style of the vest, whether it be sporty suede with a hood or sheared mink, it can pull just about any outfit together. It’s sort of like this year’s boyfriend blazer, you have it in several silhouettes and colors and you wear it over your favorite party dress, trousers to work, or with jeans out for drinks.

Depending on your love of real fur or not, this could be a costly item to buy in multiples, so just choose one. If you were buying one boyfriend blazer, you’d probably buy basic black, it goes with everything. So take into consideration your personality. Do you work 9-5? Are you out on the weekends or the evenings? Think about what’s already in your wardrobe and choose accordingly. This year, I’m still a big advocate of making purchases that coordinate or at least mingle with several other items I already own, it saves me time and LOTS of money. So do the same. A fur vest won’t go out of style but if you’re worried about being too trendy, then choose something basic that you know will look fab over all your jeans and that work appropriate sweater dress. While the boyfriend blazer will come and go, the fur vest has always been a part of fashion and has been played upon in different styles, colors, and textures for years and years.

Just like any other fashionista, I want clothes that are right off the runway and want to look great. This kind of lifestyle comes with a cost for those of us who don’t have the income to drop hundreds or thousands of dollars on haute couture clothes.

Now there’s an answer that will make every woman jump for joy: Rent the Runway.

This new site’s idea is simple: “Love. Wear. Return.”

Rent the Runway is an online website that makes high-end fashion affordable. Their concept is very simple.

1. Apply for a membership.

2. Once approved, browse the pages for a dress you lust over.

3. Give your dress size and dates when you want it (The dress can be rented for 4 or 8 days).

4. Pay 10 percent of the retail price.

5. Have it delivered to your address (It will arrive in 2-3 days).

6. Return it when finished.

It’s really that simple, according to the site. I just applied for membership a few days ago, so I haven’t experienced this first hand. But the concept seems really amazing.

RTR buys clothes at retail prices and offers it much less to the customer. For example, this Helmut Lang dress retails for $415, but you can rent it for $50.

Each dress comes another size of the same dress just in case it doesn’t fit properly. There is also a Fit Kit included containing double-sided tape, deodorant wipe outs and a Magic Clip bra converter. What’s not to love about this already?

Some of the designers RTR features are Diane Von Furstenberg, Herve Leger, Proenza Schouler, Christian Siriano and Christina Colta.

Rent the Runway began with Jennifer Hyman and Jennifer Carter Fleiss coming up with the idea after a friend was having a wardrobe crisis. The two had a meeting with Diane Von Furstenberg and the site was started. The site is always updating their clothes and wardrobes.

For the past few seasons, I feel like the Helmut Lang brand has been slightly overlooked. Perhaps this is the result of the designer, Helmut Lang’s departure from his own signature label in 2005? However, Michael and Nicole Colovos installed by Link Theory have continued to maintain the brand’s artistic edge and silhouettes, also adding denim into the mix for SS2010.

Helmut Lang er en af de mærker der imponerede mig meget til da de viste deres tøj, og jeg har ikke rigtigt kunne få dem ud af tankerne efter. Jeg har om og om igen fundet mig selv på deres hjemmeside og jeg, selvom jeg ikke har råd til det, har også flere gange siddet og fyldt min indkøbskurv op på Net-A-Porter, bare for at tømme den igen på grund af pengemangel. En af de ting jeg nok er mest vild med er nok de jakker de har designet, fordi jeg syntes de er ret specielle i forhold til andre jakker.

Jakkerne er helt specielle i sit snit, og er meget løse foran hvilket giver dem et lækkert og lidt “flydende” useende, som gør jakken lidt blød i looket, men det stærke stilrene snit i resten af jakken, gør at den stadig er lidt rå.

If you’ve checked out the interview with Melanie Ward by Cathy Hoyrn in the 0 issue of The Gentlewoman you would have read that the long time Helmut Lang collaborator not only styles clothes but she designs them as well. So it’s no surprise that she’s paired up with Graham Tabor for a 35 piece collection called Blouson Noir.

Ward’s involvement with Lang extended beyond the role of stylist, going as far as giving design direction for the women’s studio. Her placement as creative director for the brief incarnation of a New York based Lagerfeld line pushed that aesthetic forward. Now, dozens of young designers are finding inspiration in the body of work that Lang and Ward developed in their 13 year relationship.

My former roommate moved away for law school, but thanks to the wonders of the internets, we are able to keep in touch fairly similarly to how we used to when we lived together. Well, basically exactly as we used to. Ahh, the wonders of Gchat.

I told her it’s too expensive. Especially for PLEATHER! Since she’s in law school, I told her to wait til she graduates, and then she can afford 10 of these jackets, and then give one to me!

So I don’t know where your leather politics lie, but personally, I love real leather. The texture, the smell, the way it conforms to the body. But if you are against leather for your own reasons, that’s cool. But just wanted to give you fair warning, as I am in the market for a new leather jacket!

The trick to buying a leather jacket is to keep going down a size until you can’t get it on. Then buy the next size up! It should feel really snug, like a wetsuit. Leather stretches out (A LOT) and will take your body’s shape over time. The way you want it to look on you NOW is how it’ll look FOREVER if you just follow this tip!

Some more tips on buying a leather jacket:

1) Make sure it is actual leather. Cow and sheep leather are common, but lamb leather is lighter, and more comfortable to wear. Also, there are fewer scratches on the skin.
2) Check out the lining. A good lining means the maker took extra care with the jacket.
3) Look at the buttons/zippers. Do they work? Are they cheap looking? That will also clue you in to the quality of the leather.
4) How is the stitching? A low quality thread will disintegrate over time, and cause your jacket to rip.

As for leather care, here are some tips:

1) NEVER store leather in plastic or non-breathable covers. This will dry out the leather.
2) Think of leather as skin. Just like you need to moisturize your skin, you need to make sure your leather is moisturized. If you don’t maintain leather, it’ll become discolored, stiff, and cracked.
3) Always hang leather garments on wide or padded hangers to maintain their shape.
4) You can use a spray protector which would help your leather be more water-resistant in harsh weather conditions.

I know leather seems like a lot of work (because it is!), but it’s SO worth it. It’s a fabric that breathes and keep you very comfortable. It doesn’t wrinkle easily, can be worn for long periods, is very durable, wind-resistant, great for layering, makes you look totally badass… Must I go on?
