Ok Soooo after hours of uploading…patience is a virtue right. I have listed these 8 items on Etsy. Now this is a rough start, there are no measurements, and I haven’t taken the time to calculate the exact postage rate for every little thing. Barbosa foi o primeiro. Romântico-saudosista-não-presencial que sou, tenho certeza que igual a Barbosa nunca mais vai haver com a camisa 1 do Vasco nem da Seleção. Os mais antigos dizem que houve um quê de rascismo na penitência eterna pelo segundo gol que levou do Uruguai na final de 50. Eu não duvido.

Depois dele, vi Acácio fazer história (bi Carioca, campeão Brasileiro) e até gol de pênalti – na época que goleiro ainda pegava bola atrasada com a mão e deixava os jogadores de linha bater córner. Foi outro goleiro negro ídolo do Vasco. Caetano era reserva de Carlos Germano e – injustamente – até de Marcio. Esse não deu sorte.

Acima, o "sucessor" Acácio e Barbosa

No fim de 1999, Carlos Germano entra em “litígio” com o Vasco – leia-se Eurico, não renova o contrato e vai para o Santos. No lugar dele, um goleiro negro, alto e elástico. Poucos jogadores se saíram tão bem diante de um desafio daqueles, como Helton, aos 21 anos, recém promovido à categoria profissional, teve no Mundial de 2000.

Ele nem deu tempo da torcida ficar desconfiada, ressabiada. Impressionava pela elasticidade, pela saída arrojada de gol (na época, era comum a crítica de que goleiros brasileiros não saíam bem do gol) e pela reposição de bola. Falava para quem quisesse discutir que ele era melhor que Julio Cesar – goleiro do rival na época. Até porque ele lembrava… Barbosa. E ninguém pode ser melhor do que Barbosa.

Claro que o tempo mostrou que ele não era Barbosa. E também não era melhor do que Julio Cesar. Mas é um grande goleiro, que ficou marcado injustamente pela cobrança de falta mais perfeita já vista no Maracanã daquela distância. O gol de Pet, aliás, só foi lindo como foi por que só ele voaria daquele jeito para tentar alcançar a bola.

Hoje Helton foi convocado novamente para a Seleção Brasileira. Goleiro titular do fracassado time de Luxemburgo nas Olimpíadas de 2000, o goleiro do Porto terá nova chance no “grupo” de Dunga para os dois últimos jogos da Seleção Brasileira pelas Eliminatórias da Copa do Mundo de 2010.

Sempre que vejo Helton dá um certo orgulho e uma boa lembrança da bela comparação com Barbosa. São dois orgulhos para os vascaínos. Espero que ele tenha a chance de ir para a Copa. Seria um prêmio a um raro talento.

Porto keeper Helton

Brazil have called up Porto’s Helton for their final WC qualifiers against Bolivia on October 11^th in La Paz, and Venezuela 3 days later in Campo Grande.

Helton is in as cover for Grêmio’s Victor who has picked up a muscle injury. However, Victor remains with the squad. Helton’s last spell with Brazil was in the Copa America campaign in Venezuela in 2007.

Brazil are also without Roma centreback, Juan, who has already dropped out through injury.

Through the 2008 season, Tennessee was tied with its neighbor to the north, Kentucky, at 264 players sent to the major leagues. (Virginia also had 264.)

I’m not sure Tennessee’s roster looks as deep as Kentucky’s, however, but there are some interesting players here. If David Price lives up to his ace potential, he could help change that.

Several are candidates for Tennessee’s best, from Parisian Bob Caruthers, a pitching star of the 19th Century, to Turkey Stearnes, the Negro leagues star and the only Hall of Famer from the state to date.

Then there’s Todd Helton. You may remember that he played quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers before he was replaced by some guy named Peyton Manning. Helton decided that his future was in baseball, and he was right. He has put up tremendous numbers for the Rockies for more than a decade and is one of the few active players with 10-plus years all on one team. His Hall of Fame shot is probably hurt by the Colorado altitude, but he is still making his case and figures to do so for some time. As for this project, he gets to be a Tennessee Volunteer again.

The manager of this team could be Phil Garner, who did guide the Astros to a pennant a few years back. But he’s going to play second base, so the manager will be Billy Meyer, who had a short playing career and eventually ended up in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ dugout in the late 1940s and early ’50s. The Sporting News picked him as manager of the year for leading the Bucs to fourth place in 1948, but by 1952, in a horrible season that Joe Garagiola used as a punch line for many of his stories, the Pirates went 42-112 and Meyer was out. Despite this, the Pirates retired Meyer’s No. 1 and he will get to manage the Vols in this project.

On July 9th, 2009 I received a phone call about my Papaw. He was at the VA hospital in Cincinnati. Michael and I were already scheduled to fly to Columbus at 5am the following morning. My Mamaw had told me that Papaw was fine and to continue with our plans to surprise my Father on Saturday in Cleveland.

I had made plans to visit an old friend and show Michael around Kent Friday evening . He was excited about seeing Lake Erie and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, over the weekend, while I couldn’t wait to show him the West Side Market. 

After we arrived in Columbus, had lunch at the Ohio Deli,and met with my cousin for some coffee, we headed up the road for North East Ohio. Prior to reaching Akron I received a phone call from my Father and Gina telling me we needed to turn around and head to Cincinnati.

I don’t know if it is truly possible to prepare yourself for the shock of seeing a loved one in the state my Papaw was in. My Papaw Helton is one of the most wonderful people I have ever been blessed to know, let alone be related to. I can not express enough the love and admiration I have for him.  

My Mamaw had tried to warn me, but as I said before there is nothing in this world that could have possibly prepared me. Mamaw and my Mother had told me to straighten up, not to be hysterical in front of my family they are grieving too. After spending the night in the hospital on chairs, I was finally able to see him for the first time Saturday morning. Dad took me back. I could feel he was in the room, but not in his body, I was searching and praying for him to be there, but when I leaned across to hug him nothing was there. We as humans were keeping him alive. I know my Mamaw, as long as she can help it he isn’t going anywhere. I don’t know what Papaw wants or what he can feel, his kidneys were shot, his liver had shut down, there were heart problems, they cracked his ribs when he flat lined, and this wasn’t all. The doctor was kind, but honest about his chances of survival they were small. At this point I literally had to charge out of his room, past the waiting room and find a private bathroom to crouch on the floor and sob. In my life I have not experienced this level of scare or pain for another human.

After resting and cleaning myself up, I made sure to look nice, my Aunt Cynthia took me back to see him again, though he was suppose to be asleep.  He woke up this time and saw me, he reached for my hand from under his blanket. The happiness I felt was surreal. I love him so much. I told him I had made him a list of my favorite things we have done together, he nodded.

I have so many delightful memories of childhood spent with my Mamaw and Papaw. I remember their home in Waverly, the first time I pricked my finger on one of Mamaw’s Cacti, this funny pizza game my cousins and I would play, the fold out couch, and the upstairs bathroom. My favorite night time book had a story for every day of the year, my Father would read to me when we stayed over. Early in the morning Papaw and I went to a yard sale or two, I have no idea what we were looking for. At their apartment in Chillicothe there was a coffee table that I could crawl inside and curl up. They had multiple refrigerators. I loved Papaw’s deer jerky. I always loved being a jay bird, I remember running around the apartment naked, and can still hear them laughing at me.  When I was small enough I would curl up on Papaw’s beach belly in his recliner and take a nap with him. I loved holding his hand. I still love holding his hand. As I got older he took me to thrift stores. Mamaw bought me a purple cowgirl hat, while Papaw and Daddy went on the Casino Cruise ship. They moved to Pleasant Hill. For a while they had a goat named Abner and Mamaw had Geese taller than me. Papaw and I went fishing. I wish we went fishing more. A few summers ago we went to Bark Ridge and took Preston. He taught me to stand in the shade so the fish didn’t see my shadow. When I wouldn’t eat meat he made me Ramen Noodles. I tried to learn Cribbage, I’m still learning. I walked down the lane and remembered it was the first time I had left their land in days. We drove the country side of southern Ohio after fishing, it was beautiful. I would go back to that day.

Before we had to leave Ohio I was able to see Papaw one last time alone. I told him about moving to NY and he actually was able to mouth to me he knew. Because he had that ventilator down his throat I told him to rest and not talk, he shook his head at me, no. I talked about fishing and how we were upset Papaw T sold Bark Ridge with out telling us. Our favorite fishing spot was gone. I told him I love him and he was able to mouth, I love you back to me. In a way I feel selfish for wanting to be there, but he means so much to me and I wish I could stay by his side. We told each other I love you again and he mouthed for Mamaw. Their Love amazes me, she isn’t ready for him to leave and he knows it. He is fighting so hard and I truly believe it is because of the love his soul feels from all the people who love him so dearly.

He is my inspiration and hero. I hate when I have to leave. I don’t use the word hate often or lightly. I hate when I have to leave, because I know I will not be back soon enough. Rarely am I able to spend the amount of time I want with Mamaw and Papaw or my Father.

I am currently attempting to make peace with God’s intentions for my Papaw, for now he is a Living Miracle, that grows stronger and healthier day by day.

Ya hay que ser melón para no poner a un futbolista como Forlán cuando se quiere ganar un partido...

Mientras el Barça y el Villarreal celebran felices sus éxitos en la Champions y su buen fútbol, el Tribunal Supremo de Cagadas Futbolísticas de Madrid (en adelante TSCFM) discute quién es más culpable: si el Madrid o el Aleti, si Juande o Abel,  si Mijatovic o García Pitarch, si Boluda o Cerezo.

También discuten sobre quiénes son más ingenuos, si los hinchas merengues o los adictos a la Frustradina al  Ácido Súfrico y al Resignadol, drogas atléticas. El fútbol es una fábrica constante de fuegos de artificio. Traerán a un nuevo crack, cambiarán al entrenador y el forofo triturado por la  crisis, la hipoteca, el paro, el colesterol, los suspensos de la nena  y el vecino de arriba -batería de Gangrena Total- volverá a creer en su equipo. Craso error. Los del Liverpool cantan orgullosos que nunca caminarán solos. Los de Madrid podemos cantar lo mismo. Nunca caminaremos solos, porque nos guían demasiados visionarios.

Antes de emitir su fallo, el  TSCFM  analizará las pruebas. En contra del Madrid hay torpeza manifiesta en los fichajes y prodigalidad galáctica con ostentación y alevosía. En contra del Atleti las últimas pruebas obran supuestamente en el contestador automático del club, que a partir de las 20´45 del pasado miércoles registró estas llamadas: 1ª. Agradeçimento do presidente do Oporto por la no alineaçao de Forlán. 2ª. Llamada de una tía de Raúl García: ¡Abel, por tu padre, sienta a Raulín si hace falta, pero saca a Forlán!. 3ª Llamada de la madre del portero del Oporto: Eu reconozco a caballerosidade de Abel por ñao quere amargar a vida a mi criança. Obrigado. 4ª Llamada de la peña Atléticos Pasmaos: Abel, macho, ¿te acuerdas de que hay que ganar para clasificarse, y de que Forlán es el máximo goleador del equipo?. 5ª Llamada de Gilipollas sin Fronteras  proponiendo la suplencia de Forlán como Gilipollez del Año. 6º Llamada de Juande Ramos: Gracias, colega, por dejar que no me coma solo el marrón. Y así sucesivamente.

El fallo de la corte suprema se presenta difícil, pero probablemente se decante por el Atlético de Madrid. Lo del  Madrid en Anfield fue un una catástrofe, pero enfrente había un equipo que hizo un partido glorioso. El episodio tuvo tanto de tragedia para los que iban a “chorrear” en Liverpool como de gesta para un los que apostaron por el poderío del fútbol inglés, tan poco sofisticado, pero tan elocuente cuando explota. Ver llorar a Casillas es duro, y más por la asombrosa inoperancia de sus compañeros. Pero cuando has tenido enfrente a Gerrard, a Torres, a Mascherano y  Xabi Alonso en estado de gracia  hay al menos alguna excusa.

El partido de Oporto en cambio fue un horror donde ganó un equipo asequible. El Atleti sólo hubiera tenido que jugar la mitad que frente al Madrid para pasar a cuartos, porque evidentemente Helton no es san Iker. Pero este club “agilado” y “acerezado” cuando acaricia el éxito siempre saca un conejo envenenado de la chistera para pifiarlo. Abel, que parecía sensato, sufrió un ataque de megalomanía y quiso reinventar el fútbol. Sentando al portentoso Forlán, que fue el mejor el sábado, regaló medio partido al Oporto.

¿Qué virus le atacó? A Fernando Daucik,   ”mister” del Atlético de Bilbao en 1956, le dio una ventolera parecida y puso al portero Carmelo de delantero centro. Fue destituido. Mi amigo Amado, camarero en el bar de  la Universidad Carlos III que, como es lógico, destila mucho saber y es colchonero, no replanteaba ayer el enigmático por qué somos del Atleti, cosa que no entiende ni Dios. Sino por qué nuestro equipo, como quizás también el Madrid, se ha suicidado en la Champions apuñalando al más elemental sentido común.  

As oitavas de final da Champions League começaram nesta terça-feira. E, pra variar, foram jogos emocionantes, cheios de grandes lances – tanto na frente quanto atrás. Foram apenas 7 gols em 4 jogos, mas isso não quer dizer muito, afinal os goleiros brilharam. Confira!

INTER 0×0 MANCHESTER
O jogo foi em Milão, mas os Diabos Vermelhos transformaram a área da Inter em um inferno. E aí, adivinhem, quem brilhou foi Julio Cesar. Com grandes defesas, o goleiro da Seleção evitou que as redes balançassem no Guiseppe Meazza durante toda a partida.

Na segunda etapa a Inter até melhorou, mas o empate sem gols acabou de bom tamanho para os donos da casa. Agora, quem vencer se classifica; empate sem gols é penalidades; e empate com gols classifica o time de Jose Mourinho.

LYON 1×1 BARCELONA
Quando Juninho abriu o placar antes dos 10 minutos de jogo, a la Ronaldinho Gaucho contra a Inglaterra em 2002, parecia que finalmente o Lyon iria passar das oitavas de final. Mas aí a sina francesa foi mais forte e o caldo entornou.

O time pressionou, tentou, mas parou na defesa do Barça que - como se não bastasse – empatou aos 22′, com Thierry Henry.

ARSENAL 1×0 ROMA
Foi merecido. Jogando em casa, os Gunners pressionaram absurdamente os gialorossi, mas Doni estava inspirado. Pegou até pensamento! No entanto, pouco antes do final da primeira etapa, Mexes derrubou Van Persie na área e o próprio holandês converteu a cobrança de pênalti.

A segunda etapa foi mais parada, travada, presa, mas a vantagem é mesmo do Arsenal.

ATLETICO DE MADRI 2×2 PORTO
Belíssimo resultado dos portugueses na Espanha. Muito vai se falar do frangaço do goleiro brasileiro Hélton, quando a partida ainda estava em 1 a 1 (gols de Máxi Rodriguez para o Atletico e empate de Lizandro López), mas a verdade é que o Porto foi valente e conseguiu um grande resultado fora.

O único vencedor do dia foi o Arsenal que, jogando em casa, bateu a Roma por 1×0, gol de Van Persie que sofreu e converteu pênalti aos 37 minutos do primeiro tempo. No jogo de volta em Roma, o Arsenal pode empatar ou até perder, caso marque um gol, por um gol de diferença que conquista a vaga para as quartas. A prorrogação só acontece se a Roma ganhar por 1×0. Para se classificar, os italianos terão que vencer por dois gols de diferença.
