The evolving nature of fashion and art provokes constant self reinvention. Issue 2 is titled Transformation for this reason. Under Hissa Igarashi‘s direction, TWELV meticulously deconstructed and reconstructed each subject of Issue 2 to create new interpretations of fashion and culture. These pages celebrate artists unafraid of reinvention, always expanding their art to find new meaning. TWELV donates 12% of proceeds to humanitarian aid, with the ultimate goal to raise enough to build a school in Malawi.

The subjects in Issue 2 offer an intensive look at the transformative process. In ‘Fire and Ice’ TWELV reconstructed the image of figure skater Johnny Weir by converting him into a painting evocative of Yayoi Kusama’s iconic polka dots. TWELV also interviewed prince of punk, Jean-Paul Gaultier and profiled hair god Luigi Murenu. Not to be outdone, Editor in Chief, Hissa Igarashi , contributed multiple editorials including a tribute to the late-night host and true original ‘Conan’ and a futuristic vision in ‘Transformers’.

We recently spoke to Twelv magazine who showed us their new film “A Woman Is A Gentleman.” Twelv have collaborated with Jean Paul Gaultier and created a mysterious fashion short. Editor in chief, Hissa Igarashi creatively directs the theme of “transformation” which is shot by cinematographer Maria Cabra.

The film is evidently inspired by Jean Luc Godard’s 1961 film A Woman is a Woman. Model, Marine Hein, transforms from the sweet ingénue she is to please everyone to the passionate femme fatale to please herself. Covered in Jean Paul Gaultier’s CLASSIQUE Eau de Parfume, lingerie, trench coat, heels and Lacrasia gloves, she embarks for an evening in New York.

The soundtrack is memorable as Brooklyn band Motive adds to the seductive mise-en-scène with a cover of the new wave classic “Psycho Killer” by Talking Heads. These four former jazz musicians united in New York to record their radio echo style rock and roll. TWELV’s FW 2012 issues features the band suited up with some leggy lasses for a slick editorial.

TWELV magazine’s first issue’s theme of “love” inspired editor-in-chief Hissa Igarashi to create an Alexander McQueen-like dress fashioned out of gummy bears. The upcoming issue will feature a new dramatic dress as well as other head turning creations. We previously included a piece in May on Twelv’s first issue featuring Mischa Barton.

For those females out there that have not seen Magic Mike yet, shame on you. Although some of the acting is bland, the performances and (lack of) costumes are not.

As such, reporters have been clamoring to interview the men of Magic Mike. Check out the behind-the-scenes stories from the men, including how they feel about thongs. Still, the ladies at The New Yorker wanted to see how this fared against real male strip clubs in New York. Check out what these strippers said about their fashion choices. More curious about how they physically look so good? One excited reporter was. Check out what she learned here.

Still, in the spirit of this movie, a reporter also managed to sit down with a financier-turned-male stripper for his take on the industry.

Helmut Newton is a well-known photographer for shooting super-sexy models from around the world, one of which is Jenny Shimizu. But, wait, I’m not done with Virgine. The other day, I’ve already forgotten which, it was Ford Men’s Jacob Dekat playing foil to Madonna‘s Material Girl. Today the celebrity drag riff riffs on with an editorial titled “The Icons” by Virgine creative director Hissa Igarashi and a host of photographers. The resultant story is a sort of Madame Tussauds meets magazine tear sheet wherein the likes of Michael Jackson, Audrey Hepburn, David Bowie, etc are brought to life (or something closely resembling life) on the page through styling and clever casting. The results are mixed, but on the whole come good though the presentation of Ford’s Inna Pilipenko as James Dean and Ford Women’s Allaire Heisig as Marlon Brando. Sadly, however there’s not a Bill Murray amongst the lot, but I reckon Inna and Allaire more than suffice.

Another day, another new magazine…such is the Groundhog Day existence of the Ford Models Blog editor. This periodical treadmill, however isn’t without its rewards — even Bill Murray derived some joy from his movie plot lot — which for today at least comes in the form of the inaugural issue of Virgine. What might have been just another ridiculously expensive exercise in how to spend loads of cash on lusciously printed paper stock, bound, and wrapped in plastic only to clutter the dusty floors of my favorite newsstand in the West Village* is made all the more meaningful with the feature of Ford Men’s darling new boy Jacob Dekat in an editorial by photographer Seiji Fujimori and stylist Hissa Igarashi. Jacob was last seen decadently lazing about the Chelsea Hotel in front of the lens of Steven Meisel for Vogue Italia, but for this Virgine story tries his hand at a bit of truth or dare. According to editor in chief Ryan Yoon this ambitious debut issue takes “virgin” as its theme. To that end the theme takes a literal and somewhat counterintuitive turn in a sprawling Madonna-inspired “Like a Virgin” editorial. Madonna’s second studio album, released in early November 1984, is nearly 27-years-old, not yet a 40-Year-Old Virgin, mind, but as virginal themes go, rings a bit too veteran. Jacob enters the story sitting propped up against a fire escape wearing a sleeveless leather shirt by Norisol Ferrari, denim vest by Levi’s, Lina Österman studded trousers, Lost Art belt, and Yohji Yamamoto for Dr. Martens boots. Jacob continues much in the same manner throughout the story as when he started it, which makes me think this Groundhog Day theme is a bit more pervasive than this post’s opening suggests. But, that’s a rabbit hole (groundhog burrow?) for another day. Jacob Dekat, take it away… .

*To be perfectly clear, Virgine is a proper magazine and no interloper.
