I’m digging the overall design of these shoes. They’re basic, which is something I’m always a fan of.  I’m also a fan of velcro straps because tieing shoes are a pain.  Either that or I’m just lazy. You can cop a pair at honeyee.

O cabelo Hi-Top, hoje, popularmente conhecido como “cabelo quadradinho” ou “cabelo do Will Smith”, fez sucesso da metade da década de 1980 até o começo da década de 1990.

O corte começou a aparecer na metade da década de 1980. Doug E. Fresh e Schooly D, foram uns dos primeiros a aparecerem usando. Com o tempo, o corte foi se popularizando. Artistas como Eric B. & Rakim, Kid-N-Play, Big Daddy Kane, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince usavam e, consequentemente, influenciaram vários jovens a usarem o cabelo Hi-Top.

No fim dos anos 1980, o Hi-Top já era um dos maiores símbolos da cultura urbana e o corte mais popular entre os jovens pretos. O cabelo ganhou variações na altura, largura, alguns rapavam o cabelo com o uso de uma navalha para fazer desenhos ou riscos, outros mudavam o formato, etc.

Big Daddy Kane (Sentado)

Apesar de ter sido popularizado por rappers, o corte foi usado por músicos dos mais variados estilos e se espalhou por toda a população preta (Por todo o mundo). Podia ser visto em pessoas de diferentes idades e estilos de vida.

Em “Do the Right Thing” (“Faça a Coisa Certa”, no Brasil), filme de 1989 do diretor Spike Lee, é possível ver a época em que o corte estava no auge. Vários personagens estão usando o Hi-Top, de formas variadas.

Com o passar dos anos, a altura dos cabelos foram diminuindo, juntamente com as varições no formato. Na segunda metade dos anos 1990, o corte já tinha perdido a força.

Em 2009, o Hi-Top ensaiou uma volta. Pharrell e Marcelo D2 foram uns dos que usaram (Por pouco tempo) e acabaram cortando.

Apesar de não ter voltado com força total, nos últimos 2 anos surgiu um movimento de jovens que estão trazendo de volta o que foi moda na cultura Hip-Hop na década de 80 e começo dos 90, usam roupas retrô, etc. O corte Hi-Top é bem popular entre eles. Mas isso é assunto pra outra passagem, né?

So, it looks like producer/grime artist Rapid is going to release a new track soon called ‘Go Rapid’. The Ruff Sqwad members haven’t been heard of for a while now, except Tinchy of course. Slix dropped Down Vol. 2 in 2008 and hasn’t been heard of since, nor has Fuda Guy after releasing the mixtape Head Gone. Dirty Danger has never released a mixtape, and we all know the story of Tinchy. You may think I’ve missed out Lee Brasco, but he’s not actually part of Ruff Sqwad amazingly…

Ruff Sqwad member Rapid was spotted donning a pair of high-top Reebok Classics on his latest video shoot. Alongside a brown NY New Era and Hooze Redi Jeans tee. But this time, we’re going to focus solely on the trainers. Recently we’ve spent too much time on shirts & hats, so I’ve taken this into consideration, and just doing the trainers this time (Either that or just pure laziness, I hear you Graeme – Ben).

So as you can see from the picture, the very recognisable Reebok Classics. This time though, in the high top version. Reebok Classics are what the name says, classic. A simple design, and I’m sure about 50% of people have had a pair at one point (It’s got to be higher than that! – Ben). But this time, it’s the turn of the high top version. This season Undercover sticks to its affinity for black and white but has a highly accessible and minimal modern take on its items a la Raf Simons and Jil Sander. The collection pares down in terms of adornments and design but highlights complexity instead with a mix of materials. The Hi-Top Sneaker from the latest Undercover offering sticks to the same route and incorporates interesting technical fabric for its mixed grey upper. The kicks also feature interesting lace-hoops and the overall look is slightly space age and also a little reminiscent of some Maison Martin Margiela sneakers. The Lanvin High Top Trainer comes for Fall/Winter 2009 in a jersey felt/suede version. They also added a wide ankle strap to it (A la Yeezy’s), along with some gold accents on the eyelets. im very particular about shoes. im not so much into logos & dont like alot of color other than the usual black or white & can be pursuaded into getting a pair of brown leather. when i seen the collection for the footwear brand clae, i fell in love with the simple designs. though not by dior or lanvin, i still love the style the shoes evoke. i compiled a group of my favorite pieces from there spring 2009 collection. from the minimalistic details to the sleek sole, i love these.

the diego model has basically a faultless design. this style here reminds me of a pair of lacoste shoes i used to have. the thing about lacoste footwear, even though it looks dope- there is no type of support. so you’ll look cute but its not good for your feet. i like this design alot for obvious reasons, i have a soft spot in my heart for white shoes.

at work, im strongly opposed to dress shoes. i know, i know. shoes can make or break an outfit & dress shoes can add a major plus to a professional look, im always wearing my khaki’s with some type of comfortable shoe. something a litte more casual. i admit i do think about just copping some cool loafers or something but i never deviate from a casual sneaker when i actually arrive in the store. the rollins piece, i imagine, could be stylistcally worked with some type of business casual outfit. i always reference hi-tops to a winter season, but if done the right way it can be pulled off.

if there were ever a break of color in the selections from the clae footwear collection, this would be it. i feel like the color is rich enough to get noticed, but subtle enough to stand the test of time. we all know that fashion has experienced a recent surge in 80’s fashion revival, but for me, i prefer to keep things classic, clean & minimal. these shoes bring all those elements & i love the simple construction of the shoe. its almost a chukka style but more stylish.

showcasing more of my love for white shoes, here is a hi-top alternative to the first selection i showed, the diego. the russel piece has a great combination of classic & futuristic elements. the white on white materials & usage of white patent leather set this piece off for me. i could see me wearing these in the winter for sure. i keeps it snow white.

similar to that of the russell piece, the thompson model sets itself apart with it contrast of white & grey. i love the detailing with the line of the shoe. another hi-top edition that i was & still am digging. i pay alot of attention to the sole of a shoe & also the type of laces, here both are perfectly fitting for my style.

the whitman is another dope dress shoe alternative, i love the look of a crisp white oxford against some khaki’s & white shoes, thats me. i like how the dressy elements is brough fourth with the detailing at the toe of the shoe. im not sure if you can see it that well, but i think that feature brings a freshness to the psychotically classic white shoe. a dope piece that can be worn with almost anything. i was really in love with the simplicity & wanted to take time to showcase some of my favorite pieces. on the official website, you can locate a retail location that sells clae footwear, in addition to ordering online. if you like what you see, i encourage you to take a moment to review the other pieces of the collection. always keep it fresh, keep it clean & keep is classic.
