How many times a day do you hear stupid questions? No matter where you are; work, school, home, chu

How many times a day do you hear stupid questions? No matter where you are; work, school, home, church…someone, somewhere asks the most outlandish and irritating question(s) they can muster up. You know what I say to those stupid ass people who ask all of those stupid ass questions? EFF YOU!

Below are the stupidest questions I’ve heard today. Stay tuned, I’m sure this list will grow even more before I lay my head to pillow.

When calling someone at work:

1. What are you doing?

What the hell do people do while they’re at work? WORKING, you idiot!

___________________________________________________________

When calling someone on the telephone:

2. Are you asleep?

If you thought I was sleep, why the eff did you call?

___________________________________________________________

When you haven’t spoken to the person you’re supposed to be dating in a while.

3. Do you miss me?

Common sense should tell you if you’re missed, you’d be told. If you haven’t been told, you haven’t been missed.

___________________________________________________________

Panhandlers: When you’re coming out of a supermarket, laundromat or liquor store:

4. Do you have any spare change?

Why ask me after I’ve come out of the store? Of course I don’t have any spare change. I just spent it, stupid.

___________________________________________________________

When someone doesn’t know the proper way to ask to borrow money:

5. Don’t you want to loan me a few dollars?

Don’t you to want to jump off a bridge? Who the hell wants to loan out money??? Aren’t we in a recession?

___________________________________________________________

When someone wakes you out of your sleep:

6. Are you awake?

You know damn well I’m awake because you’ve been asking me that same question for the last 500 seconds.

___________________________________________________________

When someone just doesn’t want to be bothered:

7. Why aren’t you returning my phone calls?

Obviously I’m not calling you because I don’t want to talk to you. Is that a simple enough answer?

___________________________________________________________

When someone wants to use you for something:

8. Can you do me a favor?

I could. The real question is do I want to and/or am I going to?

___________________________________________________________

When someone sends you a txt message saying:

9. Can you call me?

Was it really more efficient for you to send a txt message to ask me to call you?

That’s borderline oxymoron-ish.

___________________________________________________________

When someone wears their stupidity on their sleeve:

10. What’s the number to 9-1-1?

Anyone who asks this question should be whacked over the head with a shovel.

___________________________________________________________

When someone knows the question they are going to ask is stupid:

11. Can I ask you a stupid question?

I don’t know who’s worse, the person who is about to ask the stupid question or the idiot who’s curious to know what the question is.

___________________________________________________________

When trying to pick someone up in a bar:

12. Are you an angel? Because I think heaven sent you to me.

You’ve got your wires crossed. I’m from the other neck of the woods and I’m carrying a portable pitchfork in my back pocket.

___________________________________________________________

When you’ve forgotten your overnight bag for that sudden booty call.

13. Can I use your toothbrush?

Why don’t you stick your teeth inside the toilet bowl? It’s about as sanitary as sharing a toothbrush.

___________________________________________________________

When you’re trying to take a dump in peace:

14. Are you in the bathroom?

Hellooo…you’re talking to me through the bathroom door.

___________________________________________________________

When you wear irritation all over your face:

15. I hope I’m not getting on your nerves…

Nine times out of ten you are if you had to throw in that little disclaimer.

___________________________________________________________

So there you have it guys and gals. The 15 most idiotic questions I’ve heard today. Don’t be like a nincompoop and go around asking the silliest thing you can dream up. If it helps, take a little effort to not be the jerk in the bunch. 90% of any effort is getting started. The rest is as easy as sharpening a ninja star!

___________________________________________________________

Quote of the Week: “There are no stupid questions; only stupid people.”

Afghanistan. Today’s paper tells me about a new plan to save Afghanistan. I like the President. I

Afghanistan. Today’s paper tells me about a new plan to save Afghanistan. I like the President. I also think the plan is nuts. Nothing is going to save Afghanistan. Nothing.

Adding troops will only result in more deaths. This is a fifteenth century country with a 10% literacy rate.

It is a tribal, incredibly corrupt country with one great crop – heroin.

We are going to change Afghanistan?

Please.

Dubai. This is DisneyWorld on steroids. It’s essentially broke after spending billions on sand castles. There is a population of roughly seven assisted by a foreign labor force of millions. We used to call this slavery. A few families control Dubai and a few others control its sister Emirate, Abu Dhabi.

The financial world treats Dubai as though it’s real. It isn’t. Think of Dubai as Madoff II.

Our economy. We no longer make things like cars, (OK we make a few) television sets, computers, cameras, clothes – the stuff of our lives. We make and process paper; some real, some not. We’re just kidding ourselves if we believe that we can spend ourselves into a vibrant jobs-creating country. Our infrastructure is nowhere with old bridges and broken down roads plus an energy grid that’s way past its sell-by-date.

I hate to say it but our system doesn’t work as it once did. Hell our government no longer works as it once did.

We need to restructure (and I sure as hell don’t know how) the Senate, House of Representatives, Executive and Judicial branches of government. One state has 38 millions citizens while another has one million. Both have two Senators. This is insane. (Sure it was right for two hundred years. It isn’t right now.)

We need to have another Constitutional Convention.

We really do.

And no, I’m not another right wing nut. I like to think I’m a realist.

I don’t want more guns or extra votes for me because I’m a nice guy. (A debatable subject anyway.)

Our schools are terrible. We no longer have the engineers, scientists, medical and technological personnel that allowed us to rule the roost for so long.

We may still think we’re the best the world has ever known but we’re kidding ourselves.

We can point fingers but that’s no help at all.

We need another Constitutional Convention; one that can grasp the enormity of the problem we face and lead us in new directions.

Help Wanted*

Americans to replace Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln, James Monroe and George Washington. Should know History and Quantum Physics; Accounting and Hydraulics; Energy Production and Aerodynamics.

Will pay moving expenses and reasonable compensation.

Send resume immediately.

* Full page ad placed in New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Seattle Times, Chicago Tribune, Miami Herald, Vanity Fair, New Yorker and Wired.

What went wrong?

I don’t know. We had it all and then we got into a series of wars that drained us morally, physically and economically. (See a pattern?)

It is frankly useless to go over this again and again.

We need a new Constitutional Convention.

We are not going to overthrow our government. This is not a matter of capitalism versus communism or socialism.

This is a simple matter of survival.

We need new tools to meet the new demands of our time.

Oddly enough The Declaration of Independence (worth a read by the way) says we should do this every now and then. Tom Jefferson, who wrote it, was talking about another George III kind of despot but what we’re facing is just another version.

What brought this on?

A kind of answer. Maybe.

So I pick up the local paper this morning and there is an article saying Boca Raton, Florida is poised to allow earlier Sunday alcohol sales. Currently booze is purchasable at 1PM Sundays and one could easily miss the first of the usual seventeen NFL kickoffs. They are thinking of moving it to 7AM and it’s about time. The Dolphins could be behind 54-0 by the time I wander groggily to the remote control. (Hey I really don’t drink since I’m on pain pills but I still like the idea. You know – it’s the principle that counts.)

Speaking as someone who lives a few hundred yards south of Boca Raton I am aware that until recently Boca has been modestly famous for an architect, Addison Mizner, who often forgot to provide stairs connecting first and second floors. It is also the horn honking capital of the Free World.

That’s what I saw this morning.

And, oh yes, Tiger is lost in the Woods.

Maybe it’s me. I certainly could use a new constitution. The old one leaves a lot to be desired.

“Today, December 2, 2009, I stand as one with Planned Parenthood to say that we are outraged at those who are abusing the historic debate over health care reform as another way to effectively ban abortion.
For one day we are making things perfectly clear: No more laws that restrict access for women. No more playing politics with women’s health. No more delays, and no more distractions.

By Geoff Evans, Social Media Strategist, www.facebook.com/socialmediacoach.ca

Are you a business owner who wants to find new clients through Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin?

Time and time again I see people creating ineffective profiles in Linkedin. Here are the top 5 Linkedin profile mistakes that everyone should avoid:

5.Leaving your “Professional Headline” defaulted to your current job. Being an owner or a Director or a Manager or a President doesn’t help anyone understand how you can help them… and therefore why they should take a closer look at your profile. Be creative and consider an action-oriented message. After all, your name, picture and professional headline are the 3 key components of your profile that first get noticed.

4.Not personalizing your public profile URL. I see a LOT of people who leave their public profile as the default created by Linkedin (such as: linkedin.com/pub/your-name/17/82a/964). You can personalize this URL so it can be easily added to your email signature or your business card. I’ve set mine to be www.linkedin.com/in/geoffevanslondon

3.Leaving your “Summary” and “Specialties” sections empty. This is your opportunity to truly communicate what you do and how you can help people. Help prospective clients understand the benefits of the products/services you offer. Identify for these potential clients exactly what skills you bring to the table that they absolutely can’t live without.

2.Not adding your company to the “Companies” listing in Linkedin. People have the opportunity to use the Companies directory like the yellow pages: typing in keywords and locating local or international businesses. You might just by discovered by a prospective client through this business directory. The only restriction is that you must have an email address linked to your website URL (i.e. you can’t use a Gmail or Hotmail account).

1.Using your company logo as your profile picture. I can only really speak for myself… but this is my personal pet peeve. I have no desire to do business with a logo. You may feel that you are marketing your brand… but in the world of social media it’s all about relationships. I can’t build a relationship with a logo.

“ Job Search Getting You Down?” by Susan Reynolds

The news repeats the bleak numbers over and over. But many people need to and are taking the statistics much more personally. Its not just a city, state, or national unemployment number. Its much more close to home. Its a family unemployment statistic And the logical response is to get darned depressed. These feelings are logical and expected. But you need to move emotions away from these personal feelings and move instead to solid, disciplined, rigorous job search strategies.

People are indeed getting hired. Yes, admittedly the reality is that there are far too few opportunities for far too many wonderful, qualified, talented professionals. But people are indeed getting hired. You HAVE to stay vigilant. Do not be part of the statistic of those who have simply given up.

Make sure you have carefully assessed your history for a realistic inventory of your strengths, talents, skills, and qualifications.

Do strenuous market research. The job market is probably not going to come to you in the form of an easy Internet posting. You’re going to have to go out TO the market. You’ll have to prove that your target organization will be best served by having your talents; that NOT having you will cost or lose more money and time, than could have been achieved with your abilities. Be prepared to explain your background competitively. Be ready to prove just how you know that youll be a great choice, even when an organization is possibly considering not hiring at all.

Get out there. Meet people. Talk to people. Learn about companies and industries. Keep implementing carefully planned actions. Strategic repetition will win the day.

Mark Twain: Plan for the Improvement of English Spelling

For example, in Year 1 that useless letter “c” would be dropped to be replaced either by “k” or “s”, and likewise “x” would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which “c” would be retained would be the “ch” formation, which will be dealt with later. Year 2 might reform “w” spelling, so that “which” and “one” would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish “y” replasing it with “i” and Iear 4 might fiks the “g/j” anomali wonse and for all.

I’ve been looking to out source the development of my applications for the iPhone. I just am no where as knowledgeable on the subject as I’d need to be if I want to get an app out anytime soon.

I’ve got ideas, no money, and very little time to devote to coding – rather, learning to code. I also have very little talent in designing a UI or any sort of fashion sense for that matter. So I need to find people who would be interested in helping me out and help build a small company. Nothing too serious, at least not yet.

I’ll need a developer and a graphic designer who will work for free until our app makes us money. Well that’s a dumb idea right? Who’s going to be willing to work for free? I certainly am not giving 45-60 hours a week to a company for free now, so who would want to tack on more side work for no immediate return?

I know, it’s a shot in the dark, but I have to at least try and see what happens. If no one is really interested, it won’t mean the end of it. I will just have to accept that I won’t be selling apps as soon as I would like to.

As for the ideas…

The Task Manager App
For team environments, having real time updates for on-going tasks saves time and energy. Having a slim, efficient tool to keep everyone informed while on the go could increase productivity.

Not too easy since this will require a server(s) for the push notification system to work. This is where I get stuck since I have no cost recovery method in place or even planned yet. I would like to keep this application a “one time fee” thing, and something reasonable like $2.99.

The Social Music App
A simple, one button interface that updates your status on the social sites of your choosing with what you’re listening to at the moment. The idea would be to keep this as simple and as quick as possible. Launch the app while the iPod/Music player is running, push one button, watch progress of the update, then exit app.

The accounts for each social site would be configured through a one time setup process which would run the first time you launch the app. This would be a pretty standard utility type app with a very sleek and snappy UI.

If you’re interested, hop on over to the contact page and drop a line of your choosing.

Is there a simple way to organize cards online and actually print an inventory? Beckett’s site is horribly tedious – entering any more than five cards at a time becomes an all day affair. Things only get worse when trying to print a checklist… because there’s no way to print a simple checklist.

Say I’m trying to print out an inventory of oh, say, 1962 Topps. If I do it the “normal” way, I get three lines for each card and need a ridiculous amount of paper. I feel as if there should be a simpler option, but perhaps I’m missing it?

I’ve looked at Zistle and I don’t see easy print options at their site, either.

What sites do you all use to organize your cards? Is there a way to easily print out a checklist from any card site? Are you as irritated by the Beckett site as I am?

Welcome to my blog! I’m Kris Piet, and I’ll be making an honest attempt to update this blog regularly so everyone is kept abreast of writing progress, personal thoughts, and some of my growth as a ‘noob’ to the world of writing as a profession.

A quick shout-out goes to my co-author and friend, S.L. Armstrong. Saundra helped me so much with the process of getting this blog up and running and designed so beautifully. I claim no credit. It’s all her. Thank you!

As a bit of personal but pertinent background, I’ve recently moved back to my hometown after graduating college. I had also attended and graduated a vocational school for massage therapy, and that is the field that I am looking to get into for a primary job. I’ve had a dream of working as a massage therapist for Cirque du Soleil for quite a while, so I really love to do massage work for athletes, acrobats, and circus performers. Luckily, the city that I live in has opportunities for athletics due to it being at high altitude. (In fact, we’ve had a number of professional or Olympic-level athletes do their altitude training here. Excitement!)

Though I won’t go into too much depth with the benefits of massage therapy as a profession, one of them is clear when it comes to wanting to write as well: massage therapists, in general, make good money in a smaller number of hours compared to a basic entry-level job. Granted, it depends on where you live, who you work for, and what sort of cut the company takes (or the basic cost-profit balance that is struck if you work independently), but we tend to get paid well for the physical exertion of the work we do.

It wasn’t until relatively recently that I realised how much I really want to write in addition to pursuing my dream of being an MT (massage therapist) for a company like Cirque. Outside of the essays I had to write in college, I got my start to writing through role-playing and fanfiction with Saundra (S.L. Armstrong). We found that our writing styles meshed nicely and that we were able to feed one another’s inspiration. Since the summer of 2008, we’ve had growing ideas for original works and written out some of them in part.

Now that I am out of school, I’ve been trying to find my way into the workforce as an MT. In this economy, it isn’t terribly easy, but I’ve recently landed a hands-on interview with a local spa that could grant me regular work for 20-25 hours a week. (I know this doesn’t seem like much, but even though it’s technically part-time because of the hours, it’s a pretty full week as a massage therapist goes. That’s four to five 1-hour massages, five days a week. Plus, if I’m doing Lomi Lomi or Thai massage, that’s a fair amount of physical exertion. Built in exercise program. Woot!)

With this opportunity come a few worries along with some hopes. Being a new writer, I’m trying to find a schedule that will balance writing with the rest of my life. The addition of a steady job has its plus and minus columns. On the plus side, I’m hoping that having a set schedule for my work hours will help me manage my writing time well, making me more productive with the hours that I have available to spend on writing. There’s also the obvious benefit of having more money to spend on the various steps involved with getting self-published and promoting the work I’ve been doing with Saundra (as I think it is wonderful, has a market, and could really be lucrative).

On the minus side are my worries. The most prominent of these is that having a job as an MT will leave me so tired at the end of my work hours that I’ll have little motivation to write. While I don’t really think this will happen, it’s a worry that floats around my brain, since I’ve never had a physically strenuous job since I got into writing. I also worry about expectations. Since I’m not writing alone, but with a co-author, I worry that I won’t be able to devote as much time to the craft as she wishes me to. The last thing I want to do is get my co-author annoyed as hell with me because she’s putting in more than I’m able to. I know that it will inherently be uneven, due to us simply having different lives and amounts of time to devote to the work, and that worries me. While she has been wonderfully supportive of me and very understanding of my need for a primary job, I do struggle with that nagging worry that my best won’t be good enough.

In part of my brain, it brings up the question “Is the difference between seeing writing as a career or a hobby really only the difference in the hours you are able to devote to it?” In my head, I view my writing as very important, and I want nothing more than to publish what I write and supplement my income with it. I want to see it out there, being read by people and bringing in a fair amount of money. I don’t expect to be famous, but to have a moderate, devoted following would be a dream come true. But, for all that passion, do those desires alone make it a career? How much action must be taken for the work to qualify as a career rather than a hobby? I don’t want my lack of time to be misinterpreted as a lack of drive.

How do other writers balance their primary income jobs with their writing? How do they stay productive and not burn out? How do you know when you’re devoting too little time to your writing, or when you are devoting so much time to it that the rest of your life is suffering (as opposed to making reasonable sacrifices to get things done)? These sorts of questions have been running through my head as I pursue a primary job. The panel about these subjects at Necronomicon didn’t quite manage to answer them (though, in all fairness, the panel was interrupted by a fire alarm, and we all spent half the time outside in the muggy humidity of Florida).

I know I don’t have many friends out here in the blogosphere and Internet who write, but I’ll put out a general call for any supplemental material you would recommend on this sort of subject. Being so new, I don’t always know where to turn for help, and that embarrassment can sometimes get me down. There’s always the possibility that getting the job will solidify my schedule and writing will work in naturally with it in a way that both me and my co-author find fulfilling (this is truly my hope with the situation), but any help I can get in the way of techniques for balancing writing with a primary job would be truly appreciated.

What I suppose it comes down to is that I’m very excited about the opportunity to get a nice, steady job as a massage therapist, even with my worries. I think it will give me a boost and a sense of stability that I haven’t had since I recently graduated college. It will also give me the money I know I want to invest into my writing (Task #1 = buy a laptop ^_^). My hope is that it gives me a sturdy foundation to build my writing schedule upon and will be a good motivator to make the most of my time online with my co-author.

It’s a journey, and I’m looking forward to the steps along the way. I’m sure I’m going to learn a lot, and that’s also important.

As you know, the Senate is voting on Health Care this coming Saturday. It is very urgent that we stand up to the Obama/Pelosi agenda to take over health care in this country, but we can’t do this without your help. The vote will be televised live in prime time and as we saw during our vote in the House, the sight of a member of congress holding a small child to argue against health care is a very powerful image. Unfortunately, we have a shortage of small children. What we are looking for is cute children, preferably between ages 2-4 who are potty trained and not criers. Please, no ugly children–they just won’t be as effective on camera. We will return your baby safe and sound after the vote. If you have a baby please either phone 202 863-8500 or email Leadership@rnc.org. Please put Cute Baby Available in the Subject line.

Phase one of the initial launch in Dallas, Texas has been successfully completed: 12 active sales ma

Phase one of the initial launch in Dallas, Texas has been successfully completed: 12 active sales managers have been employed for the Dallas/ Fort Worth metroplex area. As part two of phase one, 30 or more sales representatives have been hired and will be attending their first training class on Monday, November 16th. By early 2010, MBE-Dallas will have close to 100 new employees building and growing the Merchants Barter system in this area.

“By the end of first quarter 2010, we’ll have more sales people on the road than most barter companies have active members in this area,” chuckles Anthony Donnelly. “This is just a perfect time for bartering.”

During the first week of training, membership in the new region has spiked tremendously, not only due to the continued flagging economy, but also because of the high caliber of the sales recruits that attended the training class. Early projections estimate that membership in the region will rise to approximately 300 by year’s end, and be well over 750 before March 31st, 2010.

“We are extremely happy with the first week,” states Brad Versteegh, one of the partners in MBE-Dallas, adding, “…in this economy, barter really is a ‘no-brainer’.” Along with partner, Terry Jones, they join the ranks of other successful MBE-licensees that are discovering the incredible potential of ownership in the fastest-growing business barter system in the US.

Jones comments, “I’ve never experienced such a streamlined and effective business model like this, and I’m very pleased to be a part of this economy-saving business.”

Because of the refinements and improvements over many other barter organizations that are not experiencing the same growth as Merchants Barter, they continue to expand at record levels, with more offices scheduled to launch early in 2010. Strong sales people interested in applying for one of the openings with MBE-Dallas should contact Mr Jones directly at 512-426-2351.

So this morning (More like; a week or two ago. This post has been sitting in my drafts forever.) I

So this morning (More like; a week or two ago. This post has been sitting in my drafts forever.) I finally got a couple viewers. In seeing this, I decided to give those who are reading my blog a little insight to the book. Something I have been avoiding since the beginning of my blog. But it is high time to fulfill my promise. Then I just might get a couple more viewers, and maybe a link or two. Wherein I will actually be fine with this, in seeing the fact that I will actually have a post describing my main purpose.

So all in all, I am hoping to eventually be named “The next J.K. Rowling.”

A couple things I like in books, is the mere fact that it is entirely possible that this is going on right now. Harry Potter for instance, I believe was such a hit because it is so well planned, that the entire story could be real.

This sounds weird, I know. But the wizards in harry potter cover their existence so nobody knows they exist, and they do a pretty good job of it. Meaning, if there really were wizards, and they really were trying to hide their existence, we would have no clue whatsoever.

Also meaning; the book could be completely true, and we would never know.

On that confusing note, (I’ve never done a good job at explaining exactly how I think. My mind is kinda like; “OH! An idea! Yeah! Harry Potter… True… Possible! Mind-erasing! Charms… Works!” And then I have this long list of my thoughts that are entirely illegible and undecipherable.[And on a more confusing note! {Maybe I should split this post in two...}]) this is one trait I am planning to have in my book. Although, this attribute might be lost in series three…

And onto the books themselves! I am planning on writing a couple of series; four to be exact. (Not including the few singles I might publish before and after…) All of them relating to each-other.

Series one; Life of color. Set in 2042 on Dwur U ir Z.

Series two; (Name still being thought over) Territorial War. Set in 968 on Dwur U ir Z.

Series three; Pyromaniacs. Set in 2012 on Earth. ending on year 11 on Dwur U ir Z.

Series Four; Aftermath. Set in 2186 on Dwur U ir Z. Ending on year 2112 on Earth.

Now I’ll bet all of you are wondering; “What in the world is Dwur U ir Z?” With the smarter people saying; “How can two-thousand years pass on Dwur U ir Z but ending up only a hundred or so years later?” With the Einsteins out there; “Wow, they went pretty far.”

Dwur U ir Z is a planet, confined within a dot infinitely small, trapped in time.

I think i’ve spoiled enough. But I’ll give you a little insight to the first book; Zedek Eleveta is a teenage boy living in Scur, Zuir. With his blood red hair, he finds a power beyond his comprehensibility. Forging a lance to keep himself defended, he finds two tragic deaths before him. How will he fight, when an army is running at you full force? The answer?; Nothing.

That’ll keep you thinking until I can think of something better to say on the matter. But for right now, I just want to get this published.

The show and site are just starting up but I already have a blueprint put in place.

What I am looking for are any writers or online radio hosts (podcasters) who share a love for the hometown Buffalo teams! The goal of the site is to publish short, sweet and to the point opinions while also having quality online radio shows daily.

This is a great chance for fans to get their voices heard and can also be a building block to bigger and better things. The site is going to grow, and more and more people are going to see/hear your work. Anyone who has a passion about their team can send in either a writing sample or a podcast to show how good they are. You can send it over to buffalosportstalk@yahoo.com along with any questions you have. Questions in the comments will also be addressed.

Now as of right now, there is no paying opportunity on the site (including my own). I am looking for passionate fans who are reliable to get their work out. I am not looking for someone to work all week or anything like that. Everyone has a busy life, and let’s be honest, if you are not getting any money in return, you usually aren’t going to work your tail off. What I am looking for is for writers to write one article per week, and/or host an online program that they prepare themselves once every two weeks. You do not need experience in writing or hosting a show, just a love for the team.

Thanks in advance for everyone out there who is interested, and I look forward to giving the chance for passionate Bills fans to get their voices heard in a way that they might not be able to elsewhere.
