Languidece noviembre, amarillean las hojas de los árboles y todo ese rollo… y como ellas, van cayendo marchitos los estrenos del fin de semana, sin despertar gran interés a un servidor. Algo me dice, sin embargo, que unos cuantos millones de personas se empeñarán a llevarme la contraria:

-Luna Nueva (estrenada el miércoles 18): Blockbuster palomitero apoyado en el fulgurante (y por mí no catado) éxito de las novelitas de Stephenie Meyer, aquí está la segunda entrega de… sí, otra historieta de vampiros y amoríos adolescentes, en la línea del producto HBO True Blood. Cómo será de pobre el guión cuando de lo único que se ha hablado es de si el vampiro Robert Pattinson, cansino como él solo, sale con esta o con la otra; y, sobre todo, con cuántos kilos de músculo se ha forrado el hombre-lobo Taylor Lautner. Pobre crío él, que a sus 18 años se ha visto obligado a machacarse en el gimnasio y engullir proteína tras otra, y quién sabe si metiéndose hormonas y otras mierdas, para cambiar su cuerpo cuando aún estaba desarrollándose, por culpa de unos productores que sopesaban la idea de largarle por alfeñique. Con más razón que nunca: para fans de la saga.

-Amelia: No parece que sea el caso, pero película que hace Hillary Swank… (casi) Oscar que se lleva; ahora encarna a una aviadora pionera que tiene que sufrir a Richard Gere y a Ewan McGregor (¡Dios!) mientras rompe barreras más chungas que el sonido, como la discriminación por ser mujer, bla, bla, bla.

-Un lugar donde quedarse: Sam Mendes, otrora admirado por American Beauty, parece cada vez más fuera de onda; ahora sirve una comedia gafapastiana y con airecitos Green Village, rollo cultureta/alternata/intelectualoide que tira para atrás.

-Tenderness: El título, la verdad, no invita nada. Luego, ¿quién sabe?, igual hasta engancha la historia de un poli (Russell Crowe) obsesionado con un chaval que mató a sus viejos y del que está convencido que, fuera ya de la cárcel, se cepillará a más gente, incluida una niñata enamorada del tal asesino. Una incógnita.

-La noche que dejó de llover: Luis Tosar se merece nuestro eterno respeto por su Malamadre de Celda 211; pero esto, hasta que alguien me demuestre lo contrario, es una ESPAÑOLADA.

The program for this week was an actual big screen release with legit star power. The Reaping stars Hilary Swank and the little girl from the Bridge to Tarabithia. The plot is pretty straight forward. Swank plays an ordained minister who lost her faith after her family was murdered by tribesmen she was trying to help. Apparently they decided that since her prayers didn’t bring the rain, perhaps the blood of her family would. How she got away is never really clear, but she now is dedicated to investigating “miracles” and finding scientific reasons for them. She is approached and asked to come to a small Southern town and investigate a phenomenon there. Seems the river has turned to blood and the town people are blaming a creepy little girl who lives with her mother in the woods. Calamity ensues as more “biblical plagues” start hitting the town. It is the standard tale of science trying to explain the supernatural. All in all a pretty good movie. The acting was at a level one would expect and while there was a fair amount of suspense, this film lacked a bit in the horror department for me. Some parts seemed a bit fragmented, but everything works itself out in the end. My only points of major concern were the extent to which people who follow “primitive” beliefs were portrayed monsters. However, all things considered, it wasn’t beyond the scope of how the characters would have felt.

This movie review took a while to put together because I was torn on how many stars to give it. After much arguing and deliberation the mental committee had to bring in a mediator from the other hemisphere of my brain to resolve the dispute and render an acceptable verdict. The final result then is that this movie gets 3.8 stars. It was a solid performance with above average acting and special effects. The main plot flowed enough but the backstory to it felt forced and had some pretty gaping holes in it. This flaw of course detracted from the points as did the lack of any truly quotable lines. Still, it is a movie worth watching.

Diane Kruger attempts to add an edgy look to a classic white dress. Hit or Miss? Under my personal preferance, Diane Krugers’ risky fashion attempt was a definite miss. She pulls it off well, but the actuall look itself isn’t my favorite.

Miley Cyrus keeps it simple with a blacked out wardrobe. Hit or miss? Miss. I don’t necessarily like this look, because I think it’s little to rough looking for Miley.

Quem é você? E as pessoas com as quais todo o dia interage? Com que profundidade conhece os seus colegas de trabalho? Se atua em educação, quais são as informações que possui a respeito de seus alunos? Normalmente temos apenas uma visão superficial e pouco clara da maior parte dos relacionamentos que estabelecemos ao longo de nossas existências. E será que estamos preocupados com isso?

Em se tratando de escolas, por exemplo, em muitos casos parece que o nosso único dever é o de ministrar aulas, passar conteúdos, preencher cadernetas, corrigir provas, cumprir cronogramas e planejamentos. O que não parece muito diferente daquilo que acontece em tantos outros setores produtivos da sociedade, sejam eles hospitais ou escritórios, fábricas ou lojas,…

Bater cartão, cumprir responsabilidades variadas, entregar resultados e atingir metas. Viver dentro de um sistema em que a meritocracia é o principal indicador de valor social nos distancia cada vez mais uns dos outros e, aos poucos, vai minando (a ponto de destruir em certos casos) a nossa humanidade. Devo esclarecer, dede já, que não sou contrário à produtividade, ao ganho, ao crescimento profissional e ao desenvolvimento econômico de pessoas, empresas e países.

No entanto creio que todos têm que ponderar questões e situações do mundo real que afetam a coletividade e que colocam barreiras e criam problemas a nossa existência. O debate sobre o aquecimento global, por exemplo, é um caso mais do que premente e fundamental para a existência de todas as formas de vida residentes nesse planeta. Da mesma forma, enquanto não nos preocuparmos sinceramente uns com os outros, iniciando essa ação a partir das pessoas que nos são mais próximas e presentes, como podemos imaginar que as questões globais poderão ser resolvidas?

“Escritores da Liberdade”, filme do diretor Richard LaGravenese, estrelado pela talentosa atriz Hillary Swank (duas vezes premiada com o Oscar, pelos filmes “Menina de Ouro” e “Meninos não choram”), baseado em história real, nos coloca em contato com uma experiência das mais enriquecedoras e necessárias. Sua trama gira em torno da necessidade de criarmos vínculos reais em sala de aula, conhecendo nossos alunos, despertando para suas histórias de vida, entendendo o que os motiva a ser as pessoas que são.

Emocionante relato de uma experiência bem-sucedida que ainda está em desenvolvimento, “Escritores da Liberdade” tem tudo para se tornar um novo libelo do cinema em prol da educação mais efetiva (como “Sociedade dos Poetas Mortos” ou “A corrente do Bem”), onde se respeitam alunos e professores e também em que as pessoas se percebem em suas particularidades e se permitem construir, conjuntamente, como aliados, um futuro melhor para todos. Imperdível!

Cansada do trabalho em empresas que desenvolvia até aquele momento e desiludida quanto às possibilidades de crescimento e realização pessoal naquele âmbito profissional, a jovem Erin Gruwell (Hillary Swank) resolve mudar de ares e dedicar-se à educação. Assume então uma turma de alunos problemáticos de uma escola que não está nem um pouco disposta a investir ou mesmo acreditar naqueles garotos.

A pecha de turma difícil, pouco afeita aos estudos e que vai à escola apenas para “cumprir tabela” se mostra, no começo da relação entre a nova professora e os alunos, uma realidade. O grupo, formado por jovens de diferentes origens étnicas (orientais, latinos e negros), demonstra intolerância e resistência à interação, preferindo isolar-se em guetos dentro da própria sala de aula.

A nova professora é vista por todos como representante do domínio dos brancos nos Estados Unidos. Os estudantes a entendem como responsável por fazer com que eles se sujeitem à dominação dos valores dos brancos perpetrados nas escolas. Suas iniciativas para conseguir quebrar essas barreiras aos relacionamentos dentro da sala de aula vão, uma a uma, resultando em frustrações.

Apesar de aos poucos demonstrar desânimo em relação às chances de êxito no trabalho com aquele grupo, Erin não desiste de sua empreitada. Mesmo não contando com o apoio da direção da escola e dos demais professores, ela acredita que há possibilidades reais de superar as mazelas sociais e étnicas ali existentes. Para isso, cria um projeto de leitura e escrita, iniciado com o livro O Diário de Anne Frank, em que os alunos poderão registrar em cadernos personalizados o que quiserem sobre suas vidas, relações, interações, idéias de mundo, leituras…

Ao criar um elo de contato com o mundo, Erin fornece aos alunos um elemento real de comunicação que lhes permite se libertar de seus medos, anseios, aflições e inseguranças. Partindo do exemplo de Anne Frank, menina judia alemã, branca como a professora, que sofreu perseguições por parte dos nazistas até perder a vida durante a 2ª Guerra Mundial, Erin consegue mostrar aos alunos que os impedimentos e situações de exclusão e preconceito podem afetar a todos, independentemente da cor da pele, da origem étnica, da religião, do saldo bancário.

“Escritores da Liberdade” é uma fabulosa história de vida que nos mostra como as palavras podem emancipar as pessoas e de que forma a educação, a cultura e o conhecimento são as bases para que um mundo melhor realmente aconteça e se efetive.

Lições:

1. Ame ao próximo como a si mesmo.O ensino cristão baseado nas palavras de Jesus Cristo não é devidamente compreendido como deveria. As pessoas costumam levar as palavras ao pé da letra e associar esse breve e profundo enunciado ao verbo amar em seu sentido mais literal. Poucos são aqueles que extrapolam a compreensão mais imediata do vocábulo e o entendem, nesse contexto, como respeitar o próximo, tratá-lo com decência ou ainda admitir as diferenças e valorizá-las como parte da diversidade humana que nos leva ao crescimento. Parece que sempre queremos impor princípios, modelos, práticas e ações que levem os demais a serem parecidos conosco. Falamos em demasia e escutamos muito pouco. As próprias escolas, em particular aquelas que ainda baseiam sua ação quase que exclusivamente no modelo mais tradicional de educação, realizam monólogos e dão pouca vazão ao conhecimento e à história de vida dos alunos. Desvaloriza-se tudo aquilo que o estudante tem de experiência ao mesmo tempo em que se lhes impõe, goela abaixo, saberes que são considerados “essenciais” aos mesmos… Será que não está na hora de rever tudo isso?

2. A intolerância é, sabidamente, cultural. É um conceito construído ao longo de nossas existências. A tolerância, em contrapartida, parece nascer com cada ser humano. As crianças constituem o maior exemplo disso. Não há cerceamentos e restrições no contato com outros seres humanos entre os pequenos. Para eles, o importante é interargir, brincar, trocar, tocar, abraçar, jogar… Será que podemos aprender as lições das crianças?

3. Ler e escrever são elementos básicos da civilidade. Projetos de leitura, atividades de produção escrita regular, valorização dos livros e da literatura, espaços para a divulgação daquilo que está sendo produzido nas escolas pelos alunos no que tange a textos ou ainda à ampliação dos espaços de leitura são realidades e preocupações que vemos em nossas escolas?

Outra versão para o apocalipse

Astros tem uma dívida com produções de pouca expressão no cinema. É engraçado como certos hábitos predominam mesmo quando começos de carreira esquecíveis se convertem em produções de igual quilate. A maioria das estrelas estréiam em filmes baratos e sem pretensões. Este “A colheita do mal” se destaca por ser este tipo de filme mas com um orçamento milionário.

Hillary Swank paga sua dívida com as origens mas não faria isto em um filme barato. Basta que apenas fosse ruim.

Nessa Segunda Feira saiu os vencedores do Hollywood Film Awards,a premiação que dá a partida pra temporada de ouro no cinema,mesmo essa premiação não trazendo resultados relevantes ao resultado final (ou seja o Oscar) ele tem lá sua certa importância.
Ano passado somente Dustin Lance Black e Wall E receberam os prêmios na mesma categoria em que venceram no Hollywood Film Awards.

O Que Acho Disse Tudo?

Nas categorias mais importantes achei legal Star Trek vencer e eu até acho que o filme será indicado ao Oscar (são 10 né),ADOREI ver Julianne Moore e Christoph Waltz vencendo de Coadjuvantes e até gostei de ver Hillary Swank vencendo melhor atriz também e a coisa que eu mais quero no próximo Oscar é ver Hillary ser indicada e perder pra qualquer outra (preferência Annette Benning,nunca vai acontecer).
E bem interessante Robert De Niro vencendo,mas não levo a mínima fé nesse filme.
Nora Ephron vencendo de melhor roteirista,será que esse filme é isso tudo?!tem todos os pontos positivos,fiquei bastante curioso depois desse prêmio da Nora.
Adorei ver Gabourey Sidibe vencendo esse prêmio de New Hollywood Awards (não assisti a esse filme mas acho que será algo muito bacana).
E por fim a pergunta que eu faço é,Alexandre Desplat tem tempo pra família?!
E agora é esperar pro próximo prêmio,até lá.

week in Doha, Qatar’s capital, with Robert De Niro, Tribeca’s co-founder, expected to be on hand for the opening film, the Hillary Swank-Richard Gere opus Amelia. Unlike red-carpet filmfests in Dubau and Abu Dhabi, Doha is looking to showcase independent films (Steven Soderbergh’s Informant, Michael Moore’s Capitalism: A Love Story) — but hey, it’s still the middle east. Both Doha and Abu Dhabi programmed Bahman Ghobadi’s No One Knows About Persian Cats, a film shot covertly in Iran, but none of the Gulf festivals have programmed a film from Israel, and if your passport is Israeli, you can’t get there from here. Muchas teorías se han formulado acerca de cómo murió Amelia Earhart, la primera mujer aviadora en cruzar el Atlántico, y Fred Noonan, que desaparecieron en el océano Pacífico el 2 de julio de 1937. Y tal vez encontraron el lugar de ‘descanso’ de estos dos aviadores.

La legendaria aviadora Amelia Earhart probablemente murió en una isla tropical deshabitada de la República de Kiribati al sudoeste del Pacífico, de acuerdo con El Grupo Internacional para el Rescato de aviones históricos (TIGHAR)

Alta, delgada, rubia y valiente, Earhart desapareció mientras volaba sobre el Pacífico el 2 de julio de 1937 en su intento por romper el record de sobrevolar la linea ecuatorial. El lugar de su muerte ha sido un gran misterio.

Por años, Rihard Gellispie, director ejecutivo de TIGHAR y autor de “Encontrando a Amelia”, y su equipo han estado buscando en la isla de Nikumaroro alguna evidencia de Earhart. Un pequeño atolón coralino, Nikumaroro estaba 300 millas al sureste del destino de Earhart, Howland Island.

Un número de piezas recolectadas por la TIGHAR sugieren que Amelia y su acompañante, Fred Noonan, hicieron un aterrizaje forzoso en la parte plana de la isla, un arrecife de coral plano.

Saw VI should take the top spot. Although last year was the first time in a while that a “Saw” film did not take the top spot at the box office, it still took over $30 million. Even though “Paranormal Activity” is gaining extreme buzz and expanding its theater count, “Saw VI” should take $30-33 million.

Playing to the polar opposite audience of of “Saw”, “Astro Boy” should take second place. With no other major family release this week, “Astro Boy” brings the classic to a new generation. While the male crowd will be flocking to “Saw” and “Paranormal Activity” “Astro Boy” will bring in $21-24 million.

“Paranormal Activity” should continue its strong run and make another $15-18 million.

“Cirque De Freak” will struggle to find its audience. Based on the popular books, the film is trying to appeal to the crowd in between “Astro Boy” and “Saw”. However, bad reviews will not save the draw of the ensemble cast including John C. Reilly, Ken Watanabe and Salma Hayek. Still, the books have enough fans that a $12-15 million opening should be in order.

“Amelia” will do the worst of the new releases. The film, which stars Hillary Swank, has Oscar bait written all over it, except it is getting lukewarm reviews at best. Look for a $8-11 million opening.

It’s weird seeing my mother naked. Maybe because I never had kids and so didn’t go through all that ‘natural bodies humble family as clan’ business.  I was never exposed to a bunch of naked bodies at once like swimmers in locker rooms are. And I may be more comfortable with it all if I’d been part of a nudist colony. I saw a headline online the other day that said something like, “Hillary Swank: My boyfriend’s six year old son sees me naked.” No, that just doesn’t work for me.  (Although, I wouldn’t mind seeing Hillary Swank naked.)

People with dementia are famous for not wanting to bathe. I am lucky that I can still get mom in the water with enough gentle prodding. In the book I am reading about becoming a resilient caregiver (hey, I’d go for simply staying sane!) an example is given where a husband instead of fighting with his wife to get into the shower takes off his clothes and dances her into it and takes the shower with her.

Don’t EVEN get any ideas.

A few days ago when I talked mom into taking a shower I kept down my head down in respect and she held my arm in order to step over the tall tub’s side (what am I going to do when she can no longer step over that?). Guiding her in I saw her nipple. It looks just like my nipple! We both have the same, beautiful nipple! I know it’s crazy but it made me feel better about everything for a while, just that split second of finally being part of a naked family clan.

There are times when a movie opens and you don’t expect much fanfare (this happened with “Brothers Bloom”). And then there are times a movie hits theaters and if you pull apart the fabric folds of the universe, hold them up to your ear and listen very, very carefully, you hear the words “Oscar … Oscar … Oscar.”

(Note to all physicists and aeronautical engineers and astronmers: I apologize for this gross perversion of several renowned theories about the universe, including — I think — string theory.)

Denial is futile; it’s clear Mira Nair’s biopic “Amelia” aims for (and probably will be) the second kind of movie. But I have to say that I … don’t care. There is no actress better suited for this epic a role than Hillary Swank. Lightweight romantic comedy and Lifetime films she cannot manage and buxom vixens she cannot play, but a role like this? Where she’s given room to breathe and express and perform? You doubt she can do amazing things as Amelia Earhart, just go back and revisit “Boys Don’t Cry.” Richard Gere I have less faith in, but Swank? I have no doubts she’ll deserve every nomination she gets.

And, really, isn’t it time we applauded her efforts to live down “The Reaping”?

If you buy into the first rules — that is, you love software and you agree that mostly, stuff doesn’t work — then rule #3 is sort-of the natural combination of those two rules. Basically, if you — or your team — is going to spend a lot of time working on something, and that something probably isn’t going to work, then doesn’t it make sense that if, in the off chance that it does work, that it should actually be worth doing? Consider the following two movie scenes:

“Well, there may be aliens who shoot at us, and there may be an asteroid belt we have to fly through, and we may have to put ourselves to sleep for a year, and we may have to build a crazy spaceship that’s never been built before, and there may be some seriously bad acting in this movie — I mean, we’re talking Hillary-Swank-and-Bruce-Willis-in-astronaut-suits-bad — but if we pull this off, we’ll be living on mars! Can you imagine? Mars!”

That’s the first movie playing at your local Cineplex 22. And then there’s this other movie:

“Well, we may already have a working order-tracking system in-place, and we may have a reporting system that’s been chugging along for 10 years, and it may be annoying that one of our systems runs on Solaris, for god’s sake, and another system works on some weird mainframe thing, but if we pull this off, we’ll have another, different system that will be 10% better than the existing system!”

Which movie would you rather see? The correct answer is, actually, none of the above, since we should really all come together and agree that (a) Hillary Swank should never, ever go into space and (b) that building systems that are only 10% better are not actually worth any of our time.

I am pretty sure there are a lot of people out there who will disagree with my comments here — which is just fine. Is there room for making something 10% better? Of course! (More on incremental improvements later.) What I am trying to say here is, simply, if you are starting out a new project, try your best to find a way to allow yourself to dream a little.

Note: Hillary Swank went to the center of the earth after a brief time in space. Why this seemed like a good idea to anyone, ever, I’m really not sure.

Yo estoy afuera de la pileta, en traje de baño con la ropa en la mano. Hablo con Hillary, se me cae el pantalón sobre el piso mojado, lo levanto y me visto.

Entonces empieza una persecución: Hillary me quiere matar, o yo la quiero matar, o tiene algo mío o le robe algo. No se bien quién persigue a quién ni cuál es la razón, pero corremos sin respiro por el medio de una ciudad. Las calles están muy llenas de gente, entramos a locales, sastres, comedores: creo estar en una ciudad del sudeste asiático.
