Ah, life. That thing that happens when you’re busy making plans. A lot has changed since March, I’m sure, but I’m not going to worry about filling in the gaps.

The last few months have provided the usual hotchpotch of business, love, charity and disintegrating relationships (in reverse order of financial gain, and – hopefully – ascending order of personal growth). The Pirate and I are done, in the friendliest way possible, and even have our own break-up song:

There was a brief relationship with a new man, which was an incredible re-awakening of my romantic senses, and a subsequent break-up caused by his arguing style. So damn repetetive. I like my arguments to have the decency to appear to be moving in a forward-like direction.

I realise now… blessed hindsight… that the two years I spent with the Pirate had little to do with love, and more to do with a lack of disgust, as Eoin Colfer succinctly puts it in the next episode of the thrilling Hitchiker’s series. I do feel a little wiser than I did this time two years ago, but I also feel cynical and disillusioned, which will hopefully pass.

Cynicism aside, I’m enjoying the freedom of being alone again… and knowing that I don’t need anybody else. I had one of those rare moments of insight on a bus last week, when I suddenly wanted to sing and embrace the person sitting across from me. I managed to hold back from hugging strangers, but I did smile the whole way home.

So life is moving on, and I’m trying to keep up with it.

How have you been?!

Bad news, Gleeks: FOX announced its 2009-2010 mid-season schedule on Tuesday and it looks like the return of ratings titan American Idol will spell the end of Glee — at least for a while. The campy musical hit will take a break from new episodes from Dec. 9 to April 13 to make room on the schedule for the network’s juggarnaut singing competition.

Super sad to hear that Glee will end December 9th and not return until April. What is it with my favorite shows deciding to take long hiatuses (Lost, ALIAS, etc.) Ugh.

Due to me suddenly developing my mutant powers of electromagnetism, The Whispering Gallery will be put on hiatus. Okay, I’m not a mutant, unfortunately, but the internet port on my computer is not working, and I’ll be missing from the net until I a) get it working again, b) get a wireless transmitter and use my wireless internet until I can c) get a new computer. So I’ll be at least AWOL from the net until the middle of December, which is when I get home AND get my student loan, which will enable me to get a transmitter thing. I’ll also have to take my xbox to be repaired, because it got the second most common problem after the Red Ring of Death, video and audio failure. Two days before my computer broke. Mutant powers getting more and more possible, yes? Still, it’s only two years since I bought it, and in Norway, all electronic equipment has a five-year sort of guarantee, so I’m WAY in the clear. ‘course, the store I bought it at has a bad reputation. Should they fuck things up, they will be named in this blog later, be you sure. But I’m signing off. See you closer to Christmas, guys.

2. A slight pause that occurs…

Although we haven’t broken the space time continuum, we have certainly been on pause with our lead singer moving to California after the recording of our new record. But cheer up, because he’s moving back home after much thought and consideration.

How many album titles have you gone through for the new project? This would be the third. The first being Phasing Out The Juggernaut, the second was self-titled. We settled on a narrative ep called The Rise Of Resistor to capture the unique inspiring writing pouring from Seamus’s mind.. It was fitting in many ways and honest to us.

When will Apophenia’s next show be? We are looking for bands/booking/venues on these matters, and are currently setting up a slew of dates for 2010. If you have live events you’d like to see Apophenia perform in email apopheniamusic@yahoo.com

How many songs are on the new cd? You can expect 6 songs fully produced by George Fullan and us. There are also a bunch of acoustic songs recorded in California by Seamus and a few pre-production out-takes from the recording of TROR we are considering putting on the cd, although at this time we might release some for download on our reverbnation (we’ll post a blog when we do that of course!)

When can I expect more from this band that I am a fan of?: JANUARY 2010! We are in ways going to be reunited as a different band.. A lot of individual material and experience will come back to one rehearsal room come late December. The next recordings are anyone’s guess as far as sound goes.. We are certainly excited to start booking, promoting our first produced ep, and climb our way through the long Island indie rock scene to a place somewhere we can call our own. To friends and family we thank you for supporting us from that first house party show in Elmont, the release show at The Knitting Factory, buying shirts and cds… Most importantly enjoying the art we aspire to create, and taking part in our story, through strife and fortune. – APOPHENIA

Good day! ^^ Just leaving a short message. Level 64 now and I’m taking an in-game hiatus for the meantime. There are things that I have to take care of. I will still try to update this site when I have the time and I’ll try to come back soon enough. Enjoy the game everyone!

I hate to do this, but I gotta put the blog on pause for a little bit. Just spent 15 hours traveling to get home from Savannah to DC, and I’m heading out again tomorrow to go north to my old university to meet up with some friends, then off to California to visit family for Thanksgiving! I am going to be one busy busy bee for a while, and won’t have my laptop to access the internet.

I know I have some outstanding comments to reply to and posts to write, but I’m afraid I will have to call rain check.

Hey everyone! Haven’t posted anything in a while… sorry! Well, the good news now, the funk rockers, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are getting out of their hiatus since 2008 to perform on the charity concert MusiCares on January 29 2010.  Last month, the LA rockers went in the studio to record their follow up to their 2006 double album Stadium Arcadium (Charlie FTW!) which is gonna be released next year. That means TOUR!! Hope those guys are able to come to Lima someday, since Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand and Depeche Mode played here and some are yet to play here soon, maybe they can get on the huge wave of concerts that is making Lima the music capital of south america step by step.

After I had worked on the mission for the first year or so, I went home to Ohio for a visit.  I went to church with my mother and father.  They went to a small congregation that had left a larger  group because of doctrinal issues.  I should say the leaders of the group left because the old congregation had abandoned vital doctrines; there were some taggers-along who accompanied them for more selfish issues.

Most of these were people who had known me since I was a child and everyone was aware that I was working on the mission.  There were many questions after the service about the work, the people and the things I’d seen there. 

I remember one older couple who had only one child.  Their daughter was the apple of their eye and very much overprotected and indulged.  The family loved music and everyone played an instrument or sang with more or less success.  They descended on me as the after service visiting was winding down, all excited about the work and the prospects ‘for service.’  They asked questions about the ‘music program’ and the ‘educational program’.  They wanted to know how one got involved in that work and thought that it was a wonderful opportunity for their daughter to contribute to the work of the Lord and further her experience at the same time.

I was a little confused about ‘how to get involved’ in the work.  I hadn’t set out to get involved in the work.  The Lord had pointed his finger at me and said, “I picked you to go and teach in my service.”  There was no “getting involved” to it.   When I wrote McCormick’s  I discovered that although they had  been praying for a teacher, they’d had no other candidates.  It was a given and accepted that I would be there for the beginning of the school year.

The couple asked about my working hours.  They were a little taken aback when they discovered that my days ran frequently into nine hours and I worked nine hours a day and five on Saturdays.  On Sundays, I taught a Sunday school class and spelled the dorm mothers on alternating weekends.  And in addition I helped out with serving meals in the evenings.  Those hours seemed a little heavy to them and they asked about who assigned the hours and job roster.  They brightened a little when I said it was a voluntary schedule.  Perhaps their sweet ‘Cathy’ would be able to pursue an easier workload.  They weren’t sure she could tolerate such a demanding schedule.

Their final question concerned the salary I received for my services.  They of course understood that I would not be remunerated (honest, that’s the way they talked) at the same rate as public school but they assumed it was a ‘livable wage.’   

Now I had been raised in a pretty fundamentalist Bible family. ( Those of you who know, will understand when I tell you it was ‘old-time’ Church of God.)  I was brought up to comprehend that if the Lord called you to do something, you went and did not question but knowing that He would provide the means. The missionary examples of my childhood were living men and women who stepped out to serve God with five dollars in their wallet and no guarantee of anything more.  They weren’t just stories; they were living men and women.  I met them and knew them!

When I contacted McCormicks about coming as a teacher I did not ask about salary nor did they offer any.  In fact, they very considerately warned me that there was no salary.  I went to the mission with no promise from anyone of any funding at all.  I tried, in the most considerate way possible, to let these doting parents know that if their daughter wanted to ‘serve’ she would have NO promise of any financial consideration at all. 

The rain crashed quickly and cruelly on their parade.  Their countenances fell from bright smiles of anticipation to utter desolation.  They could hardly take a courteous departure quickly enough.  In fact it was rather too abrupt to truly be considered courteous.  I felt sorry for them.

 That was nearly 40 years ago.  How much further have we come from the fundamentals that I was raised with?  Do men and women of God still step out to serve where ever He calls them without any consideration of financial backing?   I don’t know.  If you know anyone who serves the Lord on that basis, tell them to let me know that they are still standing on the principles of our Christian fathers.

I’m back after my extended hiatus from this Blog. The reason for the break was my moving to a new place to live. So I’m now all settled in and ready to get back into it all.

The other thing is, that I have also decided to broaden my horizons and post not only photos, but also videos, quotes and links, but still only one post a day every day. I just felt I needed a little more scope with material to post.

So, my new post will follow here soon.

I’m taking a little break to sharpen the brain. Gone back to school, finally…

Solar Dog Records will be up and running again sometime in the Spring of 2010.
