“Me and DJ Green Lantern decided to get together and make a project, which is sorta like an album and a mixtape in one.”

Initially rumored to hit the streets in November, there was not too much depth in regards to the joint venture between rapper Styles P and DJ Green Lantern.

Although November has clearly come and go, business is still in the process as the duo are in works of finishing about their collaborative effort, The Green Ghost Project.

The history books show the background between Green Lantern and the L.O.X as he has worked with the group extensively on the mixtape circuit as well as producing the track “2 Guns Up.

While shooting the video for the track “Kite Runner”, the Ghost was able to speak with Trace TV about the meaning behind the song.

“The song is basically about what dudes are saying in jail to their other dudes and about you not really needing much but a letter and a little bit of love. Not money, not nothing but a little love to send a letter. If somebody’s in jail, just send a letter, let em know you love them.”

As a prisoner of the cell himself, no one but Styles would have the ability to echo the sentiments of inmates doing a bid.

Green Lantern was also able to give some background on the project and how things came together.

“The Green Ghost Project is just DJ Green Lantern and Styles P, the Ghost, coming together. We got in the laboratory and made a monster and that monster is called the Green Ghost Project. Basically, I put a gang of music together/ got with a couple of producers I know personally and me and Styles just sat back and put a format together of a bunch of songs and a flow of the material on the project and the sh*t came out crazy.”

P added that along with the project’s release, he is still on the grind and pushing to bring even more material to the fans from music to books to movies.

“You can expect the Green Ghost Project to drop around February; first, second week of February. Career side, we’re also working on a L.O.X. album with my two partners Sheek and Jadakiss. I’m also working on a fiction novel, Invincible, which should be out in April through Random House and Nikki Turner Presents. I’m tryna work on some films too, tryna actually shoot of the book that’s going to come out.”

During the beef between 50 and the L.O.X, Kiss ended the relationship between Lantern and Shady/ G-Unit as Eminem’s official DJ, along with losing his Sirius Satellite show, due to a recorded conversation with one another. The separating has since then dissolved as Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks appeared on his Sirius Show on Hip Hop Nation.

After repairing the fallout between the two, Jadakiss and Lantern were able to bring together his most recent mixtape sequel The Champ is Here 2: Kiss My Ass.

If you’re into the Buffalo Hip Hop scene (and you should be) then you’ve heard of DJ Noodles. While he lived in Buffalo you may have heard him spinning on 93.7 WBLK, saw him working at different clubs, or listened to his various mix tapes.

If you haven’t heard of him, don’t worry, you will soon. DJ Noodles has been producing tracks for some of the world’s largest Hip Hop Acts, such as: Trazz, Lil Wayne, Pitbull, Akon, 50 Cent, Cam’Ron, Faith Evans, Jadakiss, Ace Hood, Freeway, The Young Gunz, Colby O’Donis, Fatman Scoop, Red Café, Murphy Lee…just to name a few….

He’s recently moved to Tampa Bay, FL and is working for Wild 94.1 and has his own radio show on Sirius/XM Radio on the Hip Hop Nation station. Noodles took some time out of his hectic schedule to talk about his favorite restaurants and some of the Buffalo food he grew up on:

Where is your favorite place to eat in Buffalo?

Noodles: Favorite restaurant has got to be Chef’s, whenever I’m back in the town I have to make a trip there to get their signature Spaghetti Parm, and of course you can’t forget about the Anchor Bar.

What food/cuisine did you grow up on?

Noodles: I’m Italian, so at home I definitely grew up on Italian food, but when I was in high school Mighty Taco, Just Pizza, and Jim’s Steakout were traditions!

Where do you take people from out of town to show them some “Buffalo cuisine”?

Noodles: They need to get a Chicken Finger sub from Jim’s for lunch, then hit Anchor Bar for dinner so they can get those true authentic wings, and then around 1am, its a perfect time to hit up Mighty Taco.

What is your favorite area of Buffalo?

Noodles: Buffalo has so many different area’s that offer their own flavor, a lot of great places to eat and see in North Buffalo, but the best all around has to be the parking lot at The Ralph before a Bills game, my favorite place!

—————–

Buffalo Eats would like to thank Noodles for taking some time out to answer our questions and friend of the blog Lisa, for making this happen. Check out Noodles latest work on Pitbul’s newest album Rebelution (“Dope Ball” and “Pearly Gates” were both produced by DJ Noodles). In addition be on the lookout for future DJ Noodles productions: “All They Wanna Talk About” by Buffalo’s own Trazz, the next Jim Jones album and Noodles own album in 2010. Click here to follow DJ Noodles on twitter to get the latest updates on new releases and appearances.

Theres just way too much dope in this one post for all of you to handle, but I had to do it to ‘em. Here goes a collection of Slaughterhouse interviews, freestyles, and material from certain members that have surfaced in just the past couple of days, dudes are really on the grind for real, for real.

First off we have the audio section of the post, featuring interviews the 4 did with DJ Green Lantern on The Invasion along with their D.O.A. freestyle that went down afterwards, and can be seen in video form at the top of the post. Also the boys visted DJ Envy’s Hip Hop Nation show for an interview and another freestyle, but this time around it’s Joell and Royce doing their thing.

Download: Slaughterhouse on Hip Hop Nation w/ DJ Envy
Download: Joell Ortiz & Royce Da 5′9″ Freestyle

There are also a couple of dope tracks from Crooked I and Royce. Komplex remixed Crook’s Dear Tupac for Tupac’s bornday and for those who haven’t listened to the D.O.A freestyle the crew did for Green, Royce spit a written (this one, actually) but as redemption for himself, he dropped 4 and a half minutes of stone cold spitting for us…

Download: Dear Tupac (Komplex Remix) – Crooked I

Finally, after the jump we have an interview w/ True Stories Radio, behind the scenes of Joell Ortiz x The Kickdrums video for Rik Cordero’s film, Inside a Change for the track, How To Change as well as a trailer for the Joell Ortiz documentary entitled Free Agent you need to remember one date, AUGUST 11th…

About two weeks ago, Three/21, The Kickdrums and Joell Ortiz headed out to Brooklyn’s Cooper Projects to shoot an impromptu live band performance of How To Change”, a song featured on the Inside A Change mixtape featuring Joell Ortiz and produced by The Kickdrums. We shot this one in the middle of the courtyard, complete with a horn section, bassist, drummer and keyboardist. Now if the New York City Housing Authority would install more of these instead of NYPD security cameras, the world would be a much happier place. Enjoy!

Brooklyn Bred MC Joell Ortiz has created a buzz for himself on the radio, the internet, and most importantly the streets. Introduced into the game as Quick, Joell’s talent and hunger were apparent to anyone he came across. Armed with a relentless work ethic and incredible lyrical abilities, Joell rhymed his way through the industry and into the offices of Aftermath Records, where Dr. Dre signed the young Latino rapper and added him to the team. Due to an unfortunate lack of support from the label, Ortiz pushed for his release from Aftermath and has currently become hip-hop’s most valuable Free Agent. After making the choice to team up with the filmmakers from The ICU, Joell looks to give his fans and followers an in depth look into not only who he is, but into his family, his music, and is career. Look out for this film at upcoming festivals this fall.

It is doubtful whether or not McCain or Palin know what will be the aftermath of their “great

It is doubtful whether or not McCain or Palin know what will be the aftermath of their “great racial divide.” Sarah Palin, who seems unfamiliar with cultures other than white and Eskimo, has succeeded in kicking up a brutal, underlying spirit of division, hatred; perhaps even murder. In Nashville, during the Belmont debate, a black man was shot three times (with a BB gun) after being stalked by a “skin-head,” for wearing an Obama t-shirt. One of these bullets hit his face. He survived. What McCain and Palin might not know is that for decades the Aryan Nation and white supremists have been waiting for a “race war.” I am sure that they feel that the time has come with Obama’s bid for presidency, and the excitement of the minority vote. Here in Nashville, a black youth, proudly wearing an Obama t-shirt was told by an older Southern white man, ” take off that shirt, boy, there is never gonna be a black man as president.”

Do the Republican candidates, in their desperate attempts to keep a sinking ticket afloat, realize what they have unleashed? Sarah Palin has tapped into the ugliest spirit of hatred and murder that we have seen since the Civil Rights movement. She stepped out of the pages in time and laid a line of division, from which we will all have to heal. Now, should Obama win, how many of these people, who are running to buy guns, are homocidal? The Obama assasination plot was hatched here in Tennessee. The freedoms that we seek in our privacy cannot be realized because of all of the screw-ball-racist-would-be-assassins that have been stirred up.

How much will it cost the Secret Service to protect a President Obama and his family? Conversly, black people will go ballistic if they feel that the election was stolen from Obama by McCain-Palin. How rabid, we do not know. Some of the young people who are voting for the first time have grown up on a diet of “gangsta rap,” and also have lived this lifestyle. They have invested themselves and their identities into Senator Obama. Who will take this away from them? Not this time, not without an incalculable blacklash.

At the McCain campaign rallies, where the attendees are John McCain’s “fellow prisoners,” we see and hear the virulent ”shot-gun” politics which have its attendees with blood in their eyes. The effects of McCain-Palin tapping into the “lesser angels” of the people is something that the nation will have to deal with for a long time. This campaign itself has been very long. The Clinton camp went through the grieving process for awhile before joining with Obama for a unified Democratic party. How long will it take the McCain-Palinites to recover from defeat?

I say defeat because Senator John McCain always talks about fighting. All the time. Hmmm… Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, unattended. His anger is legendary and ugly. He should receive psychological help. Would anyone be able to survive being a POW for five years without Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? So, the fearless leader of the Republican ticket needs therapy. His side-kick, Governor Sarah Palin needs ethnic diversity sensitivity training. Her star will fade. She is not worthy of it. Talk about a polarizing figure. She’s not worthy to tie Senator Hiliary Clinton’s shoes, let alone finish shattering that glass ceiling!

If anything violent happens to Barack Obama, a civil war will ensue. There will be no winners here. Should the Republicans have a hard time moving on, the fringe element that Sarah Palin plays so well to, are capable of violence in the name of God. I have heard repeatedly that these people believe that Obama is the antichrist. I suggest that they reference the Bible carefully. They have no idea what they are talking about. Perhaps, we were not concerned enough when the disturbed young lady carved a “B” into her own face and made a false police report. This is a throw back to when a white woman who alleged rape at a black man’s hands, resulted in a lynching. Sometimes, it was something as simple as an “uppity’ glance her way.

Why has Sarah Palin been allowed to tap into the ugliest hatred in a country where racism bubbles heatedly under the shallow ground? Why didn’t Senator McCain understand the fury that she had unleashed? There will be backlashes on both sides of this great divide. As I live and breathe, the paradigm shift in America is here and no amount of hate or violence will stop its momentum. The days of putting fear into black voters, in order to keep them away from the polls, are over. The days of throw everything including the “kitchen-sink” campaigning are over. The days of unbridled, unpenalized bigotry are over.

Republicans, step lightly. I advise you to do everything within your power to keep President Obama alive and well… The nation must heal on so many levels, and we are ill-prepared for the possible chaos of the race reaction post November 4th, just as we were when the levees broke in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina.

The Hip-Hop industry, and the music world, has fallen into the worst sales slump in at least a decad

The Hip-Hop industry, and the music world, has fallen into the worst sales slump in at least a decade. Despite the “bling bling” on your television, The Recording Industry Association of America reports that the shipment of music products fell 10.3% in 2001, costing Hip-Hop record companies, producers, distributors, artists, fashion designers, and other Hip-Hop heads millions of dollars in lost earnings. The industry’s suffering is intense, but if you’ve got millions to lose, than you’ve got millions. The Disposable Heroes of Hip-Hop aren’t so lucky.

Who are They?

They are the 16-24 year old members of the Hip-Hop Nation who desperately need options beyond the streets. They are the subject of almost every Hip-Hop track from gangster rap to the party remix. They are the one’s who invented keeping it real, who live keeping it real on the streets of cities like the Bronx, South Central, Detroit, B-More, the District, and Miami. The Disposable Heroes of Hip-Hop love Hip-Hop not because Hip-Hop loves them, but because Hip-Hop is them- it is their struggle to survive in a world of violence, drugs, gangs, broken families, and poverty and still find a way to keep their head up. They are the young people who were not provided the support necessary to complete the twelfth grade or to engage the labor market. Currently, there are approximately 5.2 million Disposable Heroes of Hip-Hop who are out-of-school, unemployed, underemployed, and/or incarcerated. These young people’s sad stories have built a two billion dollar global, Hip-Hop culture; yet, each year, both society and the Hip-Hop industry lose a potential supply of revenue of over 88 billion dollars in the wages that these youth fail to earn. The sharp rise in youth unemployment, the persistent joblessness among young African American men, the broad impact of the current recession, and the overwhelming lack of youth programs and services have contributed to making both the challenges and the needs of the Disposable Heroes of Hip-Hop greater than ever before. Indeed:

Although more than 2083 youth ages 14-19 drop out of school each day, government training programs can serve less that 2% of this population (US Department of Labor, 2001).

Current government and private programs supporting this population are on the chopping block., The Youth Opportunity Program, which serves young people in the highest poverty areas in America, will receive an 80% reduction in funding, cutting services for approximately 24,000 youth.

Since the economy has turned sour, the unemployment rate for 14-21 year old youth of color has accounted for over 70% of the total job loss among all adults in the United States over the past twelve months (Northeastern University, 2002).

The number of youth of color in poverty is expected to grow by at least 30% in the next ten years (Johns Hopkins University, 1998).

While Napster, CD burners, and MP3 players have all been cited for the decline in record sales, it seems clear that the lack of opportunities for the Disposable Heroes of Hip-Hop also plays a role. Without the purchasing power of the Hip-Hop Generation, and perhaps more importantly, without the emotional support and energy of the streets, Hip-Hop may quickly become the fad everyone once thought it to be.

Recycling that Matters

Now, more than ever, it’s time for the Hip-Hop community to reclaim the Disposable Heroes of Hip-Hop and help them to transform themselves into the true players, dreamers, and lovers that they long to be. As Hip-Hop has long been the voice of the suffering of young people in the inner city, it must now rise to the challenge and make the case for government, community, and corporate investment in unemployed, undereducated and disconnected youth. The Youth Development and Research Fund presents the following three recommendations to the Hip-Hop Industry:

Support the “The Campaign for Youth” – a national group of youth advocates invested in improving options and the lives of the Disposable Heroes of Hip-Hop through:

Media assistance. Lend of the services of your media relations firms to help us tell this story to the American public.

Fundraising. The Campaign for Youth needs support. The Capmpaign needs 500,000 to cover costs associated with this advocacy effort and underwrite a national PR campaign. The Campaign’s goal is to secure 14 billion dollars in investments each year for this population equal to the cost of what it takes to operate one Aircraft carrier. The two non-profits leading the Campaign: YouthBuild, USA; and The National Youth Employment Coalition were listed as the Best Charities in the U.S. in 2002 by Worth magazine.

Spokesperson. Assist the Campaign in identifying a National spokesperson for the campaign. This person should have credibility with a broad group of constituents.

Be more active at reaching out to youth through personal appearances, positive lyrics, and PSAs that provide good information to young people about how to place themselves on a pathway to long-term success.

Adopt a local programs, drop a few more positive hints, mentor a young person in need of a strong adult role model, help fund programs and services.

Produce more uplifting and inspiring music with a message that will promote the life, freedom and future economic opportunity of youth; not the bad information that takes away from it.

Call YDRF to find out about other ways to get involved.

While many in the hip-hop community do something for the community. We are not moved. It is far less than what their vast resources allow them to do. It is time for the hip-hop industry to move past vanity charity. If they truly want to claim the streets; it time they pay their dues to the streets. The Disposable Heroes of Hip-Hop are not disposable. For many of us, they are our past. For all of us, they are our future. It’s time for the Hip-Hop Nation to stand up in unity against disposing our Hip-Hop Heroes and take the necessary steps to ensure that these young people have options beyond the streets.

Being Born In the generation of Hip Hop and what it’s meant to all of us is a beautiful thing.

Being Born In the generation of Hip Hop and what it’s meant to all of us is a beautiful thing. Remember when it was wrong to color outside the lines, to talk different, look different or to disagree with the mass? Well no longer is that a factor my people. As a matter of fact hip hop is the all inclusive, all expense paid trip into your own uniqueness. So much so that it can be a downright religion, (and is to some). One where everyone brings their own flavor to the table to shine amongst peers for the sake of downright blacksheepedness. Thass right I said it, BLACKSHEEPEDNES. You see “hip hop” is just a phrase used to bring a sense of ease to those with fear for the unknown, treading lightly within the confines of the NORM. But the MOVEMENT of hip hop, is as global and inner as a mustard seed. Crazy duds, doos and phonetics are welcome here. Willing to express freely to the beat of their own individuality can be downright scary to the expresser as well as to the expresse….Yep, it meant scaling the boundaries passed down unto them from their forefathers and what we came to know as LAW.

In a way Hip Hop was birthed within an already hip hop nation. One that said, “I got a better way”, or “Let’s do it our way, in Order to form a more perfect Union“. But of course, there’s always a better way or areas that we could GROW in, so some kinks had to be worked out in this re-birth of a Hip Hop Nation. In this new NATION race, color, creed and other shallow measures of men don’t count. It’s what you bring to the MOVEMENT, how much light you shine from within that counts. Of course with such a movement great leaders will emerge, had to emerge and come to power. Individuals willing to stand alone and shine freely and desolate. Having the courage to be the OUTKAST because hey, I AM HIP HOP. I like my laces fat or whatever. Breeding within these individuals a characteristic needed to stand bold and make change. While at the same time recognizing the light in others and allowing them, in-COURAGE- ing them to shine bright. Knowing that in some cosmic way, that person’s light is their own…As in the words of le Snoopy Doggy Dogg when referring to Eazy-E’s dissin remarks toward Dre, “When You Dis Dre YOU Dis Yourself”.

So now that the Hip Hop Nation is growin up( But of course, with everso much more bountiful reaches we can aspire to), and these brave individuals are scatter throughout our places of power in the US, I feel a sense of great pride to have partaken in this Hip Hop 101, as a course in life. Also hopeful in my fellow classmates, as we keep propelling forward to make things BETTER. It is a movement that has shaped great individuals unafraid of change and courageous enough to stand alone with fire from within, thus giving a spark to us all that says “I like it better this way”, “I’ma try to find the BEST way”, or “Show me YOUR WAY”. -The Wicksta

Lyrics to possibly the best freestyle of the year:

I flow sickely, riding bumping old Biggie
Roll with me or lose weight, Nicole Richie
Fuck plat, if I don’t reach diamond fame
I treat a nigga face like that old Simon game
Figured out why men try us
Cause we O.D. on rims and thin tires
And for that we Len Bias
All it takes is a punch, you ain’t brave
You a punk
Put his family in boxes, meet The Brady Bunch
How y’all feel y’allselves, y’all should kill y’allselves
Us cowboys don’t need you, you Bill Parcells
And you ain’t gotta empty your pockets when the Ks out
Whatever you holding is mine, you my Paypal
See I don’t get how this guy is a threat
I’ll make his life inept for a pie to the neck
Ride or die, or do both, nigga, ride to the death
Or a cappella the whole left side of his chest
Not retiring, still got that pension pending
Tryna pop the hood and see the engine missing
Double barrel shotgun have ya men get missing
If she got pretty brown eyes and she in mint condition
Or have cigs in the car, you dissing moi?
Take the ratchet home, go home and just Chris Benoit
I tell a bird like it is, you promise the broad
I one line ‘em, you Isiah Thomas the broad
I could send a clip cartridge at a nemesis target
Or catch an R.O.R. on some Jena 6 charges
Nah, I put that thing away
I don’t even need a whole hair dew to clip em
All it take is one finger wave
Been in the bing for days, show you how I’m real
Come home to the truck with the Optimus Prime grill
Handed out crack, got the scene popping off
You not sleeping on em, them fiends is nodding off
For real… tell me how you a thug and you superman
Nigga I just seen you in the club doing the superman
A bunch of clowns holmes, all I need in this world
Is the pound, chrome, huxtable brownstones
Major paper, cake by the layers
If these dudes is live, I’m the created player
They callin’ themselves kings, when they so-so hot
Somethings wrong with that picture, must be photoshopped
I don’t promote violence, but when totting the thing, BLAM
Arms start waving like the Carlton Banks dance
When the tools go pop, it’ll move whole blocks
Coming round with ya dogs and get Cujo shot
These emcees is lame, I’m tryna be an emcee with brains
These niggas is emcee brains
Being nice, these rappers is far from being nice
I’m on a rooftop recording, niggas is being sniped
That’s light.. and shout to Ransom too
I won’t hold that shit against you, you did nigga
