MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – Two masked home invasion robbers reportedly pistol whipped a man and sexuall

MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – Two masked home invasion robbers reportedly pistol whipped a man and sexually assaulted a woman before making off with an undisclosed amount of cash early Wednesday morning.

According to Miami-Dade police spokesman Det. Alvaro Zabaleta the two men, who wore the white face ghost masks from the movie Scream, got into a home in the area of NW 25th Avenue and 93rd Street and demanded cash and valuables from the two people inside; a 65-year old man and 35-year old woman.

[worldnow id=6343478 width=385 height=288 type=video]

The robbers then ordered the woman to duct tape the man’s hands together.

“They ordered the two victims, or at least the female victim, the 35-year old white female, ordered her to tie the second victim, a 65-year old white male, with duct tape,” said Zabaleta. “Once she complied with their demands they proceeded to sexually assault her.”

Along with cash and valuables, police said the men stole a gun that was in the home.

The man was taken to North Shore Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries. The woman was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s rape treatment center.

“To do this to a 65-year old man, to sexually assault a 35-year old female, we’re taking this incident very seriously,” said Zabaleta.

Neighbor Margaret Berry said she can’t believe something like has happened.

“I wanted to cry, he’s too good of a friend to me,” said Berry. “I’ve been here seven years and that man never hurt nobody.”

A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said he noticed suspicious activity in the neighborhood last night.

“About three in the morning, I seen three guys and called my neighbor and walked out there and the guys took off, got in the vehicle and took off.”

Police have not released a description of the men but did say they were considered armed and dangerous.

My new @Wordpress TOLD me that my first blog entry was ‘weak.’ Well, excuse me. I am a little weak, still, from my nephrectomy last month when they removed one of my kidneys, which was CANCEROUS. Interested NOW, Word Press? *jk*jk*

My body IS weak. One five minute walk wears me out for the rest of the day. My mind is slower. I’m just slower than shit in every possible way. Even my thinking is the consistency of old peanut butter. My memory has been compromised & I’m even MORE dependent on #spellcheck than I was twenty years ago. Whatever.

It takes me at least 3 minutes for me to comopose (I did THAT on purpose!), a tweet. You poor babies.

BTW, my mommy didn’t nurse me. In fact she smoked cigarette’s while she was pregnant with me AND after I was born she chose not to nurse me. That would interfere with her smoking, coffee & wine drinking. There went my perfect immune system, huh? Life was so beautiful in the perfect denial of the 50′s and 60′s!! It was just like #Pleasantville.

And my mind is not right, because I am no more than 3 weeks away from my final divorce hearing. And I’ve known that man for 25 years. He is a drain on my brain. Despite being a narcissist, he is also an ‘artist.’ Which is such an ‘I, me, my, miine’ frame of mind. I was always telling him how wonderful he was before our son was born. He didn’t like it very much when our son ‘stole’ his spot light with his mommy. Whatever.

My dad is bipolar. My grandmother was bipolar. I am, too. I am the DSM-7. Shit. Do what the doctors recommend; Just dump head meds into the local water supply. Everyone will be happy and have no one to blame. Whatever

I’m amazed that my heavily armed bipolar daddy never forgot me at the bombing range, nor shot me dead and left me there for the critters. See, he didn’t feel fit to be a father. How do I know these things. People tell me stuff. I listen. And don’t tell. But since I’ve not spoken with my daddy in over 20 years, I don’t think he’ll mind, as the last time I spoke with him, he told me I SHOULD be dead. Interesting choice of words. I SHOULD be dead. And yet I was NOT. Whatever.

One day in his shop while daddy was working on a …. bird house or some crafty project…and he slowly lifted his head, sadly lifted his head and looked at me with a terrible depression on his face and said to me: “I should have never gotten married or had children, kid. I’m sorry to tell you, but your Grandpa made me get married. I should be a gun smith in C olorado tending a sheep farm.” Typical Greek man. Whatever.

Everybody but my family seems to think I’m nice. But surprise, according to my dad, I’m supposed to be a hooker junkie on skid row in San Diego. Sorry Dad. Whatever

Ihope this blathering has slightly impressed Word Press. To the rest of you who read this, I extend my sincerest condolences.

All in all I feel pretty lucky to be alive. What with my parents trying to wack me for all those years, I really outwitted those people. Whatever.

ANAHEIM (CBS) — Anaheim police locked down Jonas E. Salk Elementary School and Magnolia High School Tuesday to search surrounding neighborhoods for several robbery suspects.

The lockdowns were lifted about 11:30 a.m., according to Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn said.

Authorities said the lockdown stemmed from a home invasion robbery at 3:30 a.m in a home in the 2500 block of West Heffron Drive.

When police arrived, they reportedly saw two males running away and found a man in his 30s inside the house with
“significant injuries as a result of some sort of physical altercation,” the sergeant said.

Eventually, police widened the search and determined the schools should be locked down for about an hour, Dunn said.

About 10:30 a.m., police detained a man who matched the description of one of the suspects, Dunn said.

“It appears the motivation is robbery,” but investigators were trying at midday to determine exactly what happened, Dunn said.

NUEVO (CBS) — Authorities Saturday were on the hunt for a suspect they say pistol-whipped a 93-year-old homeowner after breaking into her home in a rural area east of Perris.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Hemet Station were called to a residence in the 31000 block of Nuevo Road about 10:10 p.m. Friday on a report of a home invasion robbery.

According to authorities, the suspect — described as a hooded man — broke into the home, pistol-whipped the homeowner, then knocked out and tied up her caretaker before making off with property and a car. The vehicle was apparently abandoned nearby, but the suspect remained at large.

He is between 5’10″ and 6’0″ and was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket, black pants and a black mask covering his face.

Both victims were hospitalized with injuries described as non-life threatening.

Anyone with more information about the incident is asked to call the Hemet Station’s Detective Bureau at (951) 791-3400 or after hours at (951) 776-1099.

NORTH MIAMI (CBS4) – North Miami police have released photos of three men who were caught on security cameras during a home invasion robbery in North Miami early Sunday morning.

Police spokesman Lt. Neal Cuevas said seven people were in a home in the 12700 block of NE 4th Avenue when three armed men stormed inside.

The home’s owner, William Foster, gave police security video that shows the men entered through a door which was not completely locked.

“They woke me up with a gun and acted like they were officers,” Foster told CBS4′s Silva Harapetian.

[worldnow id=6202421 width=385 height=288 type=video]

Foster and another male were pistol whipped and bound. The pictures show the robbers wore badges around their neck.

“They tied everyone up and put tape across everyone’s mouth.” Foster said, the gunmen then demanded Foster’s money and jewelry. “They asked specifically for the brand of watch that I wear.”

Police say the men got away with only a couple of cell phones and the women’s purses.

Foster said the men knew too much about him. He suspects they know someone who knows him because they had too much information about him, like about the safe he keeps in the home and his watch.

“I really don’t blame this on the neighborhood. This has to be someone that I know,” Foster said.

But, neighbors are feeling uneasy. A woman who lives across the street said she was not surprised to hear about the home invasion. Lyleanna Buitrau said she has been a victim twice in one year. First her home was burglarized then her car was stolen. She bought a dog to protect her family.

“I’m afraid because of my kids. It’s insecure neighborhood. I think police should come around more often,” said Buitrau.

She said she’s going to move. But Foster who moved in only three months ago and has spent the past two years renovating his home says he will not move. Instead, he hopes the public will help police catch the robbers.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.

[worldnow id=6198131 width=385 height=288 type=video]

When the people in the home began to get suspicious the armed men, Foster said they were tied up everyone and had duct tape put over the others mouths. The gunmen then demanded Foster’s money and jewelry.

“The asked specifically for the brand of watch that I wear,” said Foster.

Foster said he was hit twice in the head with a gun. They also struck another man in the head with a gun. They then reportedly demanded to be taken to the safe. Foster said they dragged him down stairs but the safe, as it turns out, was empty at the time of the robbery. The men got away with only a couple of cell phones and the women’s purses.

Foster said the men knew too much about him. He suspects they know someone who knows him because they had too much information about him – like about the safe and his watch.

“They did not seem like routine robbers,” said Foster.

Foster and the other man who was hit with a gun were treated at the scene. One of the women was taken to North Shore Hospital where she was treated for a seizure.

Foster said the whole house is wired with security cameras so it shouldn’t be too hard for police to identify and catch those responsible.

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) — The Marin County District Attorney’s Office has decided not to file charges against three San Rafael home invasion robbery suspects because there is insufficient evidence.

Deputy District Attorney Tom Brown said Wednesday morning the case remains under investigation by the San Rafael Police Department.

Police arrested Frank Lee Gray, 23, of Oakland, Khiry Jefferson, 21, of San Rafael, and 19-year-old Kenneth Wayne Woodard, of San Rafael, in connection with the robbery of a home on Sea Way in east San Rafael on Friday evening.

A female resident said several men forced their way into her home and robbed her at gunpoint, police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.

The suspects were arrested after a manhunt Friday evening. All were booked into Marin County Jail and being held on $75,000 bail. Police said a fourth suspect was at large.

Gray and Woodard have since been released from jail, but Jefferson remains in custody on a parole hold, Brown said.

On Tuesday, Rohrbacher said police wanted to assure residents that the robbery was not random and that investigators were considering “possible links between the victim and the suspects and potential motivations for the crime.”

Police received the report of the home invasion robbery on Sea Way at 5:30 p.m. Friday. A woman told police that several men, including one armed with a gun, forced their way into her home, robbed her and then fled in a car, police said. The victim was not injured.

Minutes after the call came in, an officer on Third Street saw a car carrying four men matching descriptions of the robbers.

The officer saw the passengers ducking down to hide. As officer was following the car down Union Street, the driver stopped abruptly and all four suspects jumped out and ran away, police said.

Two were caught and taken into custody while a third ran into an apartment complex at 302 Fourth St. Witnesses told police the fourth suspect was seen running north on Union Street, according to police.

The area was shut down as police searched for the two remaining suspects.

The third suspect was found hiding under a car in a parking lot and was taken into custody at 7:50 p.m., police said.

The search for the fourth suspect was called off at 9:30 p.m.

Police described the at-large suspect as a black man about 20 to 25 years old, standing from about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with short hair that looks almost shaved. He was wearing blue jeans and tennis shoes.

About 50 officers participated in the search, including SWAT teams from the San Rafael Police Department, Marin County Sheriff’s Office and Twin Cities police. A California Highway Patrol officer and a Novato police K-9 unit were also called in.

GARDEN GROVE (CBS) — A 70-year-old woman suffered minor injuries after one of three suspects ripped off a necklace and pushed her to the floor during a home invasion robbery in Garden Grove, police said.

The intruders entered the home in the 12800 block of Westlake Street about 12:45 p.m., said Lt. Jeff Nightengale of the Garden Grove Police Department.

COCONUT GROVE (CBS4) – Bill MacIntyre says what happened to his 80-year-old father shows the “

COCONUT GROVE (CBS4) – Bill MacIntyre says what happened to his 80-year-old father shows the “degradation of society.”

MacIntyre’s father, Alexander, was tied up with duct tape, punched repeatedly in the face and head, robbed and left home alone overnight by four masked men who broke into his upscale Coconut Grove home.

“I just don’t understand why people do these sorts of things,” said Bill MacIntyre. “It’s the degradation of society.”

[worldnow id=5938444 width=385 height=288 type=video]

MacIntyre spoke with CBS4′s Peter D’Oench Wednesday night outside the home his father had built in the 1800 block of South Bayshore Drive. He told D’Oench his Dad had just turned 80.

Now he’s recovering at Mercy Hospital after a savage and traumatic beating. The masked men stole more than $100,000 in jewelry, watches and other valuables, said Miami Police.

“I didn’t like it,” said Bill Macintyre. “You get this gut wrenching feeling in your stomach. Who could do this to an 80-year-old man? It just tore at my heart. I didn’t like it one bit.”

Police say it happened around 11:30 Tuesday night.

They say MacIntyre was tied up with duct tape in an upstairs bedroom and the home was ransacked.

“He was tied up with his hands behind his back in his upstairs bedroom,” said his son.

MacIntyre remained tied up all night but somehow managed to make his way downstairs, outside, and into the middle of Bayshore Drive to seek help.

An early morning jogger and his wife saw MacIntyre bound in the middle of the street and immediately helped him.

“We saw that he was tied and bleeding, so obviously no matter what the gentleman needed help so we sat him up and took him inside the house,” said Good Samaritan Ruben Garcia.

MacIntyre was taken to nearby Mercy Hospital where he was held overnight. His son told D’Oench that he conscious and alert but is not sure that he wants to return to his home right after leaving the hospital.

He also told D’Oench that the criminals seemed to know too much.

“I think my Dad was targeted because they knew what they were doing and they went straight for what they were looking for,” said MacIntyre. He said the men knew exactly where the safe was.

“They believe it was an inside job because his son told me that his Dad thought he recognized the voice of one of the men,” said neighbor and friend Nancy Bolt. “Either somebody knew something or they worked here before.”

Miami Police have no suspects at this point.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call the Miami Police Department’s Robbery Unit at (305) 603-6370 or Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).

“I think justice will be done if we find the perpetrators who did this horrible act,” said Bill MacIntyre.

MIAMI (CBS4) – A Miami man is in custody, a second person on the run, after three armed robberies.

Miami Police believe the crimes are all connected.

According to authorities, the first robbery occurred around 11:15 p.m. at 10th Avenue and NW 33rd Street. Five people standing outside their home were approached by two armed men who forced them inside the house at gunpoint. Once inside, the gunmen ransacked the home and made off with several items.

“We were talking outside and they came in so fast, we wasn’t ready for that and they came and they pointed guns at us,” said one man who did not wish to be identified in this story.

“They threw us onto the grass and told us if we called the cops they were going to kill us,” said the man.

[worldnow id=5908551 width=385 height=288 type=video]

Just after 11:30 p.m. a man was unloading items from his car in front of residence at 90 NW 29th Street when he was approached by two armed men who ordered him to get inside his car. Once inside they robbed him and then took off.

Police say the third stop was at an apartment complex at 5th Avenue and NW 34th Street. A woman talking outside on her cell phone, was forced at gunpoint into her apartment while her 5-year-old daughter slept on the second floor. The woman’s boyfriend who identified himself only as “Sam”, spoke to CBS4’s Natalia Zea.

“Those cowards came inside my baby mama’s crib and she begged them not to go upstairs….They didn’t care, went up in there, went up in the kid’s room, took everything out of the house and they took off,” he said.

They got away with electronics and jewelry, and “Sam” can’t believe the excuse they gave his girlfriend.

“They were like ‘oh we’re sorry, it’s rough out here. We got to do what we got to do,’ and she was letting them know ‘hey it’s rough here too! I don’t have a job, I don’t have nothing,” said “Sam”.

“They were driving by, trolling for victims, seeing if anyone was outside,” said Miami police spokesman Lt. Maximilian Valdez. “They approach them, commit the robberies and force them inside the house.”

Valdez said as the officers went to each robbery scene, a complete description of the men and a description of their vehicle was put out on the police radio.

Shortly after the last robbery, a patrol officer spotted a gray Ford Focus which matched the description of the suspects’ car and pulled it over. As the officer approached it, the driver took off on foot. The man, identified as 21-year old Cornelius Bryant, was quickly found and taken into custody.

Bryant has been charged with home invasion robbery, armed robbery and false imprisonment.

Valdez said investigators are trying to determine if all three robberies were committed by Bryant and a second

“Sam” hopes police catch the second suspect so his girlfriend can get back the most valuable thing they stole: her security.

“She felt totally violated, she was telling them I have a five year old kid please don’t do this, and they weren’t listening,” said “Sam”. It’s ridiculous man. Those cowards need to be caught. That’s a coward move man. If I can get up everyday and go to work why can’t ya’ll?”

GILROY (CBS SF) — Santa Clara County sheriff’s detectives have recovered stolen firearms in co

GILROY (CBS SF) — Santa Clara County sheriff’s detectives have recovered stolen firearms in connection with a home invasion robbery in Gilroy three months ago.

The weapons, which included 20 handguns and 40 rifles, were found in several secret compartments hidden beneath a carpeted floor at the apartment of 25-year-old Ernesto Gonzalez in San Jose on Wednesday morning, sheriff’s Sgt. Rick Sung said.

[worldnow id=5893666 width=480 height=360 type=video]

Detectives also found various collectible items that belonged to the victim, as well as an assault rifle that they determined was stolen from a Sunnyvale residence in a separate residential burglary case, Sung said.

Gonzalez and five others were arrested earlier this month in connection with the alleged robbery, which occurred on Feb. 6 at a home in the 1000 block of Rucker Avenue.

On that night, three suspects ambushed the victim, a 59-year-old man, when he arrived home around 9 p.m. They allegedly tied up the man and then tortured him by repeatedly striking him with pool cues and wooden sticks before pouring chemical substances over his face and body to get him to reveal the combination code to his safe, sheriff’s officials said.

The suspects beat the victim to the point where he temporarily lost consciousness, according to the sheriff’s office.

They took various items from the victim’s home, including guns, stamps, coins and playing cards. They fled with his pickup truck, but the truck was later found burning in the area of state highways 9 and 35, just outside of Saratoga.

After the suspects left his home, the victim was able to untie himself and run to his neighbor’s house to call authorities.

He was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery for his injuries, which at the time were considered life threatening.

The arrest of Gonzalez and five others were made on May 3 at five different locations throughout the Bay Area, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspects have been identified as Juvenal Reyes, 62, of Gilroy; Danny Rivera, 22, of San Jose; Norberto Serna, 41, of Morgan Hill; and Juan Fonseca, 21, of San Jose. A juvenile was also arrested.

Gonzales, Reyes, Fonseca and Serna have been charged with attempted murder, arson, torture, conspiracy, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and vehicle theft.

Rivera faces a possession of stolen property charge.

All are still in custody and will plead to the charges on June 14.

The investigation included the assistance of the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, the Gilroy and San Jose police departments, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Julian Quinonez or Detective Sgt. Ryan Elder at (408) 808-4500 or during non-business hours (408) 808-4400. Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous can call the sheriff’s tip line at (408) 808-4431.

Rialto police say at least three gunmen entered a home on Beechwood Avenue at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday but those inside grabbed guns and there was a shootout.

Police tell the San Bernardino Sun that one person inside was killed and a robbery suspect was shot and died in the street.

They say he moved to South Florida from the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, New York and stayed with her for two weeks.

[worldnow id=5857551 width=385 height=288 type=video]

But last week, the woman kicked him out and that’s when things took a violent turn.

One of the women who was robbed was too afraid to give her full name, but “Lonneesha” said she wanted to speak out about this crime.

She said she and her two roommates knew the suspect because he had befriended them when he moved in to the apartment complex, she said they had trusted him.

“Last Friday, he came by and asked if he could use our bathroom,” said Lonneesha. “Then he said check this out. He stole a thousand dollars and change.”

Miramar Police expressed concern about this case.

“We want to warn other women out there to be cautious, to be careful, because you have a very dangerous person out there that unfortunately this woman let into her house,” said Miramar Police spokeswoman Tania Rues.

Rues said the suspect had also contacted other women through on-line dating services.

Police released a photograph of the suspect that showed he had a series of very distinctive tattoos.

“He has a tattoo under one eye of several hearts,” said Rues. “He has a tattoo of the Virgin Mary on his arm, a large number five on his neck, a pit bull biting dollar signs on his shoulder and neck, as well as many other tattoos.”

Forde may try to play execution sentence for martyrdom Everett WA-(Everett Herald)-An Everett woman

Forde may try to play execution sentence for martyrdom

Everett WA-(Everett Herald)-An Everett woman reportedly showed no reaction Tuesday when a jury announced she should die by lethal injection for orchestrating two murders in Arizona.

But those who know Shawna Forde doubt she’ll be quiet for long about being convicted and sentenced to die for the May 2009 killings of Raul Flores, 29, and his 9-year-old daughter, Brisenia.

Forde, 43, likely will try to spin the verdict to convince others that she is being martyred for her unpopular political views, says a man she tried to recruit into a leadership position in her Minuteman group.

Mike Carlucci is a Seattle-area private investigator who Forde once claimed acted as her legal muscle and personal detective. That was a lie, said Carlucci, who said he pegged her for a criminal and a con artist, and kept records of his suspicions.

After her arrest for the murders in Arizona, Carlucci supplied The Herald with dozens of e-mails and other correspondence that documented Forde’s interlocking scams and years-long involvement in the Minuteman movement.

Forde probably wasn’t happy to be sentenced to die, but she’ll likely spend the next several years claiming it is proof that she’s being targeted by forces opposed to her views, Carlucci said.

Forde herself knows that isn’t true, he said, but “in her delusional scheme of things this is going to be some sort of a twisted moral victory, and fit in real well with her idea of conspiracy,” he said.

Carlucci said Forde repeatedly tried to recruit him to join her Minutemen American Defense group and join her in Arizona.

He believes she wanted him to assume a role in her organization that ultimately went to Jason Bush, who once lived in Wenatchee. He’s an ex-convict and con man who convinced Forde and others he was a special forces warrior.

Bush is scheduled to go on trial next month in Tucson. Prosecutors say he’s the person who shot the Flores family at Forde’s direction.

Robert Copley, known in Minuteman circles as Warbird, was one of two Colorado men who testified at Forde’s trial about her attempt to recruit them for armed operations, including robberies of people trafficking in drugs and weapons.

Copley and the other man took their concerns about Forde to federal agents, but the feds were not interested until after the fatal Arivaca raid, jurors were told. That troubles Copley because Forde at one point gave him a sketch of the town of Arivaca. He passed it along to federal agents, who testified they later destroyed the drawing.

Forde stayed in contact with Copley after the Arizona killings. Among other things, she sent him a list of 17 people she wanted contacted in the event of her arrest, or worse.

Forde had no idea that Copley, a bounty hunter and bail bondsman, was working with federal agents trying to track her down.

He said the verdict and death sentence are appropriate.

“She earned every bit of it,” he said. “She engineered the invasion. She was the boss. She may just as well have pulled the trigger.”

Forde’s mother, Rena Caudle of California, said she was shaking and wept Tuesday when she got news that her daughter had been sentenced to die.

The thought running through her head, over and over, was a question only Forde could answer, she said:

“Why? Why? Why? Why?”

Caudle said she’s convinced the world is safer with her daughter behind bars.

“She made her choice, and she has to live with it, and that has to be hard,” she said.

Irma DeWaters of Everett has been following Forde’s case from the start. She knew Forde, and allowed her to live in her home when the defendant was in her teens. She read with amazement how Forde’s young life was characterized in the courtroom in Tucson.

“I found many fabrications that made Shawna sound like a helpless child that nobody cared for,” she said. “The truth of the matter is that Shawna ran away from anyone that showed her any love and she ran away even faster from rules.”

Forde’s attorneys spent much of last week presenting testimony about a childhood marred by abandonment, abuse and street crime.

Jurors were not told about the crimes that first brought Forde national attention two years ago while she was still living in Everett. They include Forde’s claim — since discounted by police — that she was raped and later shot by drug cartel members in retribution for her Minuteman activism in Arizona.

Police in Everett continue to investigate the Dec. 22, 2008, attack on her ex-husband, who was nearly killed after a gunman ambushed him at his home in Everett. The Fordes were then divorcing, and she was suspected of being somehow involved in the attack, court papers show.

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) — Police in San Francisco are investigating a home invasion robbery that took place near the University of San Francisco Saturday night.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired near a home in the 2500 block of Golden Gate Avenue around 9:30 p.m., San Francisco police Officer Albie Esparza said.

A 21-year-old man told police he was letting a friend out when four men rushed the door and broke in, demanding money.

The victim was pistol-whipped by the intruders, who stole an electronic gaming system, a wallet and a cell phone before fleeing in a newer-model Jaguar, Esparza said.

As the four suspects fled, at least one of them shot at the victim, who shot back at the suspects, Esparza said.

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — San Bernardino County prosecutors have dropped charges against a man charged with kidnapping a 3-year-old boy after the suspect was shot to death in Mexico.

Liberato Vega and another man were accused of taking the child during a home-invasion robbery last year in unincorporated south San Bernardino.

The boy was later found in Mexicali, Mexico.

Vega, who’s 31, was shot 16 times during a January gun battle with Mexican federal police that authorities say may have been drug-related.

County prosecutor Bob Bulloch tells the Riverside Press-Enterprise it was difficult to confirm the death and the case wasn’t dropped until Sept. 8.

The newspaper says FBI agents went to Mexico to see coroner’s reports and obtain fingerprints.

Another suspect remains at large.

VILLA PARK( CBS) — Authorities say a home invasion robber threw a Villa Park homeowner into a backyard swimming pool before fleeing, leaving the non-swimmer struggling to get out.

The victim was attacked in his home in the 10600 block of Dorothy Circle about 8:30 a.m., Orange County sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said. The man, who recently had surgery, was also punched in the abdomen.

[worldnow id=5150598 width=385 height=255 type=video]

Two suspect ransacking the home woke the victim, who is not fluent in English. One ransacked a bedroom, while the second demanded to know where the valuables were kept, Amormino said. The victim, who is not fluent in English, was punched twice in the stomach when he did not immediately respond.

The victim was led out of the house and thrown into a swimming pool. He couldn’t swim, but was able to dog paddle to the side and run to the neighbors for help.

One suspect was described as a 6-foot-tall Hispanic man in his 20s with a shaggy, black-brown goatee, wearing a black T-shirt and a white beanie. The second suspect was described as a stocky Latino, about 5 feet 8 inches and 250 pounds, wearing a white T-shirt and black beanie. They fled in a white, older-model, full-size pickup truck, possibly a Chevrolet.

The suspects are believed to be behind two recent burglaries in the area with a white pickup truck.
