Diy: i sort of live in a barn
a brand new ending

This is the one I’m really excited about (right now, anyway). I have a new headboard. It’s made of barn wood. I can hardly describe the sense of peace that washes over me when I look at my bed … my heart actually sighs. It all started innocently one day while pinning. I spotted a pin about how to build your own headboard. In the related post, I found a link to this couple’s site. My dream was born. I told my dad and I could see the gears turning … ‘we live in the sticks, there is wood everywhere!’ A short bit later, my dad mentioned to a couple friends at church that I had some crazy idea to build a headboard … from recycled barn wood. They just so happened to have some. We went to look and unfortunately, the wood we wanted was at the bottom of a larger stack of wood. Our laziness prevented us from digging it out but thankfully, Mr. Boverhof had a friend not far away with more. It wasn’t long before my dad had wood stacked at his ho

How to deal with clutter quickly
Sandra's space

The question I asked myself over and over again this morning was: What shall I do with all this clutter?  I was faced with the task of sorting out the spare room in my house, otherwise known as the study or guest bedroom, which has been a mess for a while.  Clutter filled every corner, surface and most of the floor.  Having been on ‘holiday at home’ this week, my plan was to tackle just one room a day so that I could spend the rest of each day relaxing and being with the family.  I started the week with the ‘easier to tidy’ rooms, but today this particular room finally got to me! Putting off tackling the clutter Whenever I take time off I’m faced with this scenario – same clutter, different room.  I knew that this time I wanted to tackle it differently, not shuffle things around putting them in a neater pile or different box AND I wanted to do it quickly.  Yesterday, I sat in the room and had a look around, remembering a conversation that I had with

So the Metro was overheating a bit on the way back from Dallas and from Flipside to Austin.  I assumed the 600+ lbs of cargo had something to do with it.  I tried changing the thermostat, back-flushing the radiator, and verifying the engine cooling fan were all working.  Today I did a test drive afterwards with the car still loaded down with most of my gear, and the problem happened again.  In town, I’m able to drive normally, and even use the AC, and only very rarely does the temperature start to creep up.  On the highway, however, after about 15-20 minutes of driving, it starts creeping upward.  Turning on the heater takes it back down about 15%, and revving the engine can bring it almost all the way down.  I tried again after bringing my load down to 300 lbs, which is about as much as two people, and although it took longer, the problem happened again.  What could it be? I checked the fan for the AC condenser, and, sure enough, it gets 13.4 V when the AC is on, but the fan doe

It’s been about two months since we finalized the purchase of our project home in Upsala.  Since that time my husband and I have done a lot of small and big projects.  We have been busy building new stairways, removing old stairways and entirely gutting the upstairs down to the studs in preparation for this day. This is the old stairway that we removed from the center of the home. It was ladder-like in its steepness. We are leaving the door on this end to make a new closet area. The back half of the old stairwell will have drawers in the bottom half and on the top of the drawers will be a place to leave your keys and other miscellaneous items as you enter the back door. New stairway located on the North wall of home. The photo below shows our plans for the stairway. The basement stairs are directly below the upper stairs. Both the upstairs and basement can be accessed from the garage. We also opened a wall from the kitchen to this new entry way. Improving the overall flow of the

Well, we’ve been in the new house for 3 months and we’ve successfully sold the old one. Most of the new home furnishings are in place and we feel like we’ve completed a big chapter. We’ve purposefully refrained from blogging about the experience. There was sort of a feeling throughout the process that we were fighting an uphill battle to make this transition. That feeling caused us to think twice about blogging how we were feeling and thinking about the events that occurred along the way. We really prayed a lot about finding the right buyer for the other house and we were grateful that one came along within 10 days of the house going on the market. We’ve gone through this process 3 times in the first 3 years of our marriage. First selling Lisa’s townhouse after we got married. Then buying our new house and finally selling the house we lived in after getting married. As I reflect on the latest house adventure, there are a couple of things that stand o
