We have been given some exclusive coverage on the recent developments in special purpose acquisition companies and blank check companies from SPACupdate.com this morning.  Stream Global Services (AMEX: SGS), the business outsourcer brought public through SPAC Global BPO Services Co., has launched an offer to buy back its warrants from its blank check merger. As more than a dozen SPAC targets have leaped past their blank check’s IPO value, it is expected that investors will clamor to buy up warrants that offer big discounts on rising stock and that the companies affiliated with those blank checks will set out to curb dilution through buybacks.

Friday, China Holdings Acquisition Co. (AMEX: HOL) will have its deal vote to bring ceramic tile maker Jinjiang Hengda Ceramics Co., Ltd. The SPAC, earlier this week, entered into an agreement with forward contract champ Victory Park Capital Advisors to buy back 4 million shares at a small premium. The $150 million SPAC joins a long list of successful blank checks from this fall—among them, REIT-targeting vehicles Enterprise Acquisition Co. (AMEX: EST)—that used forward contracts to get their deals done.

New SPACs are headed to the market: 57th St. General Acquisition Co., using Morgan Joseph as its bookrunner, filed paperwork this week with regulators stating the intent to bring a $57 million blank check public. The SPAC, like GSME Acquisition Co., has a redemption threshold above the 80% mark. Warrant buyers should take note of the improved odds for a deal’s completion when making investment decisions, when both of these SPACs price. Both SPACs will trade OTC on the Bulletin Board.

Last week, it was revealed that Asia Special Situation Acquisition Co. (AMEX: CIO) lost not just its deal to buy an energy company, but its CEO as well, who resigned. The SPAC still has a few months to complete its deal, but the exit of its leadership and its one-time target spurning its offer to instead accept a $100 million investment elsewhere certainly does not bode well for the blank check.

Prospect Acquisition Co. (AMEX: PAX) completed its deal to buy California REIT Kennedy-Wilson Inc. last week. The SPAC’s merger was helped along, once again, by Victory Park Capital Advisors. China MediaExpress (AMEX: TMI) bought back almost $2 million in warrants, the SPAC revealed, in an effort to curb dilution. And China Fundamental Acquisition Co. (OTC: CFQCF) found a merger partner and might try to extend its deal deadline.

So… I’m still saved to H-HoL from soloing Bjrangrim last night, but it’s the double daily today. I’m planning on soloing the whole thing once instance lockouts reset in a bit.

I didn’t take any screenshots of General Bjarngrim last night, but I will when I go back later.

Here’s a couple of shots from the Volkhan fight I just finished up, though. It was tricky, because I didn’t understand the mechanics of his Shattering Stomp at first, so I was saving all my cooldowns for when it happened. Once it finally did, it took me by surprise and I missed bubbling through it, so that was the one death I had.

For anyone interested, it seems he only does his Shattering Stomp once he reaches ~20%, causing every add that has solidified to explode. It hurts. A lot. My only option was to bubble through it, so I had to make sure I didn’t have forbearance (which is trivial now that I have the tier – 9 four piece bonus.)

Anyway, here’s some pictures of the fun! Expect another update chronicling the whole instance later tonight!

(Oh, and excuse the UI… this was all done on my laptop, where I have virtually no addons except the 3 or 4 I find necessary to play.)

I was surprised just how easy these things were to solo. The trick is (obviously) to not kill too many at once, but even if you kill about 4-5 at a time, it’s only a few thousand damage.

Whelp. Here we go!

His adds were pretty tame, and nothing to write home about. Their melee swings occasionally leave a dot, which can either be cleansed off or ignored. Most of the damage you’ll have to deal with throughout this fight is the add’s Blast Wave, which happens fairly often. With anywhere from 4 to 12 adds up, it can start to make a decent dent in your HP that Seal of Light can’t overcome.

After awhile I had to move around a bit, since there were so many adds up (molten and solidified alike) that they began to situate themselves behind me, which would have been a big problem. I actually had to move to 3 different spots because of this.

Wednesday night I ran VoA 25 and 10.

The T8.5 gloves dropped in the 25 and I won the roll against another mage. Minor upgrade for me since I’m sporting the T8.

Broke down to the 10-man and the other mage left.

Realized after the fight that I was only a couple emblems away from being able to buy the T9 gloves – which have haste instead of hit. Nummy nummy haste.

Dammit.

Logged on Thursday evening with some time left on the item to be traded.

Pull up Recount and find the other mage’s name.

Pro-tip: If you ever want people to be able to find you, whisper you, mail you stuff – DON’T PUT FUCKING SPECIAL CHARACTERS IN YOUR NAME. If the name you want is already taken, suck it up and pick something else.

Spent a few minutes looking at Alt-characters on the web and finally figured out exactly which stupid variation of the letter A was in use.

One person that I am being barely nice to right now (and only because he gives me new dinosaur hatchlings as he gets extras) is a certain holy pally.

We were running Heroic Halls of Lighting because it was the daily.

We OWN that place; so ridiculously overpowered for it that the tank is auto-attacking while twiddling with some new adds and getting his settings just right.

So overpowered that when someone asks in guild chat what dropped off some boss kill somewhere, this pally decides that his time is better spent linking smart ass remarks in chat instead of healing.

The one time in the entire run I take random damage and it had to be right then. Damn straight you’re rolling for blame.

We did Ony last night, 3-shot her.

The first attempt was getting everyone in and acclimated – oh, that’s what is looks like, that’s what she does, that’s where the whelps come from, etc… didn’t quite make it to phase 3. (Throw more DoTs!)

The second attempt was a poor entrance. I think a healer got too far in or something, it was an immediate roflstomp on the main tank and it went downhill in about 20 seconds. So that one really doesn’t count.

The third attempt we decided to change our strategy from the first attempt during phase 2.

She stayed in the air too long in our first attempt because we had ranged working on the big adds that melee can’t get near (or shouldn’t anyway) and the whelps and trying to pick up Ony. It was spreading the ranged too thin and the melee were feeling a bit out of place.

Our successful attempt we had ranged on the big adds and then switched right back to Ony to get her grounded faster. This left the rogue and DK to deal with whelps. Even after the FoK nerf, rogues are still pretty good at that AoE shit. Nerf rogues more.

My damage between the 1st and 3rd attempt was really different due to not having the AoE whelp numbers. (Handle it!) Oh well. We killed her, that’s the important part.

She dropped nothing for me and I lost out on the bag, head, and gems.

After that we trundled over to 10 ToCr where we had left Anub waiting.

Bam!

He went down like he should have done Tuesday night.

Looking at our best attempt from Tuesday and comparing it to last night, we went from 14k raid DPS to 21.5K.

I guess that 7.5K makes a bit of a difference.

I think the biggest contributing factor to our not-success on Tuesday (failure sounds so negative, don’t harsh my mellow, man) was the healing set up. We went in to Anub with three healers on Tuesday – 2 pallies and a holy priest. Last night we took a resto shaman and the priest went disc. Both of these guys are awesome at what they do and gaining that extra DPS slot made it so much smoother.

Again no pretties for me.

But by this time with the heroic daily being completed, I did get enough emblems to snag my T9 gloves.

Now recalculating gems and swapping gear…

I was using RAWR blindly for equipping and gemming but it started doing some things that I thought were really odd.

I’m still using it to test gear and gem swaps, but I’m not using the Optimize feature as much.

As it turns out, I may come up with a completely different gear/gem set than the optimizer suggests, but I’ll still be within 10-20 DPS when doing it manually of what doing the weird shit it suggests will get me.

It’s really hot on spirit for me, most likely due to my 2-piece T9 bonus, but I’m looking to stack haste.

I need to drop even more hit (still over cap) and load up on haste like it’s candy. Swedish fish to be exact. Nummy.

Now off to track down some gems…

Ik heb het eigenlijk helemaal niet zo begrepen op paarden. Om de een of andere reden hebben deze machtige dieren mij nooit echt aangesproken. En de liefde voor het paard verging helemaal toen eind juli mijn twee dochters tijdens een paardenzegening bijna vertrappeld werden door een op hol geslagen trekpaard.

Maar een tijdje terug werd uw dienaar uitgestuurd naar een ruitertornooi. Stel je voor: Xray tussen vijfhonderd kwijlende viervoeters. Gelukkig viel er nog wat sfeer vast te leggen tijdens de wedstrijden.

Det var like før eg la om te vinterdekk i går. På Holsåsen var det visst 1 grad og lett regnvær. På Geilo sneik det seg ned mot 2 grader også. Jaggu, gøtt eg ikkje pakke vekk vinterdekka. Vel, vel! Hausten nærmer seg og det er mykje som sviv i skallen på ein enkel kar i frå Hol. Sumaren er kort, syng Tomas Ledin. Tomas har rett i det! Den er jo relativt kort, sammenligna med veten. I alle fall her oppe i fjella!

I sumar har me (Høve Støtt as) virkelig tatt fatt på det individuelle markedet på Geilo. Som opplevelsesprodusent. Brevandring og barneprogram har vøri ei svært velukka satsning. Me har snart hatt 60 gjester på breen. Det er me svært fornøgd med. I 2008 hadde med knappe 40. Og bresesongen er framleis ung…

Ellers er det slik, at august er starten for min offisielle blogging. Frå no, vil det bli skriverier i alle fall eit par gonger i veka. Og om du vil følgje med, så er du hjertelig velkommen til det.

Aller først no, vil det bli daglege rapporter med skjeldru i frå Cleveland, Ohio.

Fyrst og fremst! Stor og all mulig respekt til alle deltagere i Geilo 24. Bjørn med 23 runder, Tore med 25 runder. Håjkon med 35 og Bardøla Racing Team med 53 runder… ufattelig at dere orker og har hodet til dette. Grattis! Det kan vel hende at noen er ekstra sør i fue i dag, men det er vel verdt det tenker jeg!

Her er det mandag! Med fokus på sommer og trafikk på Geilo stasjon. Det er også litt deilig å kjenne at det er normal temperatur ute. Da beveger jo også turisten seg litt mer. Og det gleder vi oss til.
