From the transcript of my recent visit to the Temporary Employment Agency: Temporary Employment Agen

From the transcript of my recent visit to the Temporary Employment Agency:

Temporary Employment Agency Guy (TEAGUE): Thanks for coming in Will. I have to tell you that I have less than twenty minutes to talk with you. We have to make this fast. Dia Schnellenberger is coming in for lunch at 12:00 and I can’t keep her waiting. You may have heard of her by her stage name, “Ice Water”
Will Cantrell (WC): The Rapper? Yesterday, on the phone, you said that you had a job for me…
TEAGUE: Ice-T and Ice Cube were already taken. Do you know that Fia’s a classically trained concert pianist? Surprised? So is everybody. The girl plays the piano beautifully, but she can make a lot more money as a rapper. She is about to blow up.
WC: About the job. I remember you saying something about a job in the media. I was laid–off a long time ago. It’s been a very long time between paychecks for me …I need a job…
TEAGUE: Don’t we all? Things are slow all over. Even for my hip-hop clients. For writers, like you…well you already how tough it is to find any kind of work…especially for somebody like you. Everybody is a writer, Will.
WC: So you like my resume? You like my work on the Internet? My writings?
TEAGUE: Will, we haven’t seen any of that. We like your screen name , JustPlainWill, and all of the potential that it carries for the agency…and for you too, of course. Oh, by the way, I need you to sign this Confidentiality Agreement. You’re going to hear some things today that you’ve probably already suspected. I just need for whatever your hear to remain here.
WC: Sort of like Vegas? Let me read the agreement. My screen name?
TEAGUE: There’s no time for you to read it. Gia is going to be here in just a bit and I ‘d like to get you all squared away before I have to meet with her. Here …sign right here. Just your initials will be fine. OK, Great. Now that you’ve signed the CA, we wanted to see if you might have any interest in being on a new television show. It’s a new Sunday morning news show very similar to the ones that are already on like Face the Music on CBS and Greet the Press on NBC and the show For the Weak on ABC. This one will be on Fox and it’s going to be called “Jumping to Conclusions”. Clever huh?
WC: What would I be doing on the show?
TEAGUE: Will you’ll be a pundit. You know one of those guys that sits around a table and talks about politics and economics and stuff along with three other people. Sometimes they even talk about baseball. The pay is good…$17.00 per hour plus you get to promote your own website and any books that you may have written in the past week. Your deal will be just like the guys already on. A couple of the TV pundits make more money selling T shirts and baseball caps over the web than they make from their networks. We envisioned you being “J.P. Will”, George Will’s long-lost brother. That came from your screen name of JustPlainWill. Do you own a bow tie?
WC: I don’t have any experience being a pundit. I mean, I need a job and all, but I don’t want to look foolish. And besides, its only one hour a week.
TEAGUE: Will, that’s one of the things that the job is all about. But, no worry, if you are concerned about looking foolish, we’ll send you to school. Pundit University…for a week. The school is over in Chevy Chase, right next to the Ajax School of Professional Wrestling. PU is in the same building, run by the same guys. I’ll cost you $300 to go but in a week’s time you’ll be saying things like “….the rate of the rate of the rate of the rate of unemployment fell three percentage points in the numbers that were released this past week. The end of the recession is in sight.” The folks at PU will also rehearse you in saying things like “…the administration is spending way too much money on these pork barrel projects” or “the Obama administration is spending too little money on pork barrel projects.” Just like the other pundits you will have absolutely no clue as to which one of these statements is correct. After a week at PU, you’ll just know that in all likelihood, one of the statements is. Mostly likely, anyway.
WC: But still its only seventeen dollars a week!
TEAGUE: Will this is how all of the pundits started out. If “Jumping to Conclusions” does well, they will be running it every night and then again in the middle of the night. That’s how these cable channels cope with having to fill all of the time with no real news. Now do you want to be considered for this gig or not? Trust me, if you don’t want it, there are plenty of other people who jump at the chance to do this.
WC: I just don’t have a lot of experience at punditry.
TEAGUE: Listen, no pundit had any experience. It’s better that way. George Will, Charles Krauthammer, Juan Williams, that chick from England, the bitter one from the Philippines…none of them had any experience before they were pundits. You ever sold used cars, Will? There’s one pundit whose on right TV right now…I can’t tell you which one because of confidentiality, but he was a used car salesman just a week before he was a pundit…and he’s been a successful pundit for years. Doesn’t know squat. But you don’t have to know squat to be a pundit. There’s another one who shall go unnamed, who had just gotten out of jail a month before he started Pundit University. There’s one woman who’s been retired for a while, but she was a hooker before becoming a pundit.
WC: You’re kidding me?!
TEAGUE: A “straight up ‘ho!’“ I kid you not, Cantrell. I think that she had just gotten her GED at the time. So you can see that you don’t have to exactly be Harvard educated or have hardly any education at all to be a pundit. Believe me, nobody ever checks the credentials of these folks. By the way, do you have a coat and tie?
WC: Yes I do, but…
TEAGUE: This is a good opportunity Will. Come to think of it, that’s all you need is a coat and a tie and a shirt of course. You won’t even have to wear pants if you don’t want to. There are
several of those the other talking heads on Greet the Press who I know for a fact are not
wearing pants since they are only shown from the waist up.
WC: Well can I be a liberal pundit…you know, one who defends the Obama Administration?
TEAGUE: Sure you can, Will. Sure you can. But I think that you’re making a big mistake. The pundits who make the most money are the conservatives, the neo-cons. It’s just easier. And you get to be belligerent and disrespectful to the administration and all. You get to get really upset on the air…roll around on the floor and have conniptions, even. It’s a lot more fun. Trust me, you should think about becoming a conservative pundit. You’re a black man and nobody really expects you people to be anything but liberals. You’ll be remembered Will. By everybody. I may even be able to bet you $21.00 per hour as a black conservative pundit. A black neo-con. The big thing among the conservatives is “socialism”. Saying that the President is a socialist. You know that most of those folks don’t really know a socialist is. I’ve had a couple of people tell me that being a socialist was hanging out with Paris Hilton.
WC: She’s a social-lite!
TEAGUE: That’s what I mean. That’s what most folks think that a socialist is…a socialite.
WC: If I become a liberal pundit that would mean that I’d get to hang out at the White House and phone conversations with people in the Administration.
TEAGUE: No. You most definitely would not. That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you. Most of the pundits don’t know ANYBODY in any administration. These liberal pundits have never even met the President. Most of them. The conservative pundits are even worse. Do you really think that even George Bush would have ANY of those folks over to dinner? He and Laura would have really had to count the silverware after any of those conservative pundits had shown up at a White House dinner.
WC: Then how do they know what to…

TEAGUE: They make it up mostly. Both sides.
WC: But my integrity is important to me.
TEAGUE: Will, I need to disabuse you of that notion. Dammit man, you’re old enough to know better… OK. OK. OK….let me calm down. Let me ask you a question, Cantrell. You know that in order to stay on the air, “Jumping to Conclusions” has to have good ratings? Let me ask you if you would willing to jump across the table and slap Charles Krauthammer? It would be good for ratings and I’m surprised that nobody has done it by now. God knows he needs slapping. Or he needs to get laid, but I wouldn’t ask you to do that.
WC: I need to think about all of this.
TEAGUE: Listen Cantrell, this is the opportunity of a lifetime. I can’t believe that you’re not begging me for this job. Do you know that you don’t have to have any qualifications to be a pundit. None. Not even a fishing license. Nobody checks your resume, your educational credentials. Nuttin’. You know what? You know what, Mister Cantrell? You’ve made me mad. You should be jumping’ at the chance to do this. You just don’t want it bad enough. All worried about your integrity and all. Integrity, my ass! Integrity. I tell you what…you just blew it, Cantrell. Get the hell out of my office. GET OUT. RIGHT NOW. Slia is on her way. Ice Water. Maybe I’ll just offer the job to her. It’s not much money, but it will be great exposure. Get out. Just get the hell out of here. Now, before I call security!

The Lake Ontario industrial wind farms being proposed by NY State are huge and very close to shore. One includes Iondequoit & Webster and stretches from Parma to Webster. In fact, the project includes many close-to-shore huge wind farms from Parma (Hilton-area) to Mexico Bay.The large wind companies have already done their engineering studies of geographical location and lobbied NY State politicians for these projects. Proposed project sizes are often understated in many ways. Wind power (less reliance on fossil fuels) is a good thing but there are lots of very negative issues and consequences that Lake Ontario boaters and homeowners near the lake will face from this huge wind farm.

Please be informed on the issue. Read this story and look at the 2nd map.

Representatives from the New York Power Authority (NYPA) delivered a presentation to Oswego area government officials and other community members. Click here to read about it.

It’s important that everyone research the issue much deeper than the media, politicians and wind companies are telling the public and take an informed stand either for or against this project.

Miss California - Carrie Prejean So by now everyone has heard about the Perez Hilton/Carrie Prejean

Miss California - Carrie Prejean

So by now everyone has heard about the Perez Hilton/Carrie Prejean scandal. There are three issues at work here.

Asking the question.

The answer.

The response to the answer.

Firstly, asking this question. Let’s say Perez Hilton asked this “what are your personal beliefs on abortion?” I think we would all agree that question is in appropriate. Simularly, asking if same sex marriage should be legalized in all 50 states is also a very polorizing, highly opinion based question. If I was Miss CA, I would have smiled, waived, and said “world peace.”

Second, the answer was actually pretty good. She said she loves that we live in a land where people can choose. Ok, I guess people can sort of choose because they could move to one of the states that allow same sex marriage… I do agree that same sex couples really don’t have much of a right to choose right now. I personally think that’s a shame as we live in a country that really is supposed to be free. Please see my previous posts on same sex marriage. So granted, that part of the answer was not spot on since the freedom for same sex couples is pretty limited right now. None the less, she at least aknowledged that there are some options.

Then, since it was an opinion question, she gave her opinion: that marriage in her opinion was between a

Some guy... blogger I think.

man and a woman. She did even say “I don’t want to offend anyone out there.” She did not say anything negative about homosexual people, for all we know she has many homosexual friends. She just commented on her personal opinion regarding marriage (which is the same opinion of Barack Obama, by the way) as she was requested to do. I don’t see any fault there.

Thirdly the response. This is where everyone finally is beginning to see what I have been saying for years. Perez Hilton is nuts, crude, rude, and worse for society than MTV (and that’s saying a lot). KEEP IN MIND, MY OPINION OF PEREZ HILTON HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS SEXUAL ORIENTATION. If he was straight, or asexual I would think exactly the same of him. He’s a blog version of the worst types of tabloid magazine. I think his site is a plague on culture in the same way celebrity magazines are, and in the same way MTV is. His actions are not shocking to me at all, unfortunately.

I say this – for every minute that people want to spend reading tabloid blogs or magazines, remember the people who are dying of thirst in other countries and spend some time thinking about them, perhaps donating some money. I’m telling you, these celebrities are a terrible distraction from very significant things that are happening in the world. Real people need our help.

So here we are in San Diego, for the annual Heninger Toyota Partner’s Trip, and so far it is fantastic! What a lovely city. Our flight left on Saturday, and was relatively uneventful. I finally got to watch Julie & Julia on the plane, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Meryl Streep was fabulous, and I had no idea that Julia Child was such a cutie, and that she touched so many people. I also really liked the idea of blogging your way through a cookbook and making every recipe inside of it. I would love to do it with the Art of French Cooking, but I don’t think that it really goes with my current state of health and vegetarianism. So maybe I will try it with one of my raw cookbooks. You never know!

Once we arrived in San Diego, we hopped a shuttle to the rental car place. I rented our car with Dollar, because it always comes out to be the cheapest price. And we also discovered before we left, that if you confirm you reservation before you leave, the price will drop. So our rental car ended up costing us something like $20 a day. Crazy huh? So we ended up with a Ford Mustang. I HATE MUSTANGS! I always have, but it’s kind of a laugh driving around in one, especially being in California and mostly surrounded by small hybrid, or environmentally conscious cars! Oh well.

We arrived at the Bayfront Hilton, just after 3:30pm and it is beautiful. I know, I know, we always stay at Hiltons. But they are great! And this one is right on the bay and totally gorgeous. Our room wasn’t quite ready, so we left our bags with the bell desk and went off to find something to eat. We ended up at the Fox Sports Grill (in the hotel). John had been to one with Matt in Phoenix and said that it was quite good. There were quite a few people in there watching College Football, which is a huge event down here in the states, more so than NFL and Americans are hugely addicted to NFL. anyways, the food ended up being mediocre, as did the service. Our waitress looked at us as if we had a third-eye when we ordered. I’m not sure what her deal was, and it took her forever to come over and take our order too. John started with the soup of the day which was a chicken gumbo. It turned out to be more like gravy poured over rice, with a few pieces of chicken. And then he had the burger which he said was okay, and I had a Pecan and Blue Cheese salad that was nothing to right home about. Basically a few candied pecans, with a couple little blue cheese crumbles on romaine lettuce with oil and vinegar. Not that spectacular. We probably would have been better off with chicken wings or nachos.

Anyways by the time we finished lunch, our room was ready. So we grabbed our bags and headed up to the 27th floor. Our room is pretty standard. I forgot to take pictures of it while it was all nice and clean, but I will do that and post them later. The view is spectacular though. We have a bay and downtown view. It’s gorgeous!!

Once we were all settled in, we decided to go find a mall and do some shopping. We eneded up at Fashion Valley Mall. It was really nice, a little bit higher end with Nordstrom, JC Penny, Neiman Marcus, J Crew, LuckyBrand, and lots and lots of other stores. We knew that we really wanted to hit Nordstrom, because John was looking for new work shoes and he bought his last pair at a Nordstrom in Portland, so he was hoping to find the same pair. And he did! He ended up finding two pairs that he loved. Then we headed to Keihl’s, where I picked up some fabulous skin care. They just came out with a new Acai, totally natural and organic line that I really wanted to try, so I got that. By the time we had done all of that it was already 8pm and the mall was closing. So we decided to go and find some dinner. There was a PF Chang’s on the property, so we decided to go there.

PF Chang’s was sooooo busy. We had to wait 50 minutes to get a table. Which was fine with us, because there was another store right next door we wanted to look in. The Container Store!!! It’s a store that is all about organizing. It has every container you could imagine. And for a couple of geeks like us, it was heaven. So we browsed around there until it was time to eat. The food was fantastic. It is a China Bistro, so they server their dishes family style and you share everything. The food was really good. Again John had been here before, so he knew he liked it. And I liked it too. We had the pork pot stickers and dynamite shrimp to start. Both were super yummy.

And then we had the Mongolian Beef and the Vegetable Chow Fun. Can you guess who ordered what?

It was really good. PF Chang’s is a chain, so if you ever get a chance to eat at one. I would definitely recommend it. If you like Asian food anyways.

After dinner, we were walking to our car and noticed two suspicious characters walking towards in also. Although once they saw us, they changes direction and backed off. I think they we going to steal our hot Mustang!! Yikes! So we quickly hopped in the car and burned out of there! I don’t think we were in real danger, but I do think had we not come out when we did, we would have lost our car!

So that is pretty much a recap of day 1, now onto Day 2.

Sunday

So we had spa appointments booked for 11:30am. John a massage and a pedicure for me. So we slept in and lounged around until it was time to head to the spa. The spa was dead. I was the only one in the ladies lockeroom, and the only one in the pedicure/manicure area for the whole of my appointment. My pedicure was great. The girl who did it for me was fabulous and she got rid of the cracks in my heels, so in my books she is pretty much a god! Or would it be goddess! She was also a foot ball addict, and when I told her that’s all anyone in my house talks about, she told me that I better get into it. She goes just pick a team whose uniform you like and do your best to cheer them on and follow them, and you will get into it. When I told John this, he agreed and so that’s what I am going to do. I am going to learn to love the NFL! Which would be good. Then I can be included on Sundays!

John really enjoyed his massage too. We didn’t have much planned and we wanted to stay away from the real touristy stuff on the weekend, so we decided to go check out Whole Foods Market. Whole Foods Market is my happy place. It is a market full of natural and organic foods, supplements and snacks. I knew I wanted to go and stock up on my favorite teas. They always have a great selection of teas, that I can’t find at home. I’m sure I could get them off the internet, but this way I don’t have to pay for shipping. Totally justified right? I was also looking forward to trying out there juice bar, but was totally disappointed to find out their juicer was broken. Bummer. But we were able to find some fresh bottled vegetable juices so we settled with those. We had a great time looking at all the food and dreaming about living near Whole Foods someday.

After Whole Foods we decided to head back to the mall and get the shopping over with, as John would say! I ended up finding a fabulous pair of boots, and a couple tops, and John found a couple shirts that he really liked too. So it was a very successful trip for us. And that mall (Fashion Valley) even had an Anthropologie, which is one of my favorite stores! After the mall, we headed to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. It was really good and the service was great!! Again it was very busy, but this time we only had to wait for about 20 minutes. I had the Portobello Burger with a salad. It was sooooo good. Who knew I like Portobello mushrooms so much, and who knew what a great substitute for meat they are!?!? John had the Cashew Chicken, which he usually really likes but this time not so much. I think he was a little bummed, because his tastes are changing as he gets healthier. Things aren’t tasting quite the same as they used to.

After dinner we headed back to the hotel. (No worries because we parked the Mustang in a much more open spot this time.) And then we just lounged around and watched tv. It was really nice.

John was a keener this morning and went to the gym. I alas did not bring my runners (on purpose? of course not !) So that is how I have time to blog all this. He should be back soon and we are heading to the zoo. I am so excited!!!

Tell you all about it later!

Hotwire. F*cking Hotwire. I trusted it and it f*cked me. That’s okay tho. Still had a good we

Hotwire. F*cking Hotwire. I trusted it and it f*cked me. That’s okay tho. Still had a good weekend, despite Hotwire’s f*ckery.

The Frug has rubbed off on me a teeny bit. Actually tried to save money! Not be a spendthrift! Wanted to have a Girls Weekend in the city but didn’t want to horrify him too much and then find myself locked back up in my Life of Servitude forever, kwim? So, I decided to book a hotel thru Hotwire. Have used it in the past and really liked it. Ended up that time at the Parker Meridien a few years ago and loved it. In case you’re not familiar w/Hotwire, basically, you search hotels based on price/location/etc. but you don’t find out what the name of the property is until you book it. So, I searched hotels in Soho (wanted something hip and cute and boutiquey but not too $$$. In Manhattan, how hard could that be?! LOL)…came up a 4 star hotel w/restaurant/bar, pool, fitness center, etc. for $188. Seemed too good to be true, right? Well, it was. (&$@$ I booked it. IT WAS NOT IN SOHO. It was not a cute little boutique hotel. It was a f*cking Hilton. Nothing wrong w/Hiltons at all. Just like there is nothing wrong w/the Olive Garden or Sbarro, kwim? The most painful part was the it wasn’t in Soho at all. Yes, technically, it was South of Houston. But, it was so South of Houston that it was in Lower Manhattan…Financial District. Our room overlooked the footprint of the World Trade Center…Ground Zero. Freaked me out. I swear there’s still dust in the air from 9/11. There is still just a pit there. A huge gaping hole…8 years later. Why??

Anyway, Hotwire is going to be getting a sternly worded letter (okay, email) about the location! NOT SOHO, did I mention that part yet? The hotel itself, the Millenium Hilton, was very, very nice. Clean, decently sized for Manhattan…the Frug and I stayed at the W back in ‘00 and our room was smaller than a cruise ship cabin! So, we had a room w/2 double beds, etc. that was just not where it was supposed to be…but, it worked out. Had a lobby bar…3 drinks (1 round for us girls) for $50…welcome to Manhattan, baby!

And I don’t mean the board game.

Today, I’m featuring the loud-mouthed, annoying, oversexed, over make-uped Filipina self appointed visionary, stripper, “singer”, humanitarian, and “bisexual” goddess Tila “Tequila” Nguyen.

Today at 2 AM, Tila signed on to a live webcam show at ustream.tv (Here’s a link to Tila’s performance: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2591675) and referred to her “fans” as soldiers, eerily calling herself their mommy and commander, slurring, wide-eyed, and tweaking.

I’ve never liked the bitch and this is the final nail in the coffin. It seems like lately my blog is turning into spewing hate on awful wannabe celebrities. I didn’t intend for it to be that way but its turning out to be such because of how terrible some self appointed celebrities are.

Her disgusting hooker outfit and gravelly voiced screaming should be enough to make anyone cringe. Then she decides she wants to strip.

She banned 1000 users for speaking their mind and telling her that she’s an idiot. If you can’t fight em, block em, I guess. She’s obviously not one who has a way with words. She calls anyone who stands up to her a pussy, but she’s being one herself for blocking people so shamelessly for calling her out on her ridiculous behavior.

She thinks she’s a singer! But then again, what young Filipina girl doesn’t? I saw her supposed “music” myspace years ago and her music is ridiculous.

She claims toward the beginning of the video that her “hood” growing up was so hard to live in. Yeah, poor Tila. I’m sure Daly City was real hard to deal with. Wannabe stripper. I hate ever commenting on anything remotely racist, because I am not and never have been racist, but the Filipino culture has a well known stereotype for stealing others’ personas and cultures, whether it be ghetto, preppy, or what have you. She’s just another addition to that stereotype.

I could go on and on with reasons to hate her, from her over publicized “bisexuality” to her claiming to be a singer and entertainer, to the world of fame excess and trash she lives in, to the biggest question of all, WHO TOLD THIS BITCH SHE WAS FAMOUS?

I don’t see why I or anyone else should even care about Tila Tequila. She’s worthless and she needs to take that gun of hers and blow her brains out. She is a disgusting excuse for a human being.

If this alien-headed gravelly voiced midget spray-tanned surgically enhanced bitch thinks she’s a worthy human being she deserves to get knocked upside the head again to beat some sense into her. Good riddance if she dies young. Peace. Love Nico

For my last neighborhood post I wrote about some of the downfalls of neighborhood development. So,

For my last neighborhood post I wrote about some of the downfalls of neighborhood development. So, to balance out my perspective on downtown, I decided to investigate some of the positive advances in development.

I recently made a visit to the Fifth Street Public Market in downtown Eugene to talk to some of the business owners about their perspective on the area. On my visit to the market I learned that there is a new “boutique hotel” that is in the works. According to the business owners, the hotel, which is going in the space that the old Nike store used to be, will start being built in the next few months.

According to a Register Guard article I found from June, the hotel is to be named “Inn at the Market” and is going to cost about $10 million. The developer footing the bill is Brian Obie, who owns the entire Fifth Street Market. (Interesting fact: Brian Obie was major of Eugene from 1985 to 1989. Also, Brian Obie started Obie Media Corporation, which was purchased by Lamar advertising company for $43 million ). According to the article, the city of Eugene gave Obie a $500,000 business loan to help with the $10 million total cost.

The new hotel will supposedly be even fancier than the Eugene’s Hilton, which was the last hotel built downtown (26 years ago), and rooms will cost 10 percent more.

The business owners at the Fifth Street Market were excited about the new hotel. The patrons of this new hotel, who will pay more for their rooms compared to other hotel goers in town, obviously won’t be too money conscious. The businesses at the market will likely enjoy an increased customer base from the hotel patrons.

Building the hotel is hoped to help create some jobs during construction and after it is finished. It sounds like business owners and the Eugene bureaucrats are pretty excited about this. I wonder what the neighbors think?

While away with work over the coming weeks, I am staying at a rather big, rather expensive hotel on

While away with work over the coming weeks, I am staying at a rather big, rather expensive hotel on the outskirts of a big city in the UK.

Any novelty that might have been had through “living in the hotel” has been destroyed before the end of the first night. It all comes down to one thing – no internet.

No internet means no Skype video call with my children.

At (their) dinner time this evening I sat down in the hotel room, and looked around for an internet cable, or a leaflet explaining about WiFi. I even looked in the wardrobe. Nothing.

A sinking feeling came over me as I realised that none of the rooms in this wing of the hotel have any form of internet what-so-ever. The hotel does have some things though; 1970s decor, vandalised Playstation controllers, and wood splintering off the bathroom door.

Mindful of the minutes ticking by, I called home on my mobile to break the news to our children – that they would not be seeing Daddy after all.

When our youngest had her turn on the phone she asked;

“Why you so far, far away Dad?”

“Because the people I work for told me to”

“Why they tell you to go away Dad?”

It’s sometimes very hard to explain things to a 4 year old.

“Because they did, and I have to do as I’m told…”

As a last resort, a little later in the evening I tried both of our 3G dongles in the netbook, and my work laptop. For a few moments we thought we had a solution; the BT dongle gave a steady 3G signal, and video worked in Skype. It then ground to a halt, and hasn’t worked since. The Vodafone dongle worked in the netbook only, and Skype on Ubuntu refused to attempt a video call without hilarious lag.

So – I’m looking at 6 weeks of Monday through Thursday with a stone-age internet connection which appears to be as reliable as a baby’s bum.

In fairness the evening meal (part of the room booking price) was really nice. It probably helped that I am here with colleagues, so didn’t have the “single person in busy restaurant” experience that I’ve had in the past (it’s a pretty damn lonely one).

One thing about the meal though – one glass of wine cost the same as two bottles of the wine we have at home. I guess that’s how Paris Hilton pays for her idiotic dresses.

The weather has been wonderful this weekend. I love the clear blue sky, occasionally decorated with faint clouds. We had a nice desert walk on Friday morning, and spent most of Saturday on the beach. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this relaxed.

The pipes below are soon to go into the ground. The second phase of Mangaf’s infrastructure works are finally making progress. We took the opportunity, of these pipe-sections being near us, for an interesting background to some family shots… This one is my favourite.

“Dear Family, Apparently when I fell back in June I did in fact break my L1 vertebrae. The doctor simply missed it. I knew something was wrong after four months of pain and needing a walker to get around. I have been to a spine surgeon and on Nov. 24th I will have a procedure done to repair the vertebrae and hopefully relieve the pain. Balloon Kyphoplasty is the med term. Simply means they will insert 2 balloons into the vertebrae, inflate them with ’cement’ and that will be that. Goal is to realign the vertebrae and take pressure off the spinal cord. A mere 15 minute procedure. They insist on general anesthesia so I will be at the hospital about 4 to 5 hours. No biggee but wanted you all to know what is going on. I pray you all have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving and will update you after the holiday. Love you all so much. Becky”

Actor Denzel Washington was playing the role of proud father as he cheered on his son Malcolm’s first game with the University of Pennsylvania basketball team.

The 5-foot-9 Malcolm Washington is a walk-on guard at Penn. He did not play in Penn’s 70-55 loss.

The AP reports that Washington went “virtually unnoticed in the Jordan Center crowd,”and didn’t want to respond to any reporter’s questions before the game, waving this arms and nodding in the direction of the Penn bench.

Washington is in central Pennsylvania filming the movie “Unstoppable”.

The 5-foot-9 Malcolm Washington(b. April 10, 1991) has a twin sister named Olivia, and he was named in honor of Malcom X, which was a significant role for Denzel Washington.

Malcom has an older brother John David (b. July 28, 1984), who signed a football contract with the St. Louis Rams in May 2006 after playing college football at Morehouse college in Atlanta, Georgia.

Being Denzel Washington’s son probably brings a lot of unwanted attention from people who want to be associated with the mega star, but if Malcolm is anything like his older brother John David, he will be able to excel on his own right, as he is a polite and self-sufficient young man.

All the reports that I have heard concerning Malcolm, is that he is very polite, personable, and has a strong work ethic. Denzel has a long-standing policy that he will not speak for his children, and is committed to being involved in supporting their athletic pursuits, just like most proud fathers.

I wish him well at his new college, and success in his role as a team member on his college basketball team.

Go Penn State!!!…and get with em’ Malcolm!!!
