It’s also difficult to be able to tell how much of the character is indelibly Audrey Hepburn.  Since I have read the book and seen the film umpteen times, I find myself wondering how to portray her without imitating the actress Hepburn.

First of all, Capote wrote about her as being in the 1940’s.  The film is in the 1960’s.  She is not Audrey Hepburn, but the iconic image of Holly Golightly is very much of what Hepburn created. Almost inseparable.  But there is a part of Holly’s story that can be told from the blending of the two.  At least that is how I see it and how Holiday Golightly is coming alive for me.  So I opted for a darker skin tone, her original era, and of course, there will be many storylines that were not written about that I have no control over in SL, but can only play it as it comes goes within Holiday’s realm of existence.

She now has her flat, she is living in NYC, she is gathering a wardrobe and beginning to express herself as Holly does.  While I find it difficult to separate the book Holly from the film Holly, I also find myself getting entangled into her character.  I really enjoy that part, even though it leaves me feeling confused sometimes.

Some of the most unexpected things keep happening to my Holiday, and how it connects to her personal story is amazing.  Sometimes I think that something along the lines of fate are taking a guiding hand to it.  I had found the sim she is living in and fell in love with it long before Holly came into being.  Now she actually lives there!  There is a bar that works perfectly as the local bar she would hang out at and knew the bartender well.  It also ironically doubles as the strip club in the film scene:

Here is a photo of the film Holly riding on a bicycle…just yesterday my Holly was  given a bicycle! Neither the bar nor the bicycle were expected (the bar was recently created)…they just did came along as though it was a part of Holiday existence.

As I have been collecting photo’s and quotes, I notice how some of this is happening without my direct intention.  I absolutely love that. 

  I have been thinking, now that my Holiday has found a flat, a somewhat similar job as the original Holly had (innuendo) and getting the wardrobe worked out, it is time to create her reason for being.  It is what the jewellery store Tiffany’s meant to her. 

I don’t want to own anything until I know I’ve found the place where me and things belong together.  I’m not quite sure where that is just yet.  But I know what it’s like…. It’s like Tiffany’s…. I have been searching SL for a store window that my Holly can use as her go-to place when she feels the mean reds come on.  I have the donut and sunglasses ready…

So far, nothing has the right feel too it.  The search continues.  In the meantime, her story and her life is coming into being and I am having a blast with it.  My only issues are computer related, hopefully I can manage a new computer by the end of summer.  Totally skint for now, I cannot even afford to buy Holiday items until next month. 

I decided to really give Holiday a chance with dark hair.  This is a very different approach for me, as I tend to stick with concepts similar to me, blonde hair and blue eyes.  But I am intrigued with this skin and the dark hair seems to bring something new and exciting to my eyes.  I kept feeling like I was seeing her with some Hawaiian in her, making me feel really melancholy for missing Hawaii so much.  Her skin is lovely, I marvel at how well the artist gave her a very realistic colouring.

After a massive try on with the styles I already had in my inventory, I knew that modern hair wasn’t it.  I knew about this style from previous hunts, so I decided to go for it and wow, it was fabulous!  Being solid and without all the massive wispiness of so many of the hairstyles, it moved well, soft and subtly over her shoulders.  It gave her a classy look.  I sorted all the blonde hair back to the storage folders and sorted the black into 1940, 1950 and 1960 folders to keep the search pinpointed.  I really like some of the 1960 styles, but right now, I cannot seem to part with this one.  I did pay for the 1940’s updo style too, the one I had in cinnamon that was free.  Worth it, because it really does keep the authentic look.

At first, with this darker skin tone, I was worried that I would lose Holiday as Holly Golightly.  But in only a few days of trying on clothes and of course, getting the flat, a more dimensional Holiday emerged.  She intensified, became truly sophisticated.  I noticed this morning as I moved all the photo’s of her in pale freckled skin to a storage folder, how insipid she seemed.  Not the self assured woman I see here in her sultry self.  This I think will be important because Audrey Hepburn’s portrayal gave Holly the sophistication that the book Holly did not have.  Yet, I really like that between the book Holly and the film Holly, there is the essence of Holiday and my own twist to blend them together.  Both are in my favourite era’s and very much a part of me.

I also noticed that this new shade of elegance showed clearly while dancing.  She lost the snooty look and appeared to be enjoying dancing for the sensuality.  It’s hard to describe the difference, but it was clearly there.  I had gone hunting for freebies and found a red velvet dress that I had discarded for her during her fairy days, but now, it was eye popping:

  In fact, I do believe red will be her colour, as I see how she comes into her own in red.  The woman in red.  Another connection to my past.  The red flower in her hair, like Billy Holiday.  Yes, I can muse on endlessly.  Something feels like it is flowing and smoothing out.  Much more than when she was trying to be a fairy and pale and lost.

Holiday has been dancing a couple of times at the Tropicana, and each time she was dressed in her 1940’s style.  This is completely different than anyone else, the women here all dress in micro mini dresses, latex or jeans and bras.  I feel sad about the modern sexual look, it has no beauty to it.  I realise that while dancing to Latin music is so much fun, the subtle look is lost there and that Holiday does not fit in.  Sad, because I can remember the Latin based films in the 1940’s when America was trying to build up a relationship to Latin America.  Holly in the film tried to marry a Latin, so there is an element to her story here, and I will see where it will take her.

I had her go to Frank’s Place and it was even worse.  So filled with undulating women in their stilettos and high updo’s and extreme ball gowns.  Poor guys dancing with them were enveloped in their massive skirts.  Holiday didn’t fit in here either, she would be more at home in a tiki hut bar or a swing lounge with a couple of sailors.  In fact, in all her searches yesterday, she found that there is only a small handful of places she really belongs and they have no people present in them.  Still, if it has to be that way, so be it.

When she arrived back at the flat, she felt completely at home.  It was funny when Robert mentioned that there was never any real privacy in SL, that there were cams watching….I had not realised that caming was done here, but poor little Holiday doesn’t have a life worth watching.  Her whole world is still pretending and within her mind.  With no one or no sim to react to, the story remains completely within her and our combined imagination.

I now have a place to change clothes, spend time while listening to my favourite music and well…beside myself in the gratitude of someone welcoming me by letting me use a room he created.

The Holidays with Daughter Timmy & Roger have been a strange experience in what working Americans, the 99ers, and now more impoverished than ever Homeless and subsitence only survivors of this Depression.  In dealing with recently diagnosed Diabetes and a couple of Cardiac issues this past year has provided some rather strange twists in life and concsciousness.

There aren’t as many Christmas Lights strung about this year as last and from a decade’s ago memory only a smattering are providing bonuses to the Electric Company.

Food stamps are not a guarantee of abolition of hunger in America.

The Kabuki plays on in Washington, DC as America’s Main Street braces for the abject poverty coming with pay-check-to-pay-check living ending on Wednesday and the next check arrives 3 days later on Friday.  That is if one is lucky enough to be employed, has finances enough to ride out this storm with everything the US People are suckered into now.

Would we have peace on Earth?

The Corporate Fascists are getting fatter on the war profiteering.  They have a Mercenary Military now that began on US Soil and continue to use the US Military to their profit as we face the prosperity vacuum of $2 Billion a week in AfPak (It’s two wars; yes Two Wars in ONE!)

Somalia, Yemen and the Spooks doing God only knows what in the name of the USA and kept secret from we who pay for it when others profit.  You know that the God-Almighty Profit drives these Ferenge merchants of death and destruction.

Still from somewhere deep inside and perhaps more so because of the current conditions in America the NOT Free the “Christmas Spirit” erupts with ease.  We celebrate the America Family Norman Rockwell style from Ozzie & Harriet pretenses and move through the experiences of tradition.  The kitchen, that individual experience of the American “land of plenty” celebrated and pig-skins kicked about for male bonding while the women tend to their chores.  The extended family comes together for a brief peace.
