Biography

Early life
Mendes was born in Miami,[1] to Cuban-American parents and was raised in Los Angeles by her mother after her parents’ divorce; Mendes has said that her mother “suffered so much to make my life OK” during her early years.[1] Her father was a car salesman and her mother, also named Eva, is now an elementary school principal. She is the youngest of four children (she has two sisters and a brother). She was raised Roman Catholic and aspired to be a nun.[2] As a child, Mendes was teased about her “buck teeth“.

As a child she lived in Miami, Florida, and Los Angeles, California. She never saw herself as an actress while she was young and decided to pursue other interests. She attended Hoover High School in Glendale and later attended California State University, Northridge to study marketing, but dropped out after meeting boyfriend Zedrick Threatt, who helped her to begin an acting career. She studied with Ivanka Chubbuck.

Career
One day she caught the eye of an agent who convinced her to pursue acting more steadily. Mendes worked her way up through commercials to music videos (including an appearance in Will Smith’s video “Miami” and the Pet Shop Boys music video for “Se a vida é (That’s the way life is)” in 1996 and Aerosmith’s video “Hole in My Soul” in 1997) to guest roles in soap operas and supporting film roles. Her first film appearance was in the direct-to-video Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror.

She received her first big-screen break when she appeared in the award-winning and critically-acclaimed Training Day. That performance led to roles in Stuck on You, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and as the female lead in the comedy Hitch opposite Will Smith. Her role in Once Upon a Time in Mexico also gave her a nomination at the Teen Choice Awards. Mendes has also been in commercials for Gushers, Revlon, and Levi’s. Mendes costarred in Ghost Rider with Nicolas Cage, and most recently starred alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Wahlberg, and Robert Duvall in the film We Own the Night.

Along with acting, Mendes is employed by Revlon Cosmetics as an international spokeswoman. She joins such elite actresses and models as Julianne Moore, Halle Berry and Cindy Crawford, who appear in Revlon’s television and print ads. She is also a passionate supporter and active participant in Revlon’s fight against breast cancer.

“Maxim” ranked her #7 in its 2007 Hot 100 issue. Mendes also made her second Maxim cover in the November 2007 issue.

Mendes, despite resisting offers from Playboy, appeared naked in Flaunt Magazine. Although her breasts weren’t exposed, readers did get to see her bare back and buttocks. Mendes said about the shoot, “I actually did a little nude shot. You won’t see anything. I was covering myself… but I love ‘Flaunt.’ I think their artwork is some of the best artwork out there as far as photography is concerned, so I took it off. I felt really comfortable, it was fun. There’s something really liberating about it.”

In December 2007, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) used a nude photo of Mendes for their anti-fur campaign alongside the tagline “Fur? I’d rather go naked.” Mendes is also a spokesmodel for the 2008 Calendar of Campari, inspired in fairy tales, by photographer Marino Parisotto.[5]

In 2008, Mendes starred in The Women, a comedy ensemble film featuring Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Debra Messing. The film, which was produced by Victoria Pearman and Mick Jagger of Jagged Films, Bill Johnson of Inferno Productions, and English, is being released by Picturehouse, a joint venture of HBO and New Line Cinema.

Mendes was voted as No. 4 in the 2008 edition of AskMen.com’s Top 99 Most Desirable Women.

Mendes was announced as the international face of Australia’s 30 Days of Fashion & Beauty event in July 2008. She will make guest appearances in that country at the month-long festival in September.

On September 4th, 2008, Mendes announced she was launching a line of bed linens that will hit Macy’s stores later in the month.[8] In October, she will also be touring various Harrod’s stores across Europe to promote Calvin Klein’s Seductive Comfort line of lingerie.

Mendes is in negotiations to star in the American remake of acclaimed Mexican film Y Tu Mamá También.

Personal life
It was reported on January 31, 2008 Mendes has been in a rehab facility in Utah to battle a substance abuse problem for several weeks.[10] Her representative told TMZ that she has been “working hard for the past year and made a positive decision to take some much-needed time off to proactively attend to some personal issues that, while not critical, she felt deserved some outside professional support. Out of respect for Eva’s privacy, we do not wish to discuss further details.”

In August 2008, Mendes said she will not hesitate to get plastic surgery done when her perfect figure starts to sag.

During the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City in September, Mendes admitted to having had sex in all 50 states, although she stressed it was not with 50 different men. She said, “A lot of it was on a road trip I took when I was younger, Maybe it was the clear air, or the quiet, or the endless sky. Whatever it was, it was really, really good.”[13] Mendes said her best sex was in Arizona and Colorado and her worst sex was in Alaska; she said, “I’d really like a do-over on that state,” and suggested her publicists, “sponsor a trip for me there for that purpose.”

However, a representative for Ms. Mendes’ quickly refuted this report as “complete fabrication”[13] and “entirely untrue”[13] adding, “Ms. Mendes wasn’t even present at the event at which these comments were supposedly made. The entire thing is absurd and offensive.”

Lipsi is a small island about 16 square kilometers that belongs to the Greek islands group of the Dodecanese.Lipsi lies east of the island of Patmos and north of Leros and has a port, with the blue-domed church of Agios Ioannis and the Nikiforion museum. The island has a surface of 35 sq.km. It has approximately 600 people and its own municipality.Lipsi island includes a large number of small, uninhabited islands (Aspronissia, Arefousa, Refoulia, Kalavres, Fragos, Kalapodi) which have a large marine life nature including  Monk Seal.

The island of Lipsi is hilly especially on the west side. The highest point of the island is Skafi (277 m). A large part of the island is used for the hats of goat herds. There are sheep and cows on the island. There is still only agriculture (wheat crop), viticulture and vegetable. Lipsi has some good beaches, including Platis Yialos, Katsadia, Choklakoura, Kamares, Lendou and the very nicely landscape of Monodendri. Tourism started especially since the eighties and had a strong growth. The tourist industry plays an important role in the economy than before. Most of the tourists are Italians and many of them bought summer houses on the island. The hotels in Lipsi are few and most of the accommodation are rooms and studios and some apartments. One of the most bigest hotels is the Aphroditi Hotel in Liendou beach.

The island has ferry connections with Athens and the rest of the dodecanese islands.

Symi or Σύμη lies about 9 miles west of the Turkish mainland, 23 miles north of the island of Rhodes and nearly 400 km southeast of Athens.
Symi has a very rugged coastline and a length of 11.5 kilometers at a maximum width of 9 km. It is mountainous and up to 616 meters high.

Most of the nearly 3,000 inhabitants live in Symi town in the north of the island, fishing, agriculture and the increasingly tourism are the main income of the island, a few decades ago sponge diving was also an income for the islanders.

In addition to various other monasteries and chapels (of which there are about 200 to Symi there) is located in the south of Rhodes from the regular tour boats started coming Panormitis the most famous monastery on the island. It is dedicated to St. Michael and houses a small museum.

The larger towns of the island are linked by paved roads. There is a local bus route to the port (Gialos) with the upper part of the city of Symi (Chorio) and the next Pedi Bay. In addition, the season runs a daily bus between the port and the monastery Panormitis. There are some taxis and rental cars and provider of mopeds. In summer there are also several taxi boats to the individual bays.

Drinking water is transfer several times a week by tanker from Rhodes and delivered into the local pipeline fed, because Symi not own any freshwater sources. Consequently, especially in the summer season water is very scarce. This is also evidenced by the high price of water significantly: a cubic meter of water costs five euros good (this is almost ten times the price, which can be found on Rhodes . Among other things, there are on the island, no pool.

On Paros island the visitor will find many  sandy beaches some of them are, the beach of St. Anargyroi, sand with a few trees, located east of Naoussa at a distance of 200 meters around.

Kaminia is a great beach, in the northern edge of the Gulf of Parikia. It follows the beach Marcello. Very close, the cape of St. Fokas, is the cave Archilogou a big hole in the almost vertical coast. The beach of Krios, 2 kms distance from the centre of Parikia, on the north side of the Gulf of Parikia, is a great beach with crystal-clear sea. There are restaurants and bars.

Livadia It is a popular and busy beach on the north side of Parikia, the position of Livadia. Extensive beach with crystal water, organized tours. At length, find shops of every kind.
Logaras
Alongside Naoussa is the vast beach of Logara designated with blue flag and is ideal for swimming,and all kind of water sports. There are hotels, rented rooms, cafes, restaurants and bars on the beach.
The beach Langeris (1.5 km from the Naoussa), is beautiful, quiet beach with fine sand and sand dunes. You can get there by boat from Naoussa, the bus until the public street or at your own means of transport.
Polyvoui beach, south of Parikia (2.5 km from the centre of Parikia), with organized tours, famous among the young people. There are restaurants and bars.You can get there by bus until the public street or at your own means of transport.
 
Souvlia is a Great beach, in the northern edge of the Gulf of Parikia. It followed the beach Marcello. Very close, the cape of St. Phocas, is the cave Archilogou a big hole in the almost vertical coast. Here, according to tradition, looking for inspiration, the great poet of ancient times. Η Λέρος είναι ένα όμορφο πράσινο νησί. Η Λέρος βρίσκεται στα βόρεια Δωδεκάνισα και δεν απέχει πολύ από την Πάτμο Κω και Ρόδο ,απο τη Λέρο μπορειτε να επισκευθειτε και νησιά των Κυκλαδων οπως  Μύκονος και Σύρος. Στο Παντέλι το γραφικό ψαροχώρι της Λέρου θα φάτε φρέσκο ψάρι και χταποδάκι στα κάρβουνα στα παραλιακά ταβερνάκια και καφενεία που εχουν τα τραπεζάκια τους κυριολεκτικά πανω στο κύμα.
Για κολύμπι και βουτιές ο Βρομόλιθος , το Παντέλι, η Γούρνα , ο Ξυρόκαμπος, το Μπλεφούτι, τα Δυο Λυσγάρια. Για πρωινο καφε στα καφενεια της Αγιας Μαρίνας και για βραδινά στο Παντέλι, Λακκί η Αλιντα η Λέρος εχει να προσφέρει ικανοποιήσεις και στον πιο απαιτιτικό επισκέπτη.
Μην παραλείψετε μια επισκεψη στο πολεμικο μουσειο της Λερου στη Μερκια οπου σε ενα Τουνελ απο τον Β’Παγκοσμιο πόλεμο θα βρειτε ενθύμια απο την 50 ημερη μάχη της Λέρου.

In Leros the visitor will find many tasty and  traditional recipes. Lamb, pork, chicken, goat, beef,  and other meat products like sausages are served in the local taverns and restaurants. Meat is another main dish of every home in Leros but also in all local eateries. In Platanos and Agia Marina you will taste the typical Greek Souvlaki with pita bread.
 
The women of Leros know how to charm your taste with their cooking and especially with their various vegetable dishes cooked with a lot of olive oil . All kinds of fresh vegetables can be found on Leros like , squashes, fresh beans, aubergines, tomatoes, okras and green paprika  are some of the basic ingredients of the local vegeterian food.

With a population of  17,000 inhabitants, Limnos  is the eighth largest island of Greece with an area of 438 square kilometers. Located in the northern Aegean Sea, the Thracian Sea, between the Mount Athos, Samothrace, Imvros and Lesbos. Together with Agios Efstratios aparts the province of Limnos that belongs to the prefecture of Lesvos. Capital and main port of Lemnos is Myrina,  named after the wife of the first king of the island, Thoantas. Until 1955 the Myrina was named Kastro, a name which prevailed during the late Byzantine period and even  today is called informally by the locals.
 Limnos island is volcanic. Although it has no forests, there are fertile plains cultivated with cereals and vines. Limnos has beautiful and clean beaches and is ideal for quiet vacations. The main occupations of the residents are livestock, agriculture and fisheries. Also, tourism, trade and shipping. 

Ferry connections. The company Saos Ferries connecting the island with the Attica prefecture with three services a week to and from Lavrio (average duration of travel 9 hours). Schedules are also to and from Kymi, Agios Efstratios and Nea Moudania. Some greek ferries, however, do not run all year around so before travelling it would be wise to contact the local port authorities and travel agencies. Nel Lines connects with 2 services per week  the island with Thessaloniki (8 hours), Mytilini (5 hours), Chios (8 hours), and Piraeus (18 hours). The summer duration of the voyage from Piraeus has been reduced, thanks to the fast M/V Aeolos Kenteris. 

 Limnos airport has the largest runway in Greece and is one of the biggest airports in the Aegean. There are two daily schedules of Olympic Airways to and from Athens and 6 times a week to and from Thessaloniki. There is also 5 times a week a barren route line connecting Limnos, Mitilini, Chios,  Samos and Rhodes.

Naxos is the largest island in the Cyclades islands. The coastline of the island is about 45 nautical miles and to the extent reaches approximately 443 square kilometres. Naxos is located right in the middle of the Aegean in the eastern Cyclades having to Mykonos to the north Amorgos to the east and Ios island to the south.

Naxos is a rich geological park of quartz rocks from non-exploited yet. The rocks are mainly quartz and marbles in alternating layers with granite blocks, relatively near to the city of Naxos and the north west part of the island, mainly sandstones exist in the peninsula of Stilis. In general Naxos has an oval shape and geophysical is distinguished as a mountainous island.

Naxos played an important role in the Cycladic culture, which seems to be started and developed between 5000 BC and 3000 BC Among the important changes that arose at that time was the development of shipping and the use of copper, ceramic and marble processing. In many locations on the island have been found many Cycladic figurines and other findings of the Cycladic culture who are now on display in Naxos Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens, also a small number of them in the archaeological museum in Apiranthos. The archaeological museum of Naxos has the second largest collection of Cycladic findings after the archaeological museum in Athens.

Skiathos is a small island in the Aegean Sea, which belongs to the Sporades islands. Located near Skopelos, Skiathos is the westernmost of this island group . The mainland of Greece, along with Magnesia are to the west. Its name goes back to ancient times.

The island has the city of Skiathos and the communities Koukounaries, Kanapitsa, Vromolimnos and Troullos. The city of Skiathos is a port that houses small boats and ferry services from where they connect to Skopelos, Volos, Agios Konstantinos and the rest of Greece.

The municipality of Skiathos includes the islands of Tsougria and Repio, and has a total area of 49898 square kilometres. Its major cities are Skiathos  Kalývia , Troullos, and Koukounaries .
Much of the island is covered by forests. Around the villages and the city of Skiathos are farmland. Forests are pine, and are in the southeastern part of the island. The island of Skopelos and the most distant of Euboea and Skiros, are visible in favourable weather conditions. The top of the mountain, west, has a communications tower, and at its northern slope has several valleys.
Skiathos has about 70 beaches including a nudist beach at the southern tip of the island, at a place called Banana beach.
The island is linked to mainland Greece with sea routes to Thessaloniki, Volos and Agios Konstantinos and also with the rest of the Sporades with hydrofoils, tickets cost approximate 12 euro per person for Skopelos and 15  for Alonissos . There are also ferries for vehicles, but they are not regular at off-season . Skiathos has an airport  in the northeast of the island, which has one of the shortest runways of Europe which measures only  1570 m .
There are roads to the south, east and northwest. There is only one highway that links the four settlements on the island.

Rhodes as well as Crete are the main tourism regions in Greece. The tourist season start from early May and goes up until the end of October. Tourism currently focuses rather on the northern half of the island, but slowly the south attracts more and more tourists .From Rhodes town and almost throughout the entire West coast until Ialysos there is a huge chain of hotels, nightclubs and bars. Most of the huge Rhodes hotels and accommodations are located on the north west part of the new town around the aquarium area.

The tourist centre of Rhodes is located on the east side of the island. This was due to climatic conditions, as on the west side is much stronger winds while the east side is protected . From north to the south is Rhodes has numerous small towns, which are now strongly influenced by tourism. Not far to the north-east are the thermal baths of Kallithea, reconstructed and re-opened last year. A little further south, finally, the region around Faliraki is the most tourist area of Rhodes. The place in the 70’s consisted of a small fishing village with a tavern, today you will find there many discos, bars, restaurants and other ways of entertainment and nightlife.

From Trianda you can get to Filerimos, and visit the ruins of Ialysos, which also is located there, and from where you can have a breathtaking view to the north tip of the island. On the west side of the island are the ruins of the ancient city of Kameiros while in the north-west of the island is located the Valley of the Butterflies. In this valley the butterfly Euplagia quadripunctaria , encountered in large numbers as well as the Harlequin butterfly. The reason for this huge number of butterflies is that this valley is the only one in Greece, where the Oriental Amber trees grow, which its smell of resin attracts those butterflies. The best time to visit the butterfly valley is from middle of June until September.

Monolithos in the south, right on the coast, is one of the three points at which the The Hospitaller  Knights of St John defended the island. On a beacon of the rock, you van spot the ruins of an old Castle which was later became a monastery, today there is still a small chapel.

One of the most popular attractions of the island is the town of Lindos with the famous Acropolis. The city is marked by its many white houses, often decorated with pink Hibiskus flowers, small lanes and the many donkeys, who carry visitors to the Acropolis hill . The Acropolis of Lindos is after the Acropolis of Athens the most visited in Greece. Among other attractions is the St. Mary’s Church, with its numerous frescoes.

The island of Corfu with an area of 593 sq km is the largest and  northernmost of the Ionian Islands also known as Eptanisa (Seven Islands), Corfu is located in the Ionian Sea, very close to Epirus in the mainland from the port of Igoumenitsa there is daily connection with ferries to Corfu .The length of the island is 85 km, with an average width of 18 km. The topography is very rugged, but can be divided in two areas: the northern, much more abrupt, with highest summit: the mount Pandokratoras   with an elevation of 966. The southern zone is considerably less rugged possess some small plains.

The prefecture of Corfu covers an area of 641 sq km and consists of the island of Corfu, which contains 12 of the 16 municipalities as well as other smaller islands: Paxi and Antipaxi south, the north Mathraki and Erikousa and several islets.

In many places, there are olive groves that is why  during the Venetian time was given  a premium to residents who planted  olive trees. This was referred to the big Venetian need for oil. The residents have therefore on any free piece of land planted olive trees. Even today constitutes an important product olive oil in Corfu, and the advent of mass tourism was the price of the land at the island mainly determined by the number of olive trees.  The Venetian influence in Corfu is very great.  The island was occupied by the French and the British, very important is that Corfu, unlike other major parts of Greece never been occupied by the Turks. 

One of the main tourist attractions of Corfu is the Achilleion, a palace that was build between 1890 and 1892  by the Austrian Empress Elizabeth. The neoclassical building was named by the empress after her classic hero Achilles.
