What is back acne? Back acne is same condition as facial acne. The sebaceous glands on skin get stim

What is back acne?

Back acne is same condition as facial acne. The sebaceous glands on skin get stimulated by androgen and produce excess sebum. Sebum is an oily substance produced by oil glands of skin. Over produced sebum clog’s pores on skin and prevent the release of dead skin cells. Thus dead cells, sticky sebum attract bacteria which thrive in these pores to form acne. Back acne have to be treated very carefully as back skin is very thick and oil glands produce more sebum.
Back acnes leave ugly scars when healed. The texts of Ayurveda mention many wonder herbs which help in back acne and scars. Check below for these wonderful herbs.

What exaggerates Back acne?

Any thing which irritates skin exaggerates back acne. Few are mentioned here.

Back packs which rub the skin surface.
Rough back massages with unsuitable oils.
Tight fitting cloths.
Synthetic clothes which do not absorb sweat.
Rough back seats
Rubbing back vigorously with hard brush or loofahs

Home remedy for Back acne:

Wash your back with mild soap than harsh ones.
Do not use loofahs or long rough back brushes, as they irritate skin and increase break outs..
Mild skin cleansers are best to clean back skin.
Prefer baths than showers as soaking in warm water for 20 minutes help to release dead skin cells.
Avoid tight fitting clothes
Do not wear synthetic clothes as they do not absorb water and allow the moistness to accumulate on skin. This is a favorable condition for bacteria which thrive in skin pores.
Stay away from rough scratchy clothes as they irritate skin.
Wear lose fitting soft cotton clothes.
Do not get your back massaged with rough scrubs or irritant oils.
Put a hair band to avoid falling of hair on back. The sweat and dirt accumulated on hair may fall on back skin through hair strands

Vata and Kapha are two main doshas, which are involved in eruption of acne and pimples The oil produced by oil glands is called as meda (body fat). Kapha (one of the tridoshas) is dominant in medha. The presence of Kapha in medha makes it sticky. Vata is dominant in skin. When vata gets aggravated due to unhealthy diet and life styles, it activates the oil glands of skin to secrete more sticky oil or sebum. Thus the sticky oil or sebum oozes out to clog skin pores.

Ayurveda Diet and lifestyle as home remedy for back acne:

Avoid foods which are spicy, dry and oily. These may cause indigestion and lead to vitiation of vata.
Keep a habit of emptying bowels regularly this always normalizes vata.
Avoid fast foods and soft drinks.
Avoid exposure of skin to severe climatic conditions.
Drink plenty of water.
Consuming fresh vegetable salads and fresh fruits keeps the skin healthy and resistant to blemishes.
Do not consume foods, which lead to indigestion
Drink plenty of water (15 glasses a day)
Avoid excess usage of curds, fish , sour and salty foods, Bengal gram (urad), radish, sesame, horse gram and jaggery.
Practice a regular exercise regimen
Do not exert physically after heavy meals
Avoid exposure to extreme climates.
Control your emotions through YOGA and MEDITATION

Are you looking for a particular acne treatment that will help you get rid of acne? Well, it is sad

Are you looking for a particular acne treatment that will help you get rid of acne? Well, it is sad to tell that there is still no particular type of treatment that greatly works for every single patient and for every type. With this fact, many of the victims find it more effective to employ a combination of acne treatments since this chronic skin condition, to some degree, tends to involve a blend of causes.

These treatments generally promise to help you obtain a clear and clean skin, leaving the skin healthy and free from any form of acne. The treatments actually vary depending in its forms and the manner of application. Below are the acne alternative treatments that are common for everyone.

Herbal Remedy

Herbal remedy is noted to be a potent form of treatment in case you don’t want to take powerful acne drugs that can produce side effects. Nevertheless, a herbal remedy has its own flaws and it usually takes at least a month or so for this form of acne treatment to have any effect. Therefore, don’t expect instant results from it. In addition, there have also been very few scientific studies undertaken to present how effective this form of acne alternative treatment is.

Home Remedies

Home remedies could be an outstanding form of alternative treatments to the pricey medicated treatments. But just like the herbal remedy, very few scientific research has also been conducted for this approach to acne alternative treatments. The results achieved from the use of this form of alternative treatments are not typically as quick as fast as those achieved from medicated treatments, but at least they do have fewer side effects.

Natural Treatments

Natural treatments are but another considerable form of acne alternative treatments in case that you don’t like the idea of developing side effects from the powerful acne medications. But, just like the above mentioned acne alternative treatments, there has also been fewer scientific studies conducted to show whether any of the treatments of this form actually function for combating acne.

It is also worth noting that most of the researches conducted for this form of treatments focus highly on the synthetic treatments rather than those that you can prepare yourself with affordable natural ingredients since most of the researches are funded by drug companies. Some of the treatments done in this form may take several weeks before they show any effect.

Alternative therapies used to fight flus and influenza are considered good against the H1N1 virus.

Alternative medicine practitioners reported that with herbal remedies and good nutrition people without the vaccine can avoid the swine flu. Some herbal remedies mentioned are: astragalus, geisemium and cecchetto.

A healthy immune system can be a defense against many illnessses including colds and flus. It would therefore make sense that if these herbal remedies work by building the immune system, they would protect against the swine flu.

F0r those whose immune system is already suppressed this may be a challenged.

THR Logo

For some time now I’ve been suspecting that the UK is falling into some weird reality-hole or alternate dimension. Watch some Pat Condell and hear how far the bureaucracy is willing to bend to placate religious zealots. We all saw how Blair was willing to make the once proud nation subjugate to a madman named Bush. And they have publicly funded homoeopathic hospitals (i.e. hospitals that dispense nothing but kind words, sympathy, sips of water, and sugar pills).

Now, thanks to Athiest Media Blog, we all get to see that the UK government is issuing a certification to herbal remedies, based not on evidence of their effectiveness or any such tomfoolery, but EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE!

From the website of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA):

The THR certification mark is a type of trade mark. It indicates that the herbal medicine has been registered with the MHRA under the Traditional Herbal Registration (THR) scheme and meets the required standards relating to its quality, safety, evidence of traditional use and other criteria as set out under the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (THMPD) 2004/24/EC.

Under this scheme, the permitted indications for the medicine are based on traditional usage and not on evidence of effectiveness of the product.

Just in case you missed it: Under this scheme, the permitted indications for the medicine are based on traditional usage and NOT on evidence of effectiveness of the product.

Nuff said! Except this: Rule Britannia!

Two weeks ago I got my first case of poison ivy and it’s BAD. It’s still itching me like crazy and making it difficult for me to sleep.

Unfortunately at the last Crop Mob, I didn’t put the comment that was made while pulling weeds “Oh, I think this is poison ivy” together with the fact that I helped pick up the stacks of weeds when we were finished. That night I developed a headache, which got incredibly worse the next day – this was probably a fever that’s associated with a reaction to poison ivy. I’ve had a few more since then, including one today (sigh).

Last weekend my favorite witch doctor was around and he walked me through making a salve. Jewelweed is a common remedy, but we don’t have that at Circle Acres, so we collected plantain and rose leaves which have astringent properties that can be used for burns, stings, and rashes as well as aloe which facilitates the healing of skin problems.

In minutes I turned into swamp thing. For the first 30 minutes it burned and itched more so I figured that I just agitated it more, though that subsided and it barely bothered me for the rest of the day. Unfortunately this mix did not work for long term relief.

Next I tried using hot water that had one drop of tea tree oil in it. Heat can offer relief for hours and tea tree is an astringent that speeds up the healing process. This helped a lot, unless I wanted to do anything or go anywhere because of the friction that would irritate it again.

Finally, this weekend another friend suggested that I try clay (which is abundant here) to help dry it out like calamine lotion does. It worked for a while as well, and seemed to work well, but occasionally it still bothers me. I need to find jewelweed in the area and cultivate it for next time. If you have other remedies, I’d love to hear about them.

The American Elder, or common elderberry, (Sambucus canadensis) is a shrub that grows up to 13 feet high. It is a member of the honeysuckle family and is found in moist places along riverbanks, roadsides, woods and thickets. We are lucky to have it growing in our brush pile among the blackberry brambles and young volunteer walnut trees in our backyard. It was a favorite herb of Hippocrates; love making medicinals that the great Hippocrates would make for his patients! The berries of the elder are very nutritious. They provide large amounts of potassium, beta carotene, calcium, phosphorus and vitamin C. It works amazingly well on colds, excessive mucus, sore throat and the dreaded flu.

Last year when Fauna came down with the flu she took a couple tablespoons the first day and it zapped the fever and all symptoms within 24 hours! Usually, when Fauna gets sick she is sick for 3-5 days. Really amazing stuff!

I use Rosemary Gladstar’s recipe for elderberry syrup because it doesn’t use white processed sugar or alcohol. And it is quite tasty!

What you need:
1 cup fresh or 1/2 cup dried elderberries
3 cups water
1 cup raw local honey

Glass jar with lid
Steps:
1. Heat the berries and water to a boil, then reduce to simmer for 30-45 minuets.
2. Mash the berries, strain, and add 1 cup of honey. I add a half cup of the purple liquid to a measuring cup, then pour in honey until the total volume is 1 1/2 cups. Then stir to mix well, and add to the rest of the reserved liquid.
3. Bottle and store. Keeps in the refrigerator for 2-3 months.
4. Enjoy a tablespoon daily to keep the immune system strong. If sick, take more often at first signs of the flu. If you drink peppermint tea along with it, you increase the fighting punch!

*Caution, I am not a doctor and don’t pretend to be one. I am 100% sure of the identification of the plants I harvest and research like mad before posting a recipe. Some books say Elderberry leaves, seeds, bark, stems and root are toxic. Only the berries, which must be cooked first, and the blossoms are edible.Use your best judgement when using plants from the wild. You can also buy already made Elderberry syrup at your local health food store.

If you don’t have this wonderful herb growing in your garden, I highly advise you plant some s

If you don’t have this wonderful herb growing in your garden, I highly advise you plant some seeds in your garden next year. It tolerates poor soil and will come back every year because it reseeds like crazy. The petals and stems are edible; they make a pretty garnish to a salad but taste a tad bitter. We grow calendula not because it’s edible but because of its medicinal value. Herbalists use it for many ailments, too many to list here, but my favorite use of calendula is for the skin. You can use it as a local topical application to boost the healing rate and prevent infection on a wound or other skin conditions. Calendula is also fantastic for chapped and dry skin.

How to make a calendula infusion:

Fauna, my little apprentice, made this calendula infusion. She “popped the tops” from the calendula plants in the garden, put them in a glass jar, and poured grapeseed oil in the jar until all of the tops were submerged. Should you not have grapeseed oil on hand, almond, sesame and olive oil are all good carriers for infusions.

She locked up the lid and admired her calendula infusion. Now to let it steep for 1-2 weeks. Give it a shake periodically; when it starts getting really cloudy it is time to strain out the flowers.

After straining Fauna will have a wonderful healing oil ready to do its healing magic . She can mix the oil with lotion for dry skin or make an ointment or salve using beeswax.

It’s that time of year for picking wild blackberries and elderberries. And wherever the berrie

It’s that time of year for picking wild blackberries and elderberries. And wherever the berries grow, the poison ivy grows. Here is the remedy I use to prevent or treat that horrible itch (and other plant related rashes)!

You need: jewelweed, calendula blossoms (optional), apple cider vinegar, glass jar

This is poison ivy, avoid it at all costs. I find the new growth just darling and beautiful but don’t let that tempt you to touch it! Remember the rule “Leaves of three, let it be!”

This is jewelweed (Impatiens capensis). It likes the same habitat as poison ivy and stinging nettle; so if you see those, do a little hunt for jewelweed. Harvest 1 part jewelweed to 2 parts apple cider vinegar; please only harvest what you will use. Bruise the jewelweed up a bit, place it in a clean jar and cover with apple cider vinegar. Let it steep for a week or two, strain out the plant material and there you have the “magic elixir.” You can place the liquid in an ice cube tray and freeze for up to a year. When needed take the cube and rub onto the infected area. My sister Katrina keeps the plant and all in the vinegar and uses a cotton ball to apply; she keeps this on her bathroom counter, this is good too, but it won’t keep as long. Should you be out in the field and be exposed to poison ivy, split open the stem of the jewelweed and apply directly to infected area.

I like to add a couple of calendula blossoms to help heal the skin and moisturize. I also use this remedy for other plant related rashes and allergies. Like whenever the Little Ladies convince me to go into our field without long pants on, I always come out in pain with a grass rash!

However, how you act and feel about yourself are clearly partly determined by physical appearance. Over time it can even affect your physical health. In order to remain as healthy and beautiful as possible, be sure to understand your options.

The science of health and beauty encompasses a lot of areas. Here some of the major players are introduced:

* Health and Beauty Protection - Health and beauty protection includes the things that make your body resistant to difficulties.
READ THE REST OF THIS ARTICLE AT “YAHOO NEWS” Lead in ginkgo pills. Arsenic in herbals.

READ THE REST OF THIS ARTICLE AT “YAHOO NEWS”

Lead in ginkgo pills. Arsenic in herbals. Bugs in a baby’s colic and teething syrup. Toxic metals and parasites are part of nature, and all of these have been found in “natural” products and dietary supplements in recent years.

Set aside the issue of whether vitamin and herbal supplements do any good.

Are they safe? Is what’s on the label really what’s in the bottle? Tests by researchers and private labs suggest the answer sometimes is no.

One quarter of supplements tested by an independent company over the last decade have had some sort of problem. Some contained contaminants. Others had contents that did not match label claims. Some had ingredients that exceeded safe limits. Some contained real drugs masquerading as natural supplements.

“We buy it just as the consumer buys it” from stores, said Dr. Tod Cooperman, president of ConsumerLab.com. The company tests pills for makers that want its seal of approval, and publishes ratings for subscribers, much as Consumer Reports does with household goods.

Other tests, reported in scientific journals, found prenatal vitamins lacking claimed amounts of iodine, and supplements short on ginseng and hoodia — an African plant sparking the latest diet craze.

“There’s at least 10 times more hoodia sold in this country than made in the world, so people are not getting hoodia,” said Dr. Mehmet Oz, a heart surgeon and frequent Oprah Winfrey guest who occasionally has touted the stuff.

Industry groups say that quality problems are the exception rather than the rule.

“I believe that the problem is narrow, that the well-established and reputable brands deserve their reputations,” said Michael McGuffin, president of the American Herbal Products Association.

Today my boss “forced” me to go to the Emergency Room for an abscess on my foot. You see

Today my boss “forced” me to go to the Emergency Room for an abscess on my foot. You see, I live in SW FL, and we have some nasty little boogers out here. I didn’t know if I was bitten by a bug, had an ingrown hair, or a flesh-eating staph infection. All I know is that my foot went from being a size 7 to a 10 in the past couple of days.

The thing is, I don’t have insurance. In my old job, I had health insurance. Every year, I would receive my 2-3% salary increase at the same time I received my 20% health insurance premium increase. My last position that offered health insurance was kind enough to cover up to 60% of my premiums, but I would have to cover 100% for my family. In other words, I would not get a paycheck. I kindly declined their “generous” benefit. Finally, I had enough. I decided to study herbal medicine, scour the internet for home remedies, and treat myself.

I get it – honestly, I really get it. Businesses can’t afford to cover the ever increasing insurance premiums along with the taxes and my salary. I get it. What I don’t get is the lame-ass argument that government backed health insurance or government run health care is somehow sub-standard. Maybe it is, but what I know is that I just incurred a $400 bill for a doctor to look at my abscess, tell me I had a slight fever, and give me a prescription for antibiotics. You see, I had already been draining my sore, applying heat to draw out the pus, using Neosporin to heal the sore, and using ice to help the swelling. I think the lesson I learned today was simply that I should continue to do what I was doing all along.

I do not wish to denegrate doctors. I suppose they too are captives in this ridiculous game that we all play here in America. You know, it’s the one that advocates a free market, while victimizing the weakest of its citizens. When I don’t have insurance, I don’t care about long waits, treatment denied, or whether or not my favorite doctor is able to help me. All I want is to make sure my foot isn’t going to rot off from some exotic bacteria. Thanks to our “free market” I got that today…for $400.
