Conhecido pela sua inteligência e paciência, Hill bateu recordes que até hoje não foram igualados.

Never measure the height of a mountain until you have reached the top. Then you will see how low it

Never measure the height of a mountain until you have reached the top. Then you will see how low it was” [Dag Hammarskjold].

While making the three-hour trip to Thanksgiving dinner last week, I noticed a road sign I had not seen before. It was your typical yellow diamond-shaped warning sign which read, “Hill Blocks View.”

And while the road we were on was quite narrow and unlined, and the sign appeared at the bottom of a hill, the terrain wasn’t what I would call treacherous, nor was the hill especially steep. I guess the sign was present simply to notify drivers that the hill created a blind spot.

I mentioned the sign during lunch and my sister said, “That’s what hills do, they block the view. Why in the world would they need a sign to alert drivers?”

And, that started me thinking about why, indeed, you would need a sign at this location to state the obvious.

Perhaps the sign was present specifically because the hill didn’t appear to be dangerous. I wondered how many drivers, without a reminder to use caution, went flying over the hill only to experience a disastrous encounter with a piece of slow-moving farm equipment or stopped school bus or other unexpected obstacle.

Each of us encounters hills that block our view of the future. It is not unusual to encounter similar challenges over and over — they may not appear especially difficult or dangerous or out of the ordinary, but at that moment they are all we can see. And because they block our view of what could be, we accept them as permanent and insurmountable. In reality, however, if we keep going, they become temporary obstacles which dissolve away as we continue our climb toward the summit.

Don’t become discouraged. Don’t stop. The hill in front of you, the one that is blocking your view, is not meant to be your future.

If you keep going, you’ll be able to see your future from the top of the hill. I guarantee the view will be worth the effort!

It’s the constant and determined effort that breaks down all resistance and sweeps away all obstacles [Claude M. Bristol].

Whatever you are, be a good one!

Today, me and my family put together out Christmas tree. It was tradition for us to do so after the Santa Clause parade. So today consisted of a lot of ornament hanging and ribbon wrapping. You know how in some trees people put a theme to it, not ours. Ours is filled with whatever ornament we thought was cute at the shop. It’s nice though, the different memories and colours. Also, a few days ago, my dad put up the Christmas lights on our roof. Many peopls go full out with their lights, but not my dad. He puts one string across the roof, and thats it. Simple, sometimes a little too simple.

All the Christmas decorating got me thinking about the different songs I used to love~

The Christmas Shoes~ It’s such a touching song. I remember I used to make fun of it when I was younger, but once I sat down and listened to the lyrics, I realized that the song wasn’t stupid… I was for laughing at it…

Another one is Faith Hill’s Where Are You Christmas~She’s an AMAZING Singer~

…I hope those work….

Currently: Bored… which is why I have two posts today~

It’s been a strange week, I hurt my back and was unable to run which is gutting after the progress I made last week, I also feared and in some ways I still do that my back problem is as a result of the running, I hope not.

With the Merthyr Mawr race fast approaching I dug out my old trainers ready for the run as I did last year but they are not fit to walk in let alone run 10k up sand and through mud so I went out to but a cheap pair of trainers yesterday and christened them with a short run this morning.

I ran a fast, rainy 1.5 miles with 2 nasty hills and although the trainers were OK they aren’t as good as my regular runs, I have full intentions of buying a new pair of New Balance after Christmas so I may still decide to use my current running shoes for the race and just use my new Reebok’s to tide me over for the couple of weeks afterward until I get my new pair.

I hope not to get too far ahead of myself but I watched the highlights of the Snowdonia Marathon on S4C last week and I really want to run it next year, it’s a big ask and it’ll depend how my back heals up as Christmas approaches but if I feel well enough in the New Year that will be my next goal. The more I read of the race the more excited I get.

Today’s run was powered by the album “Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down” by Noah and the Whale and was sponsored by the letter S. S is for Swift, Shins and Sore.

After Tucuman I went to Salta. Salta is located in the northwest of Argentina and also know as La Li

After Tucuman I went to Salta. Salta is located in the northwest of Argentina and also know as La Linda, the beauty. Salta is indeed a nice city, though as in many Argentinian cities it is all about the main square. The three main cities in this area (San Miguel de Tucuman, Salta and San Salvador de Jujuy) are located close to eachother. Within five hours you are in another city!

In the afternoon of my arriving day I strolled a bit around the city, just to have a look how the city is built up. As many cities in America (not only south), Salta has a grid patron, hard to get lost! But every junction and so ever look the same.

The second day I went with a cable car up to the hill to have a view over the city. This was nothing special, just another view over another city. Since it was incredibly hot for my standards I spent the rest of the afternoon mainly near the pool of the hostel and bought myself the Lonely planet of Chile!

Because I decided to have seen the city up to visit Cafayate, with a tour up to the second biggest wine region (mainly white) of Argentina. The tour to Cafayate was nice than Cafayate itself, but it was worth the money anyway. The region you have to pass is dry, extremly dry, and the most beautiful rock formations can be seen. After the next mountain you are suddenly in an area with enough rain to feed the grapes. Of course a few wineries were visited and so was the church. Good thing about churches is that they are quiet (after the rush of a town, city), nice (architecture) and cool (instead of the main plaza next to it). Pictures will follow, they are worth it, even when you have not been there!

The day after I went to Tilcara, pretty Tilcara!

I was telling my sister recently to just keep going. She was sharing with me how she’s having

I was telling my sister recently to just keep going. She was sharing with me how she’s having a hard time landing a job and was ready to quit.

I had my share of those moments when things seem to not favors me no matter how hard I try. Many times I kind of given up too. Other times, I just had kept on.. something made me go on and I did. And looking back, those were the times when I kept going that I was able to reap rewards.

I started reading Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich free ebook and I got pass the Three Feet From Gold story that reminded me of an experience about a wild trip to Baguio.

It was ”…three feet from where the Darbys had stopped drilling that the gold is found.” by the ‘Junk’ man to whom Mr. Darby sold his machinery for mining ore for a few hundred dollars .

Indeed, one of life’s irony is just when we feel so defeated and about to give up on something that the answer shows up all of a sudden. And we later realize the lesson.

The Baguio Wild Trip

It was a chapter in my life when I decided to start over. I talked my friend Leo into accompanying me and since he’s never been to Baguio he was delighted. Not to mention that it’ll be an all-expense paid for him which I shouldered. He was kind of broke at that time. I didn’t have much either. But it was the way to go for me.

Another buddy named Joey went along. So it was three of us. I told them my plan which is to look for a job and stay for good. I kind of gave myself a one-week target to get settled. It was a do-or-die situation.

We got very limited money and no definite place to go in an unfamiliar place. It was crazy.. and perfect. Amidst the uncertainty is the incomparable freedom of a dare-devil adventure.

We got there late in the afternoon and set out to our first task of finding a place to stay for the night. The boarding house hunting started the next day.

Our first stop at Joey’s church friend in Crystal Cave did not go well. I remember how some of the house structures there with base posts on slopes kind of given me a scare and wonderment at the same time. I was used to seeing and inhabiting level ground houses.

Come dark we were exhausted and so beat, we settled with the second immediate option we got. They slept over at one of the church centers, I in one of the several market stalls owned by another of Joey’s church friends, walking distance from them, which I remember to be nearby the airport.

It was frightening for me to be separated from them on that first night in a cold place and to be sleeping at someone’s stall that has wood strips for a door. I scolded them in the morning for making me sleep there alone.

We grab some quick food along the way as we search for a boarding house. It started out exciting as we explore the roads and sites of Baguio until after several failed inquiries for a prospect pad. The thought of sleeping again in that stall made me cringe, we have to find a house to crash in tonight, I told myself.

So, after several more road blocks covered and seen houses, still no success. It’s either beyond our budget, not so cool for our tastes (but we’re not that choosy alright.. ), no vacancy, or the owner or landlord simply doesn’t want to take us in.. maybe for some ethical reasons.

Imagine a girl with two bisexual-looking guys with baggages and a sleeping bag, who looks like stowaways without much, looking for a place to stay. Hmmp.. maybe I would think twice too if I were in their shoes.

By late afternoon we were tired and desperate. The guys were deciding to call it a day. I feel them but wasn’t gonna give up yet and so beg for one more house.

We trudged wearily up the hill as the sun was setting down and knocked on one more door. Finally, a sense of hope.. the owners seemed accommodating and empathic of our situation. We know we’re not that appealing group of boarders.. we told them our story, of me staying for good… They probably took pity and admitted us that night. What a relief. Whew!

And thank goodness we decided to check one more house.

The days that followed were mixed feelings of ecstasy being in ‘paradise’ and the stress of job-hunt and getting by each day with mainly instant noodles or canned sardines, rice and bread. It was a humbling and empowering experience all at the same time. We had to call long-distance for some money support from close sources to survive that week. We weren’t let down.

Before the week ended, I scored a job as a graphic designer for a mall with a very minimal pay compared to my last in Manila. I was culture-shocked. Anyway, that will do for now I thought. One day at a time.

On the seventh day, I move in to a new room-for-rent just a stone’s throw away from work. We were evicted from the first boarding house by this time.

It was the last day of our adventure together, as planned. So that same day Leo and Joey bid me goodbye and good luck as I escorted them to the bus terminal.

I welcomed my new life in ‘paradise’ and the new work the next day with a smile. The end.

August 29th

I was in Vancouver. There was a layer of ash over everything. There was snow in the background, in the mountains.

September 1st

I was living next to an odd river. I was upset it was fake. It was somewhere up north. I went into the river, it had no water. They always turned off the water in the Fall. I was standing in it, when suddenly someone turned on the water again. I was stuck in the river. There was a child following me.

September 6th

I was in a strange mall. I wanted to get a camera. It was a Canon and it folded up to be tiny and could be carried on a key ring, but still had all the available features.

September 7th

I was stuck in a mall. I couldn’t leave. One of the stores was closing down, so I stole something. There was a priest there. My car fell off a bridge into the water. I saw the word horseman.

September 13th

I was on a boat. There was a swamp we were going through. There were weird animals in the swamp, including a huge snake. I had to meet some strange man named Richard at a coffee shop.

September 15th

I was at a school reunion. Things were strange, I got lost. Every store was having a huge sale. Staci, a girl from school, had become a missionary. Suddenly, I was at a water park. I had to walk over a huge hole full of water to get to the rides. There was a couple that kept insisting that Ted Kennedy was still alive.

September 16th

I was with a strange, unknown woman. We were both looking at a map of North America. We were looking at places we thought should have waterfront property, creating floods. We were concentrating on the North. There was a judge living with her son in that area, for some reason we thought it should be flooded.

September 20th

I was in a mall in Washington DC, with another girl. She was modeling clothes. We were trying to steal tea. Suddenly, I was with Laura Bush. She was talking about her kayak that could fit in the bathtub. We were working on a calendar, I was walking a dog. The dog was trying to eat a poisonous plant, I wouldn’t let him. I tried to eat the plant.

September 23rd

I was at some sort of auditorium with Laura Bush, GW Bush and Obama. There was something wrong, something sad was happening. I was trying to help Laura Bush. I was showing her my cat.

September 26th

I was standing on a hill, watching the sea. There were a lot of people on the beach, having fun. A huge wave came out of nowhere. People went into the water and drowned. There was a car in the water. It was like a toy and got swept out to sea.

September 29th

I was in an airplane with a strange man who had wild brown hair and a wild beard. We were trying to get over the international dateline, but we were having problems.

October 3rd

There was a man, somewhere in the Middle East, amongst Arabs. He was not Arabic. He was walking through a very poor village. He got in a small plane to pilot it, it crashed in water. He lived, but had too many secrets. He had a pill, took it, and died. He was in very shallow water.

October 9th

I was riding a bike along the South American coast, something was wrong, the atmosphere was all weird and a hole opened up in the sky.

October 12th

I was in Africa. There was terrible flooding. I was trying to get to places on a bus. People kept trying to get into my backpack and steal things.

October 26th

I was looking at a floor, it was ruined by water and age. There was American money all over the place, but it was moldy and in bad shape. People were trying to grab the money, but it fell apart in their hands.

October 27th

I was in an old house, getting ready to move. Satan was changing bodies, he was in a little boy. My parents old buffet had stuff in it. Things were empty all over the Quad Cities, all the stores were closed. One of the parks had weeds and plant growth all over it, like nobody had taken care of it. People were gone.

Foreword to Global Warming is a Myth

THE LUNATIC OF NARANATH

There is a book titled ‘THE LEGENDS OF KERALA’. In one story a wandering Brahmin called Vararuchi takes a tribal woman with him and she bore twelve children by him. As soon as a child is born, she is told to leave it by the wayside and they proceed on. To the question: how it will survive, the Brahmin would say: if it has a mouth ,it would be fed; do not look back.

The first baby was brought up by a Namboodiri family (Mezhathol Agnihotry-the family is still there) and he became a Namboodiri. Another was a famous carpenter – Perunthachan. Among the rest was the lunatic of Naranath who captivated me as a singular personality.

Like his father, he was a wanderer. At night he would rest in a smashan, where dead bodies are burnt. Not to waste the fire, he cooked rice there. In a cool night, enjoying the warmth of the fire, he slept soundly after a day of continuous wandering.

That night, Bhadrakali, during her nocturnal trip, was surprised to find a human being and was naturally curious. In spite of her fierce shouts, she failed to rouse the stranger. Somehow he woke up and shouted back, Who is this mad woman? The Goddess was immensely pleased with the sheer daring of the man and wanted to bestow a boon; but the man refused, saying he would accept no favours either from man or God. For both it became a prestige issue. At last, the man relented. He said: I have elephant-foot on my left side; you may transfer it to my right side!

It was his pastime to roll a stone up the hill and throw it down. Watching it tumble down, he claps his hands and laughs. The hill, supposed to be his favourite haunt, is near Shoranur. On the first day of the Malayalam month of Thulam, thousands of pilgrims go up the hill. `I had been there a couple of times. It rains and the path is dangerously slippery. Yet, I enjoyed it.

I am mad. How else can I dare to write such fantastic nonsense? A lunatic is free of all inhibitions. He sees Nature as God made it. He does not worry about what is written in the text book. The greatest book is Nature. READ IT CAREFULLY without missing the punctuation. Accurate observation and logical thinking are the two pillars of knowledge. Science is nothing but the search for TRUTH.

I welcome criticism-merciless and incisive analysis.

Note: Shoranur is in Palghat (Palakkad) dist., Kerala State

Dearest Olivia took me to Tesco’s to get the food shopping in last night and, upon setting eye

Dearest Olivia took me to Tesco’s to get the food shopping in last night and, upon setting eyes on the four-page list of ingredients I was supposed to buy, helped me reach the executive decision to give cookery a miss this week.

It’s the end of the pay period, I’m not exactly rolling in it and I’d rather buy electricity and phone credit than vine fruits and pudding basins. I apologise to my mum and dad for this because it means I probably won’t be turning up to either of their houses over Christmas bearing seasonal homebakery as I’d hoped.

Today my friend and now colleague Flavie accompanied me on a mini-reconnaissance through Primrose Hill to find a good taxi-hailing street where I could loiter, lumpen in my orthopedic footwear, and pretend to be glamorous despite it being pitifully clear that will be impossible for the next six weeks.

The outfit went down the pan because I couldn’t even bring myself to try on my pencil skirt with flats, let alone wear it to a new job, and then the accessorising fell by the wayside too.

Skirt suit

Law suit

We had to run away quickly because people started throwing coins at me. One of them implored me to please not spend the money on a good meal.

Conclusions:

In the absence of recipe cookery I was able to buy a trolley-full of exciting fruit, veg, yoghurt and other healthy items I hardly ever get to eat. It’s the equivalent of how a normal person feels buying a load of cakes and pizzas.

A few things ruining my chances of looking like a Hitchcock heroine this week: flat shoes, special boot, crutches, neon socks on crutches, too-low waistlines on clothes (cinching and flats have a difficult marriage), eighties tailoring, heavy fringe, lighting.

It was a dense forest in those days; hence its name Puruvanam, which became peruvanam. The rishi brought the image of Shiva, the Lingam, a half cylinder, to be installed on top of the hill. Afterwards, the upper half of the hill, leaving the small area where the Lingam was placed, was razed down to its present size, making a vast plane, with the central high ground standing tall (MADATHILAPPAN) which is protected by massive walls on all sides, with twin temples of Eratteppan and Madathilappan, the latter standing tall, with a number of granite steps leading to the sanctum, from where, you get a sky view of the surrounding landscape. I am never tired of watching it, from childhood days, as my mother’s home was near the southern Gopuram (gate).

There were several venerable, old trees in the compound, including peepal tree and one perillamaram (meaning- tree without name, as it was a stranger there), all looking very old and about to die. New trees have replaced them.

The big koothampalam, where chakyar koothu was a regular ritual in those days, is rare in the other temples.

The koothu is a sort of mono act and Ramayanam is the theme. The Chakyar will make fun of any body among the audience, however high his status!

Once, the chakyar came very near to the man, a VIP who had just entered the hall, stood there for a few seconds, and commented: a real monkey, only the tail is missing!

One is supposed to suffer and grin, never retort.

Every year, for one month or so, there is thevaruseva, when there will be feasting, both times in the day, only for Brahmins. The dining hall is very long, some four feet in height, cut into three segments to allow devotees to pass through. As children we had difficulty in jumping up on to the dining place.

Throughout the year, there is simple food served to brahmins which we avoided as something below our status. Tamil Brahmins made use of this facility. My maternal grandfather’s brother lived at the western gopuram, eating the free food.

The circular sanctum of Eratteppan ( there is one big lingam and one small lingam by its side, hence this name) is very spacious, with a circular covered veranda, allowing the poojary to go from Shiva in the west to Parvathy in the back of the sanctum. In Keralam, Shiva is alone; in rare cases, where she is allowed inside, she is at the back of the temple.

The eastern entrance, where the gopuram was destroyed by the soldiers of Tippu Sultan, leads to the broad sloping arena, where seven elephants can stand side by side, during pooram festival. Farther down is the spacious temple pond. All the villagers take bath in this waterhole, with steps to climb down and a pucca shed on one side, where the poojary takes bath before entering the temple. The pond will not dry up even in summer, in rainy season it will be full.

Mekavil Bhagavathy is near the western gopuram. Oorakath Ammathiruvady, Thiruvullakavu Sasthavu, and several other temples are in the vicinity.

The location of the temple is twelve KM from Trichur, on the road to Triprayar temple of Lord Ram.

Preparations for the Merthyr Mawr 10k are well on course if today’s run is anything to go by.

Preparations for the Merthyr Mawr 10k are well on course if today’s run is anything to go by. I ran 5.9 miles and incorporated 4 steep hills (2 long and 2 short) and a few gradual ones and although I took my time I didn’t struggle too much.

I think I’m mentally pretty much ready but physically is a slightly different issue, because much like Friday’s gym session I really found it difficult to get going, my legs felt stiff and my feet hurt but after about 2 miles and 2 short but steep hills I felt the adrenaline rushing and I finally found my stride.

I took 2 quick breaks, the first was at the foot of the first big hill for a minute or so at about 2.5 miles to compose myself and the second was at the top of it for the same reason, I never stopped again and even ran up the second big and even steeper hill without stopping before or after the climb and then ran home from there.

I never timed myself but am confident I was quite slow as I wasn’t rushing, I was more concerned with getting a good distance and getting some nice hills under my belt which I did.

The weather was terrible fluctuating from dry to drizzle to downpours and there was even a hail storm, and the wind was calm most of the but every now and then there would be a strong gush of wind which could come from any direction and would almost knock me down.

I feel tired and I have a sore right foot after the run but overall I feel good, it’s the first time I’ve run anywhere near this distance since the start of July so I’m more than happy with the run.

The run was powered by the albums “Infinity Land” by Biffy Clyro and “Individual Inconsistent” by Midget.

Here’s something we already knew but now looks official: Roy Halladay won’t be re-signing with the Jays. According to ESPN.com, Paul Beeston told the New York Post that Doc is set to test the free agent waters, and why not? Let’s see — a chance to play for any team in the world? If I’m Doc, I’m not choosing this mess of a franchise.

Of course, this was inevitable. Are you up for this, Alex Anthopolous Ricciardi Jr.? With several young pieces in place already, now’s the time to deal Halladay. Adam Lind, Aaron Hill, Travis Snider and Ricky Romero are a fine core to build around, and the addition of say, Clayton Kershaw, just might accelerate the process all the more. What do you think, Dodgers? Can we get something done?
