Software applications make great Traffic Strategies as there are hundreds if not thousands of places who will list your software for free. They even make it free for the end user to download your software and start using it.

If you want to do the same simply follow these steps or skip to the end of this article where I have located a resource so that you can get all this done without all the headaches, months of work and having to pay out thousands in programming costs…

1) Find a suitable software application you think will help to bring traffic to your website(s). Try doing a search on Google for ’software applications’ or search for something you think matches the market you are currently in
2) Research the market place for the number of users who are likely to be available to download your software
3) Make sure these users are easily accessible, there’s no point developing something if you can’t reach the end user
4) Research the number of locations who are likely to accept your software and list it for free download to their users
5) Locate a programmer who can undertake your bespoke programming requirements. In fact you should locate at least 3 so that you can compare abilities, skills and of course quotations. Remember that cheapest is not always the best.
6) Once you have your programmer in place and have given the go ahead you now need to create your website and register your domain. If you intend to sell your software you will need to recruit another programmer to develop and create your propriety systems to deliver your software. This may be a different programmer to the one who is developing your software as not all software programmers are good website programmers.
7) If you want fancy graphics you will also need an arty graphic designer

So there you have, this is what I have done to create my very own Traffic Strategy, it’s taken me 6 years to get to where I am now but it’s been well worth the wait.

Lately I’ve been getting a lot of requests from local businesses to handle their web marketing. These are mainly people who already know me or my husband, and know that we do web hosting and web design. Most of these are small to medium size businesses that already have websites. They’re intrigued about what they’ve heard on TV or from their friends and acquaintances about social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, and they want to know, “How can we get our business on those sites and get more customers?”

Now the whole focus of our web design/hosting business is changing. We’ve found that it’s much easier to get 10 or 20 new clients who want someone to do a mini web promo for them than it is to get 2 or 3 new clients who want a website from scratch or a re-styling of an existing site. You see, we charge a lot more for a new design or re-styling than we do for what I term a “mini web promo”. Budgets are tight for everyone these days, but business people are fascinated with the idea of promoting their products and services through social networking. Normally they don’t have the time or don’t know where to start.

That’s where you come in. You can build a nice portfolio of clients in a short amount of time if you have a little online savvy and aren’t afraid to make contact with local companies. I suggest you target small to medium size businesses and professionals: anyone who might want to get new customers through a web presence. They may or may not even need a traditional website, depending on the type of business. If they do have a website you can send traffic to their site through your web marketing and social networking efforts.

What I normally include in a “mini web promo” package is: setup of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts, plus the setup of a free blog. (We charge more for setting up a “traditional” blog on their domain since it involves more web space and bandwidth, installing a database, etc.) Then, depending on the client’s needs, budget and how proficient they are with technology I may or may not include estimates for training in the use of the blog and social networking accounts, or I may give them estimates for what it would cost them to have me write their blog articles, send out tweets, upload videos, etc.

You’d be amazed how many local business owners need your help. If you’ve been on the Internet for as long as I have (around 12 years I guess) it might seem odd that millions of people don’t know how to do all of the things we just take for granted and that come as naturally as breathing, to us. Some business owners and professionals simply might not have the time to do web marketing.

If you’re like me and love working from home, writing blog articles, creating YouTube videos, hanging out on the social networks, etc. you can make a nice income by just staying at home and taking care of your local clients’ web marketing needs.

Another thing you might consider including in your web promo estimate is social bookmarking, link building and other SEO activities. If you’re good at those things you can make a ton of money. A friend of ours has gotten so good at SEO that he has had to refer to us all of his clients who need graphic design, web design, social networking, blogging, etc. because he’s busy full time with link building and SEO.
