Da mein Beitrag über das Actionspiel Call of Duty 6 großen Anklang fand und mein Meist gelesener Artikel wurde habe ich beschlossen nun mal über ein gutes Thema im Bereich Computer bzw. Videospiele zu schreiben. Es geht hier um einen der Hits des Jahres und später über ein innovatives Spiel, von einem kleinem Independent Entwickler aus Tschechien. Zunächst aber will ich auf den „Hit“ zukommen.

Seit Anfang November (Fünf Tage vor unserem geliebtem CoD6) ist Dragon Age: Origins in den Läden erhältlich und verkauft hat es sich auch sehr gut. Und das haben sich die Entwickler, auf die ich zukommen werde, mit einer Durchschnittswertung von 90% redlich verdient. Nun fragt man sich zunächst, um was geht es den. Ich versuche mit meiner Erfahrung von ca. 30 Stunden Spielzeit mal einen Überblick zu schaffen. Sollten dies hier echte „Nerds“, „Pro´s“ oder richtige „Fanboys“ lesen werden diese bestimmt kleine Ecken und Kanten finden, aber stimmen tut alles. In der, Herr der Ringe ähnlichen Welt Ferelden bestreitet ihr mit eurer Gruppe viele Abenteuer (Quests) die immer abwechslungsreich sind und nie wirklich langweilen. Ihr werdet die Welt erkunden um in der Hauptstory voran zu kommen. Wo ihr hingeht entscheidet ihr selbst. Oft habt ihr die Auswahl von drei, vier oder sogar fünf Gegenden (in die ihr aber alle kommt) zu denen ihr, Story bedingt, Reisen könnt. Entscheiden könnt ihr natürlich, Rollenspiel typisch, auch was für eine Rasse bzw. Klasse ihr sein wollt. Wählen könnt ihr zwischen Menschen, Elfen/Elben und den Zwergen. Da gibt es aber noch Unterschiede: Entweder einen z.B. Bürgerlichen Zwerg oder einen Adligen Zwerg. Je nach Auswahl habt ihr eine andere Anfangsstory die schon mal bis zwei Stunden dauern kann (es ist auch eine Art Tutorial, also eine Erklärung). Dies erhöht natürlich den Wiederspielwert. Ab einer gewissen Zeit kommen aber alle Klassen/Rassen zu einem Punkt der bei allen gleich ist. Dort beginnt dann die eigentliche Hauptstory. Über diese möchte ich aber nicht viel sagen, da der eine oder andere ja evtl. noch Spielen will. Jedenfalls kommen im Verlauf Gruppenmitglieder hinzu. Manchmal dürft ihr sogar entscheiden ob ihr den jeweiligen Charakter überhaupt dabei haben wollt. Zum Beispiel der Qunari Sten. Der sitzt Wort-wörtlich in in der Patsche. Er hat einen Mord begangen (Eine ganze Familie) und sitzt dafür, eingesperrt von der „Heiligen Mutter“ höchst-persönlich, im Käfig. Nun könnt ihr entscheiden – ihn mit in die Gruppe nehmen oder ihn von seinem Leiden erlösen. So ähnlich kommt auch der Meuchelmörder Zevran zu euch. Des weiterem habt ihr auch eine Art Beziehung zu euren Mitstreitern. Ist diese zu schlecht verlässt Er oder Sie die Gruppe.

Um auf die Entwickler zu kommen: Bioware ist DAS Rollenspiel Entwickler-Studio schlechthin. Keines ihrer Spiele war wirklich schlecht, da sie sich nie von einem großen Publisher unter Druck setzen lassen haben. Berühmt wurden sie mit dem Klassischen-Rollenspiel Baldurs-Gate, das im Jahr 1998 erschienen ist. Es folgte ein Addon (Erweiterung) und ein zweiter Teil. Dragon Age wird von vielen, als der Inoffizielle Nachfolger Baldurs-Gate´s betrachtet. Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republik, Mass Effect und Jade Empire sind einige ihrer größten Erfolge. Für weitere Informationen kann man sich einen sehr guten Podcast anhören, indem es in einer Folge um Bioware geht.

Wie bereits am Anfang angekündigt will ich noch auf ein kleineres Projekt zukommen. Die Rede ist von Machinarium. Dies ist ein Adventure das auf Sprache verzichtet. Es dreht sich um den Roboter Josef, der in einer Welt lebt in der alles (sogar Mäuse) aus Metall besteht. Josef erfährt von einer Roboter-Bruderschaft, die einen Bombenanschlag plant. Dies will er verhindern und seine große Liebe finden. Er muss den Stadtbewohnern helfen und Aufgaben für sie meistern. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad schwankt meiner Meinung nach etwas. Mal sind Aufgabe schwer, danach aber wirklich leicht. Ebenfalls unangenehm, aber fast schon Point´n´Click Adventure typisch, ist das langsame Bewegen der Charaktere, das kann man aber gerade noch so verschmerzen.

The AP is reporting that the legendary professional Basketball player Allen Iverson is set to announce his retirement from the N.B.A. Iverson , a former Most Valuable Player for the N.B.A. has been in the league since the 1996 season, in which he was drafted in the first round by the Philadelphia 76ers.

He played with the Sixers for 10 years. During his tenure he was Rookie of the Year, League MVP, 2x All-Star MVP, and led the league in scoring for four years. After his rookie season, during which he led the 76ers in points, assists and minutes, Iverson was named the 1996 NBA Rookie of the Year and was a member of the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

The 10-time All-Star played three games this season with Memphis before taking a leave of absence to attend to personal matters. He was waived after the two sides agreed to part ways.

The New York Knicks considered signing Iverson last week after he cleared waivers, before deciding he would take too much playing time away from younger players they are trying to develop.

With no apparent interest from any other NBA teams, Allen Iverson is set to retire.

Iverson will always be credited for popularizing the streetball style move called the cross-over, and for his exciting tricky aggressive driving style of play.

He was never the tallest on the floor, just the most dangerous player that always wanted the ball.

Allen Iverson is a sho-in for the Hall of Fame, and I suspect that he can still run with the best of them, given a team that can design their plays to allow Iverson to shoot at will.

I personally enjoyed the years I got to watch him compete in the NBA, and I look forward to seeing what he does in the future.

A question that is often asked is now one goes about shooting shiny objects.  The biggest problem with photographing highly reflective object is learning to control the specular highlights.  Controls for the specular are size of light, intensity, and control of the transition areas.   Specular highlights are nothing more than reflections of the light source in the object you are lighting.   The main property of  the specular highlight is it allows the viewer to discern the surface quality of the object being photographed.  In other words a shiny object isn’t shiny if it doesn’t shine.  Below are two red balls the left one looks shiny because of the highlight added to the right side.

In this first set of images the Sliver Trophy has been lit with a bare flash head.  This creates a specular that is very small, bright, and very intense.

 The simplest way to control the specular highlight is to increase the size of the light source.  In the second set of images I place the flash head in a large soft box.  This creates a much more pleasing reflection, but I still find it too bright in its intensity.  The more serious problem for me  is that the edges of the specular are way to hard and defined.

To modify the transition area between the specular and diffused highlight I placed a light panel between the soft box and the trophy.  By moving the soft box very closes to the panel I can  create light fall off at the edges of the light panel.  You can see on the image on the right side the effect of moving the soft box to within a few inchs of the panel.

By placing a panel between subject and main light source I am able to totally control the amount of light fall off in the specular.  In the finale image I moved the soft box back away from the panel to get back a slightly harder edge.

The Kingdom of Cambodia is an overwhelmingly youthful nation. Two out of every three people are aged below 25 and more than 30 percent are aged between 10-24 years; giving Cambodia one of the biggest youth populations in Southeast Asia. Such an abundance of young people brings with it both enormous possibilities as well as complex development challenges.

Cambodian young people are a dynamic and promising economic, social and cultural force. Young people offer new perspectives, new ideas and a willingness to build a brighter future.

But their daily struggles to survive, to complete basic education, to maintain good health, to fi nd a decent job, to support their families, to live free from physical and mental harm and to participate fully in society are real and urgent.

Today’s young people are facing a unique array of hurdles. Cambodia is undergoing rapid economic growth and with it, tremendous social change. The country is also recovering from three decades of civil war and isolation which has left an indelible mark on the fabric of Cambodian society. The generational divide between young and old is vast and young people are often feared or misunderstood.

Yet the challenges which young people face are daunting. 300,000 job seekers leave school each year, and there are simply not enough jobs for them. Migration for economic and educational opportunities is transforming the composition of village life and sending more and more young people into urban centres, exposing them to new risks and vulnerabilities. High-risk behaviour, most especially among marginalized and vulnerable youth, is exposing young people to sexual reproductive health risks, HIV and AIDS, gender-based violence and drug abuse.

Following traditional values, the voices of youth are rarely considered or incorporated into development planning, even though young people constitute a third of the workforce and will continue to be the drivers of growth now and into the future. Active steps should be taken now to encourage young people’s participation in decision-making at all levels.

This Situation Analysis of Youth is the first time that all available data on youth has been compiled and evaluated. It is regarded as a first step to assist policy makers, non-governmental organizations and youth themselves to develop a wide-ranging and inclusive National Youth Policy which will address the specific needs of young people in the areas of health, education, participation, employment and well-being and can guide further investment and interventions.

Positive trends in primary enrollment and an overall improvement in health and education indicators demonstrate that with investment and a pro-youth approach, the situation for Cambodia’s young people can be improved. Young people are Cambodia’s greatest resource for the future. They require our assistance and our support to nourish and guide them successfully into adulthood.

Caramelised banana, frozen raspberry, and white chocolate truffle

Food Preparation/Creation

The longest part of the prep is the caramelisation of the banana pieces. After cutting the banana into small pieces, I rolled them on a bowl of caster sugar and use chopstick to pick it up and put it on the open flame to burn the sugar until it caramelised. And I have to do it one by one. I wish I had a butane flame blower to do this – much much quicker. Then I let them cool before I put them into the verrine.

The rest is really easy. A couple of pieces of raspberry and then the white choc truffle. I had this white choc truffle that my wife made as part of her French Pattisserie class (how convenient). Then I top it up it a mini mint leaves from my herb pot.

That all sound easy, but I did have to assemble the verrine twice. If you’ve dealt with frozen raspberry before, you’ll know that it doesn’t stay frozen too long. Adding on top of that, I was shooting on one the hottest day in Sydney that time (the temperature peaks at 41 degree Celcius that day). So what happened was I did my first verrine fine and beautiful with the truffle pop out a little bit higher than the verrine glass. As I prepare the scene and the props, etc the truffle has sunk to half the height of the verrine glass. The raspberry layer just get squashed as the raspberries reach the room temperature and become really soft. I decided to keep going and finalise my props before I make the second version. Gotta be quick with frozen stuff. That’s one of the hard part in shooting food stuff.

The Shooting

As with the props, I choose to put a cup of black coffee on the background along with a relatively sizeable sugar container. I wanted to convey the dinner mood at the dessert time. The sugar container sort of reinforce the “sweetness” of the dessert – at the same time balanced out by a black coffee, giving a bit of that coffee-bitter taste so that the overal scene is not to “sweet”.

I also deliberately choose black coloured coffee cup so it almost “blends” in with the dark background and doesn’t become distracting. With the big sugar container, I wasn’t quite sure about it initially because I thought it could be distracting because it’s going to look like a big bright blob at the background. But it kinda turned out ok I think. Maybe the neutral colour with some blurred writings on it makes it work. It sort of draw your eye away a bit from the verrine so forcing your eyes to explore the entire frame a bit more instead of just fixated on the verrine glass.

Camera is really at low angle this time to accentuate the height of the verrine. Also, with low angle, the layer is more visible as is, ie not “squashed” because of the high angle perspective. I did play a bit with exposure to make sure that the frozen ice layer on the raspberry is correctly exposed.

I covered the surface with black cloth to create the low key shot. Soft light is positioned at the usual 10 o’clock direction. Big reflector from 4 o’clock direction elevated quite high so it doesn’t produce a reflection on the glass. I also choose to use portrait orientation because I thought it goes better with the shape of the verrine.

Camera settings are 100mm at F5.6 1/4 second at ISO100.

Observation

A bit of reflection of coffee cup on the glass – again I left it as is. A spot highlight appears on the bottom right of the glass, casting a bright spotlight on the dark surface. I find it quite interesting. Obviously it comes from the softbox and get refracted that way. I’m still trying to get my feel on the type of the verrine glass that’s suitable for dessert or savoury. Some says tall verrines are good for savoury whereas low wide verrines are good for dessert. I deliberately make it the otherway around this time. What’s your take?

1) T.N Dickinson’s Witch hazel is a great inexpensive all natural astringent for the skin and can be found at your local drugstore.

2) Ever forget your blot powder or need to tone the shine down? Try a light dusting of baby powder.

3) To get a nice pout of the lips, after lipstick & gloss is applied use  concealer  and apply around the lips blending with brush.

4) To achieve an instant brow lift, apply a sheer layer of brow highlight above the brow.

5) To give lips a fuller appearance, add gold or silver to the center of the bottom lip. This technique can be applied to any lipstick or gloss. Remember to slightly blend.

6) Baking soda mixed with water gives a paste consistency that makes the perfect exfoliant.

shopping & Styling for eyeglasses:

1) consider frames size, shape, and color when choosing Frames. Gold metallic frames are best on individuals with warm or golden skin tones. Individuals with cool or olive skin tones look best in silver or pewter-colored metallic frames.

2) Dark frames make the face look smaller.

3) Thinner, more delicate frames flatters a small face.

Nun ist es also draußen! Das lang ersehnte Actionspiel (Ego-Shooter) Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2. Inzwischen hat es sogar den Verkaufsrekord gebrochen mit über 4,6 Millionen Verkauften Einheiten. Der Publisher muss laut Berichten am ersten Tag über 200 Millionen Dollar verdient haben. Nicht schlecht, oder? Wenn man die ganze Kritik von tausenden Menschen, hunderte CoD6-Boykott Gruppen oder auch sämtliche Forums-Diskussionen bedenkt. Da fragt man sich als ein „außen-stehender“ warum den die Aufregung? Diese Frage möchte ich hier mal beantworten. Dazu gebe ich gegen Ende dieses Artikels eine persönliche Kritik ab, als jemand der dieses Spiel gespielt hat.

Ende 2007 bzw. Anfang 2008 erscheint der vierte Teil der beliebten Call of Duty Serie. Eine Serie die bis dahin im zweiten Weltkrieg spielte. Das neue an Teil vier: Es spielt in der Gegenwart, erzählt erstmals eine durchgehende Story und ist in drei Akte unterteilt. Auf die (typisch US-Amerikanische) Story möchte ich hier nicht eingehen, wer sie wissen möchte liest sich am besten dies hier durch. Das ganze ist (Blöde USA-Story weg gedacht) sehr gut inszeniert, jede Mission spielt sich anders (gut) und bleibt Spannend. Das kommt bei der Fachpresse sehr gut an. Die meisten vergeben eine Spitzenwertung von über 90% und auch kommerziell verkauft sich das Spiel, dank des guten Seriennamens, sehr gut. Ein weiteres Plus des Blockbusters ist der Multiplayer-Modus, bzw. der Lan-Modus (Lan=Lokal mit Freunden spielen ohne Internet, auch LAN-Partys genannt). Bitte merkt euch das für nachher, wenn ich auf den zweiten Teil zukomme. Das Spiel wird neben Counter-Strike und World of Warcraft einer der Multiplayer Hits und wird noch heute von tausenden gespielt. Rund um die Uhr. Man kann zu jeder Zeit Online gehen und man wird immer Mitspieler finden. Einzige Kritikpunkte sind die Kurze Spieldauer des Spiels und das erschießen von Zivilisten (Zivilisten ebenfalls für Teil zwei merken). Hierzu muss aber gesagt werden das dann die Mission vorüber ist und man neu starten muss. Mit allen Pluspunkten (Multiplayer, Inszenierung, LAN) ist aus CoD 4 wohl eines der besten Spiel des ersten Jahrzehnts geworden. Grund genug einen Nachfolger zu produzieren: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2! Seit dem 10. November dieses Jahres in allen Läden erhältlich. Was machte also der Entwickler um so viele Fans zu verärgern? Er strich den LAN (Offline) Modus, strich Dedicated Server und setzte eine Steam-Pflicht voraus. Steam ist ein Programm mit dem Spiele gekauft werden können und mit dem der Spieler sein eigenes Profil hat und sich mit Freunden „verbinden“ kann. Allerdings kann es dir passieren das Steam ein Spiel einfach mal nicht startet und Valve (Besitzer von Steam) kann dir das Spiel „entziehen“. Dies ist eigentlich meines Wissens in Deutschland verboten wird dort aber genutzt. Jedenfalls ist Steam zurzeit stark im Trend bei Entwicklern und Publishern. Immer mehr Spiele setzen auf Steam und der Spieler wird seiner Rechte regelrecht beraubt. So kam es dazu das sich sämtliche Spieler beschwerten und Petitionen unterschrieben gegen diese Schritte. Die Petitionen erreichte 140.000 Unterschriften doch der Entwickler Infinity Ward ließ nicht locker. So weit zu dem einem (in Form von mehreren) Kritikpunkt. Der andere kam erst auf als das Spiel fertig war und der Kunde das Endergebnis sah. Die Story war schlimmer als jeder Propaganda-Film der USA. Ich erkläre hier kurz die Story, (ich übertreibe kaum) „Die USA wird von den Russen bedroht! Wir müssen alles tun um Russen zu töten“ Hinzu kommt in der sehr schlechten Story (aber wieder super Inszeniert) die Zerstörung der ISS und ein Washington DC als Schlachtfeld. Wer die Story genauer beschrieben haben will schaut in einer Berühmten Enzyklopädie nach. In einer Mission (No Russian – Kein Russisch) ist man ein Amerikaner (Wer denn sonst?) in Undercover-Mission bei Terroristen auf dem Flughafen Moskau. In dieser Mission schießt man alle Zivilisten einfach nieder. Ohne jeglichen Sinn in der Story! Da denkt man sich: Was hat dieser Entwickler sich dabei gedacht? Ich persönlich saß ein wenig „geschockt“ vor dem Rechner.

Ich mag Ego-Shooter und hab überhaupt keine Probleme mit ihnen, doch bei diesem Spiel hatte ich einfach ein „abstoßendes“ Gefühl. Das hat nichts mehr mit Action zu tun sondern einfach nur mit Sinnlosigkeit. Dazu kommt diese USA-Propaganda in dem restlichen Verlauf des Spiels und eine Streichung des Offline-Multiplayers. Das geht meiner Meinung nach nicht, Spiel hin oder her.Verstehen kann ich auch nicht wie die Fachpresse das nicht in ihre Wertung einfließen lassen konnte.

Target selesatu tahun 2020

Dijelaskan BSD City tahap II ini ditargetkan selesai pada tahun 2020 dengan perkiraan biaya investasi sekitar Rp15 triliun. Pengembangan tahap II ini akan dibagi dalam 2 fase, yaitu fase pertama seluas 850 ha yang diperkirakan selesai tahun 2013 dan fase kedua seluas 1.150 ha yang diperkirakan selesai pada tahun 2010.

Sementara BSD telah menunjuk PT Herburinas Nusantara untuk melakukan penilaian atas properti perseroan. Berdasarkan penilaian dari PT Herburinas, nilai pasar atas properti perseroan sebesar Rp18 triliun. “Sampai saat ini perseroan belum merencanakan untuk melakukan rights issue ataupuan aksi korporasi lainnya,” ujarnya.

Not only was that dunk insane, but there was yet another D-Wade experience. Lebron misses a dunk on one end, and D-Wade brings the ball up the court, looks Varejao in the eyes and said, “Daddy’s home!” Varejao got sonned, and there was nothing he could do about it. If the dunk wasn’t enough, D-Wade turns to the crowd and yells, “That’s how you do it! That’s how you f*ckin do it!” Was that a shot at Bron Bron? I think so! It wasn’t malicious, just a friendly rivalry last night. One thing’s for sure, D-Wade’s dunk will live on as long as there are highlight reels.

Em minhas palavras, o código-fonte é uma linguagem humanamente inteligível que, quando utilizada corretamente por um programador, pode ser transformada em uma linguagem que os computadores entendam a fim de executar alguma tarefa dentro de um programa de informática.

Voltando ao tema deste post, muitas vezes eu tive que reproduzir aqui neste weblog algum código-fonte de exemplo. Para destaca-lo do restante do texto, modifiquei a cor de todo bloco que representasse essa codificação.

Assim, eu usava:

porém, ele ficaria muito mais legal, se eu fizesse isso aqui:

O wordpress tem um recurso legal chamado SyntaxHighlighter, que faz com que seu código seja mostrado de uma maneira mais acessível aos programadores.

Eu desconhecia esse truque até que entrei no blog do Giolvani e decidi que era hora de deixar a preguiça de lado e começar a fazer alguma coisa mais consistente pra ajudar o povo que me visita.

Então, encontrei esse tutorialzinho dentro do Codex e gostaria de compartilhar com vocês. O link é:

Para transformar, é fácil:

digite o código-fonte dentro da seguinte estrutura:

EM TEMPO -> coloquei espaços em branco após os colchetes intencionalmente para que ele pudesse aparecer na íntegra dentro deste post. Na prática você deve remover os espaços em branco de dentro das tags, ou seja, após o “[" e antes do "]“.

Dicas úteis:

No lugar de sua linguagem, você deve especificar sobre qual linguagem de programação o highlight se refere, pois existem diversos code-standards para diferentes tipos de linguagem.

Os parâmetros suportados são:

Caso nenhum parâmetro seja especificado, o pseudo bbcode do wordpress vai assumir que você quer apenas fazer um texto simples sem highlight, ou seja, o valor default desse parâmetro é igual a “text”.

Os outros parâmetros opcionais são:

• autolinks (true/false) — Transforma todas as URLs do seu código-fonte em clicáveis. O valor default é true.
• collapse (true/false) — Se true, o bloco de código será comprimido (fechado, resumido, collapsed) quando a página carregar, exigindo que o visitante clique para expandir e melhor visualizar. É ótimo para códigos gigantescos. O valor default é false.
• firstline (número) — Use isso para personalizar o valor numérico da linha inicial da sua numeração. O valor default é 1.
• gutter (true/false) — Se false, os números das linhas que aparecem no lado esquerdo serão escondidos. O valor default é true.
• highlight (números das linhas separados por vírgulas) — Você pode listar os números das linhas que você quer destacar, por exemplo: “5, 55, 1578″.
• htmlscript (true/false) — Se true, qualquer HTML/XML do seu código, ficarão em destaque. É bem útil quando você está misturando linguagens dentro de seu script, como é exemplo de uso ter um código PHP inserido dentro de um contexto HTML. O valor default é false e funcionará somente com algumas linguagens específicas.
• light (true/false) — Se true, a numeração das linhas e a barra de ferramentas ficarão ocultas. É útil quando você quer postar algo pequeno, como somente 1 ou 2 linhas de código. Isso deixa a visibilidade da sua página bem mais limpa e agradável. O valor default é false.
• ruler (true/false) — Se true, uma régua de posicionamento de caracteres será mostrada no topo da sua codificação. O valor default é false.
• toolbar (true/false) — Se false, a barra de ferramentas que mostra botões utilitário quanto você posiciona o mouse em cima do código não será mostrada. O valor default é true.
• wraplines (true/false) — Se true, a quebra automática de linhas será desabilitada, o que causará o aparecimento de uma barra de rolagem para códigos com linhas muito longas. O valor default é false.

Com isso, o visual dos nossos blogs do wordpress ficarão muito melhor. A partir desse post, estarei adotando essa boa prática.
