Copy/Paste from Original Blog

Continuing on from yesterday…

Next up is the Switch gear. Depending on what turbine you are at, some GRPs have up to 3 circuit breakers in them. All GRPs have an earth switch. Here you can see some switch gear with the cover on.

Below: switch gear with cables ready for jointing

Below: circuit breaker switch, requires a key to be turned

Below: earth switch

And here’s how they are connected. It takes a fair bit of time connecting the HV cables to one of these. I was shown how the connection is made, but it takes a while to explain, and without pictures will be boring.

Below: half finished joints

Below: fully finished joints with earthing installed

Now to see what is inside the Switch gear.

Below: behind the “circuit breaker” panel

Below: behind the “earth switch” panel

Lots of electronics.

Below: protection relay for motor

Here’s some switch gear with motor controls. This is the expensive equipment at ~£50k. Switchgear with 3 Circuit breakers weighs about 660kg, whereas switchgear with 1 circuit breaker weighs ~300kg

Below: motorised circuit breakers

Below: full view of switchgear without panel

The switch gear electronics are connected to the SCADA control panel. This is the “brain” of each turbine. Here you can see inside one.

Below: inside the SCADA control box

You’ve got backup batteries, routers, circuit breakers and lots of different switches.

Below: various connections, we installed and tested the brown ones

Below: router and circuit breaker

Below: backup battery

I got to help commission the SCADA panel. This involved connecting up the switch gear with SCADA connectors block and testing to make sure everything works are intended. We weren’t able to test all the features, since they only provided half the controls. It was quite interesting seeing the schematic for everything and they trying to work out what goes where.

Oh and here’s the Fibre Optic entry point and control box. I never got to see inside this since it was contracted to be done by another company. However I did get to see the test results and read the performance tests for each cable connection.

Below: mysterious fibre optic box

Below: entry point of fibre optic cables

Also everything has to be grounded. Here are some examples.

Below: HV cable grounding

Below: Transformer grounding

Another job I got to do was 5kV Megger Testing. It basically involved measuring the resistance from ground to each cable or from cable to cable. I also got to do this test on the transformer. The Megger injects 5kV (500V on the LV winding to earth test) for a minute and then write down the resistance value. Typical values were in the GΩ range. You also have to make sure you discharge what you were testing, or else you get a shock .

So now you’ve got your GRP control equipment you need the turbine. Well sadly I left the week before the first turbine was being put up. However, I will be going back sometime to see a turbine being erected, so I’ll be sure to post my experience then! For now here’s the base the turbine will be sitting on. Again everything is earthed.

Below: base for future turbine

That reminds me, another test we did was “Earth Testing” using the 61.8% Rule. It’s a quality inspection to find out what resistance the earth is at. In order to pass the test you need to be under 10Ω. Everything onsite passed this test eventually.

That’s everything I was involved with onsite, however there was loads more going on. In particular the substation. The substation converts the 33kV up to 132kV for distribution across the country. I only got some distance shots of everything, however when I go back on site to see the turbines they might let me in and have a look around.

Below: 132kV substation

During my time there a pylon fell down. Luckily it was not live otherwise a huge chunk of the grid would have to be shut off. Here you can see some shots of the pylon lying in a heap.

Below: oops

Some stressed cables.

Below: pylon to the left of the fallen one

Below: pylon to the right of the fallen one

Below: up close look the stressed insulators on the left pylon

That’s all the pictures taken of various pieces of equipment. However, because the wind farm is being built in the middle of nowhere you get a great opportunity to see some fantastic sites. Here is the view looking out from the highest point on site. You can see right across into Fife from here on a clear day.

There are also all sorts of wildlife roaming around, as well as cows and sheep. The cows even block your entrance into the GRPs sometimes. Sadly I wasn’t able to catch any exciting animals on camera, but I do have this sheep that was avidly watching me.

Below: – stare -

So that about wraps up my experience at the Crystal Rig 2 wind farm. Hopefully this was of interest, and I’ll be sure to post any pictures I manage to take when I head back to see the turbines being put up. I’ll leave some more pictures of the existing turbines. I managed to get quite close to them, and they do make quite a load humming noise.

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to blog about what I did at my recent work placement, but I’ve decided “what the hell”. At least it will help me compile everything that happened which I can then use as a memory aid. Also it might be interesting to anyone who is seeking a job in the High Voltage and Power sectors, or even just general interest. I’ll post various pictures I took while I was there, and provide some details as to what’s going on (since a wall of text is boring).

Over my summer holidays I managed to get some experience working on a wind farm. The site is called Crystal Rig II and is currently under construction. It is located next to 2 existing wind farms: Crystal Rig I and Aikengall. Aikengall contains 16 3MW wind turbines, and they are ~125m tall. The Crystal Rig I wind farm contains 20 2.5MW turbines. The Crystal Rig II project was initially going to be ~50 3MW turbines, but this was extended to 60 3MW turbines.

Below: some pictures of the existing turbines

In order to get your wind farm started you need cables. Big HV cables. Well on site they used various different cross sectional area and length depending on what job the cable had to perform. If it is a main feeder cable from the substation it was either 600mm2 or 540mm2. For smaller cable runs they used 180mm2, 300mm2 and 400mm2 cable. The most common one on site was 180mm2.

Below: a picture of lots of HV cables coming out the ground

As well as HV cables, this wind farm is laying Fibre Optic cables for data transfer between each turbine and the main control station. The wind farm will be accessible over the internet and engineers will be able to remotely control the whole site. The Fibre Optic cable used is 16 core.

The whole site is also connected to a common earth which runs through everything.

Also, because power is distributed using the 3-phase system, 3 cables had to be laid per connections. So sometimes you would end up with a trench with 9 HV cables, an earth and Fibre Optic. The cables themselves are very heavy; the heaviest drum was 3.5 Tonnes. By the end of my placement they had finished laying all the HV cables, for a total of about 1500km underground cable.

So now you’ve got your cables they need to go somewhere. Green huts! Each turbine will have a GRP which houses all the important control equipment. This includes a transformer, switchgear (circuit breaker and earth switch), SCADA control panel, fibre optics control box and probably some other stuff that hasn’t been delivered to the site while I was there.

Below: GRP

Here you can see the transformer being used.

This is a 690/33kV transformer. The connection used is Delta-Star. Delta-Star connection is used because if a fault develops between the 2 windings the current has an escape point to earth. The LV side on these transformers is the Star connection as seen here. This is where the turbine will be connected.

Below: LV winding of transformer. Blue is neutral, then you have 3 of Brown, Black and Grey for each phase

There is also one “special” transformer on site. Its job is to provide power directly to the main control station. Sadly I have no pictures of the control station to show you. What they have done is instead of building a new building they have opted to renovate an existing ruin. The building is very high spec, with Lamb’s wool insulation and original stone work.

Here’s the special transformer.

J-Crown Champion Ultimo Dragon (w/Sonny Oono) vs. Rey Mysterio

For those unaware, the J-Crown is EIGHT lightweight championships combined from promotions all around the world. The funny part is and possibly the most annoying for the champion is that he’s got to carry around all those eight titles instead of having just one belt to represent all the belts. Needless to say, the J-Crown championship was short-lived and when the WWF came calling for their light heavyweight championship all of a sudden (which was one of the eight championships) in the fall of 1997, the J-Crown status was absolved and all the belts returned to be defended in their particular promotion. Anyways, this is match #2 in the three part series of the Mysterio-Dragon PPV matches. Mysterio won the first match at Hog Wild in Dragon’s debut and now that he’s got a boost of confidence in winning all those belts, maybe he can pick up the win here especially now that Rey has just lost the cruiserweight belt four weeks ago at Halloween Havoc. Alright that’s enough set up talk, let’s get to the match.

After a short feeling out process, they flip around to come to a stalemate. Enough of that, Dragon puts Rey down with his famous kick combo and corners him for some chops. Rey lands on the apron and looks for a springboard, but Dragon stops that with a springboard dropkick to put Rey on the floor. Awesome! Dragon hits a German suplex and then puts Mysterio in a lucha backbreaker rack drop. Rey outlasts a half crab, but then Dragon powerbombs him and lifts him back up for a hotshot! WHAT. Cover, 1-2-NO! Dragon gives Rey the Giant Swing! After so many spins, Dragon ends up making himself dizzy too. Fisherman buster gets two. Brainbuster gets another two. Tombstone piledriver gets a THIRD nearfall in a row! They go to the floor where Dragon drops Rey with ANOTHER tombstone! While Mysterio’s laid out, Dragon gives him a slingshot splash! Back inside, he hits the DRAGONSTEINER for 1-2-NO! RUNNING LIGERBOMB gets 1-2-NO! Mysterio catches Dragon charging in the corner and follows up with a springboard split-legged moonsault for 1-2-NO! Rey flips out to the apron off a whip and springboard dropkicks Dragon to the floor. He continues with the offense and wipes out Dragon with a springboard somersault plancha! Incredible. In the ring, Rey delivers a springboard sunset flip for 1-2-NO! Awesome cartwheel into a spinning hurracanrana gets 1-2-NO! Dragon comes back with a Dragon Suplex right on Rey’s head for 1-2-NO! He tries another Running Ligerbomb, but Rey sunset flips out for 1-2-NO! WHOA. So many convincing nearfalls. Rey calls for the SPRINGBOARD HURRACANRANA which always wins, but this time Dragon catches him in mid-air and bounces him off the rope into a powerbomb for 1-2-3! (13:47) Wow just an absolutely awesome match. I LOVE that finish too. A slingshot powerbomb? Who thinks of this stuff? Just incredible. Easily a MOTYC here. Next month, Dragon wants Malenko and his Cruiserweight belt. At the time, Ultimo Dragon held NINE total championships – that’s one other belt outside of the J-Crown. The cruiserweight belt would make a ridiculous ten championships at once. That’s insanity. But hey, when you’re a champ, you’re a champ all the way. ****½

In the back, DDP avoids Gene’s question about whether or not he’s got anything to do with Eric Bischoff since he’s his next door neighbor and all. You know what Gene, Page does in fact owe his great hair to Head & Shoulders. Don’t be jealous. BANG!

Chris Jericho (w/Teddy Long) vs. Nick Patrick

For this match, Jericho has to wrestle Patrick with one arm tied behind his back. Nick Patrick comes out looks all sleazy. He wrestles in a sleeveless zebra shirt, black pants, white boots, and one of those soft collars. Jericho shoulderblocks and hiptosses Patrick around to start. He stalls and gets in Teddy Long’s face for a moment. Back inside, he slaps Jericho and then takes a slap to send him flying to the floor. Patrick finally gains an advantage when Jericho misses a clothesline up against the ringpost. Back in again, Patrick punches Jericho around in the corner, but charges into a boot and takes a bunch of turnbuckle smashes. Patrick leads Jericho in and out of the ring to stomp him on his way back inside, but then he gets slammed off the top (WOO!) and eats a superkick for the 1-2-3. (8:02) I know Nick Patrick used to be a wrestler before he hurt himself and became a referee, but he did pretty darn good since that was about fifteen years ago. Tony tells Patrick to go home to daddy. In case you don’t get the inside joke, his daddy is the Assassin who RULED the southern territories as a masked heel back in the day and in 1996, he ran the WCW Power Plant. Actually not that bad to sit through and it’s certainly satisfying to see Patrick get owned if you can forget about referees usually getting merely bumped and knocked out for five minutes. They’re usually so feeble! *½

Gene Okerlund brings out a rehabilitating Ric Flair. While this crowd was already molten hot, Flair comes out to help them become a little hotter. He promises the wrestling public that before it’s all said and done, he will dance all night and dance a little longer, stay all night and stay a little longer. Oh yeah and the new World order will belong to the WCW. WOO! Wait, what?

The Giant vs. Jeff Jarrett

Giant wears the US belt with him to the ring. Schiavone says that Flair is no longer the champ because of not defending the belt in 30 days. Jarrett spends the whole match trying to knock Giant off his feet. When he fails, Giant takes over and chokes and chops on him. Wait a minute, here comes STING! Meanwhile, Giant misses a pump splash (yep, even back then) and Jarrett takes him off his feet with a flying bodypress for 1-2-NO! As Sting jumps the rail, Giant gets dumped. Jarrett doesn’t notice anything and takes this opportunity to do the Fargo Strut. While the ref is counting on Giant, Sting hops in the ring and gives Jarrett the SCORPION DEATH DROP! Once Sting leaves, Giant waits for Jarrett to stagger up to his feet and delivers the CHOKESLAM for the academic 1-2-3. (6:52) This achieved a couple things. It continues Sting punishing Jarrett for waltzing in here all of a sudden and demanding that he stop being a loser and become the leader for WCW against the nWo. Secondly it allowed Giant to finally chokeslam Jarrett when he said he couldn’t do it. And yeah, that pretty much ends Giant’s feud with the Horsemen. ¾*

It’s time for a contract signing! There’s a table with a plaid cover ready in the ring and Roddy Piper comes out with the contract in hand. Get out here, Hogan. Instead of seeing Hogan, Eric Bischoff comes out wearing an nWo t-shirt, Ted DiBiase, and Vincent. Bischoff says that Hollywood isn’t coming out to sign this because he’s a little busy looking over some scripts and has made Bischoff his power of attorney, so he can sign the contract in his place. First of all, Piper reminds Vincent that he taught him how to fight, so he better back off. Piper handles these three by being able to talk over all them. He doesn’t care about no WCW or nWo. To Piper, nWo means ‘no way out’. And somewhere Vince is thinking that might not be a bad name for a PPV. When Piper gets up in Bischoff’s face, Bischoff reminds him that he can fine Piper for whatever it is he’s about to do. O RLY? How much would it cost him? Piper gets a little off track and then tells Bischoff that this match against Hogan is no-DQ, no countouts – there must be a winner to find out who the real icon is. Piper doesn’t want to look at Bischoff anymore, he calls Hogan out again. And here comes Hollywood along with the rest of the new World order. First of all, Hollywood says he’ll sign the contract, but then he brings up Piper’s hip replacement. Show everybody the scar, Roddy! Hogan proceeds to call Piper a cripple and “Pegged Leg Pete”. Piper finally has enough and slaps Hogan away. Big mistake. The nWo swarms on him while Hogan blasts his scar with a chair and then spray paints the nWo letters across his hip! Before the nWo leaves, Piper gets to his feet and turns the table over to prove a point. He WILL NOT DIE! While the build towards this match is pretty awesome, it’s a shame that it can’t live up to it.

Harlem Heat (w/Sister Sherri) vs. The Amazing French Canadians (w/Col. Robert Parker)

If the Heat win, Sherri gets five minutes with Col. Parker. Hopefully this time she won’t bump her head and fall in love with him. During the Canadian national anthem, Sherri wonders if the AFC think they’re at the MTV music awards. SUH-NAP! Jacques kips up after a shoulderblock and nails Booker with a dropkick, but then eats a Hook Kick. Tag to Stevie Ray for a double clothesline. Jacques catches Stevie Ray with a jumping back elbow, but has to tag in Oulette to put him down with a clothesline. Stevie Ray nails Oulette with a back suplex and Bicycle Kicks him down for two. Oulette gets stuck in the Heat corner for a while. Scissors Kick connects. Booker misses an elbow and SPINAROONIES up into a Jumping Leg Lariat. Jacques pulls the top rope down on Booker to send him flying to the floor. Back in, Jacques slams Oulette on top of Booker and continues the double teams with a double hotshot. Boston crab/flying legdrop on Booker gets two. Stevie Ray gets a hot tag and press slams Rougeau on top of Oulette. It breaks down into a pier-six brawl and the ref gets sandwiched in the corner. Booker misses a Jumping Leg Lariat and gets crotched and falls to the floor. That leaves Stevie Ray alone with the AFC for a SPIKE PILEDRIVER! With the Heat all down and out, Oulette makes a scaffold in the corner with a table and then puts the ring steps on top of the table. He puts another bundle of steps down on the mat to make for a SUPER QUEBECER CRASH! OH MY GOSH! Too bad it completely misses. I mean it took all of a whole minute to set up. Jacques gets kicked to the floor while Booker delivers the HARLEM HANGOVER to Oulette for the 1-2-3. (9:15) Standard formula tag with a silly finish. Kind of cool, but kind of silly too. I mean, really guys? Afterwards, Sherri gets her alone time with Parker and beats him to the back after about a minute or two. About what we expected with that. **

Tony Schiavone is wiping away the TEARS of laughter. Yes, TEARS.

On the WCW Hotline, Gene says he’ll tell you who the latest superstar is that will be coming to WCW! Well whoever he is, I’ll bet he’ll be just perfect for WCW.

WCW World Cruiserweight Champion Dean Malenko vs. Psychosis

Malenko stretches Psychosis down on the mat to start. During the mat work, somebody apparently is getting kicked out of the building. Who knows. Finally, it picks up a little as Psychosis takes Malenko to the floor, but then he misses a leap to the floor and slams his face on the guardrail. Oww? Back in, Malenko returns to the mat with a headscissors. He changes over to a nasty vertical half crab and then levels Psychosis with a butterfly powerbomb into a TEXAS CLOVERLEAF, but Psychosis is in the ropes. They fight to the floor while Malenko cranks on the knee. Psychosis mounts a comeback with a pumphandle backbreaker and then NAILS Malenko with a corkscrew senton on the floor! WHAT. Back in, Psychosis delivers a GUILLOTINE LEGDROP for 1-2-NO! Malenko avoids a charge, but gets caught up top and takes a rana to the mat for 1-2-NO! Whoa, Psychosis catches Malenko with a rolling Koppou kick. We see a DOUBLE REVERSAL on a tombstone piledriver which Dean wins. Cover, 1-2-NO! Malenko eats a boot off a corner charge, but avoids a leapfrog and gets the rolling clutch into a bridge for the 1-2-3. (14:34) Took too long to get where it was going to be great. However it did include quite a few awesome nearfalls. Certainly not as great as the Dragon-Rey match, but still a very good match. ***½

WCW World Tag Team Champions The Outsiders vs. The Nasty Boys vs. The Faces of Fear (w/Jimmy Hart)

I do believe this is the final WCW PPV for the Nasty Boys. While Knobbs would wrestle on his own later in WCW, I know this is certainly the end of PPVs for Jerry Sags. Anyways, they clean house on the Outsiders before the Faces of Fear even make it to the ring. Once the Faces of Fear make it to the ring, the Outsiders stand back while the other two teams beat the crap out of each other. As you might expect, there’s a lot of CLUBBERIN’. Knobbs gets cornered in the champs corner for a while. Hall kicks Barbarian in the head a bunch and that wakes him up. The Faces of Fear slug him around until the Nasties take over. Sags hits a PILEDRIVER on Barbarian and gets two. Nash lays out Barbarian with the Side Slam. In comes Hall, the Faces of Fear have some more fun with him. Back over to the Nasties, they concentrate on Barbarian some more. Eventually, Knobbs and Meng decide to stop fighting each other and they tag in both Hall and Nash. They think they are brilliant for making these two fight, but all they have to do is pin each other to regain the tag belts, says Tony. They hype the crowd up into a frenzy making them think they’re going to really fight, but then Nash lays down for Hall and they get a two count off that. Does that remind anybody of a certain Monday night in January of 1999? Just saying. The match breaks down with the Faces of Fear heading to the floor to beat up Sags. Meanwhile, Hall gets Jimmy’s megaphone and blasts Knobbs in the back of the head so Nash can give him the JACKKNIFE POWERBOMB for the 1-2-3. (16:11) I don’t normally like tag team triangle matches because they’re usually just a huge mess, but this felt like a good fight. The Nasties and the Faces of Fear are known for being tough dudes, but the Outsiders proved to be the smartest. In this case, being the smartest won them the match. **¼

60-Man Battle Royal – Winner Gets The Next WCW World Title Shot

The participants: Lex Luger, Eddie Guerrero, ‘Boston Bad Boy’ Tony Rumble, Diamond Dallas Page, Kaos, Rage, M. Wallstreet, Marcus Bagwell, Scotty Riggs, Sgt. Craig Pittman, Booker T, Stevie Ray, Big Bubba, Hugh Morrus, Konnan, Ron Studd, Lord Steven Regal, La Parka, Pez Whatley, Steve McMichael, Disco Inferno, Renegade, Joe Gomez, Meng, Barbarian, Bunkhouse Buck, Arn Anderson, Johnny Grunge, Ciclope, Galaxy, Syxx, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, The Giant, Scott Norton, Ultimo Dragon, Jimmy Graffiti, Mike Enos, Rey Mysterio Jr., Roadblock, Ice Train, Jack Boot, Jim Duggan, Chris Benoit, Juventud Guerrera, Jacques Rougeau, Carl Oulette, Prince Iaukea, Dean Malenko, Jeff Jarrett, Bobby Eaton, Jim Powers, Squire David Taylor, Chris Jericho, Alex Wright, Mark Starr, Mr. JL, Villano IV, Rick Steiner, and Kevin Sullivan. Our commentators for ring one – Mike Tenay and Dusty Rhodes; ring two – Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan; ring three – Lee Marshall and Larry Zbyszko.

A black-eyed and bruised Benoit meets Sullivan in the aisleway as he comes to the ring. They had a rematch from the Great American Bash in Baltimore the night before. A Horsemen/Dungeon battle ensues on the floor. Benoit and Sullivan fight into the crowd. Bubba tries to help out, but he gets beaten down the steps. Hard to tell if any eliminations are happening even with the three-way split screen because the commentators are all talking about the Horsemen/Dungeon fight. Somehow Lee Marshall gets swept up into the brawl. HA. Apparently everybody involved in the fight is disqualified from the battle royal. The jobbers and the luchadores slowly get weeded out. That excludes Rey Mysterio Jr. The new World order people are just standing around picking their shots. Giant gets into it with Roadblock and clotheslines him out. In one ring, everybody clotheslines Ron Studd in the corner. Once he’s down, they all dog pile on top of him for some reason. While the Amazing French Canadians have their problems with Duggan after they eliminated, Eddie Guerrero pescados out on top of Regal. Off-camera, it looks like Bagwell eliminated Riggs to further their problems with Wallstreet coming up behind Bagwell to send him to the showers. It’ll all become clear tomorrow on Nitro. In another ring, the nWo pretty much stand back and watch while Rey and Dragon make a little match. I thought Eddie was eliminated when he launched himself out on Regal, but he’s still at ringside beating up DDP. Eventually, everybody congregates into the same ring. Jack Boot, better known as Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker, gets tossed out. I know everybody was DYING to know what happened to him. Luger tries to punch away on the Giant, but he can’t stay there forever with the nWo standing in his way protecting their own. Luger does manage to toss out a different giant in Ron Studd though. Now the midcarders like Rick Steiner and Chris Jericho get sent out. How is Regal still in the match? Finally when there’s nine people left, WCW stops fighting each other momentarily. Luger and Jarrett go after Hall and Nash while Regal, Mysterio, DDP, and Eddie continue beating on one another. I’ve seen everybody left from WCW on the floor at some point during this match. Regal backdrops Eddie out for a crazy bump. Rey charges Giant and gets hoisted up with ONE HAND. He pitches Rey on top of Eddie. That’s just ridiculous. Hall goes to give Jarrett the OUTSIDERS EDGE when Regal makes the save! Nevertheless, Nash clotheslines Jarrett out. DDP charges Regal and misses to crash and burn on the floor. Now that Regal is on fire, Nash and Giant swarms the guy and dumps him out.

We’re down to Syxx, Nash, Hall, and the Giant left to take on Luger. The crowd gets to their feet. Luger goes on the move and starts taking everybody down with clotheslines. All except the Giant. He whips Luger across and misses an avalanche to land himself up on the top turnbuckle. Lex gets Giant up on his shoulders to get rid of him, but Syxx kicks Luger in the gut. Hall kicks Luger for the OUTSIDERS EDGE, but Luger backdrops him out to the floor. Lex presses Syxx and throws him out onto Hall! Luger ducks a clothesline from Nash and then nails him coming back around with a running elbow! With Nash staggered, Luger lifts him up in the TORTURE RACK! As he moves over to the ropes to dump him out, Giant comes over and shoves them both out to win the match. (28:23) This actually turns out for the best because it creates an opportunity to weaken the nWo just a little bit. They were getting a tad too strong. Since Giant is part of the new World order and Hogan’s the champ, to ask for the guaranteed title shot for winning World War 3 would mean absolute treason. And boy, this should get a little interesting in the weeks to come.

Final Thoughts: What a fun PPV. Apart from who won at least from a booking standpoint, I’m not a big fan of the main event. It’s usually just a nasty cluster of a match, but the hot ending was just spectacular. Most people hate the undercard on this show aside from the cruiserweight stuff. I didn’t mind it and found those matches to be enjoyable. World War 3 ‘96 will get an easy thumbs up from me. November 1996 was just a great month for PPVs. For an interesting time in WCW, go and check this out however you can.

You had to be there, that’s the general feeling after watching the film marking 10 years of the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival. Either because the performances were so good that film could never fully capture the moment, such as Grinderman’s rampant 2007 set, or because eventually indifference settles in towards clips of strangers being drunk, performing covers of ‘Maps’ and making out during Seasick Steve and The Boredoms. Those are their festival stories, nobody else’s, and it’s not much different from being shown other people’s holiday photos.

This film, though, would be nothing without the fans – a collaborative effort, film by fans, artists and filmmakers has been cut together by director Jonathan Caouette, most thrillingly at the start of the film when various footage of two different performances of ‘Atlas’ by Battles build to a rowdy climax. Most of the clips are from 2004 onwards, since when the availability of relatively cheap cameras and phones and YouTube has made everyone a potential documentary maker.

ATP’s back story is covered briefly in a sequence where founder Barry Hogan watches himself being interviewed on The Culture Show. There are unanswered questions, such as how it stays sponsorship-free or how curators are chosen, but mini-manifestos from Jerry Garcia, Thurston Moore, Patti Smith and Iggy Pop certainly explain at least part of what ATP stands for – reclaiming rock & roll from big business and industry. It’s worth considering during the clips of chalets bustling with ad hoc ‘fan bands’, an idea that has since been co-opted for multinational brands’ for ad campaigns.

The crew at Robots and Dinosaurs prototyped a high voltage power supply for a geiger counter tube using the Bus Pirate pulse-width modulator. They were able to step up 5volts to 800volts+ with a simple boost converter circuit on a bread board.

We always like to see new ways to use the Bus Pirate. Thanks for the tip!

by Tamoha Siddique

I welcome you to my mind.

I have tightly shut both doors leading to it, locking each door thrice. No one can find us here, so you may relax. Let me show you around…

As you can see, there is nothing much here—just a dimly lit space. No high voltage stadium lights as you might have found in Einstein’s mind—just a few flickers of light here and there. The walls used to be painted bright red, but turned grey gradually. The large bed you see over there—that’s where I spend most of my time. It’s very messy and strewn over with dreams. Sometimes the dreams take so much space I have to sleep on the floor…

You hear that voice? It’s coming from that tape recorder over there. It never stops. The voice keeps talking, sometimes there are more than one. They drive me crazy…

This, here, is the largest bookshelf in the world, but as you can see, there are no books in it. I plan to fill it up with hard bounds from all over the world. That rack over there in the corner is full of DVDs. Some of the best horror flicks ever. I am the lead actress in all of them…

Do you see that empty photoframe? It contains the picture of the person I love…

Look at this! This is my most favourite doll from my childhood. But someone stole her clothes and painted her face black…

Hey! Watch out! You almost stepped on this caterpillar on the floor. It’s been here for as long as I can remember. I’m hoping it would turn into a butterfly and fly away, but it’s taking too long…

I don’t know if you can see it from here, but there is a tunnel at that dark corner. The tunnel seems to be very deep, but I am too scared to explore it, so I just leave it alone…

And here is the grandest mirror of all times, but it doesn’t work properly. When I stand before it, I only see the background behind me, but no me! It’s as if I am invisible, or as if I don’t exist…

Knock! Knock!

Oh! No! They found us! We have to get out of here right now! I hope you will come see me here some other time! Bye!

WCW Monday Nitro
November 18, 1996
Florence, SC
Civic Center

The current WCW champs were as follows:
WCW World Champion: Hollywood Hogan (8/10/1996)
WCW U.S. Champion: Ric Flair (7/7/1996)
WCW World Tag Team Champions: The Outsiders (10/27/1996)
WCW World Television Champion: Lord Steven Regal (8/20/1996)
WCW World Cruiserweight Champion: Dean Malenko (10/27/1996)

HOUR NUMBER ONE! Your hosts are Tony Schiavone & Larry Zbyszko.

Before there’s even an intro, we see the aftermath of an Outsiders beatdown with chairs in-hand as they interrupted a Nasties vs. High Voltage vs. Ciclope/Galaxy triangle match that occurred prior to the broadcast. They head over to Tony and Larry Z’s ringside announce table to tell them and everybody watching that the new World order can make you laugh (as they did for Tony Schiavone last week) and they can also be extremely deadly. Nash flicking Tony on the head is pretty hilarious though. WHO’S LAUGHING NOW, FAT BOY? After they leave, Meng and Barbarian are waiting to attack them backstage as they fight out of the building!

After a short break, Larry Z tries to calm Tony down and reminds him that they didn’t hurt him or anything, but he’s got five kids (wow!) and a wife. He doesn’t need to put up with this kind of abuse, so he leaves the broadcast for the rest of the show.

Juventud Guerrera vs. La Parka

Here is La Parka’s WCW debut. Mike Tenay comes out and joins Larry Z for the rest of the first hour. They do some kip-ups from chops to start. La Parka dumps out Juvi for a suicide dive. Back in, Juvi pushes La Parka off the top turnbuckle onto the top rope and then takes him down onto the mat with a springboard headscissors! Cover, 1-2-NO! Quebrada gets another two. Juvi sets up for another springboard, but La Parka dropkicks him in mid-air. Back to the floor, La Parka delivers the Eddie Guerrero stage dive. Back inside, La Parka delivers a powerbomb for two. Juvi escapes a surfboard and drills La Parka with a missile dropkick for two. La Parka misses a corner charge and takes a whole BUNCH of turnbuckle smashes. Another springboard headscissors out of the corner gets two for Juvi. Ugh, Guerrera delivers one ugly looking spinning hurracanrana for two. La Parka misses something off the top and takes a Tornado DDT for two. However, La Parka blocks the Dragonsteiner and nails Juvi with a CORKSCREW SENTON for the 1-2-3. (9:22) Great TV debut for La Parka with loads of neat nearfalls on him, but Juvi just didn’t have the weight advantage over the big luchadore. ***¼

Video package shown to hype Ultimo Dragon as he looks to defend his newly-won J-Crown (short-lived unification of EIGHT lightweight championships from promotions around the world) against Rey Mysterio Jr at World War 3. We see some clips of him vs. the Great Sasuke in the J-Crown tournament final back on August 5.

WCW World Cruiserweight Champion Dean Malenko vs. J-Crown Champion Ultimo Dragon (w/Sonny Oono)

OH SNAP. This should be good. Some nice mat stuff to start. Dragon hits the handspring back elbow, but Malenko immediately whips Dragon across for the corner clothesline. Some awesome counters lead to a nearfall sequence which leads to a Tiger Suplex from Dragon for two. They go to the floor for some guardrail action. Back in, Dragon elbows out of a back superplex, but misses the moonsault. Sonny Oono hops up on the apron once Malenko hooks on the TEXAS CLOVERLEAF. Malenko lets go of Dragon and flips Oono into the ring. Dragon goes to save his manager and takes a backdrop over the top to the floor. Oops, DQ! (4:02) Oh WCW and your inconsistencies over what is a toss over the top rope and what isn’t. Good for what it was and it’s got me looking forward to their match at Starrcade that nobody knows about yet. **½

WCW Saturday Night! Watch it IF YOU WEEL! 6:05PM eastern! TBS! The Faces of Fear takes on Ciclope & Galaxy! TV Champ Lord Steven Regal defends his belt against Dean Malenko! Both the Taskmaster and Chris Jericho will be in action! Arn Anderson faces Bunkhouse Buck! Jeff Jarrett battles Mike Enos! Also, a match from the new World order! Don’t miss out! It’s the MUTHASHIP! PAY WINDAHS, CLUBBERIN, AND PLUNDAH, BABY!

Recap to last week where Sherri took a swing at her former lover Col. Robert Parker.

Amazing French Canadians (w/Col. Robert Parker) vs. The American Males

Parker debuts his new French Foreign Legion look. The American Males clean house to start so they can chant “USA” together. Back in, Jacques shows off a little bit. Riggs and Bagwell collide to cause a little problem. Oulette nails Riggs from the apron into a jumping back elbow from Jacques. In comes Oulette, as Jacques slams him on top of Riggs. Maybe they aren’t as good a gimmick as the Quebecers, but they’re still fun to watch. I’m a fan. Double hotshot to Riggs, but heel miscommunication ensues. HOT TAG TO BAGWELL! He completely owns the AFC with backdrops and dropkicks! DOUBLE NOGGIN KNOCKER! Jacques backflips to avoid another backdrop, but then Riggs knees Jacques into Bagwell and their heads collide. While the ref tries to get Riggs out of the ring, Oulette puts Jacques on top of Bagwell for the 1-2-3. (5:25) Fun little formula match to continue the problems between the American Males. *½

For all you total nerds out there who are always typing away at your computers and using that new fad called the world wide web that nobody uses except complete geeks who live in their parents basement and never even talked to a girl before, check out wcwwrestling.com! It’s cool if you’re a NERD!

Lex Luger vs. Hugh Morrus

Another week, another TORTURE RACK! (4:22) Luger is on a roll! Surely he’s the guy who will win the 60-man battle royal at World War 3! After the match, Sting quietly interrupts Luger’s post-match interview with Gene Okerlund. He points his baseball bat at Luger and then shoves him back into the corner with it. What’s Sting going to do? He turns the bat around, gives it to Luger, and leaves through the crowd. Luger has nothing to say about what just happened. *

HOUR NUMBER TWO! Your hosts are Eric Bischoff, Bobby Heenan, and Mike Tenay.

Flashback to last week’s Saturday Night: Tony Schiavone conducts a meeting between Nick Patrick, his lawyer, Teddy Long, and Chris Jericho. Teddy says something about Jericho being able to beat Nick Patrick with one arm tied behind his back any day of the week. The lawyer guy takes him up on that and we’ve got another match signed for World War 3!

Chris Jericho vs. Johnny Grunge

Seems like an odd match. Nick Patrick comes out to get a closer look at the match. Grunge ends the feeling out process with a back suplex. Jericho lands on his feet after Grunge moves away from a moonsault press, but gets nailed with a clothesline. We go to the floor as Jericho nails Grunge with a springboard dropkick off the apron. Grunge gets desperate and grabs a chair. He hotshots Jericho and sits him down in a chair for a running clothesline. Now Grunge slides in a table and sets Jericho up on it. Is he going to splash himself and the chair on top of Jericho? Nope. Jericho moves and hits a missile dropkick for the 1-2-3. (5:22) How is bringing a table and a chair in the ring not a DQ? Anyways, decent enough for somebody like Johnny Grunge who isn’t known to be a singles worker. ¾*

Hollywood Hogan, Ted DiBiase, Vincent, and Elizabeth all come over to take control of the announce table. Heenan gets the heck out of Dodge. Hogan gets on the mic and demands Bischoff to tell the world that he’s the bigger icon of wrestling than Piper, that he’s scared to death of Hogan, and that he’s a hundred times richer than Roddy Piper. Of course Bischoff says he disagrees but he’ll say whatever Hogan wants. That’s all Hogan wanted to hear.

Over to Gene Okerlund, he’s standing by with Diamond Dallas Page. He says he still refuses to be the eighth pick for the new World order. Hall, Nash, Giant, and Syxx stop by to tell DDP that he doesn’t get it. You don’t get it? He doesn’t get it.

Bobby Heenan and Mike Tenay return to the announce position.

Jeff Jarrett vs. Bobby Eaton

Extremely short. Jarrett struts and we go to the floor for some guardrail stuff. Back in, Jarrett hits the Bossman straddle and gives Eaton a suplex for the FIGURE-FOUR. That gets the win. (2:19) Here comes Ric Flair. Of course he’s got his arm in a sling. Flair says that no matter what Benoit and Mongo may say, Flair gives Jarrett his full endorsement as a member of the Four Horsemen while he’s away. We see Sting watching on from the rafters. WOO! ½*

Big Bubba (w/Jimmy Hart) vs. Jim Powers

During the match, Bischoff explains how he’s still unable to get Roddy Piper to sign for a match against Hogan. Bubba controls much of the match until Powers comes back like a good ’80s babyface. Turnbuckle smashes and the Knee Lift connects, but then he runs into a BUBBA SLAM for the 1-2-3. (3:54) Filler. ½*

Chris Benoit (w/Woman) vs. Eddie Guerrero

This is a return match from the night after Halloween Havoc when both men were so banged up and couldn’t compete at the usual fast-paced high-impact level. Guerrero slows Benoit down early with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Eddie lands on his feet out of a monkey flip, but charges into the CRIPPLER CROSSFACE! Luckily Eddie makes the ropes. Eddie comes back with a Hilo for two. Benoit comes back with a series of suplexes in order to keep Guerrero on the mat. He’s stretching Eddie like he’s back in Stu’s Dungeon! Commercial break. We return to see Eddie taking Benoit down with a headscissors. Benoit hangs Guerrero out to dry and gets a superplex. Delayed cover gets two. Eddie takes Benoit to the floor and Woman gets in the way to temporarily help her man. Back inside, Guerrero delivers a back suplex to set up for the FROG SPLASH, but Eddie rolls through when Benoit moves. Eddie goes for a hurracanrana, but Benoit rolls through that into a sunset flip for the 1-2-3! (9:23 shown) Nice finish. One of the best Nitro matches we’ve seen in MONTHS. ***½

Eric Bischoff is in the ring to tell the crowd that Roddy Piper still has not signed a contract to face Hollywood Hogan, but he’s going to do everything he can to make this- IS THAT BAGPIPES I HEAR? The crowd goes insane as Roddy Piper walks out the tunnel. Bischoff doesn’t look too happy to see him and Piper has got his FIGHTIN’ EYES going. He’s here to tell some truth because he’s never heard more lies in his life than when he was telling them. Piper calls Bischoff a liar and the crowd seems confused, but Bischoff looks 1000% guilty. Did you have a nice flight to Portland? Is the path to his ranch straight or crooked? He grabs Bischoff and calls him a “little piece of poop” as the Giant and the rest of the new World order grab Piper (except for Hogan who comes out when Piper has been stopped). Hogan embraces Bischoff and reminds everybody that Eric runs WCW and now he works for the nWo! Hogan continues to denigrate Piper by calling him a coward and how he was nobody before he fought Hogan. A bunch of policemen come down and have to restrain Piper while the nWo pose and watch Piper while they head to the back. Before we go, Piper says he’ll be at World War 3 with the contract for his match with Hogan in his teeth! No surrender! No retreat! Kiss his butt, Hogan.

AND WE OUT! Finally, a great episode of Nitro.

World War 3 goes down on November 24. Here’s the card as it looks right now.

MAIN EVENT: 60-Man Battle Royal – (Winner gets the next WCW World Title shot)
WCW World Tag Team Champions The Outsiders vs. The Nasty Boys vs. The Faces of Fear
The Giant vs. Jeff Jarrett
WCW Cruiserweight Champion Dean Malenko vs. Psychosis
Harlem Heat vs. The Amazing French Canadians – (If the Heat win, Sherri gets five minutes with Parker)
Chris Jericho vs. Nick Patrick (Jericho has to wrestle with one hand tied behind his back)
J-Crown Champion Ultimo Dragon vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.

This is our first look at Regal as the TV champ since he regained it back in August. And speaking of first looks, we spot the Crow Sting for the first time sitting up in the rafters. Last time we saw him in the black and white face paint confronting the nWo, he was speaking. Now he just looks like a sad mime wearing a trench coat. So much is happening outside of this match, it’s as if the match is an afterthought. We see some nWo picket signs go across where the hard camera points. Syxx shows up in the crowd and welcomes everybody to nWo Nitro. So that he’s not the only one without a belt, he wants the cruiserweight title. Uhh, wrong match pal. Anyways, Juvi ranas out of a butterfly powerbomb, but misses the 450 SPLASH. How about a REGAL STRETCH? Yeah, you will take the Regal Stretch. And with that, Juvi gives it up. (3:20) When everybody starts paying attention to Sting, he leaves. It appears Tony was supposed to interview Regal, but he just walks off to the back instead. Whoops. It’s LIVE TV, folks! ½*

Stills are shown of the Luger-Anderson match from Halloween Havoc.

Diamond Dallas Page vs. Mike Enos

They brawl to the floor and send one another into the guardrail. Back inside, Page hits the Sitout Powerbomb for two. As DDP calls for the Diamond Cutter after a flying clothesline, Hall and Nash show up in the crowd acknowledging him. DIAMOND CUTTER? Nope, Enos shoves him off into the corner and takes him over with an overhead suplex for two. Enos hits a reverse neckbreaker and then dares the Outsiders to come on down for a FIGHT. As Enos goes for a running powerslam out of the corner, Page hooks his feet on the top rope and powers out into a DIAMOND CUTTER. Good night. (4:37) Uh oh, the Outsiders seem interested in recruiting the man with the deadliest finisher around. Will DDP join the new World order?!

We see stills from Malenko-Mysterio from last night.

WCW World Cruiserweight Champion Dean Malenko vs. Jim Powers (w/Teddy Long)

Really? Jim Powers is a cruiserweight? Power forward AC Green for the Phoenix Suns is in attendance. He was here last time Nitro was in Phoenix. This time he’s wearing an nWo shirt! Tony and Larry Z are offended. While Powers is slamming Malenko around, Psychosis steps out the tunnel to get a closer look at Malenko. Nobody knows this yet, but Malenko-Psychosis is set for World War 3. Powers escapes a chinlock and hits an atomic drop. Turnbuckle smashes abound! Running knee lift sets up a powerslam. He’s got the cover, but ref Nick Patrick is talking to Teddy Long when he’s not even on the apron. WHAT. When Powers goes over to grab Patrick, Malenko gets him with a rolling clutch pin for the 1-2-3. (5:04) Another week, another argument between Long and Patrick. HOLLLLA HOLLA HOLLA. *

WCW Saturday Night! Watch it IF YOU WEEL! 6:05PM eastern! TBS! This week, the Rock N Roll Express against the Faces of Fear! Also, Chris Jericho meets Chris Benoit! Jimmy Graffiti, Big Bubba, and Kevin Sullivan will all be on the show as well! Don’t miss out! It’s the MUTHASHIP! PAY WINDAHS, CLUBBERIN, AND PLUNDAH, BABY!

Stills of the Faces of Fear-Horsemen match are shown.

Jeff Jarrett vs. Ricky Morton

What a southern-fried chicken match this is. At least in the beginning, it goes like this: Jarrett move, strut. Jarrett move, strut. Jarrett move, strut. Finally, Morton hits a slowww crossbody out of the corner and goes after the arm for a while. Jarrett escapes an armbar with a hotshot and hits the Bossman straddle. He nails Morton with a flying bodypress, but Morton rolls through for 1-2-NO! Just as he gains the advantage, Morton telegraphs a backdrop and takes a swinging neckbreaker. Morton gets one hope spot with the Jack Brisco rollup, but then Jarrett catches him with a shinbreaker and finishes him off with the FIGURE-FOUR. (4:34) Here comes the Giant out of the stands with the US belt draped over his shoulder. He thinks Jarrett and the Horsemen are a bunch of rats. They’re all scared of him, too!

Jarrett responds with a message to WCW to unite to take out the new World order.

HOUR NUMBER TWO! Your hosts are Eric Bischoff, Bobby Heenan, and Mike Tenay.

The Amazing French Canadians vs. High Voltage

Either High Voltage hates Canadians or they can’t stand hearing a grown man sing a song, but they interrupt the Canadian national anthem and clean house on the AFC. Rougeau trips up Kaos from the floor to take over. Oulette bearhugs Kaos while Rougeau comes off the top for a seated senton on him! The AFC look for the QUEBECER CRASH when the Nasty Boys attack High Voltage while the AFC head to the back. No contest? (3:43) They just wanted some interview time. They’re pissed about Hogan and the nWo. Whether WCW wants them around or not, they are NASTY. Long story short, Hall and Nash – let’s get ready to rumble. ¾*

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Jimmy Graffiti

Rey stands on the middle rope so he could see the crowd over the top rope (HA!) and Graffiti brings him down with an electric chair drop. Sitout Doctorbomb gets two. Mysterio comes back with a monkey flip and dropkicks Graffiti when he tries a crossbody out of the corner. Split-legged moonsault gets two. To the floor, Graffiti reverses a whip into the guardrail and then wipes out Mysterio with a CANNONBALLLLLL. Back in, Mysterio flips all around Graffiti and then mule kicks him to set up the SPRINGBOARD HURRACANRANA for the win. (3:24) Action-packed, but not as long as Graffiti’s match with Malenko to really get something going. *½

On the Road with Lee Marshal: He’s in Grand Rapids Michigan pumping people up for next week’s Nitro. The man can’t talk long – he’s at a Monday Nitro Halloween party (really?) and somebody just showed up in a weasel suit.

Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Benoit (w/Woman)

Eddie has a broken rib, Benoit has a taped-up shoulder. This is not your typical fast-paced Benoit/Guerrero classic we’re used to see, but it is a lesson in *selling* an injury. That is if they’re really selling and not actually in excruciating mind-numbing pain which knowing their history, it could actually be excruciating mind-numbing pain. Steve McMichael and Debra head down to make sure everything goes smooth. In other words, Eddie’s taking the briefcase in the ribs. And he does. Benoit covers for the 1-2-3. (8:23) Again, great lesson in selling if nothing else. **¼

Tony Schiavone interviews ref Nick Patrick and his attorney. He’s like Clarence Mason, but white and has some Harvard-like hair. While the attorney fellow puts Patrick over for doing his job at the best of his ability, Chris Jericho attacked him last night at the PPV and injured him. That brings out Chris Jericho to lay down the law. Jericho tells Patrick that there’s nothing wrong with his neck and that he’s a paid employee of the new World order. The attorney fellow questions Jericho on the subject of anger problems and not being able to get along with others. Jericho ignores him as Teddy Long (who apparently is “handling” Jericho now) comes out to yell at the attorney. He calls him a “scam artist” and says if he didn’t have a degree, he’d be holding a squeegee and washing windows. Patrick’s attorney accuses Long of ’slander’ and they all continue to argue until we go to commercial break. Alright! I love it when segments are supposed to answer questions and absolutely nothing is settled!

Lex Luger vs. Booker T (w/Sister Sherri)

Luger cleans house to start. Back in, Booker gets in some offense, but gets distracted by AC Green and runs into a boot in the corner. Booker goes low and hits a Side Slam, but misses a flying fist drop. Commercial time! AND WE’RE BACK! Luger turns Booker inside out with a clothesline, but Lex telegraphs a backdrop and receives the SCISSORS KICK! Cover, 1-2-NO! Booker misses the HARLEM HANGOVER and as Luger sets up for the TORTURE RACK, he somehow spots Sting who is standing in the gateway over in the crowd. Gate 105, 106. Lex drops Booker and jumps the rail to go after him. Once he’s halfway to him, Sting leaves and Booker wins via countout. (9:10 shown) As much as Booker carries Harlem Heat, somehow he’s still not ready to go alone. *½

Due to time constraints, they replay only a short amount of the Piper-Hogan confrontation. Probably the best parts though. Here comes Hollywood Hogan, Ted DiBiase, Vincent, and the Giant to respond to Piper’s comments without Piper here to interrupt him. Hogan demands to have that “Hollywood” spotlight put on him for this promo. He tells Randy Savage not to worry about Elizabeth because he’s going to take real good care of her. *wink wink* As for Roddy Piper, he says he think he saw some fear in his eyes last night. He goes on to congratulate the Outsiders for winning the tag team belts because now that they have the world title, the US title, and the tag titles – that pretty much means they have accomplished their hostile takeover. Now it’s time to pose for the Hogan fans before he goes out to party with the rest of the nWo, BROTHER.

And we out.

Flock of Butterflies has just published their third post in a series about the ArduiNIX, an Arduino shield that drives Nixie tubes. We’ve featured Nixie tube projects such as a single tube clock, free-formed Nixie circuits, and tubes in a bottle. Now the hurdle of handling high voltage tubes while protecting low voltage logic circuitry has been taken care of for you. The shield can be purchased as a kit but the Eagle CAD files are also available, allowing you to etch your own circuit board.

Although this is meant for the Arduino there is nothing to keep you from using it as a driver with any microcontroller. The board listens for 5V logic levels to switch the multiplexed display of up to eight tubes. Get your hands on some Nixies and give this a try yourself.

As a daughter of an electrical engineer, I have always been familiar with the circuit boards, Volt O

As a daughter of an electrical engineer, I have always been familiar with the circuit boards, Volt Ohm meter or even the smell when my father soldered the lead with some wire when I was young (little had I known that, the fume of the burning lead was so bad for your lung). Anyway, I am not gonna talk about the health consciousness today, rather I would like to talk about this crazy cool mad scientist named Nikola Tesla.

My dad's Volt Ohm meter (VOM) and Solder - They are probably as old as me

My dad's Printed Circuit board

I was impressed with Tesla’s weird personality and his dedication to the modern electrical engineering on the History Channel that I recently watched. Being the rival of Thomas Edison, this Serbian inventor won the “War of Currents” in the late 1880s, between Edison’s Direct Current (DC) and Tesla’s Alternating Current (AC). He was the potential laureate for noble prize, and so was Edison and both refused to ever accept the award if the other received it first, and that both rejected any possibility of sharing it.

Nikola Tesla

At the 1893 World’s Fair, the World’s Colombian Exposition in Chicago, an international exposition was held which for the first time devoted a building to electrical exhibits. It was a historic event as Tesla and Westinghouse introduced visitors to AC power by using it to illuminate the Exposition. On display were Tesla’s fluorescent lamps and single node bulbs.

World's Colombian Exposition

Similar to those of geniuses, he had peculiar personality and phobias such as obsessive compulsive disorder. He was scared of women with earrings, especially pearl earrings. He was in love with pigeons and number 33. Oh well..nobody’s perfect.

Now we know why AC comes before DC. : )

October 2009 marks the 80th anniversary of the Van de Graaff electrostatic generator. While this machine is widely recognized for its loud sparks and hair-lifting demonstrations, more importantly it represents a significant benchmark in the production of static electricity at high voltages.

Dr. Robert J. Van de Graaff developed the electrostatic generator in 1929 while he was a research fellow at Princeton University. He moved to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where, between the years of 1931 and 1933, he crafted a larger generator that produced significantly higher voltages. While at MIT, he developed the world’s largest Van de Graaff generator which is currently displayed at the Boston Museum of Science.

The Van de Graaff generator is sometimes mistaken for the Tesla coil because of similarities in appearance. However, Nikola Tesla’s invention—which predates the Van de Graaff generator by nearly 40 years—has a completely different function. The Van de Graaff generator creates static electricity, while the Tesla coil creates high-voltage current electricity that is transferrable through the air into other objects (e.g. a light bulb). Nevertheless, Tesla recognized the generator’s potential in the 1934 article titled “Possibilities of Electrostatic Generators,” when he referred to the Van de Graaff generator as a “remarkable device,” agreeing with the assertion “with which wonders will be achieved.” †

Tesla’s statement would prove to be correct. Because of its use of a power supply to a produce continuous static electricity, the Van de Graaff generator quickly eclipsed previous electrostatic models.

Basic principles of the Van de Graaff generator

They come in many sizes, but each Van de Graaff generator is comprised of three central components: the terminal, a belt and pulley system, and a motor. The terminal is the insulated hollow metal sphere elevated at the highest point of the machine where the current is expelled.

The belt and pulley system features an insulating belt which transfers charges to the terminal. The belt creates static through friction with a metal electrode, also known as a needle or comb. There are two pulleys—each with a corresponding electrode—in place: one at the bottom of the machine, connected to the motor, and another positioned within the base of the terminal. One side of the belt carries a positive charge, while the opposite carries a negative charge. Both pulleys are contained in a hollow cylinder that is connected to the sphere.

Lastly, at the base, a switch-operated motor powers the generator.

The mother of all science fair projects

Constructing your own Van de Graaff can be a fairly straightforward process. Moreover, it is a safe, cheap, and fun way to demonstrate the properties of static electricity. To commemorate the Van de Graaff generator’s 80th birthday—and to help you stay on the cutting edge of the 20th century—here are few pointers to consider when building your generator:

The most crucial part of the generator is the terminal. As such, to achieve the greatest charge, you should only use a round hollow sphere made of stainless-steel or aluminum. To test the effectiveness of the generator, you can place a negatively charged metal object close to sphere to make a spark. Even more illustrative, place your hands on the sphere and in an instant the hairs on your head will stand up.

The belt is also very important. To create the most static, use a belt made of vinyl or silk. Be sure that the belt is bound tightly to the pulleys so it is unable to move laterally. (Also, bear in mind, the belt and terminal are the most difficult pieces to replace.)

To ensure your machine stays intact, use a strong adhesive to firmly attach the metal sphere to cylinder—PVC piping is highly recommended—surrounding the belt.

The electrodes are also pivotal in the performance of your generator. For both pulleys, position the ends of electrodes close to the belt without touching it.

Lastly, make sure your surrounding conditions are not damp or humid. The generator may not work in such conditions.

If you’ve been following me on twitter, you know I received a -30kV / 10mA Glassman a few days ago. Now it’s online and it kicks ass. Current limiting, remote controllable… it’s the second unit from the top:

Here is an air plasma it produced:

With current limiting and good air metering, we can get a stable plasma. I notice you get a sense for the plasma just by _listening_ to the glassman. When the plasma is unstable the glassman softly clicks along with the plasma burst.

To get full manual control, you wire the jumpers like this:

I’ve already had some success remote controlling the Glassman. Looks like I’ll be using digital potentiometers again.

Here is a un-enhanced photo of the plasma… it’s much brighter:

Also worth a mention – the same plasma can appear either blue or purple depending on ambient lighting and perhaps other factors. So we can’t trust the color in the photo without further controls:

WCW Monday Nitro
October 7, 1996
Savannah, GA
Civic Center

The current WCW champs were as follows:
WCW World Champion: Hollywood Hogan (8/10/1996)
WCW U.S. Champion: Ric Flair (7/7/1996)
WCW World Tag Team Champions: Harlem Heat (10/5/1996)
WCW World Television Champion: Lord Steven Regal (8/20/1996)
WCW World Cruiserweight Champion: Rey Mysterio (7/8/1996)

HOUR NUMBER ONE! Your hosts are Tony Schiavone & Larry Zbyszko.

Flashback to last week: Randy Savage heads to the nWo’s hotel suite and finds Elizabeth there with a contract in her hand. Needless to say, he goes ballistic.

They also show the finish of the Harlem Heat/Public Enemy title match from Saturday Night. You can check that match out in last week’s Nitro recap.

WCW World Tag Team Champions Harlem Heat (w/Sister Sherri & Col. Robert Parker) vs. Public Enemy

The Heat don’t get an entrance? What’s that about. Both teams trade control of the CLUBBERIN until Sherri gets involved. Rocco grabs her and looks to teach her a lesson, but Booker makes the save as we go to commercial. When we return, we don’t go straight to the ring – we look backstage to see Elizabeth unsuccessfully looking for Randy Savage in his locker room. Back to the match, the Heat are still working over Rocco Rock. They do a false tag spot when Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Ted DiBiase, and Vincent show up in the crowd to taunt Harlem Heat. They disappear as Grunge gets the lukewarm tag. PE hits Heat with the DOUBLE NOGGIN KNOCKER-double bulldog spot. Grunge gets rid of Stevie Ray and slams Booker as Rocco goes up top. Sherri hops up on the apron to distract ref Nick Patrick while Col. Parker shakes the ropes to make Rocco lose his balance and send him falling through the very table at ringside he set up! OH THE IRONY! Grunge grabs Parker, which allows Stevie Ray to clip him in the bad knee. He’s still not done – Stevie Ray WHACKS the knee with a chair and then Booker hits Grunge with the knee drops the chair ON the knee. Out goes the chair, Booker covers for the 1-2-3. (10:14) That’s quite an overbooked finish. Why all that just to beat up Johnny Grunge? *½

In the back, a limo pulls up…and out of the limo comes JEFF JARRETT!

Two days ago on Saturday Night, Nick Patrick says he’s fining Randy Savage $1 million for his completely unmitigated attack that leaves him having to work injured. Really? A MILLION BUCKS?

Diamond Dallas Page vs. Jim Powers (w/Teddy Long)

Once the feeling-out stuff is done, DDP hits the DIAMOND CUTTER out of a full nelson. (2:35) The man can hit it from virtually ANYWHERE. ¾*

Mike Tenay brings out Randy Savage, who then brings out the driver for the Slim Jim car in the Busch series to brag about finishing and placing at #10 in a race over the weekend while the nWo car did not even finish and ended their day early by slamming into the wall. Apparently this is some sort of victory for the Macho Man. Elizabeth confronts Randy, but he just walks off with the Slim Jim driver.

The Faces of Fear (w/Jimmy Hart) vs. High Voltage

While the Faces of Fear are murdering these two, Benoit, Mongo, and Debra watch on from the entrance way. They will be meeting the Faces of Fear at Halloween Havoc in some more Four Horsemen/Dungeon of Doom wars that we thought was over about a month ago. Evidently it’s not. Back in the ring, High Voltage screw up a double springboard spot on Meng. To be fair, it does seem quite complicated. Barbarian gets a tag and starts slamming Rage around. Now the Faces of Fear take turns dishing out powerbombs. It’s pretty brutal. Onto the finish, Meng catapults Rage into a KICK OF FEAR from Barbarian for the 1-2-3. (3:44) I am SUCH a Faces of Fear mark. *

WCW Saturday Night! Watch it IF YOU WEEL! 6:05PM eastern! TBS! Eddie Guerrero meets the Disco Inferno! Plus, WCW world tag team champs Harlem Heat battles Rough N Ready! You’ll also see Chris Jericho, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Lex Luger, and much more! Don’t miss out! It’s the MUTHASHIP! PAY WINDAHS, CLUBBERIN AND PLUNDAH, BABY!

Glacier vs. Mike Wenner

Glacier actually tries to wrestle this time and when he does, this match feels about twice as long and half as interesting. They’re still wrestling under the blue light. The highlight is a pescado from Glacier. Back in, he nails Wenner with a Reverse Roundhouse Kick for the win. (2:26) Is that his Cryonic Kick? I thought that was a superkick. Still nothing to care about with this Glacier character, unless you’re REALLY into Sub-Zero from MK. ½*

HOUR NUMBER TWO! Your hosts are Eric Bischoff, Bobby Heenan, and Mike Tenay.

Jeff Jarrett vs. Hugh Morrus

Since Jeff’s a former WWF’er and this was before he bounced back and forth between the two companies, Bischoff thinks he’s here to join up with the nWo right off the bat. Looking at him now with his long curly blonde hair and big smile – I can’t imagine how disappointed people would have been (specifically me!) if he had turned out to be the third guy back at Bash at the Beach. Now post-SummerSlam ‘98 Jeff Jarrett – that may have worked a little better. Jarrett struts around in between hiptosses and then gets nailed with a clothesline. Hugh Morrus gets serious! Jarrett comes back with an atomic drop and a clothesline before delivering the Bossman straddle. Odd swinging neckbreaker gets two. Morrus hits a powerslam and misses a guillotine legdrop (?), which makes him easy pickings for the FIGURE-FOUR. (4:07) Afterwards, Tony gets a word with Jeff Jarrett. Because he pulled in a black limo, IMMEDIATELY accusations are made that he’s part of the new World order. It couldn’t farther from the truth. Jarrett says he hates Hogan for saying he made wrestling and specifically Memphis wrestling wouldn’t have existed without him – as if he’s forgotten Jerry Jarrett gave Hogan his first big start. You know what Hulk, just like Sting said – you and the rest of the nWo can STICK it. *

Bischoff – “I’m feeling a little bit better about life right now.”

Arn Anderson (w/Woman) vs. Renegade

Since Arn is blaming Luger for being a wuss and losing at Fall Brawl in Wargames, he’s warming up with guys that Luger just wrestled like the Renegade here from this past Saturday Night so he’ll be ready to dish out some cold revenge at Halloween Havoc. Tenay just has to remind us all that Renegade beat Arn at the Great American Bash in 1995 for the TV title. I understand putting a guy over, but ouch. Early on, AA goes for a piledriver. Has Arn Anderson ever delivered a piledriver? Renegade backdrops out and Arn heads to the floor so he can make Renegade give chase and nail him when he heads back into the ring. Nice. AA takes over and starts working the arm like an Anderson should. Pump splash hits knees and Renegade begins his weak comeback. One too many Handspring Elbows in the corner gets his knocked in the back of the head. DDT! It’s over. (7:07) After the match, Arn sets Renegade up in the tree of woe and kicks away to bring Luger out of the back. All I have to say here is, at least Arn didn’t job. Stupid 1995. *

Lex Luger vs. Squire David Taylor (w/Jeeves)

Taylor gets a little rough with Jeeves on his way to the ring – even as far as to give him a swift European uppercut! What has happened to mother England? Very short match as Luger puts Taylor away with the TORTURE RACK. (2:35) Luger high-fives one too many fans as Arn Anderson blindsides him with a chairshot! He unloads a couple chairshots to the back before referees get rid of him. ½*

Chris Benoit (w/Steve McMichael & Debra) vs. Rick Steiner (w/Scott Steiner)

This is our first look at Scott since he’s been out due to a back/hip/arm injury. He’s just here to make sure nothing bad goes down. Benoit unloads on Rick early, but then leapfrogs into a powerslam. They trade blows with Steiner ending that with a belly-to-belly suplex for two. He follows up with a release German suplex as we go to a commercial. AND WE’RE BACK! These two are STILL trading hard blows. Scott grabs Nick Patrick from the floor and lets him know not to screw over the Steiners again. Snap Suplex from Benoit gets two. Benoit misses a corner charge, but let’s look backstage and watch a black nWo limo back up instead. Out comes Hollywood Hogan and the Giant from the limo. Hollywood’s got some business to take care of, brother. In the ring, Rick comes out of a chinlock and hits a Steinerline. Benoit CHOPS Steiner so hard, his headgear comes off! SWANDIVE HEADBUTT gets 1-2-NO! Benoit takes flight again, but falls right into a release overhead suplex! Awesome. DDT gets two. Rick heads up and delivers the STEINER BULLDOG for 1-2-NO! Debra gets up on the apron and distracts ref Nick Patrick while Mongo wants to give Benoit the briefcase. Scott won’t let that happen and when Mongo lifts the briefcase back over his head to nail Scott, Rick grabs the case and hits Mongo on the top of the head with it. Debra, you NEED to get down now! Rick waffles Benoit with the briefcase and slides it out of the ring right in front of Nick Patrick who counts the 1-2-3. (12:58) Hard hitting match and one of the best we’ve seen on Nitro in a while. ***

WCW U.S. Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair vs. Randy Savage

I didn’t think there would be a match with Flair’s injury. After Randy Savage makes his entrance, we cut backstage to see the Nasty Boys telling Hogan and DiBiase that they have their backs. Flair never shows and we see why as the new World order and beating the crap out of him. Vincent tries to get the camera out of here. He’s saying something, but it’s not English. Nash – “THUG LIFE!” The whole time this is happening, Elizabeth is standing in the background scared to death. Giant takes Flair’s U.S. belt and backs Liz towards the ring. What Giant doesn’t see is Randy Savage coming around the corner of the Nitro set with a steel chair to save his ex-wife. But what Savage doesn’t see is Hollywood Hogan coming up behind HIM with a shot to the back. Giant carries Savage to the ring over his back while Hogan drags Liz with him. Holy crap, Giant gets half way up the stairs, falls, and then drops Savage onto the steps all by accident. OUCH. Oh, now Giant’s mad. He just pitches Savage into the ring instead. STAIRS ARE DIFFICULT. Just shows how light those steps really are. Hogan doesn’t want a CHOKESLAM, he just wants to beat the crap out of Savage after he’s already got the crap beat out of him while Giant holds Liz and makes her watch. Once Hogan delivers a couple LEGDROPS, he makes a black spray paint outline around Savage’s body – as if a crime had just been committed.

Hall and Nash join the two men while Hogan yells at Liz saying that he owns her body, heart, soul, and mind. As usual for the nWo, plenty of trash into the ring as Hogan talks down to Savage. Now Hogan wants to destroy the broadcast set. Everybody leaves but Bischoff, who refuses to leave. Well, until he sees Syxx drive up in an nWo MONSTER TRUCK. WHAAAAT.

And that’s where they leave us.

Looks like some of Halloween Havoc’s matches on October 27 are already set.

MAIN EVENT: WCW World Champion Hollywood Hogan vs. Randy Savage
WCW U.S. Champion Ric Flair vs. The Giant (can you smell the bait and switch?)
WCW World Tag Team Champions Harlem Heat vs. The Outsiders
Την επανάσταση έρχεται να κάνει η nVidia με τη νέα της δημιουργία RealityServer, που θα μετατρέψει και αυτό το κομματάκι του κόσμου μας σε 3D, όπως ακριβώς γίνεται στα games.

WCW Monday Nitro
September 23, 1996
Birmingham, AL
BJCC

The current WCW champs were as follows:
WCW World Champion: Hollywood Hogan (8/10/1996)
WCW U.S. Champion: Ric Flair (7/7/1996)
WCW World Tag Team Champions: Harlem Heat (7/27/1996)
WCW World Television Champion: Lord Steven Regal (8/20/1996)
WCW World Cruiserweight Champion: Rey Mysterio (7/8/1996)

HOUR NUMBER ONE! Your hosts are Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko.

Tony shows us an ad in the September 23 issue of the USA Today for tonight’s show with the nWo letters painted over WCW on the Monday Nitro logo with the caption that says, “While WCW is away, the nWo will play!” That’s cool, but WHAT IS UP WITH TONY’S CREEPY FINGER NAILS? Anyways, everybody who matters in WCW is gone to Japan while Randy Savage is left here all alone.

Kevin Sullivan & Konnan (w/Jimmy Hart & Big Bubba) vs. Brad Armstrong & Juventud Guerrera

During the match, Konnan has to work the whole thing because Sullivan refuses to tag. Konnan hits Juvi with the 187 and nails Armstrong with a powerbomb. Now Sullivan wants the tag, as he comes over and DOUBLE STOMPS Armstrong for the 1-2-3. (2:37) Afterwards, Bubba and Sullivan beat down Konnan for his Dungeon of Doom initiation. Once they let up, Konnan’s fine with it and seems quite understanding for a guy who just got his brains kicked in by his “friends”. ½*

Flashback to last week where the nWo was watching Nitro from their limo and overheard Bischoff saying that everybody will gone to Japan next week except for Randy Savage.

Mike Tenay handles the interviews again this week. Randy Savage says he knows that the future of the entire WCW organization rests on his shoulders at Halloween Havoc, which will be very very very scary, but NOT FOR HIM! He has no fear, but Hogan should definitely be afraid of what he’s going to do to him. DIG IT! Anyways, the big question for tonight is whether Savage is going to get beat up, or is he going to beat up the WHOLE new World order? He said something about Elizabeth, but it didn’t make much sense.

Chris Jericho vs. Mike Enos

Jericho nails Enos with a spinning heel kick to start, but then he heads to the apron and flies back in with a slingshot shoulderblock. Enos powers out of an armbar and drops Jericho’s throat on the top rope. He starts choking Jericho and catches him charging at him with a belly to belly suplex. To the floor, Enos clotheslines Jericho from the apron. In a REALLY cool spot, Enos turns the steps over on its side and gives Jericho a SUPLEX ACROSS THE STEPS! Back inside, Enos controls with backbreakers. Sound strategy, but Jericho fights out anyway. Jericho hits a butterfly suplex (probably shouldn’t have done that after a suplex onto steel steps) and nails Enos with a Missile Dropkick. Jericho tries a rana out of the corner, but Enos counters with a SUPER POWERBOMB! Excellent. Cover, 1-2-NO! Enos wants a powerslam, but Jericho flips Enos over into a pin situation for the random 1-2-3. (7:42) Even the crowd is like, “Oh…YAY!” Kudos to Mike Enos for a great match though. **

Glacier vs. Pat Tanaka

I forgot Pat Tanaka has Goldberg’s music. Much like last week, it’s a quick little stunt show. Glacier wins with that reverse roundhouse kick. (1:11) For some reason, Larry Z thinks the new World order might want to buy Glacier for their group. HAHAHAHAH. ¼*

WCW Saturday Night! Watch it IF YOU WEEL! 6:05PM eastern! TBS! Brad Armstrong takes on Dean Malenko! Plus, Public Enemy battles High Voltage! Randy Savage will be there if he survives whatever may happen to him tonight against Big Bubba! Thank God Saturday Night is pre-taped! It’s the MUTHASHIP! PAY WINDAHS, CLUBBERIN AND PLUNDAH, BABY!

Greco-Roman wrestler Matt Ghaffari who won a silver medal in the ‘96 Olympics is in attendance. Larry Z calls him a loser for only winning the silver medal…in the OLYMPICS.

WCW World Tag Team Champions Harlem Heat (w/Sister Sherri & Col. Robert Parker) vs. Public Enemy

The Heat attack the Public Enemy to start. Grunge gets dumped, but saves Rocco with a flying clothesline. Both teams go back and forth before we go to some commercials. When we return, Booker misses the Jumping Leg Lariat and crotches himself. HOT TAG TO GRUNGE! He takes too much doing the cabbage patch dance and gets NAILED with a clothesline from Booker. Stevie Ray tags in and draws Rocco into the ring as Booker slams Grunge on their table. Back in, Grunge fights out of a chinlock, but gets nailed for real with the Jumping Leg Lariat courtesy of Booker T. Delayed cover only gets Booker a nearfall. Thanks to the split screen, we see the new World order’s limos drive up. Back in the ring, Grunge gives Booker a swinging neckbreaker and makes the tag to Rocco. DOUBLE NOGGIN KNOCKER! On two black guys? Naturally it doesn’t work. Yeah, Alabama would have never bought it anyway. Stevie Ray side slams Rocco for the HARLEM HANGOVER, but Rocco moves out of the way. Grunge and Stevie Ray brawl to the floor. Rocco reaches at Stevie Ray through the ropes and gets pushed back on top of Booker for a pin attempt, but his foot is on the ropes. Uhh, looks like they screwed up the finish. Anyways, Booker’s small package rolls over into Rocco’s favor and he gets the 1-2-3. (8:44 shown) And we’ve got NEW WCW world tag team champs. Makes you wonder if the Heat didn’t want to drop the belts to the Outsiders at Halloween Havoc. Probably shouldn’t have, because they never did regain any momentum they had as the tag champs and Public Enemy never had any momentum in WCW to start with. *½

Take that, Paul E.

HOUR NUMBER TWO! Your hosts are Eric Bischoff, Bobby Heenan, and Mike Tenay.

Randy Savage vs. Greg Valentine

Valentine beats Savage in and out of the ring. Most importantly out of the ring, because Savage grabs a chair and beats Valentine back into the ring with it. He climbs to the top with his chair in hand and BLASTS Valentine from off the top rope. That will get you DQ’ed for sure. (2:58) And now the new World order hits the ring and does a HUGE number on Randy Savage. ½*

Elizabeth peaks out from behind the Nitro set, but then returns before anybody in the ring sees her. Once Savage has taken the Outsider’s Edge and the Jackknife Powerbomb, the Giant (wearing a dress shirt and black vest) gets on the mic and introduces Hollywood Hogan as ‘the greatest professional wrestler in the world’. Hogan comes out a HUGE chorus of boos. No one could mistake this for a mixed reaction. He gives Savage a couple Legdrops and then Nash beats him with a Slim Jim. Hilarious. After that, Hogan spray paints the bald spot on the top of his head black because the light is reflecting off his head and its blinding. Like he’s not wearing sunglasses indoors AND as though Hogan himself isn’t 80% bald. After that’s over, Hall and Nash hijack the announce table. Heenan and Tenay get the heck out of there, but Bischoff remains captive at the desk. Syxx, DiBiase, Giant, and Hogan all follow as they introduce the newest member of the now – the head of security: Vincent! Yes, its Virgil from the WWF. He stands over Bischoff for the duration of the show and makes sure he doesn’t go anywhere.

After a commercial break, the nWo debuts their race car which will be driven by Kyle Petty. Bischoff ~ “WHAT?”

Jim Powers (w/Teddy Long) vs. M Wallstreet

Since the second hour of Nitro will be brought to you by the new World order, Giant will be your ring announcer. Before the match begins, Hall and Nash come down to beat up Jim Powers for no reason. Wallstreet leaves, ref Randy Anderson leaves, and Teddy Long is begging him to do something to stop this unnecessary beatdown. Out comes Nick Patrick to ref the match. He doesn’t care – he’ll do whatever. He’s still not saying he’s part of the new World order yet though. This match becomes Giant vs. Jim Powers. Giant CHOKESLAMS Powers in no time flat for the 1-2-3. No rating or anything.

Meanwhile in the back, Hollywood Hogan is writing “nWo” on the walls and singing “Hooray for Hollywood”. He runs into the Nasty Boys, thanks them for always having his back, and gives them his room key so they can meet up later to talk business.

For the rest of the night, Bischoff asks over and over again questions “what do you want?” and “will you just let me leave in peace?”

Jim Duggan vs. Ron Studd

Hogan and Nash beat up Ron Studd in the aisleway so Syxx can have a match with Duggan. When Duggan gets out of hand and hits the THREE POINT STANCE, Giant pulls him out and gives him a CHOKESLAM on the floor. Then he rolls Duggan back in as Syxx jumps on top for the 1-2-3. (2:20) Back over to the announce table, Vincent slaps Bischoff on the back of the head. That’s GOT to get annoying. ¼*

nWo Sting vs. Bo Ledoux

For a second there, I think Birmingham thought this really was the real Sting. Bischoff says he’s in Japan even though last week he told everybody he was a free agent. By the way, Bo Ledoux is supposedly some jobber the nWo hired, which makes this possibly your first official all-nWo match on TV. I love it when Bischoff says that anybody who thinks this is the real Sting is ridiculous, yet everybody in WCW bought it for the entire week leading up to Fall Brawl. Stinger Splash sets up the SCORPION DEATHLOCK with no trouble at all. (1:36) Yeahhhhh.

High Voltage vs. The Amazing French Canadians

The Amazing French Canadians end their singing of their national anthem early as Hall and Nash head to the ring to squash High Voltage. DiBiase calls this the first match of the nWo tag team tournament. Literally, I think Hall and Nash emptied out their entire moveset on these two. JACKKNIFE POWERBOMB to Kaos gives the Outsiders the win. (8:10 shown) Yeah, complete and utter squash match. ½*

They replay the Randy Savage beating and just sit around talking and being themselves as we eventually run out of time. Ha, Bischoff still isn’t allowed to go anywhere. “Goodbye from Hollywood.”

Looks like some of Halloween Havoc’s matches on October 27 are already set.

- MAIN EVENT: WCW World Heavyweight Champion Hollywood Hogan vs. Randy Savage
- WCW U.S. Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair vs. The Giant (Flair tore his rotator cuff on this recent tour of Japan, so that match won’t be happening)
- WCW World Tag Team Champions Public Enemy vs. The Outsiders
- Lex Luger vs. Arn Anderson

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…

Game Over
