I can say that if I planed this right, I could have been there. I would probably have had my most successful call up of all time since they are calling up by the heaviest person. That sounds like my kind of race. I plan on going out to this race next year, so we will see if I can bring home the gold. Nats’ Clydesdale Championships Details Released

Speaking of gold, I am in the process of building my Raleigh High Life cyclocross bike. I have been drooling ove this bike since I saw the Ranier brewery bikes from last season. I jumped at the chance to pick this bike up and paid a bit more than my usual employee price calls for, but this bike was worth every penny. I am still in the process of building her up. I am going to race her this weekend, but she will probably not live with the same parts that are on it now. I will keep updating to let you know how she looks as we go along.

Here is a preview…

Lying down on this cement floor. My ass cheeks kissing the floor reluctantly, as my balls in scream

Lying down on this cement floor. My ass cheeks kissing the floor reluctantly, as my balls in scream in protest. “Get up fool, have some respect, you are making me go bluuuuueeeee….”

Yes, my balls talk. But I can’t move. Instead, I lie in the place that I fell. I had too much. Fucking Charlie!

Now what’s different here is, I normally write a post about what I have done being stoned. Today I was thinking of what to write and I thought that maybe I should write something I haven’t done and then do it before I post. So, I planned to fuck myself up by smoking a big J alone. It’s a Saturday. It’s raining and I am at home bored. So I decided to make a big night of it. My idea for a big night alone, smoke a big one and lie down in the cold darkness, naked and alone and think.

Now this is what actually happened. So I rolled, I smoked. Had some trouble finding a light, and had to go to the gas cooker to light the damn thing, and it was a bit scary. I don’t like playing with fire, unless it’s metaphorical. After I was done, I took of my ‘Sexy’ Boxers and lay down on the cold cement floor of my room. It was so cold. Yet I did not want to move. And seriously, my balls were protesting.

So I lay there immobilized, slowly losing my motor skills and grinning into the darkness. This was liberating. Wish I was up on a ledge or something with the cold night air around me instead of the confines of my little room. I was playing music in the background. My favourite band, jamming it loud. Deffa stoner music, I tell you. It was amazing. All the intricate little details of the song were magnified and listening to it made my heart race. This is everything I had planned to do for the night. The next is when my mind took over my plans and decided to change them.

I couldn’t stay down much longer. Part of me wanted to get up and part of me just want to be the vegetable on the floor. I debated this for a long time. Long time because my mind started going haywire and I forgot about what decision I was taking and thought about other stuff. Like, what would happen if I died right now? How would my parents justify what I was doing in my final hours? What if I had a twin, would he be as awesome as me? Would he do the same things I do? That would be weird though.

Then I finally decided to get up when my favourite song was playing. It was as task and the world spun a bit, but I did get up. Now what do I do? I could feel the music in my veins, slowly talking over. The solemn guitar riffs and the thudding double bass were taking over my body. Everything that made them the best band in the world was taking over me. And then I began head-banging like crazy, like I have never before. In the dark, I couldn’t see shit. This was liberation at its ultimate. I cranked up the volume more and fucking banged like I was watching them live. Air guitar man, I was the air guitar god I nmy own little naked universe. And I gotta tell you, I was naked… my head wasn’t the only thing banging

Disclaimer: This post is somewhat disjointed, for the sole reason that I was very ‘jointed’ when I wrote this.

I hustled to finish by Raleigh Hilife last night. It is pieced together with some parts from my base

I hustled to finish by Raleigh Hilife last night. It is pieced together with some parts from my basement, and some sweet new stuff that I have picked up in the past two weeks. It was raining like crazy last night, so I really had no chance to go for a test ride, but today was a different story. I was able to sleep in for a bit today, but soon after I got up, I got suited up for a Thanksgiving ride in shorts and a jersey. No extra layers, warmers, hoods, etc. A short sleeve jersey, bib shorts and a helmet. Thank you global climate change!

The drive train for the Hilfe is set up as a “dingle”speed. I want to be able to use this bike for cross and for riding on the road. I picked a ratio of 39:17 (2.29) for my low (cross racing gear) and 42:13 (3.23) for my high (street gearing). Even though I do not have much faith in road chains on single speeds, I went out with the knowledge that I would have to fix the chain at least once. My real goals for the ride were to dial in the fit for the bike, check the gearing on varied terrain and enjoy some of the great Thanksgiving weather.

I had a short ride planned because we were eating Thanksgiving “dinner” at noon. I put the bike on the road gearing and took off. There were some pops and other noises form coming from the chain, but that was to be expected. I did not want to push it too hard, but I had designs on making it to a certain location to then take a look at the chain again. I didn’t quite make it. The chain snapped on a climb. I was not that bummed because I planned on this being the case.

The bike has track ends with built in tensioners, so moving the wheel around to get the proper chain tension is pretty easy. I made the rookie mistake of starting with a short chain instead of a long one. If I had a long chain, I would be able to drop a few links before I was reaching the limit of how short the chain can be. I was limited in the gearing that was now available to me. I only had the 39×13 to spin home on. That is an ok gear, but one tooth of the 13t was bent in a bout two seconds of climbing, so it made an awful pop every time I went past this tooth on the ride home. Eventually I just started peddling half a stroke at a time to avoid breaking the chain again and walking much further than i initially thought I would.

I stopped along the way to get some pictures of the bike in a nice farmers field.

The current build on the bike is as follows:

Raleigh Hilife Frame 55cm

Easton EC90 Carbon fork paint scheme matched to bike

FSA Cycloross Headset

Bars and Stem are no namers in Silver

Brake Calipers are Gold froglegs

Brake levers are 105 STI

Seatpost Specialized Carbon with Zerts Jawn

Crank Old Shimano 105

Wheels XT Disc Hubs hand built wheels.

Chain From my parts bin

Pedals Shimano something or others

Tires Bontrager Bald cross tires.

I sold my Specialized Tricross bike on Wednesday! This bike was one of the most perfect bikes out of

I sold my Specialized Tricross bike on Wednesday! This bike was one of the most perfect bikes out of the box. I recommend anyone get this bike. I raced two seasons on it and used it for countless rides on some mixed-use trails and paths. For the most part the bike was perfect. I was not getting rid of it because I didn’t like it, because it performed perfectly all the time, and made me feel fast once in a while. The problem with this bike is that it had no soul.

I am a bike snob. Not like the guy in New York, but I like to have unique bikes that stand out just a little bit. The only change I made to this bike was to put some Eleganza bike ribbon on it and white brake housing instead of the black that it came with. There was not really too much I could do to that bike to make it my own. If I am not going to be fast, I might as well look good doing it!

DCCX 08

Really what happened was that I got a great offer on buying a Bilinky cross bike and I am waiting for my Raleigh Hilife to get here. These two bikes are unique enough for me and will give me plenty of chance to build up two pretty slick rides.

The guy who bought it paid for it pretty quickly, so everything worked out pretty well. The only problem was that it was in pieces! I took the bike apart to clean it and maybe just sell the frame few weeks ago, but never got it back together. This gave me the opportunity to do some dancing with my bikes.

With the sale of the Tricross, I had to take the wheels that belonged with that bike off of my Surly Cross-Check and put the spare Cane Creek wheels on the Cross-Check. I took the Ksyerium Elites off of the Tricross to put them on the problem child. (Indy Fab). The Chris Kings that were on the problem child are going on my Bilenkey.

All of this required not only a change in tires but also cassettes for almost all of them, because some of the wheels were going between shimano 9 speed and Sram 10. This was an exercise in patience, and organization. The last thing I wanted to do was put the wrong cassette or tire on the wrong wheels. The only real issue was some of the valves were too short for their new wheels, so there were some tube changes along the way.

After moving all the bike stuff around and tuning up the problem child and Tricross, I decided to mess around with my camera. I have designs on using a tripod to shoot the race this weekend, so I wanted to play with some shutter speeds and lights. I just set the tripod up to do some self portrates. I have a project coming up that I will talk about later, that I am going to need some self shots for, so I figured there was no time like the present to get some shots in. Here are the results.

With no real background in this camera stuff, I think I am starting to figure it out.
