Grensoverschrijdende winkelcriminaliteit kost Belgische winkels jaarlijks een kwart miljard euro. De schade voor heel Europa loopt op tot 7,6 miljard euro. Dat blijkt uit een onderzoek waaraan Buurtsuper.be meewerkte, de bij UNIZO aangesloten federatie van zelfstandige buurtsupers. Het Nederlandse Europees Parlementslid Jeanine Hennis Plasschaert ontving vandaag als eerste het rapport. Alle Belgische Europese Parlementsleden ontvangen het ook. Het rapport bepleit immers een Europese aanpak door justitie en politie van dit probleem. Nu opereren de diensten van elk land nog teveel in gespreide slagorde. Dat terwijl in België bij voorbeeld 20 tot 25% van het banditisme in België grensoverschrijdende criminaliteit is. Twee derde daarvan gebeurt door rondtrekkende bendes uit het voormalige Joegoslavië, Roemenië en Albanië. Zij zijn vooral actief in de grootstedelijke gebieden. Zij opereren vanuit eigen land en keren zij op één dag terug (hit and run) of verblijven tijdens de operaties bij kennissen of familieleden hier. Het gaat vooral over georganiseerde winkeldiefstal, ramkraken of hold-ups en fraude met bankkaarten. Buurtsuper.be pleit onder meer voor een Europees overlegplatform voor de KMO, naar het voorbeeld van het goedwerkende Belgische partnerschap.

On Friday 6th November 2009 my lawyer is meeting with Woolworth’s new lawyer.  You see Woolworth’s sacked their other lawyer, she was a nasty sour woman who thought it was her right to discriminate against me and kept attacking me personally.  Woolworth’s representative was no better, I am expecting a written apology from her.

Looks like now my case may not be going to court, the Supreme Court no less.  I wanted my day in court however if they offer me a reasonable sum of money, I will walk away with that.  I just want to know what price can you put on a person’s life?  As a mother my children came very close to not having a mother anymore.  We will see what Woolworth’s really think is the value of a life.

I may have survived the knife physically, aimed at my face, however how does anyone rate the mental health of a person.  I have seen 2 psychiatrist, and really they only ask you a bunch of questions and then write a report.  These professionals have no idea and I mean no idea the destruction to my whole life from this incident, yet the word ‘incident’ can never encompass the real impact.

I am hoping to give our youngest child a big birthday party, however I will say more on that and why after the 6th November 2009.   As it is with these big companies, they dig for information and lie about things just to blame the effects of the hold up on something in my past.

It is all about money, not human life.  As I have learnt, very much, there are so many more aspects to life than the physical being, oh I know about the spiritual.  I have lived a life no matter what was thrown at me, I pulled myself up by my boot straps and kept going.  This was the most difficult thing I have ever had to endure and I am struggling to get up.

Internet, I’d like to call out a certain New York Taco Bell manager for making a very bad management move. And on the other side of the same coin, I’d like to commend the man he refused to give a job to. This man, notably, held the cashier up with a gun before making his way to the manager’s office to ask for a job and left without taking any money.

Now, I understand the economic climate is far from ideal, and people aren’t exactly hiring these days. Apparently, so did the armed man, because that was a hell of an application. He made it very clear that he’s dedicated, hard-working, and self-motivated.

He also apparently knows how to handle a gun, an important skill to have when working at Taco Bell

I think it’s safe to say manager made a bad call, because this man is exactly the guy I want serving me at Taco Bell. Sure, he’d start out on the wrong foot with at least one coworker, but the man deserves a job.

I stumbled across this extraordinary video today and thought to share it here for a number of reasons. For those of you who train in self defence or some sort of self protection system you will probably watch the following video and say what I did… “Shit, he should have seen that coming!”. It is however, quite common that attacks such as the one in the video below, occur often in some way, shape or form.

So, having watched the video, let’s analyse exactly what went wrong here:

• First and foremost, awareness was definitely on the low here. The victim in this case didn’t have the “red light” flashing as soon as someone, especially of the appearance and nature of the attacker as so far as image is concerned, circled the platform anxiously
• Secondly, as the attacker entered the victims space there was no change in physiology of the victim (which ideally should have occurred much sooner). This mean that the posture was not one of confidence or awareness
• The victim probably should have stood up at some point and assumed a confident posture which included the fence, when in such a situation
• When someone approaches you, don’t sit so complacent as the victim did in this case. Standup or fence up while talking to protect yourself from the bottle to the head, clearly visible as a weapon in this case
• The attacker was holding a bottle, appeared anxious, was pacing and looking around (checking for the train to run across the track and if anyone was around), had no shirt off and looked as though he is apart of a gang. Image does matter and contrary to people saying you shouldn’t judge someone on their appearance… you should
• Can you notice anything else now that we are on a roll… Start to become an analyst of violence, it may save you one day

It really wasn’t Takashi Owata’s day when he decided to rob the Sunkus convenience store in Fukushima. Hmm, not when a 59 year old female was working there anyways. No one was going to do no robbing on her shift. When Owata demanded money the woman hurled abuse at him, screaming “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Despite Owata wielding a stick at the now angry woman, she continued to verbally abuse him, so much so, he eventually  left, pulled out his cell phone, rang the police and confessed to trying to rob the store. He then walked 400m to the police station and handed himself in. Ah, the old “mamma knows best”,  guilt trip works every time! Even Dr Phil would whip your butt for not sticking up for yourself…wimp!

Madalas ako ang nauunang magising sa amin ‘pag WEEKDAYS pero nung Martes (ata) lahat ng tao sa amin gising na. Then nakita ko yung hipag ko sa bakante naming kuwarto na nakahiga at tulala sa kawalan.

Na-holdap/ nanakawan pala siya sa bahay nila nung madaling araw na yun. Natutulog daw silang mag-iina ( nasa abroad kuya ko) nang may kumatok sa maliit na bintana sa kanyang ulunan. Nung tumingala siya nakatutok na raw ang isang lumang revolver sa kanya. Pagkatapos, pinakuha sa kanya yung pink niyang wallet. Sabi ng hipag ko, dalawa pa nga raw ang wallet niya- isang pamekeng leather at yung pink wallet niya. Siguro daw tiniktikan nung bumili siya ng bigas.

Nasabi ko na lang na “buti sa luma ng revolver hindi ka nalaglagan ng kalawang, putik o agiw”. Hehehe! Ikako sa bagay mahirap din ipagsapalaran yung buhay nila sa lumang revolver na yun (natamaan ka na ng bala, matetetano ka pa – double dead yun). In the end, lumipat na lang sila ng bahay. Ang moral lesson dun ay magsara ng ilaw pag matutulog na at laging siguruhing nakakandado ang mga bintana at pintuan.

Ako man ay naka-experience na ng akyat-bahay. Ganito ‘yun… tinining-tining) …

Umuwi ng province ‘yong kuya at nanay ko. So ako lang, yung ate ko at anak niya at isa ko pang kuya na lasing that time ang nasa bahay. Nagpupuyat ako noon sa pagko-computer, maya-maya (around 3 or 4 am) tumahol yung aso namin. Paulit-ulit kaya naman sa pika ko, sinita ko (“hey you white doggy, shut up or I’ll kick your ass!). Ang napansin ko lang ay naka-focus yong aso sa harap ng bahay ng kapit-bahay namin.

Pagpasok ko, tuloy pa rin yung aso sa kakatahol pero nag-tone down na siya. After noon hindi na ako mapakali, punta ako sa kuwarto ko o sa kuwarto ng ate ko, tuloy sa pagko-computer, at punta ako sa CR namin na kung mamalasin ay nasira yung gripo.

Pinilit kong magawa yung gripo at nagawa ko naman gamit ang aking magic plies. Then punta ulit ako sa kuwarto na ewan naman kung bakit naiwan kong nakabukas yung ilaw dun. Tas may kinuha ako sa wallet ko na nilapag ko sa mesa ko na malapit sa bintana. (Eh that time sira yung lock ng bintana ko.)

Nung bumalik ako sa harap ng computer (around 5am), narinig ko maya-maya na may sumigaw. Pagtingin ko sa bintana, nakita ko yung kapit-bahay namin, hinabahabol yung naka-all black na magnanakaw at natalon nun yung gate namin na parang si spiderman.

Sa huli napag-alaman namin na napasok nung magnanakaw yung bahay nung kapit-bahay namin at nakuha ang kanilang cp. Tinanggal isa-isa yung salamin sa kanilang bintana nang hindi nila nalalaman kahit 2 pa naman silang lalaki (sila lang naman yung kainuman ng lasing kung kuya).

Nalaman lang namin na nakawan din yung ate ko nung makita ang kitchain niya sa bag na naiwan ng magnanakaw (nandoon din yung patalim n’ya). Sinungkit yung bag niya at saka kinuha yung wallet niya doon. Biro nga namin ay buti hindi nasungkit pati yung puwit niya nang sungkitin ng magnanakaw yung bag niya na inilagay niya sa likuran niya.

Alam n’yo maraming “mabuti na lang” ako sa araw na yun.

1. buti nagpuyat ako kasi kung hindi baka na-ransack na yung bahay namin. Pwede niyang pasukin yun through sa kuwarto ko kung tutulog-tulog ako.

2. buti hindi ako nilusob nung magnanakaw at saksakin ng patalim niya nung sitahin ko yung aso namin.

3. buti nasira yung gripo kasi at least siguro naalarma yung magnanakaw at ikot ako ng ikot. (magnanakaw: naku may magic plies ‘tong babaeng ito!?

4. at kahit naiwan ko yung wallet ko sa bintana na binuksan niya. P200 lang ang nakuha niya roon kasi buti ulit, hindi ko pa pinapapalitan yung tseke ko doon. (eh $1 million laman nun… tienes! lang).

Mula noon sobrang ingat na ako. Kahit antok na antok ako, tatayo ako para siguraduhin ko na nakasara na ang mga pintuan at bintana. Saka isa pang tip, maging alerto kayo sa mga pinapapasok ninyo sa bahay ninyo, lalo na doon sa hindi ninyo kilala. Kasi doon nadali yung kapit-bahay namin at mag-alaga ng aso hehehe

We always like to pass along success stories like this one from the La Crosse (WI) Tribune.  Custom Alarm provides the alarm system and monitoring at the Co-op mentioned in the story and dispatched the police who caught the robber.  We don’t always get the bad guys, but this just goes to show that alarm systems are an important piece of the crime prevention puzzle.

The New York Times is carrying a very thought-provoking story about shop owners in New York who kill robbers who hold up their stores. A lot of them seem to never get over it. From the article:

An electronics store owner who shot and killed two robbers in a gunfight regretted none of it but his scars. A pet store owner who did the same and briefly became a neighborhood hero, closed his shop, moved on to other work and tried to forget.

A jeweler spent the rest of his life wishing he had never chased after two men who robbed his Brooklyn store. He told his family that he meant only to wound them when he pulled the trigger. Insurance, he lamented, would have covered the theft.

Call me a sucker, but I love writing and I love bringing you guys the latest on great Hip-Hop. Here is a video of two powerful ass emcees performing live on stage. Torae & Marco Polo invite Masta Ace (top 5 for sure) on stage at Blaq Poet’s album release party to perform the track “Hold Up” from their recent LP Double Barrel.
